By Benjamin H. FriedmanOn the National Interest‘s Skeptics blog, I have a new post about my lack of outrage over the revelations in Bob Woodward’s new book about Obama and Afghanistan.
Unlike John Bolton and Heritage, I don’t think that the President’s comment that we can withstand another terrorist attack like 9-11 is offensive. After all, we can, and saying so doesn’t mean you want to try it.
As I put it there:
What’s truly outrageous is the notion that the only valid response to terrorism is cowering fear at home and endless warfare abroad. Somehow, for much the right, crediting our enemies with the ability to wreck our society is required, and it is verboten to say that we are something other than a pathetic, brittle nation that cannot manage adver...

George Monbiot blocked by security guards
No citizen’s arrest of John Bolton, the former United States Ambassador to the United Nations this evening. The obviously muddleheaded George Moonbat Monbiot was blocked by security guards from serving upon Bolton the “charge sheet.”
The attention seeking Monbiot achieved what he sought out to do: Prove that he is indeed a moron.

Linda Powell, a primary school teacher at St John’s CE in Kearsley (UK), has been suspended amid claims that she allegedly struck a 7-year-old girl. As reported in the Bolton News, the school has faced controversy before about its treatment of special needs students: In 2006, parents claimed that boys with special needs were being dressed up as girls, and that children were being physically abused and, as punishment for misbheaving, were “forced to suck a dummy.” Mel Livesay, who belongs to a parents’ action group, says that her 10-year-old autistic son was dressed up as a girl:
“He has autism and it really affected him. It still does now. For a long time I did not know why he did not want to go to school and why he would cling to the railing not wanting to go...

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (2nd L) visits the Natanz nuclear enrichment facility, 350 km (217 miles) south of Tehran, April 8, 2008
Israel now believes that Iran with its uranium enrichment centrifuges spinning at Natanz will be able to begin enriching uranium on a military scale this year.
The new assessment moves up Israel’s forecasts on Teheran’s nuclear program by almost a full year - from 2009 to the end of 2008. According to the new timeline, Iran could have a nuclear weapon by the middle of next year.
Iran, a senior defense official said on Tuesday, had encountered numerous technical obstacles on its way to enriching uranium but was now on track to master the technology needed to enrich uranium within six months.
Israel is also concerned that Teheran is develo...

Former United States Ambassador (seen here voting in the UNSC) to the United Nations has endorsed Senator John McCain for President
Team McCain yesterday issued a press release stating that John Bolton has endorsed John McCain for President.
The key quotes:
“John McCain was very active and supportive during my confirmation hearings to be the U.S. Ambassador to the UN. His belief in me at that time was a testament to his courage to fight the liberals in the Senate and vigorously advance American interests at the UN.
“I whole-heartedly endorse John McCain for President because when he takes office in January 2009 he will be prepared immediately to lead us. John will not need on the job training.
“American conservatives will have a President they can be proud of in John McCa...
