Amy Winehouse’s Death: Who’s To Blame?

In just two days, much has been written about Amy Winehouse and her sudden death. The 27-year-old British singer-songwriter made no secret of her battle with drugs, alcohol and depression over the course of her short career. But amidst the speculation of how exactly she died—although many would say an overdose seems like the obvious culprit—some are now asking a bigger question: Who’s to blame?
The five-time Grammy winner may be remembered best for her hit song “Rehab” where she sang:
They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, ‘No, no, no.’
In a previous interview on the British TV show, The Album Chart Show, Winehouse admitted she had a problem and that song represented a plea from family and friends to seek help:
I do drink a lot. I think it’s symp...

Everyday people in recovery often turn to 12 Step Fellowship support groups or an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) sponsor when they face a possible relapse, but some celebrities and other wealthy addicts are turning to paid “sober companions” to help maintain their sobriety, the New York Times reported.
Sober companions like Ronnie Kaplan, a former addict and ex-con, can earn fees of up to $1,000 per day for their services. “I get there and I sit him down and relax his mind,” Kaplan said of his interaction with one wealthy client. “I ask him ’What brought this on?’ It’s always something.” Kaplan said he will even search the client’s home for drugs if he thinks it is warranted.
Some sober companions become part of a celebrity’s entourage, like a perso...

On May 27th, 2011, actor Jeff Conaway died from complications of opioid dependence. His death has been attributed to several causes—sepsis, pneumonia, and aspiration among them— but there is little debate over the ultimate cause of his death at the age of 60 years, that being addiction to opioid pain medications.
Mr. Conaway reportedly struggled with chronic pain and addiction to pain medications for a number of years. His situation was particularly tragic—living with severe pain that was relieved by nothing save for a substance with the power to destroy him. Such situations are, unfortunately, not uncommon.
It is easy to take the position that Mr. Conaway should have avoided pain pills; that his addiction essentially disqualified him from even considering them. I will take that atti...

Catherine Zeta-Jones Open About Mental Illness, Other Celebs Not So Much

Catherine Zeta-Jones released a statement yesterday, announcing that she not only has Bipolar II Disorder, but that she also recently sought treatment at a mental health care facility in the wake of hubby Michael Douglas’ cancer scare. Good on her for being so forthcoming – usually, celebrities go to exorbitant lengths to hide their illnesses from the public which, in most cases, is a recipe for disaster. Hollywood just can’t keep secrets today like it could 20 years ago. TMZ, Perez Hilton, and the 24-hour AP newswire all have insiders and whistleblowers informing them of every celebrity hang-nail, papercut, bunion and sniffle. But Zeta-Jones has effectively issued a preemptive strike against speculation by just owning up to the truth of her situation.
Here’s a list of ...

Recall that last summer Phil Mickelson was quoted in the press as saying he was treating his Psoriatic Arthritis with ENBREL. He was also quoted as saying: "I have no aches and pains. My back feels great. I feel stronger and more flexible than I've ever been" (see here). At that time, Phil may or may not have been in talks with AMGEN/PFIZER to sign on as a celebrity spokesperson, but the simultaneous appearance of multiple news stories featuring Phil & ENBREL sure looked like an audition to show AMGEN/PFIZER what he could do for them.During last week's 2011 Masters Tournament, Phil finished tied for 27th place! Consequently, I didn't see much of him on TV hitting a golf ball. I did, however, see a lot of him on TV ads for ENBREL. Now that he is featured in ENBREL TV ads, everyone knows ...

Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Addiction Needs Its Own Rehab

Vh1’s show Celebrity Rehab may attempt to help those suffering from addiction, but increasingly the show is making a mockery of its patients mental health. The most recent debacle? Real Housewife Michaele Salahi has been booted from Dr. Drew’s rehabilitation facility because she doesn’t exhibit any actual addictions. But that never stopped the show’s casting agents before. So it’s time for VH1’s hit show to get its own rehab. Or maybe the network just needs to drop it cold turkey.
The show was initially created to treat celebrities with major drug and alcohol addictions. Coincidentally, such people make for great TV. Not that there ever was a purity to the program, but increasingly, people who have questionable addictions are being cast. One patient from last season...

I've already done that, been there (see Phil Mickelson "Opens Up" to Arthritis Today Magazine and Is Phil Mickelson Shilling for Enbrel?). So, relax and proceed to the back nine! This is about the "non-branded" disease awareness campaign just announced by Pfizer & Amgen, the companies that bring you ENBREL. The centerpiece of the campaign is the "On Course with Phil" website, which is pretty lame by today's social media standards. Before I get to that, let me show you the homepage screen that I just captured:In case you missed it, I circled the "money shot," which is not Phil hitting the ball in the hole, but the prominent link to a "treatment option." The link, of course, leads directly to the branded ENBREL website. Surely, this biologic compo...

The weekends start out for me with the usual shopping trips to grocery stores and markets to stock up for the week. While my husband and I were standing in various checkout lines, it was hard not to notice the magazine covers with pictures of the actress Christina Applegate and her baby. It was also hard for me not to feel emotionally affected by her serene expression while holding her beautiful baby. This young woman battled breast cancer at an early age and survived to become a mother. I was overwhelmed by her story and her victory.
Those of us who are diagnosed when our children are young worry about surviving breast cancer to be there for them. I can’t imagine what it feels like for younger women diagnosed with the disease who wonder if they will even be able to have children. Storie...

