During the summer of 2007, we published the post below in response to the sex scandal du jour involving U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-LA). We republished it in the wake of former New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s (D) “indiscretions.” Former U.S. Senator and Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee John Edwards’ confession had us dusting off this post yet again. We published it again when Senator Jon Ensign (R-NV)–who in 1998 urged President Clinton to resign following the Monica Lewinsky scandal–was added to the list and then again in response to the Mark Sanford scandal and for Chris Lee’s Craig’s List shenanigans. We’ve decided to republish the post yet again in recognition of the recent revelations regarding Arnold Schwarzen...

Sperm can be quite surprising sometimes!
Men produce 1500 sperm every second, and depending on the environment surrounding them, they can be fast or slow. (This is quite independent of how fast or slow a guy gets to orgasm!) We have always known that nutrition is important to health, but we underestimated how important vitamins and minerals are to the speed of sperm and enhancing reproductive success.

In sperm and sex, most men start out pretty fast but peeter out quickly. Sperm ejaculated in the vagina may last a week, but outside the body survives only a few hours. Average time to ejaculation during intercourse – 2 -3 minutes! All in all, this is a sprint race to say the least!

Hasta La Vista, Baby!
Hollywood is really the land of overachievers. There are tons of stories about how actors set impossible personal goals and then make them come true. My favorite has to do with the Governator. Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
When the young “Ahhnold” was ten years old, living in a small village in Austria, he had the dream of coming to America. One of six children in a modest home, it seemed an unlikely dream, so Arnold created a plan. He was confident that if he could become a great bodybuilder and win the Mr. Universe competition, this would be his ticket to the United States.
With that goal in mind, Arnold started lifting weights seriously when he was fifteen years old and ultimately became the youngest ever Mr. Universe at the age of twenty. His success grew and h...

Last spring, the FDA began a new effort to encourage doctors to report ‘bad’ advertisements and promotional campaigns for prescription drugs and dubbed it the ‘Bad Ad‘ program. The goal is to make it easy for docs and other healthcare providers to report perceived problems to the agency, which describes the program as educational outreach.
One former FDA official lauded the move. “On balance, the FDA probably feels there’s a lot of violative behavior they simply can not monitor with limited resources,” Arnold Friede, a former FDA associate chief counsel and a former senior corporate counsel at Pfizer, told us at the time. “…if the objective is compliance and not enforcement, then this is an additional incentive for a company to closely moni...

From the ominously-titled book “New Rules” by Donald Berwick, M.D., and Troyen Brennan M.D.:
“Today, this isolated relationship [between doctor and patient] is no longer tenable or possible. . . Traditional medical ethics, based on the doctor-patient dyad, must be reformulated to fit the new mold of the delivery of health care. . . The primary function of regulation in health care…is to constrain decentralized individualized decision making.”
Unfortunately, Dr. Berwick’s straightforward formulation of the appropriate role of the individual physician in our reformed healthcare system is not isolated to thinkers of the Progressive persuasion. The notion that most clinical decisions can be usefully made by a centralized authority is attractive even to some conservatives.

From the Harvard Gazette:
The centuries-old “one-drop rule” assigning minority status to mixed-race individuals appears to live on in our modern-day perception and categorization of people like Barack Obama, Tiger Woods, and Halle Berry.
So say Harvard University psychologists, who’ve found that we still tend to see biracials not as equal members of both parent groups, but as belonging more to their minority parent group. The research appears in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
“Many commentators have argued that the election of Barack Obama, and the increasing number of mixed-race people more broadly, will lead to a fundamental change in American race relations,” says lead author Arnold K. Ho, a Ph.D. student in psychology at Harvard. “Our work challenges the ...

Well, Mr. Governor, as you well know, it is a federal crime to smoke marijuana. People get arrested and jailed for smoking marijuana. And you, Mr. Governor, could have done something about the war against cannabis because there was this ballot initiative called Prop. 19 in your state that would have made it legal for adults to smoke marijuana in private. Instead of fighting for Prop. 19, you opposed it! Apparently, you have decided to place yourself on both sides of the marijuana question—preserve penalties for use, but proclaim your opposition to penaltie...

