Sana’a – March 2009
A woman begging in the streets of Sana’a, the capital of Yemen. Begging is the last option for survival that Somali refugees have here. Yemen is considered a haven for thousands of people fleeing from war and poverty in the Horn of Africa, but is affected by its own internal tensions. Since June 2004, a conflict in the governorate of Saada (northwest of Yemen, near the border with Saudi Arabia) is believed to have killed more than 9,000 and injured about 20,000 people.
Scare Tactics to Prevent Psychological Tests on eBay

Our friends over at The National Psychologist alerted us to a change in eBay’s policy about selling “protected” psychological tests — they now allow the sale (and resale) of such tests, whereas before this policy change they did not.
Their reasoning? Test publishers have not shown any basis, other than pure speculation, that making such tests available for sale could cause the public harm.
Many psychological tests are “protected” or “secured,” meaning they are originally sold only to certain qualified professionals (e.g., licensed professionals or researchers), with proof of their qualification. This is done to protect the integrity of the test. The more people know about a specific test (say, one of the IQ tests commonly used, or the MMPI...

OK…you buys know by now that I get on a kick about something and obess about it. I, also, run it into the ground with y’all. My last post was about no insurance and meds. I’ve realized that whining has not gotten me anywhere. NONE of you sent me money. JK….or am I?
So, being the bipolar resourceful chick that I am, I’ve come up with a brand new idea (after picking up my meds on Friday and paying out the bunghole). I’m gonna……..BEG. Right on the street corner with the other panhandlers. The difference between me and them, though, is I’m gonna be honest. None of this “I’ll work for food” signs while wearing a Columbia jacket and smoking Marlboros. Sheesh….somebody should tell those people to dress dow...

As some of you may remember, some time back, I shamelessly asked the blogosphere for their money.Today, I, along with thousands of women across the country, ran the Race for Life in honour of my best friend's mother and thousands of other people with cancer.Just to fulfil all the cliches - I started the day off with a bowl of Weetabix heaped with sugar, which I thought would get me through the run.Instead, it gave me a complete sugar high on the way to the race, carried me through for a measly 2km, and then my sugar high suddenly ended there and then, with me realising, "Hey... it's actually quite hot!" and then having to sweat out the last three kilometers. It was all good, though. Despite a lack of training for the event for stupid exams (which went crap anyway, so I might as well have ju...

The wonderful team over at Dr. Rant have awarded me with the Thinking Blogger award!Say they:Of Short White Coats and Stethescopes - I like this 3rd year UK medical student's blog because it still has an innocence and awe. It's nice to remember what we were all like when we started out on the road to Hell. A bit like reading the first few chapters of The Lord of The Rings, before the shit hits the fan.To be mentioned in the same little chunk as The Lord of the Rings is SUCH AN INCREDIBLE BOOST TO MY EGO.I am also wholly glad that they believe that the proverbial shit has not hit the fan yet. I think that comes with the Obs & Gynae rotation in year 5. Or it may hit the fan next year, in my BSc year. Plenty of time, then.Thank you very much, Dr.s Blue, Brown, Green, Mustard, Pink, Orange, Sa...

Hospital Phoenix is right. (Yet again. Groan.)I cannot set up another anonymous sponsorship page over at Race for Life, because it's against the company policy.I just had the weirdest conversation with someone at their helpdesk over the phone. He was more than a little bamboozled. ("Wait... just to recap... you want another fundraising page... for the same event... under a different name... although you're the same person... because you have a 'blog?'")I have decided to point generous readers (and lurkers) in the direction of my online sponsorship page to get more money for this event. But first, a little background into the event, and what exactly I'm doing.Recently, my best friend's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thank goodness it was discovered and operated on in time. However,...
