Competitive Enterprise Institute’s Lee Doren made his own video critique in response to Ms. Leonard’s offering, and points out quite clearly that Ms. Leonard doesn’t really deal with any actual constitutional problems in her position—essentially ignoring the decision and its rationale—and instead spends most of her time corporation bashing.
Lee was kind enough to cite, inter alia, a blogpost I wrote last year about what “corporate personhood” does and does not mean. If Ms. Leonard was going to ignore the decision, it may have at least served her wel...

The Story of Cosmetics, released on July 21st, 2010, examines the pervasive use of toxic chemicals in our everyday personal care products, from lipstick to baby shampoo. Produced with Free Range Studios and hosted by Annie Leonard, the seven-minute film by The Story of Stuff Project reveals the implications for consumer and worker health and the environment, and outlines ways we can move the industry away from hazardous chemicals and towards safer alternatives. The film concludes with a call for viewers to support legislation aimed at ensuring the safety of cosmetics and personal care products.

I don’t know why but I feel a “ruff, ruff” coming on or should I say “Speak!” Okay, I think I will. I hate it when my pets are ill. It’s really hard to take. Most of us love our dogs and cats like we love our children and find they often behave better. They rarely talk back. They seldom stay out too late. They almost never get involved in drugs, wild parties, and rarely fall into bad company unless you’re counting that female in heat that lives up the block. I do have to officially state, however with full disclosure, that every small dog we’ve had, compared to our large dogs, has peed on the floor far more than the kids ever did; but I digress. If you don’t love your pets this much, well, you can stop reading right now.

Last week I was shopping for an extension cord and another timer for holiday decorating, roaming around the store in a fatigued state, wondering if there was something else I needed. I suddenly and I hope surreptitiously realized I was talking to myself. His words resonated for me. For the past several years, I have immersed myself in the life of someone I never knew, someone whose daily routine couldn’t have been more different than mine. She was my aunt, and she was a family secret.