Recall that Mickelson announced that he had psoriatic arthritis last August in a news story titled "PGA Championship 2010, Whistling Straits: Phil Mickelson Has Psoriatic Arthritis - Uses Enbrel To Help Manage Condition."In that story, Mickelson was quoted as saying "I have no aches and pains.
How often have you seen a teeth-whitening ad that shows the person with bright, white teeth as more attractive — sexier even?
Or viewed an ad for a green cleaning product that made you fearful that using a chemical product would harm your kids?
Or just think of any product — diet food, skin care, insurance company, car, medication — that features celebrity testimonials or the words of other consumers who’ve achieved “incredible results.”
For these common advertising ploys, you can thank John B. Watson, the founder of behaviorism here in America.
After getting fired from his academic post at Johns Hopkins, Watson began working for one of the biggest advertising agencies in New York City, J. Walter Thompson. (He was dismissed for his scandalous divorce. Short story: He fell in lo...

Many, if not most of us when asked that question, would envision a skid row bum or someone at least out of work or with little education locked into a low-skill, low-paying job. But that is not accurate, according to the results of a national study released in June, 2007 by the National Institutes of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The NIAAA determined that alcoholics in the United States really fall into five subtypes, including nearly 20 percent who are "highly functional alcoholics, well-educated with good incomes." They include corporate presidents, powerful politicians, police, lawyers, doctors, scientists, an...

This person suggested that it is possible that golf and golf pro sponsorships consume more than 15% of a pharma company's DTC marketing budget. "15% for Golf is huge!", I said. "Not necessarily," said my friend. "The dollars also include other expenses besides endorsement such as internal PR costs."I'm not sure what this person meant by "internal PR" costs.
Amgen Blows Its Marketing Budget on Phil Mickelson Campaign

Back in August 2010, I asked "Is Phil Mickelson Shilling for Enbrel?" (see this post). My question was prompted by a couple of "news" stories, one of which proclaimed "PGA Championship 2010, Whistling Straits: Phil Mickelson Has Psoriatic Arthritis - Uses Enbrel To Help Manage Condition." The story also included this quote from Phil: "I have no aches and pains. My back feels great. I feel stronger and more flexible than I've ever been."That's quite a claim! If Phil made such a claim while being a paid spokesperson for ENBREL, he would have probably violated FDA regulations regarding unsubstantiated claims. He also would have violated FTC regulations regarding celebrity endorsements and testimonials by not disclosing "material connections" (payments or free products) between advertisers and...

Prince William and Kate Middleton are finally getting hitched, according to announcements today by the British royal family. Their wedding, which is expected to happen in spring or summer 2011, will be the biggest royal wedding since Charles and Diana’s fairy-tale ceremony in 1981, and is expected to be one of the most widely-watched television events in years. According to officials at Clarence House, the couple, both 28, got engaged last month while on a trip to Kenya, when Prince William gave Middleton his mother’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
The royal engagement has sparked a wildfire of media reports, and has us contemplating the past and future of their relationship. The couple met in September 2001 at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, from which they b...

I recently got an e-mail from my brother-in-law. He wanted to share a fun story about Bret Michaels and his generosity around supporting diabetes. This is Tammy. Tammy is married to my BIL's boss, Jason. Tammy and Jason's daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a few years ago. Tammy is a huge fan of Poison, and appreciates Bret's involvement and contributions to the diabetes community. Tammy and a friend went to a recent concert at a Casino not too far away from the Twin Cities. After the concert Tammy told the guy checking VIP tickets about her daughter having diabetes and how she loves what Bret is doing, he let her through (even though she didn't have backstage passes). She got to meet Bret, take this great picture, and had him autograph a shirt for her ...

No one could be more unhappy than Lindsay Lohan about the fact that soon there will be no more free drugs at any doctor’s office thanks to President Obama’s “healthcare reform law”. While touted to bring access and affordability to all – naturally it doesn’t, and while it is now clear to the Democrat Congress and Senate who voted it in without reading the bill – here is another unseen but real consequence of their failures.

Pharmaceutical companies give doctor’s offices free samples to give to patients who can’t afford medication, or need to “try them before they have to buy them.” And they give us a lot of them!

Meaningful skincare products are endorsed by Cindy Crawford, a former US supermodel who is getting a little older.
The complete line includes cleansers, creams and masks. Finding out about the ingredients has been difficult.
Many cosmetic companies use advertising and celebrity endorsements to sell their products. They might talk about the science behind the ingredients or the results we can expect to see after using them. But they don’t want to give us a detailed list of ingredients until we physically pick up the product.
Some companies are becoming less secretive about their products. They realize that more and more consumers are concerned about safety. It’s not just the people with allergies or sensitivities that worry these days.
Scientists from around the world have exp...

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 40 percent of adults were single in 2009. Researchers have found that the “single stigma” is worst for women in their mid-20’s through mid-30’s. Women 35 and older are more content with their single status and don’t complain of social pressure as much as younger singles.
Michelle Cove, director and producer of the feature-length documentary, “Seeking Happily Ever After,” has just compiled a book by the same title.
In between its covers, Michelle presents simple but smart steps for singles to identify their relationship needs and goals, and learns how to pursue healthier, stronger relationships. I have pulled the following suggestions from chapter four, “The Princess in Waiting.”

ADHD: Fact Or Fiction? Join Me On Capitol Hill

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is probably overdiagnosed by physicians. In the lay public, the term is often used jokingly to describe the common feeling of distraction we experience in a world filled with interruptions. With a constant stream of text messages, Facebook updates, TV commercials, and fast-paced Twittering, there’s little wonder that we all feel frazzled at times.
But the occasional experience of jangled nerves is not a proper basis for a diagnosis of ADHD. Unfortunately, there has been great confusion between the actual disorder, and its misuse as a label for simply feeling distracted.
So to help set the record straight and to tease out fact from fiction, I’ll be attending a forum on Capitol Hill with my co-bloggers Dr. Kevin Pho and Dr. Rob Lamb...

