A picture to tug at the heart strings. Bright Kholi, News
Editor of The Ngami Times, came across this pitiful sight when visiting
the Nata area recently. He found living in Manakanagore ward an old
woman in her mid 70s - what makes her different from other grandmothers
is she does not have a house to live in, and neither does she have a
toilet. Thamalalo Reetsanye lives literally in the open with four
grandchildren dumped on her by seemingly uncaring parents. Their
arrival has made life even worse for her as she survives on her food
rations from the local council and her old age pension, which she has
to share with her grandchildren. United States Peace Corps volunteer
Pedro Martinez said Reetsanye and her grandchildren – one of whom
attends Nata Primary School - live in appalling condit...

The team of four will try their best to explain the importance of staying on their medications and learning more about Tuberculosis (T.B), as well as using all methods of protection during sexual intercourse. In addition, the team will include a talk on A(H1N1). Botswana's Ministry of Health has confirmed and verified a few cases in the area.
Nata Village has a population of 6000+ people living in six community wards. Each ward, which includes the following, Sekao, Basimane, Maaloso, Manakanagore, Makwenaejwang, and Kachikau each have one chief and a place to hold weekly meetings (kgotla). During the past years all six wards did not have a sign or anything identifying the community by their given name.In the coming month all six wards will have a large sign with the wards name on it. The signs will help each ward by posting announcements for the coming week or any special events. The community will benefit greatly from this project. (Source: The Nata village blog)

Approximately 600+ students at Sua Community Junior Secondary School received a very informative and educational health talk on HIV/AIDS, STI'S, Teen age pregnancy, Alcohol Abuse, and Domestic violence. Peter Martinez, Peace Corps Volunteer from California was more than serious when addressing the young students on this critical and important issues. With role playing and statistics on the rate of HIV infections in their community. The message was loud and clear and all the students left the assembly with a better understanding of whats expected of them. (Source: The Nata village blog)

The month of May was very educational for the Ntwakgolo support group. First, the support group just received their six week training course on leather and sewing work certificates. This work shop enables the support group to work independently from home. Making leather shoes, jackets, purses, and wallets. Second, the support group is now enjoying bead work by using paper and or magazines. The support group can now make neclaces, bracellets, and earings. The work will hopefully help the support group earn an income. If you wish to see their projects go to www.mothersforall.org (Source: The Nata village blog)

Nata is the proud host of North Gate Lodge, a new accommodation facility that is strategically located at the Kasane, Francistown and Maun road intersection.
The lodge has become the centre of attraction in the small Nata Central Business District for both locals and tourists alike.
Nata, naturally a traditional village which for many years had only one accommodation facility, has felt the demand for more accommodation establishments after the bush fire that gatted down the one facility.
Nata is a very important place as it serves as a gateway to both the Chobe and the Okavango Delta – and that is what makes the lodge so vital to tourists and business travellers alike.
Seloma Tiro, the owner, is a man who had a vision of building a lodge slap-bang in the middle of Nata, and that'...

R.A.D.S.( REMOTE AREA DEVELOPMENT SERVICE) Peter Martinez, Kenewang Rancholo and Seloma Tiro put smiles on the childrens faces at the R.A.D.S hostel in Nata Village, by giving them nine soccer balls donated by the trust. The balls are to be used by students after school at their recreation facility. The students and teachers were very happy because they have different teams and they can now practice and compete well. It is very good to excise, those were the words of Mr. Tiro when he was issueing out the balls. After doing their school home work, the students can now enjoy their afternoons by playing soccer. The trust would like to thank everybody who contributes. (Source: The Nata village blog)

Finally, Nata Village is going to have a Senior Secondary School. The bush has been cleared. In two or three years students from Nata village and the serounding villages are going to have their own Senior Secondary Shool In Nata. Students from Nata used to attend school in Maun 300km, Francistown, Tutume, Masunga, and Shashe 200km away, This made it difficult for parents to visit the School when ever there were meetings because of transport and accomodation. So life is going to change for the better we hope. (Source: The Nata village blog)

Nata clinic staff had to address people at Nata Village Kgotla about the Cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe. As our beautiful Nata River is conected to Zimbabwe on the North East of Botswana. So, the possibility of the village contracting the bacteria is highly possible. There has been three cases of the bacteria in Tutume Sub District. Therefore, prevention is better than cure. (Source: The Nata village blog)