Neurofeedback Gains Popularity and Lab Attention (New York Times)
The treatment is also gaining attention from mainstream researchers, including some former skeptics. The National Institute of Mental Health recently sponsored its first study of neurofeedback for A.D.H.D.: a randomized, controlled trial of 36 subjects.
The results are to be announced Oct. 26 at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. In an interview in the summer, the study’s director, Dr. L. Eugene Arnold, an emeritus professor of psychiatry at Ohio State, noted that there had been “quite a bit of improvement” in many of the children’s behavior, as reported by parents and teachers.

By Michael F. CannonIn the latest Cato Policy Report, Cato adjunct scholar Arnold Kling‘s essay on the (mis)rule of experts explains why ObamaCare will fail:
Despite the many pages contained in the health care legislation that Congress enacted, the health care system that will result is for the most part to be determined. The design and implementation of health care reform was delegated to unelected bureaucrats, as was done in Massachusetts.
In Massachusetts, the promises of proponents have proven false, and the predictions of skeptics have been borne out. Costs have not been contained; they have shot up. Emergency room visits have not been curtailed; they have increased. The mandate to purchase health insurance has not removed the problem of adverse selection and moral hazard; inst...

By Tad DeHavenAn essay from economist Arnold Kling in the latest Cato Policy Report discusses what Kling calls the “knowledge-discrepancy problem.” This occurs when knowledge is dispersed but power is concentrated, and it is particularly acute in government.
In short, it’s impossible for government “experts” to aggregate the vast amount of knowledge that is dispersed throughout the economy in order to optimally direct economic activity. And as Kling notes, concentrating power over the economy in the hands of experts leads to ever more undesirable government interventions:
As we have seen, the expectations placed on government experts tend to be unrealistically high. This selects for experts with unusual hubris. The authority of the state gives government experts a dangerous level...

In recent months, at least five big drugmakers have received letters as the federal government seeks to uncover any violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which forbids US companies from bribing foreign government officials.
Among those that have been contacted in recent months concerning their activities are AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Baxter, Eli Lilly and Merck (see page 26 here). An AstraZeneca spokesman says the drugmaker is cooperating. What better way to celebrate the end of National Iced Tea Month than with a glimpse into an awesome new tea product? Honest Tea Organic: half tea and half lemonade is the perfect refreshing drink with a conscience.

At first I was a little concerned when I decided to try the product since many pre-bottled teas can be sickeningly sweet. Not so with Honest Tea half and half! It was not overly sweet and the lemonade complemented and enhanced the tea rather than covering it. Besides the taste, I loved that the company was environmentally aware as well as globally aware of how they could help people and the planet as a whole. The product is USDA certified organic AND fair trade! The bottle is made from #1 plastic which is the most recyclable of the pla...

CalabriaWhen it comes to banking policy, there are few people I respect more than Jonathan Macey and Arnold Kling; so when these two, independently, argue that we should be breaking up the largest banks, it is idea that merits consideration. Yet I still have my doubts.
First, lets start with what we are fairly certain of. There is a large empirical literature that suggest most US mega-banks are beyond their efficient size. There is a good survey of the literature by former Fed Economist Allen Berger . So, at a minimum, the academic literature suggests the largest banks are beyond a size that is justified by the social benefits.
However, there is also a small literature that suggests more concentrated banking systems are more stable, and less prone to crisis. Some of t...

The Case for Auditing the Fed

By Cato EditorsRecently, the Federal Reserve has significantly altered the procedures and goals that it had followed for decades. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) has introduced a bill calling for an audit of the Fed.
Remarkably, there is significant opposition to such oversight, and the political prospects for undertaking such an audit are relatively bleak. In a new paper, Cato scholar Arnold Kling examines the processes and outcomes on which an audit should focus, and looks at opposition to the audit:
We should document why the Fed took each step, what the expected results were, and whether those results were achieved. …The profit or loss of the Fed’s investments would provide a very helpful indicator of whether the Fed’s actions served the economy as a whole or merely transferred ...

In a disappointing and short-sighted move, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently vetoed two breastfeeding bills. One was the bill I took the time to ask my state senators to support — SB 257 the Pavley-Employee Notification/Lactation Accommodation that would have required state entities to inform pregnant employees about the existing California law that requires workplace lactation accommodation. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Image: Zuma PressGovernor Schwarzenegger believed that there was not adequate evidence that mothers are not aware of their right to workplace lactation accommodation. However, the California WIC Association sponsored the bill in the first place because it found that state agencies do not always advise pregnant women of their rights and ...

