There’s a commonly-held notion that as far as weight loss is concerned, slow and steady wins the day. In other words, gradual weight loss (often advised in the order of 1-2 pounds a week) leads to better long term results than more rapid loss. I wrote about this back in May. This blog focused on [...] (Source: Dr John Biffa's Blog)

When it comes to advising about what to eat for fat loss, I’m very much into quality over quantity. Eating a protein-rich diet which is relatively low in carb tends to work very well for the purposes of fat loss, even when no restriction is placed on calorie intake. Why?
I have to admit, I approach weight loss supplements with an extra degree of skepticism. So when I went to track down the details of a study claiming that drinking green tea led to weight loss, I was fully expecting to be underwhelmed. I was surprised. The study involved three dozen subjects who were obese and had metabolic syndrome. For eight weeks, they drank 4 cups of green tea or took a green tea supplement that provided the equivalent amount of active ingredients every day. They were told to eat (and exercise) the way they usually did (or didn't). And, in fact, dietary records taken at the beginning and end showed that their nutrient intake didn't change significantly over that time.Yet, they lost an average of 5 pounds a piece. Not bad. Five pounds in eight wee...

Will the first in a new round of diet drugs win FDA approval? The briefing documents released by the agency this morning reveal that Qnexa, which will be reviewed on Thursday by an agency panel, may cause psychiatric and cardiovascular side effects. FDA medical reviewers also believe the pill should have undergone more testing in pregnant women and they recommend warnings to avoid the possibility of fetal deformities. Why? There were 34 pregnancies during a clinical trial, despite recommendations for using two forms of birth control.
For those who may not recall, Qnexa is a combo treatment - it includes phentermine, which was part of the fen-phen cocktail that was yanked in 1997, and topiramate, which is marketed as the Topamax seizure med. But phentermine can be habit forming and is contr...

Hi guys,

Two years ago I lost 28lbs through weight watchers. My goal weight was 135lbs (I'm 5'6"). In fact, I went down to just under 130 and hung out there for a while. At the time, I felt too skinny, and allowed myself to put on a few pounds. I'm most comfortable at 132. However, since Christmas I have been maintaining at 137 - 140. I have a generally healthy diet, but I just LOVE creamy cheese, red wine, pate; really fattening treats. If I get to 135 I "reward" myself by indulging in this stuff. I KNOW that if I put my mind to it I could get rid of these 5ish pounds in a week or two. And every Monday I start pointing; by Friday I'm promising to start again on Monday.

The other problem is I've been exercising a lot less. I'm a runner, and did a little race (10k) in June and then took...

I’ve eaten when I’ve been hungry, and that’s about it. I found a really decent medication schedule that’s kept me MOSTLY free from vomiting.
Losing weight might boil down to a simple “calories in, calories out” equation, but the speedier your metabolism, the more that equation works in your favor. Not sure what to do beyond your regular workout and low-calorie meal? Check out these 15 tips for increasing your metabolism from Women’s Health:

When You Wake Up:

Eat a good breakfast - Eating a balanced breakfast every morning is important for keeping your metabolism revved; without it, your body goes into starvation mode to conserve energy.

Did you know that 5,000 people a year die from tainted food? From everything from salmonella to e-coli, U.S. food is in danger because it goes unchecked at so many points. And foods that shouldn’t be causing us illnesses are being contaminated, leaving us a very small safety window. Read more hear: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/eid/vol5no5/mead.htm and http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs237/en/

While the FDA runs around trying to catch up with what is contaminated, and a food safety bill sits stalled in the senate since July, we are left with dangerous foods.
It is almost impossible to keep track of food recalls today. When we worried about mad-cow disease, the whole world seemed to stop and take notice, the tomato scare, a little bit less, the peanut-butter thing, ehhh, wh...

Hi, I'm 14 years old and I'm around 5'5" and I weigh around 180 pounds. I need some advice to where I can lose weight. I don't eat like a pig, I eat around two or three snacks a day and that's about it and maybe one meal. But I don't really exercise except about a mile and a half to school. I need help to help me lose weight without having to quit eating because my parents would kill me if I ate any less. (Source: Diet Blog)

I'm 14 years old, 5'9, and I weigh 245 pounds, I've been warned by doctor, that I need to lose weight, and I really want to try to, but every time I try to my parents don't support me, and they if I try to deny to eat junk food, they claim I'm anorexic, and I'm not. My dad supports me, and wants me to feel good in my skin, but my mother is mad, because she eats like a pig and gains weight, while my sisters lose like 3 pounds a day. I want to lose at least 100 pounds by the end of my eight grade year, and I want to feel good in my skin.

I'm a cheeleader, and I'm flexible, and I love sports, it's the eating that is the problem. My parents don't buy anythng but junk to eat, and I try to eat healthy, and lose weight. As you can probably tell, that i'm not the most popular girl in the school....

The conventional nutritional approach for ‘heart health’ is a low-fat (specifically, low saturated fat), high-carbohydrate diet. For many reasons, this is not the sort of diet I would generally recommend to ward off heart disease. For more about this, click here.
One particular form of carbohydrate that has been vigorously promoted for its heart-healthy properties are [...] (Source: Dr John Biffa's Blog)

By: Carlene Helble-Elite Nutrition Intern
A buzzword you may be hearing in the dieting world right now is ‘mindful eating’. Being mindful is listening to your body’s hungry full cycle without agonizing about calories and the key to breaking the eat repent repeat diet cycle. In a teleseminar hosted by Dr. Michelle May , author of ‘Am I Hungry’, her experience as a perpetual yo-yo dieter was used to explain where some of us tend to get off track. Dr. May noticed that people who struggle with their weight, or struggle with making healthy choices are more likely to eat due to environmental and emotional situations. Being sad or lonely can trigger the consumption of salty or sweet foods, something that can really throw a diet off track!
To help us understand our eating decisions and...

I'm 16 and I have diabetes type 1, so I have to use insulin, and yes insulin does make you gain weight. I gained about 30 pounds in the last 3 1/2 years(I've had diabetes for about 3 years now,) and if I don't stay in shape then my diabetes can affect other organs in my body. My eyes, kidneys, etc.

So today I started a low carb diet. In the morning I ate a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich with a glass of milk only about 50 carbs. Not bad, I've been drinking water all day long so I can stay hydrated. In the after noon for lunch I ate this delicious fish salad. It's actually the first time I ever had that it tasted just like a chicken salad. (You want the recipe. just ask.) After about three hours had past I started to exercise. Then for a snack later on I will have a portion of cereal (po...