During the hot summers Nata River becomes a drinking water hole for the domestic and wild life that share the community river, as well as a swimming hole for the young children to enjoy during the hot days. When the rains come, in just a couple of weeks, this beautiful lomg river will become a ragging and roaring majestic river. No person or animal will be able to swim across. Nata River starts in Hwange National Park located in Zimbabwe and it drains directly into the Nata Delta(Sowa Pans). At one point or another Nata Delta will be completely cover with a sea of wild Flamingos coming to enjoy the salty water and migrate. (Source: The Nata village blog)

The government will give each family a food basket and baby formula if the child is in good health.
The Nata clinic staff is responsible for over seeing 2500+ new and old patients a month, as well as transport. The clinic is open twenty-four hours, seven days a week. With one doctor, one nurse, and one driver on call nobody goes unattended for any medical reason after hours. The staff continuously as a team work hard to provide assistance and support to The Cattle Post, out side Nata, Sepako Village, Maposa Village, and Manxotae Village. The Nata clinic staff has very little supplies to work with and they still get the job done. (Source: The Nata village blog)

In the past three month The Nata Primary School Choir has been practicing extremely hard on their songs, both in Setswana and English. The Nata Choir won the district competition, beating nine other Choirs. Taking first place and two trophies has advanced The Choir to the regional finals next week. The young ladies put on an amazing performanceon Thursday without missing a beat. This special event takes place every year and students who participate are to practice right after school for hours, to ensure perfection. Nata Village wishes The Choir good luck and a safe journey.
six energetic older ladies and two awesome cooks continuously prepare Sorghum for 900+ students at The Nata Primary School, Monday through Saturday and special events. The majority of the students constantly go hungry during the day. Without the morning meal, one cannot learn. The students eagerly look forward to the early meal that prepares them for a day of studying. While the ladies and cooks prepare the morning Sorghum, they chant and sing songs of joy.
Pictured above is Melody with her two favorite kids in the entire village. Below is an account of the past few days and some thoughts on blogging from a remote African village:

Melody writes:

Because this is the Nata village blog and not the Melody Jenkins blog, I will try and keep my comments brief. Over the past two years, I have tried to give a voice to the voiceless and tell the story of Nata village. When I arrived in this village 3 years ago, people were dying for the lack of 4 dollars to reach the ARV clinic in Gweta. With the help of Jon Rawlinson, Seloma Tiro, The Nata Village Blog, and our generous donors, we were able to put a stop to it. Today, there are over 550 people on ARV's and we have not lost one member of Ntwakgolo Support group in over 2 years...

Three of the Nata clinic ambulances are broken down. As a result, when a patient in the village is too sick to make it to the clinic, he/she is often transported in a wheel barrell or donkey cart. As you can see, the family made the effort to make the patient as comfortable as possible by putting blankets as padding and a pillow for the sick person. There is somtimes no diginity for our patients. It's heartbreaking. Our very first fax that came through gave an important announcement from the Clinton Foundation that let us know they plan to help us improve our collection of CD4 samples for people living with AIDS. Everyone at the clinic wants to thank our donors.
Dr. Roger told us about a 12 year old girl with diabetes that comes to our clinic twice per day for injections of insulin. This was becoming a burden for the young lady as she attends school and also has chores at home. Dr. Roger taught her how to inject herself but she doesn't have electricity and can't keep insulin at her house as it needs to be refrigerated. Dr. Roger came up with the idea to put the insulin in the small ice chest along with reusable ice blocks in an effort to keep the insulin at the proper temperature. Your donations bought this small ice chest and our patient is very grateful. Thanks to all our donors that make these success stories possible.
We are very excited in Nata as our village has been chosen to be the setting for an upcoming children's book. Several months back we were contacted by Kristin Sargianis from the Museum of Science in Boston, Massachusetts. Kristin is a curriculum developer and is part of an amazing project called Engineering is Elementary. The books are targeted to children in grades 1 thru 5 and they encourage kids to think about math and science. The books will be distributed in the United States as well as Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Greece, and Italy. All the books are set in a different country and follow a lead character who solves a problem through engineering. The storybook for Nata features a young girl who graduates from the University of Botswana and comes b...