From a patient’s point of view, the ideal health insurance policy would offer unlimited access to medical services at no charge. Unfortunately, it is not feasible to offer this to everyone.
The key to sustainable health care reform is restraining the use of services that have high costs and low benefits, says Cato adjunct scholar Arnold Kling. In the video below, Kling examines the challenges facing health reformers and the feasibility of alternative proposals. Even RINO California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will NOT take on Prop 13 and the California Constitution.
Democratic leaders sent Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger an $18 billion deficit-cutting package on Tuesday, a plan he quickly vetoed as anti-tax groups filed a lawsuit to stop it.
The activity came amid the Legislature’s third special session since the November election to deal with California’s worsening budget deficit, projected at $42 billion over the next 18 months.
With Schwarzenegger’s veto, time is running out for lawmakers to find a midyear fix. The state controller has warned ...

The new Terminator has been “professionally diagnosed with mild autism”? From Sci Fi Wire:
Personality-wise, Cameron still has a ways to go, recently having been professionally diagnosed with mild autism. But like all Terminators to come before her, she’s a sponge for information. She’s been reading the Bible, watching TV and observing the kids around her to get a grasp on all the latest hipster lingo. It doesn’t always come out quite as it should, but she’s learning from her mistakes.
Is there the suggestion here that something being autistic leaves one a bit lacking in the personality department?
h/t to Jen!

I have a piece in today's San Francisco Chronicle lambasting California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for "Kowtowing to Big Biotech"(the paper's headline that isn't in the online version.) I have had a burr in my behind about my governor ever since he endorsed Proposition 71 two weeks before the 2004 election. At that time, he was popular and believed to be a strict fiscal conservative. (What a joke that turned out to be!) Prior to the endorsement, the measure showed 71 leading but polling under 50%, meaning it was beatable. After the endorsement, the deal was done and the initiative passed easily--adding $6 billion to California's backbreaking bond obligations at a time when CA was (we still are) arterially bleeding red ink.Bad Arnold. But that isn't all he has done wrong in this regard. Fro...

Arnold Schwarzenegger, who alas is my governor, was elected to produce fiscal responsibility in California. Well, that didn't work out: This year alone, we are about $17 billion in the hole and counting. That aside, Schwarzenneger first violated his fiscal responsibility raison d' etre for running for governor by supporting California's going $6 billion deeper into debt--at a time when our streets weren't being repaired and our hospitals were cracking under fiscal burdens--to pay the private sector and their university business partners to conduct human cloning and ESCR. This was back when he was really popular. Before his support, Proposition 71 was under 50% in the polls. Afterwards, it soared to victory. This year, when the CIRM paid $270 million this year to buy the most expensive buildi...

One of those commercials, which by the way, have gotten some positive reviews for their humor and effectiveness in the advertising industry, can be found here:Don't get me wrong, Ocean Spray Light DOES have 2/3 fewer calories and sugar than Ocean Spray's regular juice drinks BUT why is one of the nation's best-known and most successful agricultural cooperatives (consisting of growers of cra...

Summaries of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s revised state budget proposal for the 2008-09 fiscal year lay on a table in Sacramento, California, May 14, 2008. Schwarzenegger unveiled on Wednesday a revised $144.35 billion budget plan for the state’s next fiscal year that proposes using state lottery revenues to back bonds whose proceeds would help close a $17.2 billion shortfall and build a rainy-day reserve.
Arnold is desperate to balance a budget he has mismanaged.
Will gay marriage help boost California’s economy? Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger hopes so.
In the wake of the state Supreme Court’s legalization of gay marriage, the Republican governor said Tuesday in San Francisco he hopes gay couples come to California for wedded bliss.

After the FDA rejected the drug, which was to have revived Merck’s cholesterol franchise, its shares plunged. The pill contains an extended-release form of niacin, which is a vitamin, and a chemical called laropiprant to stop flushing, a common reaction to niacin. But the drugmaker offered no insights into the rejection, leaving Wall Street to speculate - and the speculation isn’t optimistic.
In an investor note this morning, Catherine Arnold of Credit Suisse writes that the “laropiprant component of Cordaptive presumably had cardiovascular signals. Even though this may have been in very small numbers, the FDA was unable to get past the notion that Merck couldn’t explain why it happened in some patients and not in others, while the potential target population is large.&...

