Duncan had another appointment with the dentist this morning. Lady and Thomas have both started school now (more on that later- but it's going well) so it was just the two of us. The 1st time we were at that dentist it was a huge struggle to get him in the building. He stood outside crying for ages while I tried to reason with him. We made it into the waiting room where The Tweenies was playing on a tv, henceforth that room was known as "The Tweenies Room." Heading down to Cork for the weekend, staying in a decent hotel and meeting lots of fabulously interesting, opinionated, talented articulate and passionate people. I loved having some time with my beloved little sister and the banter and craic were mighty altogether. The Ladies Tea Party was delightful and the award ceremony was organised and enjoyable. The Academy Awards might be just a couple of days away but they’ve already been trumped by the Hackademy Awards. Created by the anti-smoking group Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails, the ‘Hackademy Awards’ outs movies that make smoking look glamorous with a ‘Thumbs Down’ award and movies that portray smoking as uncool with a ‘Thumbs Up’ award. This is utterly smashing. The short list is out for Saturday's Irish Blog Awards and I'm still there in the specialist category. I previously posted some thoughts on how I’d structure an EMR and HIPAA Awards competition. However, I wonder if I’m biased by the existing EMR Awards models. I’m thinking that maybe it’s unreasonable to offer an award for the entire EMR or EHR system. Instead, maybe we should just award certain features of an EMR or EHR system. The TEPR conference is going on right now in beautiful Palm Springs, CA. One of the highlights for people attending this conference is to find out which EHR, PHR or EMR wins the TEPR awards. What I Saw at the Doctors' Choice Awards Ceremony

I spent yesterday in New York City attending the 2008 Doctors' Choice Awards ceremony at the posh Palace Hotel (see my previous post about the awards: "Drug Ads from the Doctor's Perspective").The surrounding area looked like the Green Zone in Baghdad: concrete barricades, police in riot gear, black SUVs, and secret service agents all over the place. No, all this security wasn't for the protection of Doctors' Choice award winners. Nor was it was to protect the rich denizens of the upper east side/Park Avenue neighborhood from rioting middle class workers whose life savings were about to be appropriated in the bailout of Wall Street. I’m not sure if everybody’s aware that, in the recently concluded Philippine Blog Awards 2008, there are three four doctors who were recognized and given awards for their notable contributions to the Philippine blogosphere. Gordon's awards ceremony took place last night. The place was packed, and it was only when we were there that I realised how prestigious it all was. Our < sarcasm> beloved leader < /sarcasm> the First Minister and the Health Minister were in the audience. Gordon was one of only 3 people nominated in his category and I think there were 8 categories. So he was in among the elite in a crowd of about 300. He didn't get the award, not that he was much fussed. But we enjoyed the night out, more so since we're tight and it was free. The awards part wasn't too painful, only those introducing the categories gave a speech and these were succinct and informative, well apart from the woman who droned on about pain and the other who blethered about the danger of BMIs higher than 29, to an audience wher...
