Sick of all the depressing photos of the effects of climate change? Then you’ll be glad to watch this adorable video courtesy of the Monterey Bay Aquarium (and John Cleese). Personally, we don’t think a dose of cutesiness will kick most people into high gear as far as taking better care of the planet – but even we can’t resist that little tortoise.via The Huffington PostPost from: BlissTreeJohn Cleese Makes Climate Change Funny, Tortoise Makes It Cute (Source: Breastfeeding 1-2-3)

Many of us try to be as eco-friendly as our budgets allow. Green thinking probably has spread to a variety of areas in your life – shopping, eating, cleaning habits. But what about Fido or Mittens? Check out these tips on how to make your pet’s life more eco-friendly.
1. Check out what type of cat litter you buy; if it’s lumping clay, it could expose you to carcinogenic silica dust. Switch to one made from pine, wheat, or newspaper, like Swheat Scoop.
2. Make sure the flea or tick treatments you use aren’t toxic. They could contain pesticides that leave residue on your pet’s fur, and cause them to have brain or nervous system damage. Check out some natural treatments for animals here.
3. Reconsider what your pet eats. Some pet foods contain chemi...

I’m all out of order. I’m back home in Kansas City, but in my Long Strange Trip saga, I haven’t even gotten myself into Los Angeles yet. However, I just found out that a friend who loves to photograph flowers is back online.
This weekend I’ll be working on a couple of writing projects, so it may be a few more days before I finish up my travel blogging. But I can post these photos now. More to come.

The summer swimming season in New Jersey is pretty much confined to a few months; while the water is warm now, there’s no lifeguards in the fall. To be amid a lot, a lot of water, nothing like an aquarium; Charlie’s enjoyed a couple of visit to the New Jersey State Aquarium and notices more and more with each visit. Fish Wish is program run by the Georgia Aquarium. Yesterday’s 11alive notes the calming influence of the aquarium on autistic children who’ve visited through the program (though a reference to autistic kids as “being in a world all to themselves” has shades of outdated notions of them being locked in their own world). But still, always good to be surrounded by all that water, even behind glass.

Buddy Boy's "Memory Extractor"I haven't been posting a whole lot lately, especially about personal stuff. Things got really hard for awhile, and it became a combination of not being able/wanting to lay out my personal problems to the whole world (I am basically the silent, keep it in, work it out yourself kind of guy) as well as using all of my spare energy to do my best to keep our family from disintegrating. School's been out for two whole weeks here. And we're finally getting back to some semblance of normalcy. The school year started out really well for Buddy Boy. The majority of his time was spent included in a regular classroom. Buddy Boy had the best darn teacher in the whole school for his regular class, Mrs. J.
Traveling Caregiver - Slide Show of World Famous Monterey Aquarium

My caregiver career began a new chapter recently with the addition of travel up the west coast. The Monterey Aquarium was the first sightseeing stop, and I took a slide show of photos you can see below. The salt water tanks, some several stories tall and as large as buildings, let us stand at the level of the bottom and look upward through the water and kelp forest as the fish floated by above us. Sharks, several octopi (plural for octupus), and incredible jellyfish trailing their colorful tentacles were part of the show. Enjoy the slideshow. Leonard Sonnenschein, president of the World Aquarium in St. Louis, holds We, a two-headed albino rat snake. The snake came to the aquarium's attention when its previous owner distributed a circular offering it for sale days after its birth. The aquarium paid $15,000, knowing full well that most two-headed snakes don't live more than a few months.