School is out for the summer, so your children should be getting more exercise than they did in school, even if the school had a good physical education program, right? Or are your children the type that spend a lot of time in front of the television, sitting and playing games on computers, and other activities that don't require any physical activity?Schools can find ways to put together good elementary PE lesson plans and programs for those who are older, in high school, because they have the resources available to them to do so. Parents need to do the best that they can to find ways to keep their children active during summer months. Why? Childhood obesity is becoming more and more of a concern as so many of the things children do don't require much physical activity, so the same progra...

Will Prescription Diet Pills Become Hot - Again?

More than a decade ago, the fen-phen weight-loss cocktail and a related diet pill called Redux made headlines after links to heart and lung troubles forced a recall, which eventually cost Wyeth $21 billion in charges. Other prescription drugs - Abbott’s Meridia and Roche’s Xenical - never fared well due to side effects. Sanofi-Aventis never sold Acomplia due to psychiatric side effects. And even the over-the-counter Alli pill, which is really a version of Xenical, is suspect these days thanks to concerns over liver injury (see here).
Now, though, a trio of would-be diet pill makers is focusing attention anew on the long-disgraced obesity market. This is underscored by Eisai’s willingness to pay $50 million for the rights to sell Arena Pharmaceuticals’ lorcaserin in...

I'm a failure.

I've tried a hundred times to get myself together and get the weight off and feel better, but I can't eat healthy for a long periods of time without indulging in bad food. I actually LIKE working out! But I havn't been able to make a myself go on a regular basis. I think if I could develope a regular routine, I could stick to it. The hard part is actually developing that routine.

So THE TRUTH IS...I'm stuck. I'm not sure where to get the motivation to do what I need to do. I have an amazing, "other half", that supports me in whatever I do. You'd think I would take advantage of the fact that he supports me so much but the TRUTH IS I eat the worst when I am around him. It's like when I am the happiest, I over eat. Why is that??? I know for a lot of people they eat when the...

Hello, I am in dire need of some good advice! I am 28 years old, female, 5'4, starting weight was 177. Seven weeks ago I started strength training and running, which I have never done! I am now running 2.5 to 3 miles five days a week. I started my calorie intake about 1200 a day, I have lost 10 pounds but that was in the first two and a half weeks, so I increased my calorie intake to 1500 calories a day for the last 2 weeks but I still haven't lost anymore. I understand it doesn't come off all at once but I went from no exercise to 15 miles a week, I really expected the first 30 to melt off. I am now at 167 but my goal is 135. Can someone please tell me if I am doing something wrong? Any advice to rev up my weight loss?? Thanks so much (Source: Diet Blog)

One of my favorite presentations at Food for Your Whole Life Symposium was Dr. Brian Wansink, author of Mindless Eating. A leader in the field of food psychology, he has unveiled a lot of the hidden influences on how much we eat, and how consumers make food choices. Did you know that we make at least 250 food choices every day?

Rather than being the next fad diet which promises you can lose weight effortlessly without thought, he uses years of food psychology research to re-engineer your food environment so that you will eat less without even knowing. While it is easy to blame fast food, big food, and the government for the rising rates of obesity in America, this food fight begins in our own homes.
Some tips for preventing Mindless Eating in YOUR life:

We eat with our eyes not out stom...

I am a camp counselor at a regular camp (not a Fat Camp) and I really need to lose about 15-20lbs. I really want to eat healthy and stay fit because those are two major requirements for my job (not only for my body, but for stress, moods, etc.)
The food at camp is essentially basic (scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, Mexican, Greek, etc) so too much fat or too many carbs is not THAT much of a problem (although the desserts are to die for!)
For Breakfast, there is always a fruit and yogurt bar which also has cereal, peanut butter and things like that and for Lunch and Dinner they always have a wide variety of veggies at the salad bar (but no fat free dressing options which sucks!) Everyday, the menu is different so it's not boring to be eating the same things over and over and the food is u...

I'm sure there are many bariatric physicians and surgeons who treat their patients conscientiously and holistically. Unfortunately, gastric bypass surgery has become a cash cow for unscrupulous docs operating "drive-through" lap-band clinics--and the consequences can be fatal.

Gastric bypass is a highly effective way to promote weight loss. Unfortunately, it's an equally effective way to create serious malnutrition. Because the amount of food you can eat and your ability to digest and absorb nutrients are so drastically reduced after surgery, your diet after surgery must be very carefully managed--forever. But patients are being operated on and sent out the door with little more than one-sheet hand-out of vague dietary instructions and little meaningful follow-up.

Where weight loss is concerned, there are many ways to skin a cat. But the two most commonly applied dietary strategies are low-fat and low-carb. This week I came across a report of a study here in which obese women were put on either a ‘low-fat’ or ‘lower-carb’ diet for a period of 12 weeks. [...] (Source: Dr John Biffa's Blog)

Hello! I'm a 21 year old female, about 5'9" looking to go from 186(ish) down to about 145(ish).

Plan?
I'm still in my early stages of planning. I want to get the GoWear Fit (numbers really motivate me) and start keeping track of what I eat (considering vegetarian/raw diet). Several times I have began running, but never kept it up long term. Possibly going to follow the couch potato to 5k plan (simple) to start.

I'm really just looking for someone who can relate to me, share tips, and just motivate me when I'm down. And I want to be there for them! If you are interested, please let me know!! (Source: Diet Blog)

I have been through 5 years of diets, weight and food obsesssion which have led me to low self esteem, insecurity in the romatic area and Body Dysmorphic disorder. I have tried everything in order to loose weight: from cabbage soup to apple vinegar pills and from meal relacements to eating nothing. I always went back on binge eating after a diet.

The only thing that worked for me were these 6 steps:

1. discover the events and the beliefs created by the events which caused your weight gain;
2. understand that those past events may have nothing to do neither with you, nor with your worth, hence your disempowering beliefs may not be true;
3. know yourself;
4. create optimistic future expectations;
5. eliminate all your disempowering beliefs and your weight gain feeders. Empowering beliefs w...