Well, a few years ago, Bacon decided to capitalize on his Six Degrees mega-popularity and found SixDegrees.org, a social networking site that’s all about finding charitable nonprofits (more than one million of them), promoting the ones you already care about, and donating to help support them.
On the car radio, I have several times happened upon “infomercial” programs touting the benefits of testosterone replacement therapy for men, broadcast by doctors who specialize in prescribing the drugs. They have lots of wonderful stories about men who feel younger, happier, and more vigorous because of their macho remedies. It’s a tribute to the power of the placebo.
I have been reviewing John Brinkley’s goat gland scam for a presentation on medical frauds. In an era before the isolation of the hormone testosterone, Brinkley transplanted goat testes into human scrotums in an attempt to treat impotence and aging. We are more sophisticated today — but not much. Longevity clinics and individual practitioners are offering testosterone to men as a general pick-me-up and anti-agi...

The golf world was stunned by Tiger Woods' recent poor performance. Another bit of "stunning" news hit the golf world yesterday when the #2 ranked duffer Phil Mickelson announced that he suffers from Psoriatic Arthritis and is being treated with Enbrel. See "Phil Mickelson Arthritis: Will Play At PGA Whistling Straights". The New York Times also ran a story: "Immune Disorder Could Be an Enduring Test for Mickelson".Both these articles mentioned that he was being treated with Enbrel, a drug jointly marketed by AMGEN & PFIZER. The first article I cited includes the subtitle "PGA Championship 2010, Whistling Straits: Phil Mickelson Has Psoriatic Arthritis - Uses Enbrel To Help Manage Condition" and includes this quote from Phil: "I have no aches and pains.
Rosario Dawson Helps Fight Arizona Immigration Law: Daily Do-Gooder

Actress Rosario Dawson has gathered some fellow Hollywood luminaries (including Cameron Diaz and Padma Lakshmi) to help fight Arizona’s recent immigration law with a new PSA campaign. The outrageous law allows police to stop and question people in Arizona who look like they may be illegal immigrants.
Dawson’s campaign “United We Win” will launch in September through her organization Voto Latino, which encourages Latino youth and young adults to unify on issues that impact their lives. Dawson hopes that uniting these youth and registering them to vote will help put a stop to divisive racial profiling. Check out a behind-the-scenes preview of the upcoming PSA here:

Celebrity Volunteerism: Phony or Profound?

Some celebrities really care about volunteer work, but these days it seems like any celebrity with a savvy PR agent has done charity work. Images of Angelina Jolie cuddling orphans or Sean Penn distributing water to earthquake survivors abound in the media, and while some find them inspiring, just as many roll their eyes at stars who seem to benefit from pointing out others’ misfortunes.
While we’d like to think that Kim Kardashian genuinely wants to help relief efforts in Haiti, we’ll never know if she’s doing it to look good or because she cares. Then again, does it even matter? Raising awareness for a worthwhile cause is never a bad thing.
Do you care what motivates celebrities to do charity work? Does it really matter if they’re doing it for ...

Angela Kinsey Saves Feral Cats: Daily Do-Gooder

Angela Kinsey (of NBC’s The Office) recently became the face of a new PSA for Alley Cat Allies. She hopes to direct attention to all those who have helped or fed stray cats. Apparently I’ve done it, you’ve done it, and your neighbor has done it (40% of us have, to be exact). These alley cat allies also want to spread the idea of Trap-Neuter-Return – a program that helps control feral cat populations and improve kitty-cat health.
We applaud these efforts, because cats are cool. But we’ll never love them as much as Angela on The Office does.

In between being a Food Network darling, writing cookbooks, having her own Target product line, voicing Paulette for the Disney kids’ show Handy Manny, and raising a daughter, Giada finds time to fight poverty on the side as an ambassador for Oxfam America. Giada advocates for women’s issues, and is helping Oxfam raise $25,000 dollars by this Thursday to support their efforts to help pass the International Violence Against Women Act. Oxfam also aims to give impoverished families a voice when it comes to climate change legislation – to help protect them from future natural disasters. (Donating $20 or more will get you a limited-edition set of photo postcards.) Giada packs a powerfully philanthropic punch into that 5′2″ frame.

Eva Longoria Parker will host a gala in Paris for the Par Coeur Association, an organization she founded with her husband, NBA player Tony Parker, who is French. Par Coeur’s mission is to bring attention to fiscally responsible charities that help families and children all over the world.
The Parisian gala will benefit Toutes A L’Ecoles, a nonprofit organization that helps build schools and education programs for young girls in developing countries. It will also benefit Eva’s Heroes – a nonprofit that assists people with developmental challenges by providing them with support. (Eva has a sister who is mentally challenged.)
That’s one altruistic housewife.