The Nata Village Blog has done more than just raise money for people living with AIDS and orphans. It has helped bring the use of technology to a remote village. Even though the Nata clinic has internet access, many people don't really understand how to use it. The blog has given people in Nata a reason to look at the internet and get an interest in how it works. Clinic staff enjoy seeing themselves on the website and some are learning how to post onto the blog. Pictured above is our clinic gardner "Chicken" learning how to send an email. He was so happy to have his own email address and couldn't wait to give it out to his friends living throughout Botswana. Chicken sends a 'shout out' to all our readers.
It was a sad day in Nata as we all had to say goodbye to Peter Robson. He has been living in Nata village for almost 16 years and for the most part was the only "white" guy in the village. He was born in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and immigrated to Botswana due to the countries instability. For years he ran Robson Automotive and pulled endless tourists out of our salt pans when they ignored all warnings and drove on them anyway. Peter can fix anything. His workshop was legendary. He fixed fans, fridges, quad bikes, toasters, hair dryers, anything and everything...not to mention cars and trucks. He was a welcome site to many a tourist who broke down in our remote area. Peter was a great friend to the Nata Blog and let us use his land...

The Construction Industry Trust recently opened in Nata and they are training almost 100 people in carpentry, plastering, brick laying, and skilled construction. We are so proud that Mabogo member Kelebogile Koboyapula was accepted into the carpentry program. Of the 100 students, only five are women. We are so proud of Kelbogile for taking the initiative to go outside the traditional jobs offered to women. Kelebogile is a single mom and her carpentry skills will be helpful in getting a job here in Nata. Nata is a booming village and people with skills are needed to build the new lodges and stores that are popping up around Nata. Way to go Kelebogile! We are proud of you.
Anyone coming to Botswana from the western world will quickly see the respect that is given towards the elders. At the handing over ceremony in Maposa, all the village elders were asked to stand and everyone recognized them. This gentleman pictured above was one of the eldest members of the village so he was asked to share the history of Maposa. History is passed down by story telling and the elders are respected for their experiences and wisdom gained from life. We at natavillage.org wish that people in the so called "developed" world would learn a lesson from Botswana and recognize the knowledge and wisdom that elders bring. (Source: The Nata village blog)

After the ceremony and speaches were over at the handing over of supplies and recreational equipment in Maposa village, these kids were spotted sitting against a building having the times of their lives with their pens, pencils, and paper. Most kids in Maposa only have access to paper and pens in school and don't have the luxury to just doodle, write, and play on their own. It is truly amazing that something this simple brings such happiness to these kids. It also promotes learning and helps them with their writing skills. Thanks for letting us be your conduit. (Source: The Nata village blog)

Pictured above are the two new professional scales you bought for Nata Clinic. Our two Trust Volunteers, Michael Banda and Basipo Maseko (in the center) picked up the scales, assembled them and presented them to Sr. Nurse Ramakama and Dr. Roger. We were unable to buy the autoclave for the clinic as we haven't been able to find one the correct size so we got the much needed scales. Up until today, patients were weighed on innacurate old bathroom scales. A persons weight is very important when determining what dosage of medication to prescribe and also to monitor the weight of our numerous AIDS patients.

We are lucky at Nata clinic to have the 15 minute rapid test for Malaria. We are just at the close of our Malaria season and we've been quite lucky this year as we did not have a full outbreak like 2 years back. The Environmental Health office does a great job of spraying for mosquito larvae before the season begins and this helps cut down on the spread of this awful disease. Sr. Nurse Ramakhama simply pricks the finger of the patient and puts the blood on a treated slide. She then adds the clearing buffer liquid and waits for the result. We often get a false negative so if patients have obvious symptoms of malaria they are started on the treatment regardless of the test result. (Source: The Nata village blog)

The above chart is a bit blurry but it outlines an important change in the treatment for people living with HIV. Prior to January 2008 patients had to have a CD4 count of less and 200 to be eligible for HAART (highly active anti-retroviral treatment also known as ARV's). Now the patient can begin treatment if their CD4 count falls below 250 or has an AIDS definining illness. The chart basically describes that people who fall below 250 will be given prophylaxis to prevent pneumonia, and TB and will also be given multivitamins along with HAART. The patient will also receive patient education, adherence counseling, safe sex information, and family planning information. The patient will also be screened regularly for TB. If the patients CD4 count is above 25...

Ms. Waki has been at Nata Clinic for over one year. She has been invaluable as our IT specialist and registers patients into the MASA program. MASA means "new dawn" and it is the program that monitors all patients who have tested for HIV. Ms. Waki makes sure all patients have a registration number, ID number, date of birth, next of kin and also tracks the patients CD4 count and all of their appointments. The good news is that Nata Clinic now has over 550 patients registered (that means we are tracking and treating over 550 people who are HIV positive) in our system. The great news is that of those 550 people, only 4 have died in the past year. We of course still have deaths due to AIDS but most of the people dying are those that are...