They’re working pretty hard, influencing whether we make or burn fat, and how many calories we take from our food.
According to the Los Angeles Times, researchers have realized that there are links between gut bacteria and weight metabolism in mice. Though there are links among humans as well, scientists aren’t as certain about the intricacies.
One of my favorite things about the Farmers Market is that it shows me a world of new vegetables to experiment with! Case 1: The Pea Tendril.
Pea tendrils (also know as pea shoots or greens) are the tender young leaves and delicate shoots of the pea plant, all of which are edible. They have a crisp texture and taste like a cross between peas and spinach. This is an exciting way to get your nutrient-rich greens in, and they are high in vitamin A and C, and folic acid.
A veggie seasonal to the spring and early summer, you will probably only find them in your farmers market or a specialty grocer. Pick out fresh stems with a bright green color, and make sure they are not too dry or stiff. They can be served raw, tossed in a salad, or wilted, by lightly steaming or stir-frying them.
"Where to start? Where to start?" - I repeat this line often as I am confused what I should do to become happy and healthy. I read so much about weight loss, I research and research. I wish I could lose the weight...........

I almost hate myself for being overweight. I see myself getting bigger and bigger and it is so sickening to me. I lost weight before (stress and depression) and gain all of it plus more back. I can not stop eating the foods that are wrong for me, I wish I could.

I am 5'5" and 215 lbs. I hate my body! I am really starting to hate life. I am so unhappy. What bothers me is that I am not overweight to the point where I can not move. I need help. Please. I use to ride my bike and go walking, now all I do is sit and eat and get fat. I really wish I could be active again. ...

Hello All,
I am new to the site but old to "dieting". My weight battle began when I got pregnant with my oldest who will soon be turning 8. I gained 70+ pounds during the pregnancy and yo-yo'd up and down a bit through two more pregnancies. My youngest is now 4. I'm 5'9" and weigh 217lbs.

Despite several attempts at dieting & exercising I've never lost a substantial amount of weight. For a while I had thought I "came to terms" with it & had accepted the fact that this was now me. My husband, bless his heart, has never said one unkind word to me about my body & loves me now as much as he always has. It is I who has the problem with the fat me but not enough motivation to do anything about it. So here I am, the former physically fit Army girl turned unhappy fat housewife.

So...maybe I'm a...

I have been trying to lose 15 pounds this summer and have been taking classes at the gym; spinning, kickboxing, yoga etc. I like to switch it up. However, I've been finding that the more I exercise the hungrier and hungrier I get later that day, or more so the next day. I try to go to the gym about 3-4 times a week.

Exercising has only been making me hungrier, and although my body is becoming more toned I've noticed that I've only been gaining weight instead of losing it. I try to eat healthy, however never completely saying no to something if I really have a craving for it.

Any advice on losing weight-- if I should stop exercising as much, or advice to control hunger binges? (Source: Diet Blog)

I finished a post-abdominoplasty check, with drains and sutures removed. I then began to tell the patient how to slowly increase her activities and exercise.
She smiled and said: “I have to tell you. I got back on the Wii just to walk yesterday. It told me I had lost weight too quickly and that I need to slow down.”

I work out, I am a little over weight by like 10 pounds, but my legs have always been an issue for me. Ever since I had my first daughter 19 years ago my legs have been disgusting. I always thought that it was cellulite. I went to get an estimate on cellulite treatments and the doctor told me it was saggy skin. Well thats just great!!! Turns out the treatment for this is over $4000.00 which I can not afford.

I think my issue started one day I was at a pool in Palm Springs and this guy came to me and said you have the most beautiful face but your body looked messed Up! Wow that hurt me so bad and I have never been comfortable in public wearing a bathing suit again.

I try to explain to my husband how I feel but he does not understand. This issue makes me very depressed I dont wear shorts,...

Conventional wisdom often dictates that we should eat three meals a day with nothing in between. The idea here is that snacks just add to our calorie intake, and therefore can only contribute to our body weight. However, I find in practice that for successful weight management, more frequent feeding is required. Regular eating can, [...] (Source: Dr John Biffa's Blog)

When you think of naturally, ahem, big-boned animals, we bet elephants leap to mind first. Have you ever seen a skinny elephant? No, because they don’t exist. But zookeepers in Fresno, California put two elephants on a strict diet to help them lose weight and live longer. And together, these Biggest Loser bruisers have lost 2,175 pounds. (News that would no doubt bring Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels to tears.)
The zookeepers didn’t know that the elephants were overweight until they had enough money to buy a scale. Now, these formerly pudgy pachyderms eat healthy foods including fruits and vegetables, and keep to an exercise routine. While we wouldn’t call the tusked behemoths shapely (that’s just weird, Seattle Times), these guys most likely have ...

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been regularly going to the gym again. I would hardly call it going often, but I’ve consistently gone 3 days a week this month, which is more regular than where I was at earlier this year. Earlier this year I’d go three days a week, and then once, and then twice, and then maybe back to once. Most of this is because I was going in the evening and my evening schedule is so unpredictable, what with diabetes support group meetings, dinners with friends, running errands and seeing my fiance.
Because of my hectic evening schedule, I decided to start going to the gym in the morning. But I’m also finding that difficult as well. Because the time I test my blood sugar level before going to the gym is also the first test of the day, I don&#8...

© alancleaver_2000According to a new Japanese study, daily supplements of Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055 (LG2055) may help weight loss in people with obese tendencies.

Findings published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition revealed that twelve weeks of consuming a fermented milk product containing the said Lactobacillus strain was associated with a 4.6 % reduction in abdominal fat and a 3.3 % reduction in subcutaneous fat. Also, the researchers reported that body weight dropped by 1.4 % and waist size decreased by 1.8 %.

it's very difficult for me to count calories, and then burn more than i have consumed.
for example: if i eat veggies, fruit, and eggs for breakfast (which i think is a pretty healthy choice), i dont know how many calories are in each of the eggs i eat, and each of the fruits i eat, etc. so my questoin being: how do i know how many calories to burn at the end of the day, if i dont even know how many i've taken in?

Thanks so much!

I'm a competing distance runner at my high school and although I'm good, I'm by no means the best. This summer I'm hoping to change that and really push myself to get ahead, but there's one thing that I know has impeded me and that is my muscle mass. I'm completely lean muscle, with a low body fat, yet I have a large amount of upper body muscle mass, particularly in the chest. My coach has said that I need to lose that muscle as it in no way contributes to my racing. I know what i need to do once I hit the roads all I need to know is, how do I lose the upper body through targeted, systematic dieting?

