Sugar, Milk and Carbohydrates: Your enemy in the battle against acne?

Are you suffering from acne? You certainly are not alone. Millions of people suffer from acne and those people have spent billions of dollars fueling the anti-acne industry seeking a cure for their problematic skin. Unfortunately, acne products, especially prescription antibiotics and creams often come with awful side effects (Accutane has been found to cause birth defects). Even more so disenchanting is that the treatments don’t always work and if they do, it’s temporary. Those afflicted with acne vary in extremes from those that have just a pesky zit to having debilitating acne. Unfortunately with a condition that afflicts so many and is so prevalent, a definitive causality of acne has not yet been established in medical literature.(1) What we do know is that there ar...

Trying to lose weight? Don't skimp on sleep!

When you're trying to trim down, the goal is to lose the fat but hang on to your lean muscle tissue. But if you're getting less than six hours of sleep a night while you're dieting, you may be encouraging your body to do just the opposite.According to a recent study, dieters who got less than 6 hours of sleep lost 55% less fat and 60% more muscle than dieters who were logging eight plus hours. This is just the latest in a growing pile of evidence showing that skimping on sleep promotes weight gain--and thwarts weight loss efforts. One plausible explanation is that chronic sleep debt raises cortisol levels, which in turn promotes fat storage--and speeds aging.
Is it possible that the closer you are to the ground, the more likely you are to be sick?
A recent article in the Associated Press noted a study that found that short people had a 50 percent higher chance of getting heart disease, than taller people.
It is also important to note that other issues, like smoking and weight also played important roles in these heart disease risks.
Read the full article here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100609/ap_on_he_me/eu_med_short_people_heart_problems
Well, there could be several reasons for this. Besides being hereditary, being short could also be because there is a growth hormone deficiency or malnutrition, celiac spru or parasites. And malnutrition in our society, or at least in the subjects they were looking at in the study, was not really a factor.

The Right Brain brews this response:
Tea is a hot ingredient these days. Green tea (and black tea too) comes from the plant called Camellia sinensis which is rich in ingredients known as polyphenols that have antioxidant properties. These are ingredients that scavenge “free radicals,” the toxic by-product of natural biological processes that can damage cells and lead to cancer. For more background on the healthful aspects of tea we refer you to this great article from WebMD.

Vitamin D Is Crucial and Moderation is the Key
Over the course of the last few decades the sun has basically become our enemy. It is the cause of skin cancer, wrinkles, problem after problem after problem. But is the sun really to blame for any of this. The sun’s always been there, but it’s really only caused a problem in the last few years. Why is it that it is so dangerous?
Truthfully, the sun is crucial to our survival. We need it to help our foods to grow, to give us light and to make us feel alive. The effects of vitamin D, produced in our body with sunlight help, are never disputed and the amount of vitamin D we can get naturally is always better than taking it in supplement form. But, as we humans always do, we take a good thing and take it too far.

If stress lowers testosterone, how come people in very high stress work places seem to have more of it?
Boosting your testosterone level may be good for sexual performance and this seems to be a well known theory. So, men look to keep their testosterone up, hoping that it will keep their sexual prowess at peak.

A study in London done in the last few years found that men who worked at the London stock exchange had a higher level of testosterone based on the amount of money they made. More money = more testosterone. The suggested explanation of this is that testosterone begets aggressiveness, resulting in more risky decisions. Another possible explanation is that thinking about money and sex ignites the same areas of the brain. Therefore there is the possibility that testosterone stimulates...

It’s become almost commonplace to say that we should be medicated.
“You’re crazy.”
“I’m Crazy.”
“We’re all nuts”
These statements are more severe than we think. We assume that there is something wrong with us and we look immediately to medication to fix it. Our doctors prescribe something to calm us down, lift us up, help us become normal again.

But what they don’t truly do, is look into the cause of our problems. Even a diagnosis of depression or anxiety can have an underlying physical cause that no one even gets to the bottom of.
You see, not everyone who is crazy, is really crazy.
Two reasons can be hormonal imbalance, or what we eat.
Hormonal imbalance, such as that which occurs during menopause, can cause us to feel so many emotions, running the gamut from happy...

The debate about our exposure to sunlight and what it does in terms on skin cancer has gone back and forth. Recently, a Boston professor of dermatology has been asked to resign because he advocates moderate exposure to sunlight.
Michael F. Holick, MD, PhD, wrote a book describing the importance of being exposed to Vitamin D from the sun. But dermatologists have been telling us for years to stay out of the sun. So, is this doctor crazy? See the full story here: http://chetday.com/skincancersun.htm

Truth is, no one is really sure the exact correlation of exposure to the sun to melanoma. Because another study noted that people who have jobs outside, and who are in the sun all day, actually have a lowered chance of getting melanoma. And that study stated that “It is having fair skin, a ...