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, center, endorses Republican presidential hopeful Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., right, as former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani looks on at left, after a tour of Solar Integrated Technologies in Los Angeles, Calif., Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008.
Can John McCain place Blue State California in play this November? Perhaps.
1. If McCain wins California in November, he almost certainly will become the next president of the United States.
2. Winning California is going to be very tough for McCain.
3. Candidates who oppose abortion rights do not win California.
4. Obama favors giving driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. McCain opposes it, and this could give McCain the state.
McCain seems to think so in this interview with Chris Wallace.

No, it wasn't from people on the Islet Foundation Public Message Forum, although JDRF-bashing does seem to be a popular pastime there. This time, the news was that JDRF's internal auditors had discovered hundreds of thousands of dollars missing and apparently, two employees were fired as a result of the incident. To be sure, any organization has a risk of employee dishonesty, and we should be proud that the organization was able to uncover the scheme on its own and was able to take corrective action. But for me, the real news wasn't about the government investigation into that apparent fraud, rather it was that JDRF's CEO since January 2006, Arnold W. Donald, 53 announced earlier this month t...

Support for California’s Proposition 93 is falling precipitously according to the latest polls. The measure which would change the California term limits law will be voted upon February 5.
Flap said many months ago that he was not worried about this measure and it would not pass.
It won’t.
The kiss of death: California GOP Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s FLIP-FLOP endorsement.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger uses a chart to help explain his state budget plan during a news conference in Sacramento, Calif., on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2007.
The California State Budget for this next year is running $14 billion in the red and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed a budget deficit reduction plan. This plan involves borrowing money, deferring debt payments and the counting future tax revenue, according to a report released today by the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst’s Office.
The Governator’s plan is a sham. He defers hard budget choices as he has done every year while in office. Remember when California voters were asked to approve borrowing to bail out Democrat Governor Gray Davis’s budget?

With the massive California budget problem and Arnold’s recent dust-up with the California GOP, post-partisanship et. al. Flap doesn’t know if it will help McCain that much.

The California State Parks proposed for closure by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
How many different times does Flap have to spell it out that Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a disastrous Governor for California - on the order of Gray Davis.
Now, Arnold who has failed to balance the budget in every fiscal year he has been California governor has proposed new draconian cuts.
California State Senator Tom McClintock has been screaming at the Governator but Arnold has not listened.
So, Arnold has two choices:
1. Become unpopular and make the cuts
2. Become unpopular and raise taxes
The day of reckoning which was at hand when Arnold was first elected (when Democrat Governor Gray Davis was recalled) and could have been prevented by prudent fiscal management is here.

California’s Assembly on December 17, 2007 approved Schwarzenegger’s plan for universal health insurance, as overhauling health care grows as a prominent issue in the 2008 presidential election.
Hell, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has been unable to balance ANY of his budgets while in office. Tax and spend are the easy outs for the actor turned politico.

Arnold’s post-partisan result - A $14 Billion deficit and a fiscal emergency.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Friday he will declare a “fiscal emergency” in January to give him and the Legislature more power to deal with the state’s growing deficit.
Schwarzenegger made the announcement Friday after meeting with lawmakers and interest groups this week to tell them California’s budget deficit is worse — far worse — than economists predicted just a few weeks ago.
The shortfall is not $10 billion, but more than $14 bi...

Is California Governor Arnod Schwarzenegger the legitimate GIRLIE MAN?
No, just a failed Governor ala Jesse Ventura.
Flap bets the California budget deficit next year will be north of $10 billion while Arnold plays with health care for illegal aliens and global warming law suits against the feds.
Update:
Arnold’s health care bill has finally made the legislature. The bill has NO authors since Schwarenegger has been unable to get a GOP legislator to sponsor the bill since it involves numerous tax increases.
Read the bill here.

First elected to bring fiscal order to California’s budget crisis, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday ordered California state government to plan for 10% budget cuts.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday ordered all state departments to draft plans for deep spending cuts after receiving word that California’s budget is plunging further into the red — largely because of the troubled housing market.
State officials have warned the governor that the likely deficit for next year has jumped from a few billion dollars to as much as $10 billion, threatening to wipe out the progress Schwarzenegger has claimed in getting the state’s accounts in order.
Here we go again.