This cute Nata toddler is showing off his Makgabi. The Makgabi (type of loin cloth) wraps around the waist and has dozens of braided strings hanging down 5 to 6 inches to cover the child. The Makgabi is great for kids as it gives them coverage yet allows them to use the toilet when they need to and prevents the need for diapers. Thanks to the parents of this little one who allowed the photo to be taken and shared. It is mostly parents in villages or remote areas that still use the Makgabi. Nata is such an interesting place as we still have the strong culture and traditions yet access to modern things like the internet, cell phones and satelite TV. Like the rest of the world, we are surrounded by change.
As always we show you everything we buy! Thanks to the donors for the three digital thermometers pictured above that were given to Nata Clinic. We see over 200 patients per day at the clinic and the staff have used the old style that take several minutes and must be shaken down. These thermometers read the temperature in 10 seconds!! Everyone at the clinic says a big thank you. It's these small things that help make the job lighter and help the staff from burning out. We appreciate you all!
Bob and Rosalie Boileau of Canada have been long time supporters of the Nata Blog. We are so thrilled that they have made the trip to Nata to see how we are managing our trust and to donate more items. They are pictured above in Francistown outside the store where they bought 15 soccer balls to be distributed to kids in Nata and the nearby village of Maposa. They took it upon themselves to put cans around various businesses in British Columbia and started their own fundraising drive called "Change for Africa". They showed up with over $1200 dollars and we bought pencils, pens, erasers, essay books, rulers, balls, bats, peanuts and candy that will all be distributed to the 204 kids at Maposa primary school. We will use the occassion to talk about HIV/...

Everyone in the village is excited about the new Northgate Lodge that will open soon in Nata. Nata villagers are proud to live in an area that is the true gateway to Botswana's beautiful wildnerness areas and game reserves. We sit on the edge of the famous Makgadikgadi Salt pans that are so big they can be seen from space. Being out on the pans gives you the feeling of being on the moon! Nothing but white salt pans as far as the eye can see. The Northgate Lodge is owned by our own Mr. Tiro and we've chosen the slogan "Where the real Botswana Begins". Our friend Matt in England gave us the slogan and it will appear on postcards, calendars, and other tourist items that the Trust will be allowed to sell in the curio shop. Mr. Tiro has promis...

Tsaone Dube (far right) has been hired by BONEPWA (the national organization for People Living with AIDS) to work at Nata Clinic and promote the PMTCT (Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission) program. She has recruited two local Nata women (Tshotlo and Ogomoditse) who will be paid a stipend (about $70 per month) to assist her in reaching women who still are uneducated about the program. Unfortunately, Nata has a high percentage of illiterate people and many young girls continue to fall pregnant. Tsaone and her team make home visits in the village and try to reach these illiterate young girls and help them make healthy decisions about their lives. While Nata has a rather high success rate with the PMTCT program the problem according to Tsaone is follow up. While ...

It was a true community effort and everyone got involved.

Even the Nata Clinic gardner, Setswaletswe Gabantshenke (also known as Chicken!) got involved with the fair and handed out condoms in one of the booths set up under tents. Chicken is always involved with pro...

These young boys wanted to pose and say thank you for the soccer ball they received at Christmas. They've been having such a great time with it. It's amazing how something so small can have such an impact.

This young girl received a black back pack for her school books and was absolutely thrilled. She had been carrying her books in a plastic bag. If students don't return their school books in good condition they are required to pay for them or they will not receive their certificates. This is a huge problem as kids don't have the proper bags in which to carry their books and often cannot move on for further studies for lack of paying for damaged books. Thanks for helping out our kids!!
Well we're back and well rested! Pictured above is Nikki (the amazing woman who organized the Hong Kong fundraiser for Nata) and her family camping along the Nata river. They rented this 4x4 in South Africa and drove all the way to visit us in Nata to see how our project is going. We think it's so important that our donors can hear directly from people who visit here and see for themselves the work we are doing. Below is Nikki's account of their visit.

Nata visit, January 2008

For our tenth anniversary we treated ourselves to a visit to Botswana, to show our children where we were married. This also gave us the opportunity to see how things have progressed at Nata since I last visited in 2006. We spent 5 nights in and near Nata, although for most of thos...