Kyphosis, a curving of the spine, or popularly called a hunchback, is often associated in later years with osteoporosis.
Kyphosis leads to many health problems, however, besides osteoporosis. Among them, and perhaps the most serious is respiratory problems, and eventually possible heart failure. The standard treatment for osteoporisis are biophosphonates with Calcium and Vitamin D. But here is where the controversy is.

Biophosphonates, especially in the case of osteoporosis, cause the bones to have constant turnover, and inhibits the digestion of bone by osteoclasts. And vitamin D, as we know, stengthens our bones. But even though this seems to be the standard treatment, it is not really effective because we are not told to take enough of it!Not only that, but the calcium you are often to...

In recent years, the fear of too much mercury from fish has been instilled in us. Pregnant mothers and children are urged to limit their tuna consumption, and there are always new reports on which fish are safe to eat and which are not.
The Environmental Defense Fund has a very handy seafood selector on its website (http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=1521) that lists the safest and most harmful fish, sushi choices, health guides, and even printable pocket guides.

According to the EDF, the safest foods are pink shrimp from Oregon, wild Alaskan salmon, and farmed rainbow trout. The worst offenders are Chilean sea bass and various kinds of tuna.
The truth is, and this is usually the easiest method to use, is that the smaller the type of fish, the less amount of mercury it contains. Do not thi...

How To Keep Your Man: An Anti-Aging Perspective

Regaining Your Sex-Life Without Resorting To Cheating
Sexual problems in a couple’s relationship can result in so much more than breakup. It can cause family problems, money problems, career crush, especially when men resort to finding sexual fulfillment from a prostitute. Take for example, the recent case of Eliot Spitzer, whose sexual antics brought down his career, his family life, his world.
But, what causes a married man to go to see a prostitute? From the anti-aging point of view, this phenomenon can be explained as follows: after a certain age men’s sex hormone testosterone level starts declining, resulting in decrease of sex drive. Most of the men do not realize that this decline is related to aging. Instead they tend to blame their wives, thinking that their own wives are to o...

Everyone knows that Botox is expensive, so the hope is that with the release of new Relaxin, it will bring the competition out and the prices down.

Relaxin is still awaiting FDA approval and ist’s hard to predict now if the prices of Botox treatments will go down because it’s hard to know yet if Relaxin is as good. It will take time for the new drug to prove itself to us.

In the mean time I suggest looking for more natural treatments while you’re waiting to hear about the effects of Relaxin. Bioidentical Hormone Replacement may be an option. (Source: Doctor Kalitenko antiaging blog)

Statistics show that incidents of breast cancer fell in 2003 by 6.7 percent in comparison with 2002. This is most likely the result of hormone replacement therapy decrease, which consists of equine estrogens and progestins.
Is it good? Of course – less women died because of a deadly disease. Is it bad? Yes, because there is no widespread intention to stop using carcinogenic pills and switch to something else.
Companies cannot patent natural substances and hence make money from them, and in order to obtain a patent they need to modify the original molecule. That’s what they did with estrogen and progesterone. And what did we get? Equine conjugated estrogens and progestins (not progesterone). Example – Prempro.
Adrenal Fatigue and Cortisol Levels Can Be The Cause

Doesn’t it seem like your allergies get worse and worse every year? Some of us who never experienced them before suddenly find ourselves suffering.
Chronic stress may result in adrenal fatigue with low cortisol level. The result – constant allergies, because cortisol is needed to suppress inflammation. No enough cortisol and allergies flare up.
One way to deal with it is to check your cortisol levels and get them corrected if necessary. (Source: Doctor Kalitenko antiaging blog)

Many women are suffering from tender and swollen breasts right before their period. Usually, it is one of the many symptoms, that include bloating, fatigue, even moodiness in some.
A low progesterone level can be the cause of this tenderness. Replacement with progesterone, not progestine, may help. (Source: Doctor Kalitenko antiaging blog)

Nobody argues that breasts are a very important part of a woman’s body. Therefore, maintaining their proper shape and consistency is crucial. The main hormone responsible for their texture as well as volume is estrogen.

If a woman has enough estrogen, she can generate breast tissue to maintain its shape and density. However it is not always the case.
Estrogen deficiency is probably the most important cause of breast shape, volume and consistency problems. If there is no enough estrogen from the beginning, breasts are small after periods are started. If estrogen deficiency develops at menopausal age, it results in droopy breasts.
What can be done? The first thing that comes to my mind is to replace missing estrogen with hormone replacement therapy. Of course I’m talking about hormones ...