California Legislative Democrats have offered California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger a deal over a reform health care proposal.
Democratic leaders on Monday agreed to key elements of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s health care reform plan, including mandatory insurance, according to a spokesman for Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez.
Dan Weintraub at the Sacramento Bee’s Capital Alert has some of the details here.
The Democrats will unveil their plan officially tomorrow morning.
The Governor and Democrat dominated Legislature have only a few weeks to craft a compromise proposal to go before voters in November 2008. GOP members of the California L...

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger told the truth above. So, you have to believe him when he says he is not interested in Barbara Boxer’s job, right?
Maybe he is laughing now because he ONLY leads Boxer by 1 percentage point and doesn’t want her to use him to raise campaign money.
It is early in any case.

Hillary has just put California and other Western states in play for the GOP Presidential race.
Flap sees the direct mail and the television commercials now.
Thanks Hillary.
Since California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed illegal aliens drivers license bills a number of times will he do television for the GOP Presidential nominee?
Probably, since he will likely challenge Democrat Senator Barbara Boxer in 2010.

Motorist fee increases signed by governor
Acting on the last batch of bills from what experts called a disappointing regular legislative year, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Sunday signed into law a controversial increase in motorists’ fees that is intended to raise millions to develop alternative fuel and clean-air technology.
Consumer advocates condemned the bill for putting the costs on the backs of motorists rather than oil companies.

The governor’s latest claim on painless gain was issued this week in the form of a revised scheme to bring health insurance to the estimated 6.7 million Californians who lack it. The cost of providing such coverage is estimated at $14 billion a year, and originally, Schwarzenegger proposed “shared responsibility” taxes on hospitals and doctors, a levy on employers and a fingers-crossed assumption that the federal government would pick up about a third of the tab.
The plan quickly became bogged down in a political swamp of interests. Everybody was for the plan in concept, as long as somebody else was paying for it. The hospital industry eventually signed on after being guaranteed in writing that it would get billions more ...

Dan Walters makes the most recent case although Flap mentioned it before.
The answer is YES. The Governator WILL challenge Democrat Senator Barbara Boxer.
Arnold does NOT have the patience to wait for Senator Dianne Feinstein to retire in 2012.
The Governator will paint the radically LEFT Boxer as a post-partisan obstruction to national consensus and will win going away - after a costly and dirty media campaign.
Count on it……..

Senator Clinton’s announcement that her “universal” health care plan will not cover illegal aliens puts her at odds with Governor Schwarzenegger of California on that issue, as well as some of her most prominent backers in the Hispanic community.

John Fund from the Wall Street Journal has the story with HillaryCare Flops in California.
Hillary Clinton is patting herself on the back for proposing a health-care plan that is much more politically astute than her 1993 Rube Goldberg effort. She told an audience in New York this week: “I think I have successfully thought through all of the objections and pre-empted them.”
She may want to think again. Last January, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed an eerily similar plan using the same rhetoric and even the same slogan adopted by Mrs. Clinton to describe hers: “Shared Responsibility.”
That’s no coincidence. Both ArnoldCare and HillaryCare 2.0 are the product of the same advisers. But despite all of its clever political compromises, ArnoldCare is ...

While answering questions Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger tells reporters that he would veto a gay marriage bill approved by the legislature, at a Capitol news conference in Sacramento, Calif., Monday, Sept. 17, 2007.
Here we go again.
Didn’t Californians recall Democrat Governor Gray Davis because of fiscal irresponsibility?
And didn’t Arnold promise to fix the state’s poorly managed finances?
Right on both.
If the California budget is this out of balance look for the quick end of the Governator’s short political career.
Update:
Looks like Arnold’s state planners cannot balance his health care proposal either. What a mistake Californians made with Schwarzenegger.

Billionaire Eli Broad, left, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa share a laugh during a news conference Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at University of California, Los Angeles Biomedical Sciences Research Building in Los Angeles. Broad donated 20 million dollars to UCLA for stem cell research.
From the Flash Report:
Governor Moonbeam II
California Republicans met at their convention near Palm Springs this weekend and heard two starkly different messages. Their own “post-partisan” governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, called on them to embrace the fight against global warming, support huge tax increases required by his universal health care plan and otherwise move to the center. Otherwise, he warned, the GOP would be “relegated to the margins of Calif...

