Congratulations to Stan down there, over in Christchurch, New Zealand. He is the winner of the When Can I Go Home? Goodreads book giveaway. He will receive a signed copy of the book. I have got to say I love and always will have a fondness in my heart for New Zealand. Long ago when I was a young man like age 32, in the early 90's, I worked a locum tenans psychiatry job in old Palmerston North, New Zealand. working at Wanganui-Manawatu Health later named Mid-Central Health. I was fresh out of residency and life was hopeful. It seemed optimistic that you could actually pay off your loans and get out of debt as a practicing psychiatrist. -Ha!. It seemed like being a physician was a respectable thing to do in society (I hadn't lived in MN yet hah ha.) and all around li...

This week I have a signed copy of ‘The Bridesmaid Pact’ by Julia Williams to give away to someone in need of a good read.

I came to read this because I’d set off on a long journey with only a few pages left to read of the book I had with me. I went into Waterstones in a panic and was overwhelmed by the choice… so I asked Twitter to recommend a fiction paperback and said I’d buy the first one suggested. It was ‘The Bridesmaid Pact’. I bought it. I read it. I really enjoyed it. It’s funny, it deals with some pretty hefty themes, and the characters are all interesting and believable and just a little bit flawed. There’s a review of it here. Julia Williams blogs here and you can follow her on Twitter here.

“It feels like I’m on the edge of a cliff and about to fall into something wonderful.”
When I first heard of ‘Not So Perfect’ via the deep, dark depths of the addictive twitterverse, I was immediately tempted. Short stories have my heart; we’re married by something words cannot describe, but real short shorties have such gorgeous appeal.

And the Winner of ‘Road Trip Guide to the Soul’ is…

Am happy to see that so many of you are like me and love hitting the road. Road trips really are exhilerating and result in such memorable experiences.
But road trips aren’t only about getting in the car and driving off in the sunset. They can also be about looking for change, looking for answers, and clearing the mind.
And that’s really what the book ‘Road Trip Guide to the Soul’ is all about. I can guarantee that by the time you’ve finished reading it and following some of the ideas and action plans, you’ll be feeling as exhilerated as when you got into the car and took off.
One lucky Healthbolt reader will be able to discover this for themselves. The winner of Sadie Nardini’s Road Trip Guide to the Soul is…
Brandlyn
Congratulations Brandly...

‘no one knows what goes on behind closed doors’.
- Behind Closed Doors, Charlie Rich, 1973
Okay, so it’s not something that we freely admit but let’s face it, we all have a little bit of curiosity as to what goes on in other people’s bedrooms. After all, we live in a world that seems to be obsessed with sex. But when it comes to talking about the intimate details of one’s sex life, it’s something that seldom happens, especially among women.
Writer and editor Paula Derrow thinks this is because of fear…
‘fear of being exposed as inadequate, or worse, of being boring. Living in an all-sex-all-the-time culture may be liberating in many ways, but it can also breed shame - shame for not keeping up, for not being invited to the party.’

As a result, we often put ourselves at risk to obtain a perfect body in the hopes of having a perfect life.
Enter Pat Ballard, the Queen of the Rubenesque Romances. She writes writes romance novels and short stories with Big Beautiful Heroines to show that plus-size women are just as sexy, romantic, and exciting as their slim sisters.
But Pat wasn’t always this comfortable with the large body. As a young woman, she almost died trying to starve her body into a societally approved size. But having, through the years, made peace with the fact that she was a ‘perfect size twenty-two!’ Pat has written a b...

AlzheimersNotes.com

We have a winner for the Glass Full of Tears Giveaway, associated with the Bloggy Giveaways Carnival. A copy of the book is on its way to her.
Kristen mentions in her comment:
My first job ever was working in a Nursing Home. I saw many different faces of Alzheimer’s and dementia while working there- the good, the bad, and the incredibly sad. But also the very wonderful!
Thanks, Kristen, for entering the giveaway and for sharing your experience. Alzheimer’s is all of what you mention…and if you let yourself look beyond the sad and and not so good, you will see the very wonderful. This is something I learned when caring for my aunt and mom.