Remember localwashing? When a company pretends that it’s using local goods to create a product, but it’s really just trying to get you to buy crap? Greenwashing is similar, but instead of pretending to be local, companies fake eco-friendliness. And some of our favorite, most well-meaning celebrities just got played. Big time.
In the “Be The One” public service announcement promoting restoration in the Gulf of Mexico following the BP oil spill, celebrities including Sandra Bullock, Blake Lively, and Dave Matthews urged the public to sign a petition demanding government funding for clean-up efforts. But it turns out that the PSA was made by America’s Wetland Foundation, which is funded by Shell Oil –

If former prez Bill Clinton were to throw a party, and wanted to invite the two most random people he could think of, who would they be? Did you guess Justin Bieber and Usher? Then you would be right. But as odd as that sounds, it makes total sense when you find out why.
Clinton and Usher are co-chairs for the New Look Foundation’s first World Leadership Awards, which will raise funds to mentor youth as world leaders. Justin Bieber will perform at the awards ceremony because, well, he is youth – and as such, could bring attention to this charity. See? Not so random after all.

We like Cate Blanchett for plenty of reasons, but we felt especially compelled to call out her latest work to reduce the carbon footprint of the Sydney Theatre Company. The Academy Award-winning actress and her husband, Andrew Upton, are aiming to make it completely carbon neutral by 2011 – they’re installing rooftop solar panels, harvesting rainwater, composting, and recycling waste. Their efforts won the highest honor at Australia’s 2010 Green Globe Awards. (And, of course, the prestigious award of being named Blisstree’s Daily Do-Gooder.)

We’ve got one more thing to add to our 6 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do With Your Placenta: You can send Mel Gibson into a career-ruining rage. Apparently, during a placenta-planting ceremony, the gardener made conversation with Oksana Grigorieva (Gibson’s now estranged baby-mama), who smiled at him. Mel assumed that Oksana was having an affair with the gardener, and we all know what happened next.
Way to go, Mel. Taking an already weird ceremony and infecting it with your crazy. We hope that buried placenta haunts you, Mad Max.

Mel Gibson is now not just an enemy of humankind, he’s started abusing the plant world as well. On Wednesday, the aggressive actor was questioned by social services, and took out his anger on a nearby tree. But don’t worry — the tree wasn’t going to stand for that bullshit. (It claims it did nothing to provoke the actor.) Mel apparently injured his hand “quite badly,” according to a friend. When nature turns against you, it’s probably time to back down.
He’d better watch out, or those huge, walking trees from Lord of the Rings are going to come after his sorry ass.

I remember watching John Wayne movies with my dad when I was a kid. These were mostly Wayne's WWII movies, which my father, who was born in 1922, really liked. Later, my generation rather scorned Wayne, mostly for his conservative political views, and I never saw his 1968 pro-Vietnam War movie, The Green Berets. But I loved True Grit, which he made only a year later.I don't remember ever watching any of Wayne's old cowboy movies from the 1930s, but I've made up for lost time in the past two days. Just one look at Kate Hudson, Evangeline Lilly, Kelly Ripa, and Anna Paquin’s lithe limbs and you’ll be reaching for the dumbbells. How’s that for motivation?

To all the ladies and men out there who find themselves up against the clock of aging, seeing all those facial lines and creases appearing out of nowhere – it is time to fight back! It said, “May the bluebird of happiness…..crap all over your birthday cake!” That was over 40 years ago, and maybe we should update the message to appeal to today’s audience. ” May the nightingale of the Bronx…..crap all over your face!” They can, and do now, in spas across the Nation- and it will cost you $180 to have it happen.

According to Inside Edition, Tom Cruise underwent Invisalign to straighten up his midline. Apparently, he went to his child’s orthodontist and was told that HE needed braces. Well Tom, like any successful businessman, just couldn’t sacrifice his image. After all, his stunning smile got him pretty far in life. Invisalign tickled his fancy, though, and he was sold. Cher, Diana Ross, and the late Michael Jackson also underwent orthodontic therapy, says the Inside Edition anchor.
Other stars who’ve undergone noticeable cosmetic dentistry include Hilary Duff, who got whiter and bigger; George Clooney, who got whiter with a more uniform edge; Zac Efron and Nicolas Cage, who had big diastemas that are no longer in existence; and Miley Cyrus who had work done, but could use some more. Recently, there have been a few Blisstree posts about baby names (What Not to Name Your Kid, Crowdsourcing, Bad Baby Names), and, given my own sordid baby-naming history, I have to join the conversation. Seven years ago, we gave our very sweet little girl a very wrong name. Okay, so it wasn’t Tu Morrow (born of Rob Morrow) or Fifi Trixibell (born of Bob Geldof). In fact, there was nothing inherently wrong with the name itself. It was pretty actually. (Just please don’t make me say it). But it was wrong. Wrong. Wrong. And so we changed it.
Truth is, we had been pretty smug about our baby-naming skills. While some insist that whatever name you choose, a child will grow into it, as a kid I couldn’t even name a kitten or a puppy ...

Haiti needs you, global warming needs you, child hunger needs you, and so do the whales. But how do you know where to put your money? Just follow the stars.
These days, there’s hardly a celebrity who doesn’t have a cause. Promoting non-profit organizations seems part and parcel of being on the big screen (or the little one, for that matter). Sienna Miller is one of the latest to join the ranks of starlets for a cause, working to raise money for Haiti as Global Ambassador for International Medical Corps (watch her pitch, below).

If you actually listen to what she’s saying, it’s no different from what you might read in the paper, on a .org website, or a pamphlet sent in the mail. But it’s in a pretty package, and if you want your hair to look like hers, well th...

I will admit I am reality TV show junkie. As I type this, I’m watching an episode of MTV’s “True Life” while anxiously awaiting the season finale of Bravo’s “Kell on Earth.” Due to my obsession with – er, interest in – this influential genre, I keep up with the happenings of its stars (purely for research purposes, of course).
After making a tiny ripple in the reality TV pond with her appearance on MTV’s “Laguna Beach,” Heidi Montag moved on to “The Hills.” And while The Montag’s fame has waxed and waned, she has found inventive ways to keep her irrelevance surprisingly relevant.
There have been many media manifestations of Montag and her husband, Spencer Pratt (j...

