It’s official, or as official as it can be: The New York Times reports that formaldehyde is listed as a carcinogen by government scientists, and that “…it is found in worrisome quantities in plywood, particle board, mortuaries and hair salons.”
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43362696/ns/health-the_new_york_times
However, both the U.S. government and The New York Times forgot to include that formaldehyde also is present in vaccines. Who says that? None other than the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in their official listing of
Vaccines and Immunizations /Ingredients of Vaccines Fact Sheet Source http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/B/excipient-table-1.pdf and http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vac-gen/additives.htm

If you believe everything you read on the Internet, then is seems that a chemical found in thousands of products is causing an epidemic of severe neurological and systemic diseases, like multiple sclerosis and lupus. The FDA, the companies that make the product, and the “medical industrial complex” all know about the dangers of this chemical, but are hiding the truth from the public in order to protect corporate profits and avoid the pesky paper work that would accompany the truth being revealed.
The only glimmer of hope is a dedicated band of bloggers and anonymous email chain letter authors who aren’t afraid to speak the truth. Armed with the latest anecdotal evidence, unverified speculation, and scientifically implausible claims, they have been tirelessly ranting about the evils o...

The United States Environmental Protection Agency has now listed eight ingredients found in the Corexit chemical dispersants being used in the BP oil spill. One is 2 butoxy ethanol, which is described as a carcinogen that along with nausea and vomiting may cause liver and kidney damage. BP reportedly has dumped more than 1.2 million gallons of Corexit into the Gulf to date. (Source: Inside Surgery)

In the quest for a greener tomorrow, “eco-friendly” dry cleaning was only a matter of time. According to a Wall Street Journal.com article, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has begun to phase out the old, tried-and-true method of dry cleaning our clothes. That process didn’t involve water, but instead, a chemical called perchloroethylene, or “PERC,” that violates the Clean Air Act, and, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, contains a probable human carcinogen.
These days, you have four ways to dry clean your clothes that are allegedly kinder to the environment. One is “wet-cleaning,” which involves water, a special detergent, and high-tech machinery. The other three are eerily similar to the PERC method: no water,...

And we all thought tanning beds were a safe substitute to sunbathing! But in recent years, doctors saw a dramatic rise in the number of young people with skin cancer as the use of tanning beds increased, so scientists combined the results of 20 studies and found a scary trend:
The risk for skin cancer increases by 75 percent when people start using tanning beds before age 30. And the risk for skin and eye cancer from using tanning beds is so high that it is now classified into the top cancer risk category, alongside tobacco, arsenic, and mustard gas. Wow. We know arsenic and mustard gas are lethal, but tanning beds?!
Well, one British study found melanoma as the leading type of cancer diagnosed in women in their 20s. And young women are considered the highest risk-group because of their...

A paper in Science from Jason Crawford and colleagues explores the function of polyketide synthetases (PKS) in the synthesis of the secondary metabolite and carcinogen aflatoxin. Previous work (nicely reviewed in the fungi by Nancy Keller and colleagues) has shown the the PKS genes have several domains. These domains include acyl carrier protein (ACP), transacylase (SAT), ketosynthase (KS), malonyl-CoA:ACP transacylase (MAT), “product template” PT, Aand thioesterase/Claisen cyclase (TE/CLC). These domains make up PksA, but the specific role of each domain's in synthesis steps has not been fully worked out. Understanding this process and the specificity of the chemical structures that are created can help in redesign of these enzymes for synthesis of new molecules and drugs.

Pfizer’s AIDS Drug Has Carcinogen

A potential human carcinogen has been found in batches of Viracept, according to a letter the drugmaker is sending to doctors. The carcinogen - ethyl methanesulfonate or EMS - is the same one that caused Roche to recall the drug in Europe, but Pfizer says levels found in its own batches were “substantially lower.”
An FDA notice called EMS a “potential human carcinogen.” Studies suggest EMS may cause cancer and birth defects in animals but no data in humans exist, and the FDA and Pfizer agreed that pregnant women and children who are starting treatment shouldn’t take Viracept until further notice. For pregnant women with no alternative treatment options, “FDA and Pfizer agree that the risk-benefit ratio remains favorable for the continued use of Viracept...

Filed under: Skin Cancer, Daily newsLast Tuesday night, I watched Greta Van Susteren of Fox News' On The Record as she interviewed Brittany Lietz, Miss Maryland 2006. Greta asked Brittany what her Miss Maryland job entails. Brittany told Greta her full-time job is to represent her platform -- skin cancer.Brittany didn't choose just any topic for her platform. She chose one that is entirely personal. Skin cancer has left more than 20 scars on Brittany's body. One, on her back, marks the site where a stage two melanoma was removed when she was just 19 years old. It presented as a mole, a little smaller than a nickel, she says. In all likelihood, the cancer was caused by two years of tanning bed use. Brittany says she probably tanned every day for two years. Her pursuit of bronzed skin began ...

Filed under: All Cancers, Research, Daily news, Thought for the DayThe Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has something important to say about the sugar substitute aspartame.Think about this:Italian researchers concluded in 2005 that aspartame causes cancer. But Laura Tarantino of the FDA Office of Food Additive Safety concludes after a review of the study data that the low-calorie sweetener is not a carcinogen. A similar review by the FDA's European counterpart agrees. There is no evidence this substance, used for 25 years to sweeten soda, gum, dairy products, and some medications, causes cancer.Italian researchers say they will release their latest aspartame study results on Monday.Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments (Sour...