My goal is to get down to 120 by the end of the summer and I would also like to know if that's unrealistic. (Source: Diet Blog)

So, what do people ask a TV doctor? Since my blogs topics have been a little heavy lately…I thought I’d lighten it up a little by sharing the ten funniest or most interesting questions I’ve received over the last two years.
A preamble….
• I am not disclosing confidential patient information. These conversations occur in an online, open chat room.
• The viewers’ chats are verbatim….including the spelling.

Hi. I currently weigh 171.5 lbs and I've been exercising lightly and limiting my portion size for around 2 weeks already. There is a huge culprit: I'm asian and I LOVE rice!!! Especially white rice. I love carbohydrates. My weight has NOT fluctuated much at all even though I feel like I eat less (low fat fruit smoothie for breakfast, 1 1/12 cup rice and salad for lunch, 1 1/12 cup rice and salad and some ham for dinner) and exercise more (15-17 min of cardio in the morning 6x/week).

What am I doing wrong??? I really want to lose weight! (Source: Diet Blog)

I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. I need some tips on what to eat to help me lose weight. I am not too good with calculating calories and neither am I good a looking at food by grams e.g. have 7gms of carbs with 8gms of protein.

I would like something simplistic, in easy to measure portions.

I also would like some positive motivation. On the web I find mostly depressing stories about women with pcos and insulin resistance.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks xoxo (Source: Diet Blog)

I just finished the two weeks of phase one and found out that I only lost 0.6 lbs. I am frustrated because the book suggests that you may lose up to eight pounds in the first two weeks! My goal is to lose 15 pounds.

Anyone have any idea what might be wrong? (Source: Diet Blog)

Q. I was wondering if the calorie counts are accurate for raw
potatoes. I've heard they have a lot of
"resistant starch." Does this mean that some of the calories listed do
not get fully digested and pass through our system?A. Actually, raw potatoes are not the ones that contain resistant starch. In potatoes that have been cooked and then cooled, some of the starches appear to be converted into a form that is more resistant to enzymatic digestion. As a result, a few of those starches might indeed pass through the system undigested. (For more about resistant starches, see this recent episode of my weekly podcast.)But the larger question remains: Are the effects of resistant starches accounted for in the calorie counts? My tentative answer is: probably not. As mos...

Every diet or weight loss expert seems to recommend keeping food journals of everything you eat if you want to lose weight. I want to know how successful people are with this really. Is it honestly worth it all the time and energy? I can't even keep my checkbook balanced and I definitely eat more times throughout the day than write checks. Also, it just seems really inconvenient to have to physically carry around a journal with you everywhere. I do know that there are certain diet programs like Nutrisystem or Jenny Craig that offer online tools to keep track of what you eat. An online tool seems like it would be easier than having to write it all down, but to use it you have to be on their meal plan, and I'm more interested in trying to lose weight on my own eating real foods.

I guess m...

Hello,
I hope someone can give me some advice. My niece will be three in July. She is about 3 1/2 feet tall and weighs just over 50 pounds. She's so big she wears 7-8 in girls clothes. She's constantly running into things and tripping because she's overweight.

Her pediatrician has recommended to my sister to stop giving her sugary or fattening foods because of her weight. When she eats she shovels food in her mouth and barely chews! I'm always afraid she's going to choke! She gags on her food occassionally. She ALWAYS wants to eat. She will whine for long periods of time when she is told no.

How do I or should I talk to my sister about this. Diabetes and heart disease run on BOTH sides of our family. My niece's father (my sisters' boyfriend) is actually a diabetic. I worry about her h...

I go to an all-girls school. Im 15 and I weigh 185 pounds. I feel like a complete disaster, and my mother tries to remind me of this every chance she gets. I guess you could say the girls at school are not that bad, all things considered. However, I often feel like I'm not invited to things such as birthday parties from girls I considered to be my friends. No one has actually said anything, but I know it is because I don't 'fit' in, literally. Where I'm from, enyone over a medium is considered fat. I wear extra-large.

What's the point in living, when everyone around you pities you? Will I ever get through this? (Source: Diet Blog)

Do artificial sweeteners lead to weight gain? A lot of people rushed to judgment against artificial sweeteners based on preliminary evidence that they might increase appetite or sugar cravings, or even cause elevated blood sugar levels. But the ensuing research has failed to deliver a definitive indictment. Although there seems to be a correlation between diet soda consumption and weight gain, it is hard to say whether this is a biochemical effect. It could just be that people prone to weight gain are more likely to choose sugar-free foods in an (apparently ineffective) attempt to stem the tide. I've also always suspected a behavioral component. Maybe people unconsciously over-compensate for the calories they save with the diet soda.
Hi there, I started my weight loss back in January this year when I hit 385lbs. I am currently sitting around 343 lbs but have hit that point in my weight loss that I am going no place even though I am at the gym 5 days a week.

The first 40 lbs took me 5 months to lose now I can't break that 40 lbs mark and I have about 80 more to go to be where I would like to be. I burn approx 700-900 cal on the days I just do cardio and a little more when I do weights. I am already spending over 1 1/2 hrs at the gym and don't really want to spend more time then that.

Does anyone have any good hint or ideas how I can break this Plateau???

This is what I have been doing lately for a workout...

5-minutes Warm Up Elliptical at 60-70 rpm
13 x (1-minute very intense, 1-minute moderate-easy)

So, i eat really healthy for all of my meals. I go to the gym 6 days a week which includes cardio and weight training each time.

Normally for breakfast i have kashi go lean cereal, fiber one cereal, or oatmeal. Then lunch: a small salad with a protein or an omlette with veggies, and then dinner a protein with veggies and maybe a carb. During the day before these meals i'll have small snacks , such as fruits, nuts, or 2 pieces of deli meat.

So, i do really well during the day, but then after dinner when i'm around the apartment i can't stop snacking!! I don't know how to stop it, i really try, but then i give into the urge. After dinner tonight i had some papaya as my dessert, but just now, i had two bowls of cereal, some nuts, and then a cookie! ah! someone help with advice please! (So...

So I posted earlier on a discussion board about the Anne Collins diet. I just read her entire website and it sounds pretty amazing. I love her whole point of view and the support system she offers and the ebooks look pretty neat.

What I'm worried about is the fact that in three months I'll be in college on the meal plan. I'm gonna have to eat either the cafeteria food or any food that I'll buy. And I'm planning on being a broke college student! I just don't feel like spending $20 (which is a lot when you're trying to count your pennies) on a diet plan that I won't be able to follow.

I'd love to hear from people who have used or are using her diet, and whether or not I'd be able to get the same results as everyone else does even though I won't have access to all the same foods.