Mommies-to-be spend countless hours browsing baby books and websites to figure out how they should address their kid for the rest of their life. After all, some research suggests that a child’s name can really impact their life growing up. Sure, it was weird for Gwyneth Paltrow to dub her daughter Apple, or Anne Heche to anoint her son Atlas, but they don’t even come close to making our list of the five worst baby names.

Ladies, be careful of the sloppy kisser!
I’ve been researching kissing a great deal recently. Scientists know that locking lips causes an upswing in oxytocin - (which is released during orgasm too) and we thought perhaps that influenced sexual behavior. But now we think it’s the testosterone in man’s spit that causes women to want to take their clothes off! That’s right, there is measurable testosterone in saliva, and other dischargable fluids – and it is thought that sloppy kisses may indeed be a way for a man to increase a women’s sex drive!
But that isn’t the only danger!

As written in wikipedia, "Break a leg" is a well-known saying in theatre which means "good luck." It is typically said to actors and musicians before they go out onto stage to perform.I doubt, however, that anyone would say this to Sally Field before filming one of her BONIVA TV commercials. BONIVA, after all, is a drug designed to PREVENT bone fractures in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis. Actually, the patient information page (on Genentech's site) linked to from the BONIVA Web site says "Boniva helps reverse bone loss in most women who take it, even though they won't be able to see or feel a difference. Boniva may help lower the chances of breaking bones (fractures)."The part about preventing broken bones, however, is merely conjecture propagated by the marketers of BONIVA.
Since 1999, I’ve been attending the SXSW interactive conference off and on over the years. This year’s SXSWi conference (one leg of the annual three-leg SXSW interactive, film and music festival) was in some ways no different than in years past, but in other ways, way different (with its highest attendance yet — somewhere between 13,000 and 14,000 people). Here are a few tidbits of random insights from this year’s conference outing.
1. Keynotes are Key
Conference-goers look forward to the keynotes. They are, by definition, the highlight of the day and sometimes of the entire conference. Keynotes cannot just be individuals promoting their own work, product or company (and believing the audience can generalize from this usually very-unique set of experiences). They ne...

I love my husband, but he’s not my soulmate.
Not that anyone else is, either. I’m not looking around or anything. Why not? Because I don’t believe soulmates exist.
I’m pretty sure this long-held belief makes me unromantic, but I’m also pretty sure it’s the reason I have a solid marriage.
Five years ago, on a sunny spring Saturday outside my parents’ home, my wedding vows went something like this: “Hi there. So, I don’t believe that people are “meant to be together.” I also don’t think there’s only one person in the world for you, and if you don’t find that person you’ll never be happy. I’m not into destiny. I’m into choice. You choose the person you want to be with…and ...

Entertainment Tonight recently reported that TV and music star Marie Osmond’s 18-year-old son, Michael Blosil, committed suicide last Friday in Los Angeles. In his suicide note, he described a life-long battle with depression, the reason for his suicide.
Osmond said Michael became depressed after she and her ex-husband, Brian Blosil, separated, and that he entered rehab in November 2007.
According to suicide.org, a teen takes his or her own life every 100 minutes. Suicide is the third-leading cause of death for young people ages 15 to 24. Approximately 20 percent of teens experience depression before they reach adulthood, and between 10 to 15 percent suffer from symptoms at any one time. Only 30 percent of depressed teens are being treated for it.Some teens are more at risk for teen ...

When Tiger Woods held a press conference last Friday to explain where he’s at in his life, I got this feeling that we were looking into someone’s personal and private life in a manner that felt a little silly. After all, what business is it of ours — the public — what this sports celebrity does in his personal life?
Then again, one could apply the same logic to virtually any celebrity and our seemingly-endless obsession with following the private lives and failings of celebrities. Entire print publications and weekly magazines are devoted to the following of celebrities’ lives, as well as popular websites like TMZ.com.
We love to follow other people’s lives — it takes our minds off of our own mundane (and often less-than-ideal) existence. It explai...

Mel Gibson - Some celebrities would benefit from a sober companion

In general, I don't like the way the press reports the cancer diagnoses of famous people.

I've written about this before, so no need to rehash it here, but this article gives a very interesting look back at breast cancer diagnoses among well-known women, more often than not political wives, including several first ladies.

The news hook for the story is the breast cancer diagnosis of Teresa Heinz, wife of 2004 presidential candidate John Kerry.

Not movie stars and athletes. Instead, business leaders are found to be the most persuasive when it comes to endorsing a product, according to an AdweekMedia/Harris Poll. Unfortunately, there was no specific breakdown to say whether this included folks who run Wall Street firms, big banks or hedge funds (although they certainly have persuasive powers over some members of Congress).
In any event, business leaders had the highest “most persuasive” vote at 37 percent, followed by athletes with 21 percent, TV and movie stars at 18 percent, singers and musicians with 14 percent and former political figures scoring 10 percent, AdWeek writes. In fact, former politicians were “least persuasive,” garngering 39 percent of the vote. TV and movie stars notched 23 percent, follo...

Garlic has long been used as a spice and has been reported to possess medicinal and pharmacological properties. Several studies have indicated that garlic can lower blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol, but what is really exciting is what it can raise! Indeed! Testosterone and the body parts (ED) that need it are raised when you take Garlic.

