Introducing The Therapist Within

I’m pleased to introduce The Therapist Within, a blog about psychotherapy by Gabrielle Gawne-Kelnar. Gabrielle is a psychotherapist who comes to us from Sydney, Australia, and I’m hoping her perspective from a different country and culture on psychotherapy will bring us new insights into the therapy process and the different ways it is practiced. But I’ll let Gabrielle speak for herself:
A central part of my work as a therapist is a belief that everyone has their own answers, and their own unique solutions to the challenges in their lives, hidden somewhere inside them — it’s just that sometimes these answers can be hard to see.
So, together, we’re embarking on a kind of quest here. A quest for questions. For curious keys that might help unlock some of the answer...

Blogging for Mental Health and Psychology 2010

The [American Psychological Association's] Your Mind, Your Body “Mental Health Month” Blog Party represents the aim of APA’s bloggers to bring mental health writing to the web.

We love that the American Psychological Association (APA) has decided to designate today as some sort of “blog party” to increase mental health awareness, but their press release and related marketing materials on this “blog party” make it pretty clear they don’t have a clue. I’ve never seen bloggers “organized” through a press release before.
First of all, it kind of sounds like the APA doesn’t believe there’s any mental health writing on the web. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth… Mental health writing has been on...

It's a big adventure planning a trip. Done this many times myself, still it's just big surprise what the destination of my trip will be. Like many things it seems the most important thing to find out is WHAT the goal is and what I do want to invest in order to reach my aim. There is nothing to be afraid of I guess. Perhaps it's just the freedom of choice I have to choose an destination which makes me feel strange.About the Where to stay Choice the Big city offers: many many people, noisy, but lots of attractions, restaurants and public transport. Just to be in the middle of the crowd and watch the people passing by might be very relaxing. Being solo on a beach can be very boring when in the middle of families and couples. The singles travel industry might just want to make money and is a f...

Technology has taken on a whole new meaning to me today. While I have always enjoyed the conveniences of modern day communication, I have never seen the power it has on the world until now.
With Mika’s passing, its been an odd mix of emotions, sure, but its also been really strange. Facebook has really changed the way the world works.
How did I find out about Mika’s passing? Well? My friend Tra texted me on my blackberry at which point I called her immediately and we cried about it. Then? I went onto Facebook where I had been sent an invite to the memorial service by an old friend - along with a very large group of high school friends - and I sent her a message as well. We then tag teamed each other’s Facebook inboxes for a bit - never forgetting that this w...

The Muse: A Woman of Strength, Passion, and Inspiration

This is one of my favorite photos of Chin-Chin Gutierrez online. Being a model, actress on stage, TV, and in the movies, she’s got tons more but I find this one that very much represents how I see her. I believe she’s one of those Filipinas that we could all aspire to.
Of course, at first, I only saw her as a beautiful woman, an actress, and a model. She’s started her career when she played Maria Clara in the 1991 Noli me Tangere. And ever since, she had played different roles, not all being beautiful or glamorous, but this gave her character and credibility as a professional actress.
And yet, I think, in this world, she is a real Muse, having such a passion for the arts. Not only an actress, but she’s a painter (first collection was unveiled in May 200...