Texas Gov. Rick Perry speaks at the California Republican Party convention in Indian Wells, Calif., Friday, Sept. 7, 2007.
In what is the QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND at the California Republican Party Convention, Texas Governor Rick Perry “CALLS OUT” California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger:
“It’s a sad, sad state of affairs when liberals campaign like Republicans to get elected, and Republicans govern like liberals to be loved…”
Perry received whoops and repeated standing ovations while Schwarzenegger speaking earlier received a “polite” reception.
And Arnold thinks he will have an easy time receiving the GOP nomination for United States Senate in 2010?
Stay tuned…….

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks at the California Republican Party convention in Indian Wells, Calif., Friday, Sept. 7, 2007.
Addressing Republican activists and volunteers tonight in Indian Wells. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger exhorted his party to regain the political center:
Our party has lost the middle, and we will not regain true political power in California until we get it back. I am of the Reagan view that we should not go off the cliff with flags flying. I did that in 2005.
In 1967, when Ronald Reagan spoke to the California Republican Assembly, he said:
“We cannot become a narrow sectarian party in which all must swear allegiance to prescribed commandments. Such a party can be highly disciplined, but it does not win elections. This kind of party so...

Another California initiative - “The Presidential Electors Initiative” changing the distribution of Presidential electoral College votes (winner take all to by Congressional district) was approved for circulation yesterday. Previously the Electoral Reform California Initiative qualified and is currently circulating for signatures.
The initiative is here and the complete text is here.
Two competing GOP sponsored initiatives with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger apparently opposed with lukewarm initial poll support and massive Democrat Party opposition yields this scenario:
1. Funds are raised from Presidential candidates and GOP donors to qualify the initiative(s) for the June 2008 California ballot.
2. Since support is so...

Of course, the California Restaurant Association members will support either a sales or payroll tax increase to pay for health insurance for the uninsured.
Why?
So, as employers they won’t get stuck with the bill to pay for the health care of their low wage employees.
Everyone agrees that Californians should have the best health care available. The disagreement comes as to the financial responsibility for the massive costs.
Arnold’s 2007 health care plan is dead and the Governator has stated he will veto the Democrat’s plan to increase employer’s payroll taxes mandating health care insurance. And voters will never approve a sales tax increase.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said yesterday “In principle, I don’t like to change the rules in the middle of the game” with regards to the Electoral Reform California Initiative which is now being circulated.
Although he added he wasn’t versed in details of the ballot proposal and stressed he wasn’t taking a definitive position his lack of enthusiasm may damper fundraising efforts.
Also, there is another electoral college reform initiative pending in the Attorney General’s office. And this initiative is created by governor’s former attorney Thomas Hiltachk and ex-advisor Marty Wilson.

The Wall Street Journal has a piece up today for subscribers describing the failure (FLOP) of the stalled California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s health care reform proposal.
Flap previously dismissed this misguided effort at universal socialized care with its concomitant tax increases here and here.
This proposal may not quite be dead but it is moribund. When the Governor has to travel to Fresno in the middle of the hot summer and fails to cajole and shame a recalcitrant California GOP State Senator to vote for his budget, it is doubtful that this controversial initiative will be able to obtain a 2/3 vote of the California Legislature.
In beating the drum for his plan, Mr. Schwarzenegger has often deplored what he calls the “hidden tax” of the current health-care sys...

August 1 marked the start of JDRF's "Promise to Remember Me" campaign. A major objective of the campaign this year is to convince the Federal Government to renew the Special Statutory Funding Program for Type 1 Diabetes Research, which is set to expire in 2008. President George W. Bush signed the last extension of that program (in 2000 or 2001, I can't recall), so its possible he will also approve it this year if the legislation is sent to the White House for approval. What's at stake is more than one-third (35% to be exact) of all Federal funding allocated to type 1 diabetes research which comes from that "special" program. (The remainder comes from the annually appropriated funds to the NIH to support type 1 diabetes, and a tiny, highly targeted funding program also exists within the Dep...