I just saw the headlines about Patrick Swayze's death from pancreatic cancer, and all I can think about it how miserably the tabloids behaved during Swayze's illness--running photos of a gaunt Swayze in a wheelchair, reporting that the actor was at death's door shortly after he was diagnosed, and more. Pancreatic cancer is a tough cancer to treat--my father lived only six months from the time he was diagnosed with this type of cancer. That was more than 30 years ago, but the prognosis is often not much better today. Swayze lived 20 months--which shows how tough he was.I don't want to draw any lessons from Swayze's death, because that's one of my soapboxes: I think the media, both mainstream and the trash tabloids, are way over the line in their coverage ...

Michelle Malkin beat me to this story, but it bears repeating. So too does the accompanying video, especially at about the 3:15 mark. This is almost certainly not analogous to what the president will ask for in his address to students, but as you read the guidance given to schools by the U.S. Department of Education, it seems a heck of a lot closer than anyone should ever be comfortable with.
George Clooney Breaks His Hand

Alright, George Clooney fans out there, time to get your get well cards and positive energy flowing. Turns out George broke his hand while staying at his pad in Italy. I know what you’re thinking… will he still be able to wave to the fans?

Yes. His doctor joked that he was giving George “30-40 years more to live, and no live animals were harmed during the wrapping of the hand.” (Sounds like George had just the right doctor to suit his personality, doesn’t it?)
Rumors fly that perhaps George broke his hand while riding a motorcycle (because he did have that accident a couple years ago where his cycle collided with a car), but it turns out George simply closed the car on his hand.
Ouch!
We’re sending out our love, Mr. Clooney!

Many know Dominick Dunne from his crime essays in Vanity Fair magazine, or from his bestselling novels. Dunne died today of cancer. He was 83.
Dunne had been to the same clinic in Germany that Farrah Fawcett attended before her death. He was receiving stem cell treatments in a clinic in Bavaria.

Dunne caught the public’s attention with his articles about crime and famous people, such as O.J. Simpson and the Menendez brothers. He had just finished one final novel entitled Too Much Money.

News came down today that Michael Jackson officially died from an overdose of propofol. This wasn’t a huge surprise, but now that more information from the autopsy has been released, it does confirm what officials had originally believed. It also gives them more incentive to talk to Michael Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray.

Murray gave a statement that confirmed he had been giving Jackson medication to help with insomnia for as long as six weeks prior to the singer’s death. He said “each night he gave Jackson 50 mg of propofol, also known as Diprivan, diluted with the anesthetic lidocaine via an intravenous drip.”
He was concerned that Jackson was becoming addicted to the drug, and tried to wean him off of it by combining the drug with different types of medic...

What’s the most fun you can have on your birthday? A big party with friends? Quiet dinner with a few friends? For Brody Jenner, it was having surgery. (Of course, I don’t know how fun it was!)

Jenner had his appendix removed on the morning of his 26th birthday. The devastatingly gorgeous actor has a regular role on the Hills. He’s also the son of Olympian (and step-dad to Kim Kardashian) and songwriter Linda Thompson.
A full and speedy recovery is expected.

Not only humans, but fish can’t escape the rise in mercury, and I’m not talking about the temperature; but the rise in contamination from the methyl form of the element. Basking in the summer heat (and looking at Miranda) can make you a bit looney, but methylmercury ingested or inhaled can make you severely impaired mentally and physically. (never clean up a broken thermometer with unprotected skin, and never “play” with or handle the mercury drops.)

Fast Twitch vs. Slow Twitch Muscle Fibers
There are two types of skeletal muscle fibers. Fast fibers, which use sugars for fuel and do not require oxygen, kick in for tasks that require maximum force and quick action, such as sprinting. Slow fibers, which employ oxygen-using (or aerobic) pathways, power activities that require endurance, such as long-distance running. A protein called alpha-actinin-3 is made mostly by fast fibers and is implicated in their capacity for rapid force gen...

Algae makes you feel good inside and on the outside too! But, it can be really stinky!
A new carotenoid has received much attention lately – astaxanthin. It would be what’s known as a vitamin light- chemically, astaxanthin is classified as a non-provitamin A. It is a fat-soluble nutrient and excellent antioxidant. The richest source of astaxanthin by far is the algae Haemococcus pluvialis. In skin treatment salons, algae is not only an exfoliant that cleans pores and scrubs off dead skin, but acts as a prime source of dermal nutrients.
This dietary supplement is a therapeutic tool for a variety of conditions and diseases, including heart disease, immune problems, inflammation states, and neuro-degenerative issues – such as dementia. When compar...

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith has been airlifted to a hospital after falling during a performance at the Sturgis Rally in South Dakota. The 61-year old singer has suffered minor head, neck, and should injuries. It’s too early to say what the extent of his injuries are.

Someone posted this video on YouTube, and the fall does look pretty serious to me. To just do a turn and lose your footing off of stage like that has to be pretty traumatic. Here’s the clip (the fall is about halfway through the video):

We wish Steven well and hope he recovers quickly.

Rush Limbaugh Loses 90 Pounds

The web is buzzing these days about the huge weight loss Rush Limbaugh is sporting. He’s lost 90 pounds in a relatively short time, and will say nothing other than the fact that he’s used the Quick Weight Loss Center to get the job done.

He says he’s on 1500 calories a day, but doesn’t talk about how much exercise he’s been doing. Anytime one of these celebs talks about fast weight loss I get a little nervous because it can easily give the wrong impression that losing weight is easy and quick. Lasting weight loss takes some time.
I hope he’ll open up a bit more about his efforts as time goes on. I also hope he is not just losing weight but getting healthier.