Estrogen, the main female sex hormone is responsible for duct formation and status in breast tissue while progesterone is needed for the rest, including regulating the menstrual cycle.
As hormone levels start declining with age there is no hormonal support for the breast tissue anymore. The result is droopy breasts.
So at an age when most are looking to consider breast implants and reduction, this may be the opportunity to look into bioidentical hormone replacement first. (Source: Doctor Kalitenko antiaging blog)

In today’s economic times, many people are finding that retiring at the age of 65 is almost impossible. And some of us, just don’t want to. But, in a time where kids are coming out of college, willing to do twice as much work for half the pay, baby boomers are finding themselves unable to keep up.
After the age of 25, your body begins a downward spiral, and with age your memory levels, your muscles, and your energy deteriorate.
Bioidentical hormone replacement can improve all of these symptoms, and keep you making the money that you need, and doing the job you love. You can look and feel ten years younger with easy treatments. (Source: Doctor Kalitenko antiaging blog)

Traditional Drugs Versus Anti-Aging Approaches

The recent debates on Bioidentical versus traditional HRT treatments did not reveal how you benefit from anti aging medicine.
Should you take bioidentical hormones, traditional drugs, or nothing?
Most of the debates did not give you the answer despite that proponents of both sides presented their arguments. Because bioidentical hormones are not the main issue. The real problem of traditional medicine is that it treats symptoms instead of eradicating the cause.
Here’s an example. A patient came to me who has had abdominal pain for years due to colitis, inflammation of the colon. We treated her with a simple change in her diet and after only a few days (!) her pain was gone without the medication. The reason for her colitis was only that s...

The Importance of Looks in the World of Work
Sure, consumers need to cut down on spending. Every news station has special segments on where we can cut spending, where we can crunch numbers again, and how to save. But right now, consumers are still spending on beauty treatments like Botox, Restylane, and Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy.
Are we really so vain as a society that we would take the food from our family’s table just to look good. The answer is yes, and with good reason.
Right now, with layoffs and cuts in business spending, companies are looking to get the most out of the employees they have. They want young people, who can get paid less and have the energy to do more. It’s terrible to think your 30 years of experience as a bookkeeper may hang in the balance of the ...

We consider s.e.x to be an pleasureful activity ultimately for reproduction, but your activities between the sheets or elsewhere for that matter may also be life saving. Recent studies have shown that men who have s.e.x 3 or more times a week have less incidence of heart attacks then those who do not. Another study discovered that having s.e.x twice weekly reduces men’s chances of getting prostate cancer. Testosterone increase during sexual activity has been been found to be the reason for these beneficial effects. Of course the benefits of sex are not exclusive to men alone. Studies have shown that in women s.e.x also increases estrogen level which improves vaginal moisture, energy level, mood etc.
So s.e.x is not only enjoyable but it’s good for your health. It’...

What does this mean for you? For starters, we should not ignore our concerns about preventing heart disease, but we should pay at least as much attention to our cancer protection as we do for our cholesterol, blood pressure etc.
So what can you do?

We all crave unconditional love, and while we may be in a satisfying relationship, we still would do everything possible to look attractive to our significant other. Why bother? Because you want to be in control. It feels good to have your significant other look at you with desire. It feels great to feel sexy.. However, feeling sexy may not come that easy especially if you need to lose some pounds. Have you ever been engaged in an intimate moment but have been unable to just let go because you’re being overly critical of yourself? I think we have all been there and the result is the same: you don’t enjoy yourself as much.

According to Globe Magazine, Michelle Obama is the reason for TV Queen Oprah’s weight gain. At least that is what Oprah thinks.
And it’s understandable considering since the feud between them started, Oprah’s gained about 40 pounds and now weighs around 200 pounds. It’s obvious to anyone Michelle Obama is not the cause of the Daytime Diva’s weight gain. Chances are, Oprah’s stress levels are through the roof, but how would that make someone gain weight?

Bio identical hormone replacement therapy for women: to cycle or not to cycle?

Do you want to have your periods back? Yes? No? Most of the women say no. And it is understandable: who wants to have this trouble again. If you decide to get bioidentical hormone replacement, you may have it without periods. And everybody loves it: youth is back but no periods, no pregnancy. Another choice is to go back to cycling with periods again. There is no consensus which is better. And I usually recommended my patients BHRT without cycling. Until recently.

No doubt, that some drugs are linked with weight gain. Among them: almost all diabetic medications except Glucophage, Prozac, Elavil etc. But are they really the cause of weight gain? Or there is some other cause? Are the drugs are adding calories to your diet, or our metabolism is down, leading to weight gain, even if you eat only a handful of food?

Now many doctors agree that impotence is dangerous. Even in the article “Five symptoms men should not ignore,” published on the CNN site, unenthusiastic penis is mentioned as a symptom #3. Explanation: penis has the same vessels as the heart, brain, kidneys etc. Therefore if you have erectile dysfunction, then you may have bad penile vessels as well as coronary vessels and renal vessels, etc. So you need to check your cholesterol, heart, blood pressure etc. Sounds logical? Yes. But this is only the part of the problem. What they do not want you to know is

According to common sense to loose weight you need to consume less calories. Therefore it was proposed to cut down on fat because it contains a lot of calories. Therefore low fat foods were created. However the results of consuming low fat food were disappointing. Therefore they came up with another idea: low carb diet. The result? Which approach is better?
The study from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, done on 322 volunteers, show that people who eat low carbs or Mediterranean diet loose more weight and get more benefits for their heats. The explanations of this fact may be as follows:
