If you’re curious about what I do for a day job, you might be interested to know about an event I’m speaking at on March 14 in London.
It’s called ‘Innovation and Creativity LIVE 2011′ and it’s a 1-day workshop where I’m training Edward de Bono’s tools for coming up with new ideas, and getting them from the post-it note to reality. In a world where we are all being expected to wring more from fewer and fewer resources, creativity is ever more of a necessity.
This workshop is run by my dear friends at Indigo, and you can read more about it here. If it sounds like your thing, please come along – give Indigo a ring on 020 7924 8760 to book. And be sure to email me and let me know you’re coming!

I left on Monday, and I arrive back in the UK tomorrow. Here’s what I will have done.

Spent 8 hours in the air, on 6 planes.
Spent 14 hours in airports.
Stayed in 3 hotels.
Trained 50 people for 2 days each. Every one of thom has been polite, welcoming, and a true pleasure to work with.
Eaten 2 of the most awesome bacon sandwiches ever, fashioned myself from the contents of breakfast buffets – really good bread, very thin, very crispy, very hot bacon, and HP sauce.
Doubled my vocabulary in Swedish, by learning one word. It’s ‘Hej!’, pronounced ‘Hey!’, and it’s the standard greeting here. It’s a bit odd to be greeted with ‘Hej!’ by a Very Senior Person in a Very Large Company. My head knows I’m at work, my heart thinks I’m in a soda fountain in 1950s A...

I started my week-on cycle of HIV meds on Tuesday night, which can be confusing enough as it is. I don't need any help in being confused.
But that's what happened when I got up for a bowl of cereal, only to discover that "Clay Aiken is Gay" was a national news story yesterday thanks to Friday's People Magazine cover story.
I'm not going to pile on Aiken here. Nor am I going to mention his first solo album was called "Measure of a Man". I can't imagine how hard or terrifying it must be to have a country analyzing your sexual identity before you've figured it out for yourself.
OK, maybe I piled on a little. But while we are stating the obvious, here's my pitch to People for next week's cover...
As I polished off the last of the Raisin Bran, I also saw that Bono was going to be meeting wi...

Early 1990's Bono

Was in Target tonight, and found a jacket on the ladies discount rack: I immediately thought of Bono from the early 1990's, and am thinking he might make a good Halloween costume?

Shawno as Bono for Halloween 2008?

These were sunglasses Gwenn happened to have in her purse. I'd need a wig and someone to go as my wingman for the evening, The Edge. Oh yeah, I'd need somewhere to go on Halloween night as well, since I'm thinking Early 90's Bono might scare off the trick or treaters.
Maybe dressing up as Early 90's Bono is a plan better suited for Bella Morte's CD Release party on October 4? Synthetic Division landed the opening slot, and I'd love nothing more than to steal Bella's hard-earned thunder as "The Fly", channeling Bono in his classic frontman prime.
Look out Andy Deane: don't ...

Twenty one years ago this month, in May 1987, Irish rockers U2 released their classic Joshua Tree single, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. Those twenty one years have seen incredible technological change: the adoption of desktop computers, mobile phones, the birth of the Web and the widespread use of search engines like Google. So with sincere apologies to Bono, The Edge, Adam and Larry, it's time we updated the lyrics for the 21st century. So, I give you "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Googling For" (21st anniversary, 2008 webby edition)...

This article draws on research into the science of happiness and asks a series of interrelated questions: Whether law schools can make law students happier? Whether making happier law students will translate into making them happier lawyers, and the accompanying question of whether making law students happier would create better lawyers? After covering the limitations of genetic determinants of happiness and happiness set-points, the article addresses those qualities that happiness research indicates are paramount in creating satisfaction: control, connections, creative challenge (or flow), and comparisons (preferably downward). Those qualities are then applied to legal education, while addressing the larger philosophical question, What if happiness were a goal of law schools?

We have your son. We are destroying his ability for social interaction and driving him into a life of complete isolation. It’s up to you now…