I was working as a journalist in Tokyo when Corazon Aquino--the widow of an opposition leader gunned down by Dictator Marcos--led a "people power" revolt in 1986 that swept her into the presidency, and I've been a fan ever since. So I was saddened to read that Aquino has died of colon cancer, the same disease that killed my older brother. She was 76. I never got to go to the Philippines to cover Aquino, or the fall from grace of the Marcoses, whose regime was propped up by the United States for decades. "Better the dictator you know ..." seems to have been the U.S. government's attitude toward Marcos. The hottest ticket in town was the tour of Imelda Marcos' shoe closet, and I remember listening in envy to stories told by the Tokyo-based reporters...

Everything and I mean everything seems to be virtual and wireless these days - including, thanks to this iPhone application, even cemeteries.
I’m not too sure what to make of it really. The Pocket Cemetery lets you create virtual memories using cusomizable tombstones and cemetery plots with pictures, bios, and favorite memories.
And it doesn’t have to be just for your family. You can memorialize anyone, including celebrities and pets. You can even put virtual flowers and personalized messages can be placed on graves.
Given that family members are often spread around the world and can‘t always get home, this might not be such a bad idea.

.
According to creator Wayne Perry, fans of Michael Jackson also think it’s a good idea. He’s received numerous requests for pre-release versi...

On Friday morning, before the first autopsy on Michael Jackson had been completed, I wrote an article in these pages to explain just what an autopsy is, why it’s done, and what we could expect from it (I’m a former medical examiner and a board-certified forensic pathologist). As I predicted, the initial examination of his body with the naked eye, which is called the “gross” examination, was inconclusive, in part because further tests, which take days to complete under any circumstances, were required. These tests include the microscopic examination of small samples of each of the organs as well as toxicology tests of the stomach contents, blood, bile and urine. The toxicology tests look for the presence or absence any chemicals including prescription drugs, recrea...

It’s been a rough week in the entertainment world, with the loss of three stars in music, Hollywood and television. With the passing of Michael Jackson (music, mostly in the 1980s), Farrah Fawcett (movies), and Ed McMahon (The Tonight Show and Star Search), the world has lost some significant talent. Each, in their own way, contributed something special and unique to their field.
You couldn’t have grown up in the 1980s and not been affected by Michael Jackson’s music (regardless of whether you liked him or not, doubtless one of your friends or girlfriend/boyfriend did). The later recriminations against Michael Jackson and his alleged interest in young boys no doubt will tarnish his otherwise popular rock career. Farrah Fawcett was, for better or worse, an icon of female ...

When any person dies suddenly or unexpectedly it becomes the responsibility of the medical examiner to determine the cause of death. Such is the case in the tragic death of Michael Jackson at the all too young age of 50. When I worked as a medical examiner in Washington, D.C., in the early 1980s, our policy was to automatically do a full autopsy investigation on anyone 50 or under regardless of their medical history. Over 50 and we might waive the autopsy if there were a clear medical history of illness or disease and there were absolutely no suspicious circumstances, as investigated by the homicide unit of the D.C. police force.
Of course it goes without saying that for someone like Michael Jackson, who died suddenly at age 50 yesterday without any obvious cause, that a full scale investi...

Several news reports have confirmed that Michael Jackson had died. The pop star had been taken to the hospital, where he remained in a coma. He suffered cardiac arrest and passed away. He was only 50.

Jackson was with the pop group the Jackson Five as a kid, and then went on to become one of the most popular recording acts of all time. He is survived by his large extended family and three children.

I admit that I sometimes ask tough questions that takes my pharmaceutical friends a long time to answer. One such question involves GSK, PhRMA, and celebrities. My question is: Where's the transparency? (For a partial answer, please read through to the end for a follow-up.)I would not have asked that question if GSK had not raised the issue itself in its More Than Medicine Blog (see "Patients, Celebrities and Pharma"). In that post "Michael F" recommends the Sharing Miracles website sponsored by PhRMA's Partnership for Prescription Assistance. It's "a forum for people to relate their own stories of hope and survival," according to Michael F.On the site, you will read inspirational stories from Mike Ditka, Dominique Wilkins, Naomi Judd, Joey Pantoliano, etc.Michael F also mentions that "GSK...

Like many of you, I’m still finding my way around the Everyday Health Web site. There are nooks and crannies of hidden treasures and mounds of health information at every turn. It’s kind of like moving to a new neighborhood; you never seem to have time to simply explore, you just find what you need as you need it. Therefore I decided I would do some serious exploring the other day and became intrigued to see a photo of “one of us” in the corner of one of the pages and had to investigate further.
Many of you know that actress, comedian, writer Teri Garr has been living with multiple sclerosis for several years. Her book, Speedbumps; Flooring It Through Hollywood, was published several years ago and is a very good read (even if you don’t have MS).

Hospital Fined for Leaking Suleman Records

I’ve said it about a million times before. I think being famous would stink. Especially when you’re sick. With the recent report that one hospital leaked records from Farrah Fawcett’s recent medical stay is just one example. Now, Kaiser Permanente’s Bellflower Hospital has been fine $250,000 for “failing to keep employees from snooping in the medical records of Nadya Suleman.”

While I think it’s a great idea that a hospital can be fined when their employees snoop into medical records, it’s an even bigger threat when that employee decides to sell that information to the tabloids. I know we all have a fascination for the lives of celebrities, but people deserve their privacy.