Thanks!...

I started the south beach diet (SBD) a month ago. I fell off the dieting wagon and now I am back on. I restarted phase 1 but have not lost any weight. I have a wedding to attend July 31 in Vegas, it is coctail attire. I am so afraid I will not lose any weight.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom? (Source: Diet Blog)

Yes, even health-conscious people struggle with weight loss. Years ago, when I was winning trips with a company that I have promoted supplements for it amazed me to see how many of the people getting up to receive their awards were very overweight. It just shows that many of us, no matter how health conscious we are, can struggle with weight issues.I have 20 lbs I'd like to lose, and started to cut back on foods, but found that I needed a jump-start, so am doing a month or 2 of NutriSystem...then must, must, MUST discover what it is that I, personally, must do to maintain my weight. It seems to me that bread must be my weak point, as there is little to no bread in the NutriSystem program...there are lots of yummy goodies, but they are higher in protein. NutriSystem isn't the only way to go...

I have been on this weight loss plan for little over two weeks now and i have lost all of my motivation. I began this plan really good and very diligent, but now its all going down hill. The only thing i think about is calories and ways to burn them. When it comes to food i think about it constantly. I am worried that my plan is going to be sabotaged by my lose of morale. Anyone have any advice??

The scale slightly nudged downward. Then we went on vacation and I decided my diet deserved a vacation as well and stopped writing things down. I have not been able to motivate to write things down again. I have several days where I have written down my healthy breakfast. I have even written down lunch a few days as well. But I haven't made it to write down everything through dinner. The scale is standing still.I do have the best of intentions. I was told losing weight would be very difficult for me so I don't have any great expectations of losing zillions of pounds.
As the population grows fatter, the U.S. military and law enforcement agencies are having trouble finding recruits that can pass basic fitness tests required for entry. (Read more from USA Today) And the situation among the existing ranks may be even more dire. Once you're on the force, there are often no further fitness requirements. According to researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health, our first responders (police, fire, and emergency response personnel) are increasingly overweight, obese, and out of shape--putting both themselves and public safety at risk.

Dr. Kevin Jablonski, of the Los Angeles Police Department, is concerned enough about the health, safety, and effectiveness of his force that he's hired a full-time Registered Dietitian to provide nutritio...

As I'm sure you've heard, the U.S. government is considering new measures that would force food manufacturers to gradually reduce the amount of sodium in processed and packaged foods.

Public health experts argue that reducing sodium would save lives, primarily by reducing high blood pressure. I have mixed feelings about this. There's the question of whether the government should be reaching this far into the marketplace and personal choices. There's the question of whether we should reduce everyone's salt intake, when only a minority of people actually benefit. There are even legitimate questions about whether that minority would benefit. (See this related post.)

But maybe there's another benefit we're not considering. Salty foods stimulate appetite and lead to overeating.&n...

As terrible as it sounds too some people who push the healthy bit, I want to be (borderline) model thin. I adore the thin look and would like to achieve it. The issue is I am about 30 pounds away from this. I'm not overweight but regardless of my desire for thinness I could defiantly afforded to lose a good ten pounds.

The point is I am ready to lose weight but I need the extra push. Any advice on affordable diets? I am a college girl who needs to hold on to every penny I can get. Any advice would be helpful; minus the judgmental nonsense. (Source: Diet Blog)

Hi,

I worked for years at a office and it was very unhealthy. I struggled for a long time to get in shape and I was getting worse and worse. I finally buckled down squeezed little workouts throughout the day, riding my bike to work, and buying healthy foods. It's really turning around....I have even signed up for a gym to keep fit.

It was hard since I sat in an office all day, but re-arranging my schedule a bit, and I got some calorie burning going. (Source: Diet Blog)

Okay so I've been struggling forever with my weight. I'm hugely obese. Okay so it has not been forever. When I look at pics of me in high school which was about 15 years ago... I see a skinny girl that was a little curvier than her friends, but in no way as obese as what I thought I was back then. That was due to some school age boys bullying years earlier calling me ugly and fat. After the 8th grade i started to see myself as ugly and fat. But looking back I was neither.

I still deal with those issues now but yes now I"m fat. I'm only 4'11" and i weigh 217 lbs. That is a lot of weight for such a small height. I need to get it off. I guess if i exercised it might come off easier but my house is small, and I mean small. I have no privacy, and can not work out in front of my hsuband and 2 ...

Seriously, I really did lose over 50 pounds and I didn't pay for an expensive trainer or dietitian. I didn't follow any of the fad diets and I didn't take any special fruit berries or supplements. Really I didn't spend much money at all, but what it did take was a lot of hard work.

It wasn't instant either. If you are looking for some quick fix to fit into a special outfit in a couple of weeks, sorry I don't know if I can really help you. However, if you are committed and really want to do this then I'm sure the same system can work for you. I won't tell you its easy though, that would be a lie. There are lots of days that I just wanted to pig out on all my old comfort foods (mmmm.....potato skins loaded with gooey cheese and piled high with sour cream). Getting past that hurdle and actua...

An interesting statistic cited by cardiologist Arthur Agatston (South Beach Diet) in this morning's second session:Steady state exercise training (such as jogging at a steady pace) had no significant impact on belly fat or insulin levels, while intermittent high intensity training (such as interval training) produced significant reductions in both.

Hi everyone, this is my first blog ever.

The idea came to me the other night when I received a call from my niece Natalie, who lives in another state. She has a friend, Kim who wants to lose 15 to 20 lbs by the time her husband comes back from his tour. Their husbands are both in the Air Force.

Natalie knows that I have struggled with my weight since age 30, 40, 50, etc.
I have been on Weight Watcher's, Atkins, Nutrisystem, and many more. I lost the most weight on Weight Watchers, (32 lbs) however, by the same time the next year I had gained the 32 lbs back, plus an additional 30 lbs.

Natalie had asked me to give her friend Kim some tips on what to eat and how to know how many calories to eat in one day. I'm no expert, I can only speak for myself, but you have to be in the right mind...

I used to be 53kg or less. But after I entered college, my weight has increased to 60 kg. I developed this habit of stuffing myself with food whenever I'm feeling down or stressed. I also found myself eating when I'm bored. I have tried to distract myself by doing other stuff but whenever I see other people eating like those on TV, I can't help myself and straight to the refrigerator, even at midnight.

