Choosing a name for your baby could be a wonderful exercise for your and your significant other. Remembering loved ones who have passed or honoring those in our families is one way we choose the name. This can get very sticky knowing your mother would want to you name him after uncle Joe (whom you never even met) or your great great grandmother gladys back in the old country…. Well first of all take a deep breath, luckily you have a few months to calm the waters. Put together a list of possibilities, even the most outrageous, and put it away for a week or two and revisit it again then. When you prepare your list of things to do while you’re pregnant and for the hospital, add it to your list of things so every time you check something off it will be right there, s...

Robert Pattinson (a.k.a. vampire Edward Cullen) filming his new movie Bel Ami in Budapest, Hungary
Old Names, New Kids: It was only a matter of time before people started saddling their offspring with names from Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga: Cullen (as in Edward), Isabella (as in Bella), and Jacob. According to today’s New York Times, the Social Security Administration just published its list of most popular baby names. Isabella is #1 for girls, while Jacob holds the top spot for boys. Cullen (Edward’s surname) debuted at #485. Not bad for a rookie vampire.

We promise we’re going to let it go, but we just can’t help ourselves. Okay, so we’re a little obsessed with the egregious baby-naming practices of TV, movie, and music’s biggest stars (and not so biggest…sorry, John and Connie). We’ve done not one, not two, but three recent installments. This one will be the last. Maybe. It’s really all up to Hollywood.
1. Prima Sellecchia – Daughter of John Tesh and Connie Sellecca
2. Racer, 3. Rebel, 4. Rocket, and 5. Rogue – Kids of Robert Rodriguez (director, producer, writer)
6. Sailor Lee – Daughter of Christie Brinkley
7. Seven Sirius and 8. Puma – Children of Erykah Badu
9. Magnus Paulin – Son of Will Ferrell (Okay, his wife is Swedish)

Lately we’ve been talking about all the horrible baby names lurking around Hollywood, but things really aren’t all bad. These stars came up with some sparkling monikers for their mini constellations.

Willow and Jaden – Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s kids
Their daughter’s name relates to daddy, and their son’s to mom. Cool.
Tallulah – Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ daughter
Scout and Rumer might be hip, but Tallulah takes the cake. Too bad she changed her name to Lula.
Ripley and Nico – Thandie Newton’s daughters
Thandie’s daughters were named after the character Ellen Ripley in the Alien films, and Nico, the Velvet Underground singer and Warhol Superstar, respectively.

Actor Rob Morrow with daughter Tu Morrow (photo: WENN.com)
Recently, there have been a few Blisstree posts about baby names (What Not to Name Your Kid, Crowdsourcing, Bad Baby Names), and, given my own sordid baby-naming history, I have to join the conversation. Seven years ago, we gave our very sweet little girl a very wrong name. Okay, so it wasn’t Tu Morrow (born of Rob Morrow) or Fifi Trixibell (born of Bob Geldof). In fact, there was nothing inherently wrong with the name itself. It was pretty actually. (Just please don’t make me say it). But it was wrong. Wrong. Wrong. And so we changed it.
Truth is, we had been pretty smug about our baby-naming skills. While some insist that whatever name you choose, a child will grow into it, as a kid I couldn’t even name a kitten or a puppy ...

Crowdsourcing news, videos, reviews, and even books is common practice these days, but what about your kid’s name? Tina Roth Eisenberg, known as Swissmiss on her popular design blog, just gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on Valentine’s Day. His moniker was a given – she affectionately refers to him as swissmister on her site – but picking his real name proved more difficult. Like a true new media whiz, she went to the Web. She broadcast her search for a name, set the conditions (four-letter boy name), and crowdsourced it from her readers and Twitter followers. She got some 10,000 suggestions, and her final choice was Tilo (pronounced tee-lo).
Is she the pioneer of a novel way to name kids, or just someone who’s way too addicted to the Web? The g...

This isn’t a Dr. Seuss book – it’s your kid’s name for life. Megan Regan and Brian Ryan are adorable…for about two seconds. As soon as your youngster goes to school, the teasing will start and never stop.

Mommies-to-be spend countless hours browsing baby books and websites to figure out how they should address their kid for the rest of their life. After all, some research suggests that a child’s name can really impact their life growing up. Sure, it was weird for Gwyneth Paltrow to dub her daughter Apple, or Anne Heche to anoint her son Atlas, but they don’t even come close to making our list of the five worst baby names.

No one ever said baby naming is easy.
With hundreds of thousands of names to choose from, family expectations, and societal trends and fads, it’s definitely something that expectant parents agonize over.
One California couple, having a hard time making a decision, has come up with a unique baby naming plan.
Having narrowed the choice down to 17 boys and girls names, they’ve set up an online poll listing the names and hope that the world, or at least cyberspace, will help them decide.
Want to help them out?

What’s in a name? Future happiness, self-esteem and peace of mind, according to research carried out in a Welsh university.
But Jochen Gebauer, lead author of a new psychological study, warns that people really have to like their own names before the peace of mind, happiness and self- esteem kick in.
He claims to have uncovered a clear link between name-liking and overall self-esteem. “People who have high self-esteem tend to like their name more,” said Mr Gebauer, a PhD student in the school of psychology at Cardiff University.
“The reason is known as the ‘mere-ownership effect’ which essen...
