"No one believing in Jesus commits mass murder," he said. "The man might have called himself a Christian on the net, but he is certainly not of that faith...we can find no evidence, none, that this killer practiced Christianity in any way."It's odd to find that I agree with Bill-O. I do. I've said a great deal about this over the years. I was actually a little shocked to see how VERY much I'd said about it.But I don't think Bill-O would really like to persue that thought. Because it amounts to this: Calling yourself a Christian doesn't make you a Christian.Anders Behring Breivik is a Christian in exactly the same sense that Michelle Bachmann is. Or Ted Haggard. Or George Bush. Or Tom Ball. Jesus made this point a few times. "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord,.. " ...

Sometimes when a pundit or politician makes claims that are either contrary to or distort science for ideological or political advantage, I feel the need to discuss those claims, sometimes even sarcastically. Such was the case last week, when Ann Coulter wrote a blisteringly ignorant column, entitled A Glowing Report on Radiation. She wrote this article in the wake of the fears arising in Japan and around the world of nuclear catastrophe due to the damage to the Fukushima nuclear power plant caused by the earthquake and tsunami that hit northern Japan on March 11. Coulter was subsequently interviewed by Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly on The O’Reilly Factor on Thursday evening:
Yes, according to Coulter, radiation is good for you, just like toxic sludge! Even more amazing, in this video ...

A certain gentleman and I have a habit of arguing over actresses that we do and don’t like: I don’t mind Julia Roberts, but he thinks she’s a horrid actress. I’m no fan of Brooklyn Decker (she looks like a pug!), he thinks she’s not so bad (uh-huh). The other night, we broached the topic of Jennifer Aniston: He hates her for a number of reasons, but his favorite way to sum it all up is by referring to her as “beige.” (I think he got this trick from his favorite film critic.) I feigned some resistance to his logic, but by and large, I think he might be right. So this one’s for him.
Nick Hadel’s 5 Reasons Jennifer Aniston Is Harmful to Society (That Don’t Have to Do With Bill O’Reilly):

Jennifer Aniston’s been busy promoting her new movie, The Switch, about a single woman using a sperm donor to have a child. Aniston said, “Women are realizing more and more that you don’t have to settle. They don’t have to fiddle with a man to have that child.” Yes, that’s right — Aniston said that women don’t need men to have a baby. How. Dare. She.

Bill O’Reilly said on Tuesday that Aniston’s comments were “destructive to our society.” If women realize they don’t need men to have a baby, what else will they think they can do on their own? Drive a car? Run a business? We’re so lucky that Bill O’Reilly is brave enough to tell the truth, no matte...

Eric Deggans, has a nice article in the Saint Petersburg Times summarizing research by psychologists from Univesity of South Florida, Jamie L. Goldenberg and Nathan A. Heflick. Their research examined the objectifying effects of thinking about Sarah Palin’s appearance. Immediately below, you will find excerpts from Deggans’s article. Below that, you’ll find some reflections from Jamie Goldenberg regarding the negative reaction of some conservative media to her research.