I've tried to lose weight by jogging and keeping a healthy diet. I even put up a sign in front of my desk to remind me my target is 50 kg. Even though I managed to lose some weight, the habit won't go away and eventually I end up gaining weight.

I feel like giving up now and I need advice on how to gain back the positive, confident, healthy me! (Source: Diet Blog)

Where weight loss is concerned, the maxim has traditionally be ‘slow and steady wins the day’. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard that rapid weight loss generally leads to rapid weight regain too. Like a lot of nutritional ‘truths’ though, a recent study suggest that this meme is wildly misleading. If [...] (Source: Dr John Biffa's Blog)

Why do some diets work better than others? Why can your best friend lose 10 pounds with a low-carb diet and your weight just hovers? Why can some people eat just about everything and still stay skinny?
It’s all in the genes.
Mindy Dopler Nelson, Ph.D., of Stanford University reported the results of her study at the American Heart Associate Conference. She found that a single nuceotide polymorphism caused women to loose five times as much weight on the Atkins diet compared with women who didn’t have the gene.
I entered a weight loss challenge last year and ended up winning second place! I opted to enroll in a training program to boost my results. Here are five tips my trainer gave me that were paramount to my success:

1. Immediately after waking up in the morning, do a minimum of 15-20 minutes of cardio. This jump-starts your metabolism for the day. It is not nearly as effective if you wait until you've showered and drank your morning cup of coffee.

2. If you want to boost fat loss while on the treadmill, walk for 1 minute, then jog for 1 minute, then sprint for 1 minute and repeat that three-minute cycle at least five times.

3. Exercise before you've eaten and wait 30 minutes after you exercise to eat. An exception would be a protein shake, which is beneficial during or immediately followin...

Hi i am 15 years old and i weigh 163 pounds and 5' ft 2''. My best friend tells me I'm ok the way i am and that am not "FAT". i can do most sports activities at school but i know i need to lose more weight because i once took a test on the internet and i found out that i had a medium frame size, but it seems my whole body is covered by layers of flabby fat. I hate what i see in the mirror because i know i can lose it all if i tried hard enough. i've tried diets but i can never stick to them for more than a week.

What can i do? i don't know where to start from.

P.S. at the age of 14 i used to weigh 178 pounds. i lost some weight during last year when i found out that my weight could kill me. (Source: Diet Blog)

As women approach perimenopause and menopause, weight gain becomes a challenging issue. On average, middle aged women gain about a pound a year with body composition shifting to more fat and less muscle. The weight gain is particularly frustrating since many women discover that weight loss strategies that may have worked in earlier years are no longer effective. There are serious health implications associated with the extra pounds, including increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and certain types of cancers, thus minimizing weight gain is critical for healthy aging. However, adoption of new weight loss strategies should be safe and must include enduring life style adjustments for long term success. Unfortunately many women search for a quick fix and some are turning to risky ...

I am about 15 to 20 lbs away from my goal weight. YAY!!! But for the last 6 weeks I haven't lost a pound! BOO! Haven't gained but definitely not getting closer to my goal.

I have tried changing the way I eat, how I work out, but still not getting anywhere. Is it time for lipo? Just kidding. Any helpful hints out there? (Source: Diet Blog)

Okay, to get better acquainted with my new friends, I've decided to throw caution to the wind and bear my soul. Yes, that IS a pun.

Here goes:

~My take on the "Eating Whatever You Want On the Weekends" diet consists of buying enough fast food for three meals and eating it all at once, then spending the rest of the weekend constipated and hating myself. By Monday, I'm regular and pretending the weekend never happened. I do this at least twice a month. Sidebar: McDonalds has become my "Cheers."

~I come from an obese family. My mother died when I was 15 from complications from then-experimental gastric bypass surgery. My siblings are all overweight, yet it is a topic we never discuss. I sometimes blame them for my issues, but it doesn't make me feel better.

Researchers will continue to debate whether or not high fructose corn syrup represents a unique threat to our health. But regardless of what the truth turns out to be, consumers have already made up their minds. And as far as manufacturers are concerned, the customer is always right. “Our focus is on consumer
preference, not the science,” a ConAgra representative told the New York Times. (See "The Sweet Talk Gets Harder")In response to persistent angst over high fructose corn syrup,
manufacturers--who continue to argue that fears about HFCS are
unfounded--are nonetheless starting to remove high fructose corn syrup
from processed foods and replace it with cane sugar.

So, what effect will removing HFCS from the food supply have on our nation's obesity and diabetes ...

I am a 25-year old female. I am called 'a little woman' because I am only 5"2'.
I haven't paid attention to my body since I got over 120lbs, when I was at college.

My ideal is 104-105lb. I got to that weight by eating nothing and taking pills before. But that lovely number did not last long. I gained back later when I started to eat. So I gave up that unhealthy way, and tried to do sports rather than diet. I know, I hate sports, I like the sweet food, however, I love beautiful clothes. Hence I have been controlling my food and doing some sports at least 3-4 years.

2 weeks ago, I took the body test, and I was shocked by my weight - 121.65lb. The worst thing is my body fat excess, 28. I was so frustrated with the data, because I would never have thought I had got to 121lbs.

So the next...

As a group, south Asians appear to be particularly prone to cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. And judging by the expanded waistlines in the audience, this group were no difference. “I’m going to be a fat blob on my wedding day!” The voice on the other end of the phone was desperate. “Can you help me?”
So Karen came to see me. “It’s always the same,” she told me. “I’m motivated for a few days and lose weight, then something happens. I gain everything – and more – back again! My wedding’s in three months! That should be motivation enough, but lately my weight’s been even more all over the place!”
Karen was right. Weight loss motivation is easy…at first. Rapid progress, compliments, wearing outfits you really want to, feeling more attractive, having more energy. All this positive feedback is motivating, captivating. Yet this weig...

Given the escalating rhetoric on fructose, I think it's time to revisit a couple of basic facts and try to regain some perspective. Fructose is not a toxin. It is not a man-made "chemical." The fact that is it metabolized in the liver does not mean that it is a poison. Fructose is a naturally occurring mono-saccharide (sugar) found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, eggs, dairy products and other whole foods. It has been part of the human diet since the beginning. Presumably, our bodies are well-adapted to it. In fact, there might be an evolutionary advantage to the ability to metabolize sugars through multiple pathways--including one that does not lead to an immediate rise in blood sugar. All nutrients are potentially toxicAs the National Academy of Sciences states: ...

