Right now, one of Blisstree’s most-viewed posts is one called Prince William Getting Married in 2010? (And the post itself is actually from 2009.) I’m guessing this means that a fair number of you harbor more than a casual interest in what’s going on in London this Friday, April 29. I’ll admit it: When Prince Charles and Lady Diana got married way back in July, 1981 (I was just a kid), but I remember that the entire beach town where we spent our summers came to a screeching halt. I also remember crowding into the living room of our next-door-neighbor’s house at the crack of dawn to watch the ceremony live on their tiny black-and-white TV set. (Most people in our shore town, including my family, prided themselves on choosing to not have a TV in their summer hou...

Don’t tell us you forgot our birthday. For shame. See, back in the day, Blisstree used to be a network of blogs, but re-launched as the health and wellness website you now see before you one year ago today on March 11, 2010. Which makes today our first birthday, and you’re invited to our party.
Now, toddlers typically get cupcakes with candles in them for their birthdays, but here at Blisstree, we want to give presents on our special day, instead of receive them. (So definitely check out our 40 Days of Giveaways, where one reader wins a different prize every weekday for 40 days, just for becoming our Facebook fan. Two down, 38 to go!) So happy birthday to us, and by association, to you.
We’ve been really glad to bring you health and wellness content over...

This Valentine’s Day, you could be a boring old traditionalist and go the dinner, flowers, chocolates, lingerie, perfume, or teddy bear route. Or you could step things up in the bedroom with the We-Vibe II couples vibrator – which will give pleasure that lasts a lot longer than any of the aforementioned gifts, except for maybe the teddy bear. And to celebrate hearts, store-bought cards, and made-up holidays, we’re giving away a We-Vibe II couples vibrator to one lucky Blisstree reader, just for commenting on this post. Read on for details on how to enter.
This compact, colorful (ruby, purple, or teal) sex toy fits inside her during vaginal intercourse, providing maximum pleasure by stimulating both the G-spot and the clitoris. Oh, and there’s plenty of room for him, too...

Dressing Up For Halloween: Cool or Lame? Take Our Poll

Witch, ghost, French maid, vampire, paroled NFL player. Or, Halloween costumes for the somewhat less creatively challenged: A nostalgic board game from childhood; partly cloudy with a chance of showers (glue cotton balls to your shirt and carry around a spray bottle of water); or dress up as yourself 20 years ago. But, as adults, should we really get in on all this autumnal trickery, or just hand the whole damn holiday over to a bunch of ungrateful kids who wail about not getting enough candy and then complain of stomachaches later on anyway? To be in costume or not to be costume, that is the question (on October 31st). So what’s your answer? This Halloween, it’s either time for us to grow up – or dress up as a Shakespeare character.

Summer’s winding down and we’re consumed with thoughts of cool, autumn evenings sipping red wine by the fire. We’re picturing ourselves curling up on the couch on lazy fall Sundays just taking it easy (and catching up on all things Blisstree, of course).
And we want to help one of our Facebook fans do just that – in style. To mark Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s new breast cancer awareness event, Sleep In for the Cure, Blisstree and Nautica have created a lazy Sunday package that will keep one lucky Facebook fan in cozy comfort, while raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research through Susan G.
Though we have some of our own summer reading plans, we wanted to know what Blisstree readers were getting their noses into this season, so last week we put out a call for your best summer book recommendations. (We even gave away a $25 Amazon.com gift card to a randomly chosen commenter as a big “Thank You” for your suggestions.)
We combed through your comments – there were a lot – and made a Blisstree reader’s choice reading list: Here the 12 books that have the strongest recommendations, and made it onto our summer reading list. To find out more about what we’re reading, check out our profile on goodreads, one of our favorite places to track our reading and find great user book reviews.

We tweet – lots. Follow us. We dare you to @ us, or maybe even send us a direct message. So there.
You should also keep up with our sister sites; they’re hip and smart and funny as hell. Check out TheGloss (fashion, beauty, dating) on Facebook, and follow them on Twitter. Also visit Crushable (celebs, gossip, entertainment) – here they are on Facebook, and, voilá, here they are on Twitter.

We’re not sure if you’ve noticed (nudge, nudge), but we recently revamped our comments section. You don’t have to register and get a password or anything like that anymore – you can just comment. To celebrate, we’re giving away five prizes to the five best comments of this week. Yes, you read that right – five readers will win just by leaving a comment. We must be crazy! We are, but in a good way.

We hate to point out the obvious, but the more awesome the comment, the better chance you have of winning.
Leave your best comment below by 6 p.m. EST this Sunday, June 27, 2010, and you could win:
25 Packets of EBOOST
An all-natural, delicious, sugar-free alternative to all the high-calorie, chemical-filled energy drinks out there.