Working on this website and in Nata is an awesome experience and a little bit addictive. We've been eating and breathing this project for almost 2 years. Even when we didn't post it was only because we couldn't get through. We've even posted while on vacation in an effort to keep your interest. Jon is working hard to restore paypal so we will use this time to take a breather and come back refreshed. So please, check back with us in the 2nd week of February and we will continue the story as it unfolds. We sent off a check for P10,000 (about US$1800) today for our autoclave, sterilized bags, and digital thermometers for Nata Clinic. Hopefully they will arrive when we get back. It's tough times here in Nata right now as we've had an outbreak of diahho...

Worldview Magazine is published by the National Peace Corps Association. The winter 2007/8 issue was dedicated to technology advances in the developing world. The cover features a masai tribesman checking cattle prices. As the regional winner of the Peace Corps ICT story contest, Melody was asked to submit an article for this issue.

While the article is not too clear here you can see the photo of Nata Clinic staff wearing their protective gowns. The three page article begins on page 21. Unfortunately, they did not include our article on their website www.worldviewmagazine.com so you will be unable to read it. The article basically outlines how the website was started with the three co-founders and how we are using the funds that are raised.

Take one more look at the old chairs that were being used at Nata Clinic. Staff were so thrilled when the truck FINALLY showed up with 10 chairs, office supplies and cleaning supplies.

We spent almost P5000 ($800) on furnishings and supplies for the clinic. We bought 4 black chairs with arms, 4 black chairs without arms and 2 chairs on wheels for use in the 2 consulting rooms. The doctor is so happy to be able to roll around while he checks out the patient. The blue chairs also have good back support and the staff and so grateful as they were having very sore backs at the end of the day.

As you can see we also bought 3 reams of paper, 50 pens, and hardcover books for documenting clinic activites. The general duty attendants were happy for the bleach, g...

Ron Hudson of the International Carnival of Positivities sent out a plea on the web for glasses to be sent to us. We distributed some of the glasses earlier but had about 15 pair of very strong prescription glasses. At the end of the clothing distribution we asked the elders to come up and try the glasses. IT WAS AMAZING. The woman pictured above has glacoma and she was able to see something for the first time in years. She looked into my eyes and her face just lit up. What a moment! We know the glasses aren't perfect for them but it is surely better than nothing.

Most of the elderly had never worn any type of glasses in their lives. Georgina help this lady as she didn't exactly know how they were to be worn and really couldn't even see t...

Like all community meetings, everyone bowed their heads in prayer. As you can see, our elder covers her head and shoulders while she prays aloud.

The heavy rains in Zimbabwe have caused the Nata River to flow over our small bridge that so many kids use to get to Nata Primary School. While most of us love the rain the beautiful river it can also be a death trap. A 21 year old male from Maposa, a village just 16km up the Nata River, reportedly tried to cross the river and was swept away. The body was found only a few km north of this bridge. We also lost a 2 year old in Sepako, another village upstream from Nata, but he was pulled out immediately but pronounced dead at Nata Clinic. Our condolences go out to both families.

These three Nata kids play it safe and refrain from trying to cross the bridge. They were afraid to even pose for this picture. Even with the water flowing over the bridge, some ...

Nikki Shaw and husband Tony May came all the way from Hong Kong to visit us here in Nata. You may remember that it was Nikki and Tony who coordinated the huge fundraiser that brought almost $30,000 to Nata. Mr. Tiro arranged for a special lunch for them and their 3 children. The highlight was when Tony hooked up his camera to Mr. Tiro's television and we could see video of the fundraiser held for Nata. We saw the African drummers, the singers, the party goers, and the wonderful master of ceremony. It was almost surreal to watch that video of the Hong Kong party right in Mr. Tiro's living room.

Religious life is very important in Nata. Over 95% of Botswana's people consider themselves a Christian. Unlike in other parts of the world, religion is not kept out of the workplace. The nurses and patients sing and pray every morning before the clinic opens. The highest level meetings in the country are always opened with prayer. Today, the male members of the ZCC (Zion Christian Church) came to the Nata clinic to sing, dance, and pray. Most church members have uniforms. The ZCC men all wear beige jackets, pants, brown ties and white shoes that they make themselves from cow leather and tires serve as the soles of the shoes.

There are many cultural norms regarding religion. Women must always cover their head when they pray. Men must always wear a dustcoat (jacket) and wom...