I have my sister's wedding in a few weeks and I took a vow that I would be able to fit into my matron of honor dress without it bursting as I walked down the aisle. For 4 weeks, I substituted lunch with a salad, cut down the portions of dinner, and started doing push ups and sit ups in the morning before work. Slight changes--but it has helped.

I lost 3-4 pounds and my waist is trimmer. Now how do I deal with the fat/chocolate/cookie type craving at around 3pm at work? Of course I have tried to eat some cottage cheese or yogurt--doesn't quell the craving though.

Any advice??? Thanks! (Source: Diet Blog)

Have you heard celery and grapefruit called “negative calorie foods” and wondered if it was just a myth or actually true? Read on to find out the facts about this dieter’s phenomenon.

So the theory goes that there are foods that provide negative calories, presumably because the calories it takes to digest the foods are greater than the calories in the food. While it is true that digesting food burns calories, it is not true that any food has negative calories.
Thermic Effect of Food
The Thermic Effect of Food (TEF) is the reason for the whole “negative calories” concept. TEF represents the energy expenditure above resting metabolism that contributes to digestion and storage of food. In other words, you put energy in (burn calories) to get energy out (calories available from di...

I'm 13 and I'm about 140 lbs. I always eat a good breakfast, a snack in between breakfast and lunch, a small lunch, again a small dinner, and sometimes a light dessert. I really am not too hungry so I don't eat a lot.

I'm on a track team and we practice 5 days a week for an hour (occasionally an hour and a half). We run about three miles every day. I did cheer in the fall/ winter, and I was probably the strongest base. We only practiced 3 times a week and I ended up gaining about 15 lbs since then! I don't get it!

Can anyone advise? (Source: Diet Blog)

Many dieters have found that sugar is one of the biggest contributors to high calorie amounts in food. It seems to be everywhere, even in foods where you don't expect it. Not only does sugar add calories, it can be counterproductive to your diet because it elevates blood sugar levels.

Many dieters like to use artificial sweeteners as an alternative to sugar. There are a number available on the market, and an increasing variety of food contains them. Whether or not they are actually effective in helping with weight loss still remains up for debate. Countless studies have been performed and many sweeteners have been tested on humans and lab animals, and the evidence remains rather inconclusive.

In the past, there have been concerns about the safety of some artificial sweeteners, with some...

April is about the time New Year’s resolutions dissolve and gyms become less crowded again. It’s not that folks have lost their desire to trim pounds or increase their level of fitness. For some, it’s simply a motivation problem. They want to continue, but just can’t seem to make the time amidst competing demands. But for others, they just don’t enjoy exercise. I once watched a woman jogging whose scrunched up face displayed a combination of irritation and defeat. She wasn’t enjoying herself, but felt compelled to continue. So it’s no surprise that keeping our fitness habits going is difficult. Any activity that isn’t innately enjoyable quickly becomes drudgery and nearly impossible to maintain.
No matter what your current feelings regarding exercise, it tur...

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in Western cultures this includes heart attacks and strokes. But can you really unclog your arteries?

A book recently released by Professor Ian Hamilton-Craig, a professor of cardiology has suggested that by making some simple lifestyle changes you can unclog your arteries. I will explain just a few ways you can help to reduce your risk of heart disease.

So why do our arteries clog up?

A collection of cholesterol in our artery wall as well as the pressure of blood flow causes damage to the blood vessels can both cause our arteries to clog. The rate at which are arteries clog can be affected by our lifestyle.

So what can we do about it?

The best thing to do is to start acting early, don't wait until you have a heart attack, start making ch...

Not sure what else to call it. I need at least one 3-pack of cupcakes, chocolate chip cheesecake muffin, glazed bear claw, or cinnamon bun every single day. AND I mean NEED!

Ok so I'm considering the Dukan diet. I've read up quite a bit on it, and think this would be great for me. I'm 18, I weigh 10 stone 2 and have a very small build.. Only a few years ago I was just 7 stone! My target weight would be around 8 and a half stone.

I need to lose weight for my holiday pretty fast, which is in June. I'm not very athletic, but would be committed to the exercise on this diet. I feel really fat and unhappy with my figure at the moment.

Does anyone have advice about this diet? Any recipes or comments as to how it worked for them? Anything would be really helpful. Thanks a lot :) All comments apprieciated. Xox (Source: Diet Blog)

How Long Until I Reach My Weight Goals? [Forum]

I began my weight loss journey 2 months ago. I began weighing 354 pounds. At my last weigh in, I weighed 330 pounds. I have been eating Cheerios for breakfast, lean cuisine meals for lunch and dinner, and drinking a lot of water. I have also added a fiber drink mix to my regimen twice daily and various fruits at lunch and for a snack, if I feel the need after dinner.

I have averaged around 800 to 1000 calories a day, Monday through Friday. I eat what I want on Saturday and Sunday within reason. I never eat after 7pm.

Although I am off to a good start, I want to know how long will it take me to reach my goal of 150 pounds? Can anybody answer this for me? (Source: Diet Blog)

To anyone and everyone, hello there...

My name Lilly age 18. I guess you could say I'm another teenager trying to lose wieght, I won't deny that, after-all that is the reason i decided to join.

Fact is I need to finish what i started. I have been a constant struggler with weight. I want to make it clear I am not obese. I was however on the verge of becoming overweight. With a height of 1.80m (and always being the tallest when i was younger) i stuck out: i was the "big girl". Unfortunately it wasn't my height which made me big :(

Like many teenagres I have never felt entirely happy with my body and last summer 2009 i reached the peak of my weight 74 kg. I pulled myself toghether and i managed to lose 10 kg. I feel better, i look better and it's a motivation booster. But that was all las...

Hi,

Having dealt with weight issues all my life l have recently discovered why l have had these issues all of my life! I had a mother who constantly told me l was fat, so l followed that story until l realised that story belonged to my mother and not me.

So then what l had to stop doing was telling my self l was fat which l did everytime l looked in the mirror.I came to the conclusion l had to change my story and my focus when looking in the mirror. In other words l had to say "l love you".

Stop focussing on your obesity and turn your focus onto the other wonderful aspects of yourself. In doing this we remove the energy of our negative thoughts & patterns. Start by looking at the mirror and see yourself happy and your ideal size or goal weight.