Become an EX and Quit Smoking: Enter This Week's Giveaway

Do you smoke or know someone who does? More importantly, do you want to quit?
At Blisstree, we think smoking is a big deal. And apparently, so do you. (One of our posts: What Happens to Your Body If You Stop Smoking Right Now? currently has 4,282 comments.)
That’s why we’re partnering with EX® for this week’s giveaway to support smokers who want to kick the habit, as well as non-smokers who want to help them do it.

BecomeAnEX is a FREE online and social-media-based quit smoking program. Get this: 70% of smokers in the U.S. want to quit, but only about 5% of smokers are successful in quitting long-term. Most people just don’t know how to quit.
That’s where EX comes in. The free EX Plan, available at BecomeAnEX, teaches smokers how to “re-learn” life without cigar...

Hey, Blisstree Readers! Five of you could win this cool, new water filtration pitcher from Mavea if you enter this week’s giveaway!
At Blisstree, we like water filtration pitchers because they mean less petroleum used to make plastic water bottles, lower transportation costs and CO2 emissions from flying and trucking cases of plastic water bottles, and, hopefully, fewer plastic water bottles clogging up landfills around the world. That’s why we’re partnering with Mavea for this week’s super-cool giveaway.

Jeiforman said: I didn’t meet LaToya or Rocco, but MY YELLOW purse did!!! Woop Woop!!
We think she was referring to our recent exclusive Bertolli Into the Heart of Italy Giveaway, where we randomly picked a reader (perhaps jeiforman’s friend?) and sent her on an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles last week with Blistree’s Deputy Editor to meet chef Rocco DiSpirito!
Congratulations jeiforman – you’ve won yourself a special prize from Blisstree!
Keep it here for more giveaways.

Starbucks Giveaway – Last Day!

Blisstree announced our first giveaway on Monday (see below for details) – remember to leave a comment by tonight at 9 p.m. ET for a chance to win!

Look! It’s our very first reader giveaway since we launched! (But it won’t be our last.)
And the sweet prizes come from a little Seattle-based coffee shop called Starbucks. Heard of it?
Right now, Starbucks buys 75 percent of all its coffee from responsibly grown, ethically traded sources, and the company aims to up that number to 100 percent by 2015. (Last year, Starbucks also bought 40 million pounds of Fair Trade Certified coffee, which means it purchases more Fair Trade Certified coffee than anyone else in the world.)
Pretty cool, huh? So Blisstree partnered with Starbucks to give a little something back to our readers.

When Blisstree re-launched last week, we hoped to make new friends and keep the old, as the Girl Scout song goes.
In that spirit, we’re bringing back a topic that many readers seem to miss: Smoking. Or, quitting smoking, to be exact. Back in 2006, Blisstree posted a timeline of “What happens to your body when you quit smoking now”. The timeline, posted on cancer.org, is as follows:
20 minutes after quitting: Your heart rate and blood pressure drop. (Effect of Smoking on Arterial Stiffness and Pulse Pressure Amplification, Mahmud, A, Feely, J. 2003. Hypertension: 41:183.)
12 hours after quitting: The carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal.
(U.S. Surgeon General’s Report, 1988, p. 202)

Define “Moderate-Intensity Walking”

This study earns my new Blisstree Health Pat on the Back award:
If someone told you to go for a moderately intense walk, what would that mean to you? If you ask your coworkers or friends, you’d likely get differing answers too. It’s fine for healthcare professionals to offer advice, but we need to be more specific and detailed with this advice, don’t we?
Maybe now, we’re getting somewhere though. According to a press release issued by Elsevier Health Sciences, “Researchers have determined that a rate of at least 100 steps per minute achieves moderate intensity activity. Therefore a simple pedometer-based recommendation of 3000 steps in 30 minutes can get people started on a meaningful exercise program.”
That’s a fairly brisk walk, I think - but it ...

A Facelift And New Home For Healthbolt.

I knew changes were coming but still, it was a shock when I clicked onto Healthbolt today and discovered that all the red had gone.
It was like the blood had been drained out of it.
In fact, I had to look twice to make sure I was at the right blog.
I wonder if everyone feels like that when they have a facelift?
But like any good facelift, what’s underneath stays the same.
Healthbolt is still going to supply the interesting, the intriguing, the entertaining, the bizarre, and sometimes down right gross in the world of health and wellness.
So what do you think about Healthbolt’s new look, and more importantly, Healthbolt’s new digs at BlissTree?
Personally, I think you’re going to love it. The BlissTree portal from b5Media has everything about health at your fingertips...