People in Nata tend to celebrate New Years Eve more than the Christmas holiday. Everyone loves to stay up to 12 midnite and drink, dance, and just hang out with their friends and family. The place to be in Nata on this New Years Eve was Mr. Tiro's house where he threw his annual employee party. There was a DJ, food, drinks, fireworks and the annual prize giving. Mr. Tiro is one of the few business owners in Botswana to engage in profit sharing with his employees. Melody got to be the guest of honor and handed out cash prizes for the best cleaner, best fuel attendant, best self-developed employees and profit sharing checks for managers. The total handed out was P48,000 ($8,000) and checks ranged from P500 to P13,000!!! It was an amazing night and the employees were all so happy to put some ...

It's always strange around the holidays as what appears to be new faces popping up all over the village. They really are from Nata but just work or study outside. Remember Moetapele Coach Gasemotse from last Christmas? He is a Nata native who has been attending medical school in Australia and is back in the village for the holidays. Well, it's congratulations to Coach as he JUST COMPLETED MEDICAL SCHOOL!!! It's Dr. Coach from now on. He is only the second person from Nata to go on to become a doctor. We are so proud of him. He will be returning to Australia in January to specialize in Psychiatry. Coach is very disturbed over the treatment of people with neuro-biological disorders and hopes to come back to Botswana and be one of only Motswana Psychi...

December 5th was International Volunteer Day sponsored by the United Nations. We were invited to attend the celebration but were unable to make the 8 hour trip to the capital where it was held. We heard the event was well attended and everyone present received the above pamphlet outlining accomplishments of volunteers in Botswana. It just so happens that Peace Corp Volunteer Ed Pettit from New Xade is shown on the cover with some kids in his village. Congratulations Ed on all the great work you are doing in New Xade. We were very proud to be included in the publication.

It's a tad blurry but this is the article that appears in the pamphlet on page 8. We chose to picture local volunteers and their contribution to the Nata website. The article as...

We've been so busy with Christmas we didn't even have time to tell you we got some national press once again. Mr. Tiro and Melody were interviewed by Phillimon Mmeso. He is a correspondent for several newspapers in Botswana and he wrote a story about the Nata AIDS and Orphans Trust which appeared in the new weekly newspaper Echo. The article appeared in the December 13th issue. His focus was on the Trust so he left out our other co-founder Jon even though we mentioned him several times (sorry Jon). Other than that ommission we want to thank him for a nice article and his support. He plans to write more about our efforts in future editions. We've reprinted the article below.

Phillimon Mmeso writes:

Nata AIDS and Orphans Trust has given hope and joy to the people of Nata. Led by Seloma Tir...

Christmas in Nata - Final Part 3

After having a great time at Joyce's we then drove around the village to give blessings. All of Santas helpers and Elfs rode in the back of the truck and handed out suckers and potato chips. Along the way we were joined by some of Mr. Tiros friends from Francistown and we made our way through the village in caravan style delivering sweets. Our first stop was to a compound in Manakanagore Ward and the kids along with their mom were so grateful for this small treat.

It doesn't take long for word to get out. Kids came running to the truck to receive their sweets. This is where Santa's helpers really came in handy. They did a great job wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and they helped to keep things under control. The children show their gratitude and manners by putting the pal...

Next stop was the compound of Joyce R. Joyce is such a nice lady and has the sweetest twin boys and daughter you'd ever want to meet. She's been having a tough time lately so we/you were so happy to help her out a bit. Pictured above is Joyce with the extended family. You also gave her 20 pounds of rice, a hen, a case of canned fish, washing powder, toothpaste, toothbrushes and cooking oil.

Pictured above is the family opening their gifts. They were so shocked that someone would do this for them.

Santas helpers had to jump in and show them how some of the toys worked. You gave the tiny kids colorful educational toys. The twins got dump trucks, race cars, a toy boat, and the older boy got a soccer ball.

Pictured above is one of the twins playing with his dump ...

The day began with Mr. Tiro arriving at Melody's to load up all the Christmas toys, food, clothes, and sweets that would be distributed in the village.

Thank goodness for the work of Santas helpers and elfs. Mr. Tiro's daughters, neices, and nephew joined in on Christmas morning to help. Pictured above L-R are Dudu Tiro, Kelly Tiro, Monkemedi Tiro, Theo Tiro and Maatla Tiro. As you will see later, things got crazy and they did an awesome job!

First stop was Nata Clinic. A skeleton staff had to be on duty to give out TB treatment and deal with emergencys. We brought soft drinks and cookies for all the staff as we knew they were depressed about working on the holiday. When we arrived, Dr. Roger was busy sewing up a patient who had been cut by her own brother. He had de...