Can I Maintain Good Health on a Liquid Diet? [Forum]

Hello! Today is the first day of my liquid diet.
I am 5'1", 16 years old, and 138 lbs. As you can tell, I'd say I'm at least a good 15 pounds overweight.
I plan on doing a liquid diet for one month. This includes milk / chocolate milk, fruit smoothies, fruit juices, tea, and protein drinks?
I'm not actually sure as to what I should drink. So far for breakfast I've had some diluted orange juice (with water).

Any tips as to what I can drink on a daily basis on a liquid diet to maintain nutrition and health? How much weight do you reckon I'll lose in one month?

Thanks ! (Source: Diet Blog)

As a dietitian, I am well aware of where people get their health information. By and large, people search the Internet, read blogs (like this one), watch the news, and read books and magazines. There is no shortage of information available and books especially seem to carry a layer of credibility. That’s why I think it is crucial that when I find a book I love, I need to shout it from the rooftops! The Biggest Loser Simple Swaps, by the show’s dietitian and chef Cheryl Forberg, is one such book. In this post, I’ll share why you should run (not walk) to pick up your copy today.

Hello! My name is Maris and I am new to the forums here. I'm 26, 5'6 and weigh 166 pounds. My goal weight is 130 and I am starting South Beach Diet today.

I think I'll be fine skipping carbs at meals but have the tendency to be a snacker so I wanted to ask some questions here that I am hoping someone can answer!

What kind of snacks do you eat? In the past when I've successfully dieted I've relied on fruit to snack on.

Specifically, what are the best SBD-friendly snacks to eat before a morning workout? Usually I have a banana or half of a granola bar (like a Luna Bar, SoyJoy, etc). I don't like to eat anything egg-based and I just can't see wanting veggies at 6 in the morning!

Thanks for any advice you have on the SBD. I'm nervous about starting out but look forward to seeing results...

As I write this, some 54 million Americans are living with pre-diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and they may not even know it. November is National Diabetes Awareness Month. As the daughter of a type 2 diabetic, I know first-hand what it is like living with the disease. Between medications, finger sticks, foot checks, vision tests, and the daily grind of nutrition and exercise, it can be a lot for people to manage, especially after years of unhealthy habits.
So, wouldn’t it be great if you knew what you could do to control your diabetes, or better yet prevent diabetes, in the first place? Well, you’ve come to the right place. This blog post will describe the top three steps you can take to prevent or reverse type 2 diabetes.

1. Eat healthy

I keep talking to young women who idolize all of these celeberties and want to look just like them, but they are only harming themselves by the restrictions they are putting on themselves and it is consuming their life.

How else can you explain to girls from the ages of 13-17 that these people are in entertainment, that this is their job? (Source: Diet Blog)

I am 20, almost 21, and I lost a lot of weight when i was sick for 4 months. I went from 112-115 down to 100 pounds. I recently have been wanting to gain muscle mass since i want to be a cop, but i get a lot of compliments on being so tiny. I do not want to be called fat again and I like being small.

I feel really anxious and fear my bulimia will come back if I gain weight. Please I need any advice or encouragemnet so I just like myself at my weight and not go back to disordered eating. (Source: Diet Blog)

Some time ago one of my blogs focused on the thoughts of Dr Andrew Wadge - Chief Scientist at the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in the UK. The blog specifically focused on his broadside at ‘detox’ regimes. I can understand that someone may be a bit sceptical of such regimes. However, if Dr Wadge [...] (Source: Dr John Biffa's Blog)

Hello everyone,
I am 18, weigh 165 at 5'6'', and looking to lose 20 pounds. Only last year I weighed a healthy 135 and was very active in sports. However, recently I have been diagnosed with a medical condition and am restricted from running or other "high impact activities".

I have always eaten a healthy diet that consists of lots of fruits and vegetables, lean meat, and whole grains. For about a month, I have been walking about 6 days a week for 30 minutes at 4 mph. I don't understand what is impeding my weight loss. I was wondering if anyone could suggest "low impact activities" that will tone my body and help me lose weight, as it seems that my current regiment is not working.

Also, my medical condition might be slowing down my metabolism; so, is there any foods that naturally ...

Over in the twentysomething blogosphere, a bunch of gals have gotten together to launch In It To Gym It, which is a group blog devoted to all things fitness, being healthy and losing weight! Which is basically my sole focus of the moment (in addition the ever-present diabetes).
I asked LiLu if I could join, and she said yes! My first blog post, called Relationship Status: It’s complicated, went up just a little while ago, in which I gave a short-but-thorough overview of eating with diabetes. It’s nothing new to you ‘betics, but for those of you who are visiting for the first time or are a friend or family member, you might be interested.

I just got back from England and France and haven't worked out for nearly 3 weeks.
When I weighed myself yesterday, I tipped the scale at 165lbs. That is the highest I've ever been. Before I went on vacation I was 157lbs. I can't believe that I've gained almost 10 pounds.

I want to be 135lbs by June 25th, 30lbs lighter. Ten pounds a month... I think I can do it.

I'm working out everyday and I'm working with a trainer twice a week for half an hour. Hopefully I can stay on track with my dieting.

I'm vegetarian, so I feel like I am less satisfied when I eat meals. I love eating bread and even though I try to find whole wheat choices, white bread is just so good. I also love cookies and chips. I have to stay away from those.

I also find that even though I eat healthy, I often over eat. I...

I am full believer in honesty is the best policy. I don't think lying or avoidance can solve problems. You should just tell the truth. Sometimes you need to be polite about it but honesty is usually the best thing in the long run.But (and you knew there was a but coming) sometimes I do omit some things. If you want to know how old I am, I'm 29, the same as I was last year. If you want to know what I weigh, that's none of your damn business. If you want to know how much weight I want to lose, its 25 lbs. If you want to know my goal weight, its what ever it takes to get me back in the clothes in my closet. If you want to know what I had for dinner last night, its officially listed in my sparkpeople log as 'yummy but diet busting meal out' for lots of calories and fat grams. We went out for t...

Okay, here goes nothing....

Most of my life I was just your typical sized girl. I was very average, not heavy by any means, but never extremely thin. When I was fifteen I started dating a guy seriously who I will call "Joe". We were madly "in love" and continued dating for three years. I turned 18, moved out and we started having some issues, we broke up and I was devastated! I literally had no appetite for weeks!!

So I lost about 15 pounds without even thinking, people noticed and started complimenting me on my weight loss. I also started getting a ton of attention from new guys. I continued to have no appetite and ate very little. I did anything to keep my mind of Joe and that involved not sitting down for a meal. I was soon very thin, but people continued to ask how I lost the weigh...