Happy 14th Birthday, Psych Central!

So here we are, 14 years later after Psych Central first went online in 1995. And what a great 14 years it’s been! If you had asked me 14 years ago, “Hey, John, will this little dinky mental health website still be around 14 years from now?” I would’ve guessed “No.” Of course, I would’ve been happily wrong.
The latest stats out from Media Metrix/Comscore shows that Psych Central reaches as many people each month as the British Medical Journal, the famed Mayo Clinic, and even our friends over at the American Psychological Association. But we’re not stopping — we’re experiencing one of the best growth rates for sites in our niche — mental health & psychology — and will continue to provide you with an interesting an...

I'm not going to buy a copy of the National Enquirer in order to show you the picture the rag has on its cover--supposedly a 100-or-so pound Patrick Swayze ... but I am going to take a few minutes here to voice my outrage. I'm not surprised. I admit that. Every time I think these rags have hit a new low, they go even lower. But it hurts me all the way down to my bones that the National Enquirer would do this.
It’s been a while since we had a celebrity feature in this blog. It’s not that we lack celebrities who are also health advocates. It’s just that there are so many other heart(y) topics to write about.
But with the heart month coming to an end, I would like to feature Jane Krakowski, star of the Emmy-award winning comedy “30 Rock” as our heart(y) celebrity for March.
An accomplished Tony-winning actress, dancer and singer who’s been pouring her heart into her craft since age 16, Jane is most inspired to advocate for women’s heart health by the strong women she works with every day. In fact, she is a long-time supporter of The Heart Truth, having walked in the Red Dress Collection 2007 Fashion Show in support of women’s heart health.

I didn't get it on video, but I got her to talk about crack.
What a day! Even if I was a d-list celebrity with luggage from Kenya, and facial filler from Australia, ripping off Kathy Griffin shtick (and I apologize not after she ripped Oprah off by naming a school after herself in Mexico with the wording and plaque exactly the same as hers), I do have very d-list limitations.
For starters, my feet are a mess and walking for miles and miles (48 hours here and I’m using imperial, how American) is difficult to do. Yesterday we decided to do a tacky tourist day today.
I’ve really never been a tourist. I’ve spent a lot of time in NYC, and when here it was if I was living here, and there were excesses.
Today’s excesses were in bad taste rather than bad judgement and easy money.

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are the worst people in the world. They are famous for no reason other than mommy and/or daddy’s money. They act like children, treat others like dirt, and deserve a fate worse than death.
On October 22nd, Spencer made news for toting a shotgun, drinking Budweiser, and wearing a “Palin for VP - God Guns Glory” t-shirt. Montag sat next to him on a park bench wearing a shirt that said, “Read my Lipstick, Vote McCain-Palin.” You can see a detailed version HERE.
Then we had an election. Their pony list by a score of 365 to 173 (And almost 10 million votes). To clean off the stench of failure, they got drunk and eloped in Mexico. Unfortunately, their wedding was just pretend and not legal here in the states. They went to a courthouse ...

Ted Kennedy: Terminal Cancer or Incurable Cancer?

When Senator Ted Kennedy was first diagnosed with a brain tumor last year, I didn't read beyond the headlines. Why?The headlines told me all I wanted to know, and I knew if I read further, I'd just get mad. The way the mainstream press reports the cancer diagnoses of famous people makes me very angry, and I get especially angry at the people who chime in with advice for the famous person with cancer, as Rush Limbaugh did when Elizabeth Edwards' cancer came back. (See: Rush Limbaugh and Elizabeth Edwards)But then, after Kennedy suffered a seizure at the inauguration, I confess, I read some of the stories, and that made me wonder why Kennedy was being treated with chemotherapy. (See: Ted Kennedy: One Thing Is Bugging Me) We've answered that question, I think...

At least they cropped her hoo-haa out.
The other night I got a surprise with, “Hey I saw you and your little Hildy in FAB today, but everyone says that you’ve been in there for awhile.”
I knew that my “HIV-larious (not sure that’s what I would have called it, nonetheless attention grabbing) was coming soon, as in February. My real excitement achieved another small step towards the fame she deserves. She’s had many achievements during her first five months, but I couldn’t let her hit seven months before taking on at least one new media: print.
It won’t be long where I’ll live off her fame, as my role model in all of this is Dina Lohan. Fortunately, I can’t say that of Britney’s mother. Little Hildy will be spayed next month, so no unwed, and unwanted pregnancies.

My general attitude toward celebrities who are diagnosed with cancer is that the media should just leave them alone, and not take the opportunity to tell us, and them, and the rest of the world, how these celebrities SHOULD handle their cancer.See my post on Elizabeth Edwards, and you'll see what I mean.Having said that, the news yesterday that Senator Ted Kennedy collapsed at the inauguration certainly caught my attention. And I couldn't help worrying about him. But then, as I'm reading the news reports, I read that Kennedy, who was diagnosed last spring with a brain tumor, was treated with surgery, radiation, and CHEMOTHERAPY. The question that is bugging me is, "Why chemo?" Because I've always been told that chemo doesn't work for brain tumors, whethe...

It’s almost twenty-four hours of Buster’s poo protest. He’s not happy with the winter and he just doesn’t want to do it.
The only thing I can to do is wait until he starts to shake to the core and I know he’s desperate and then get home out.
I’m so excited now that my plans to see Kathy Griffin with my friend are coming to fruition. That is, after I got over the sticker shock of the lower Canadian dollar. My money exchanging headspace was still back a few months ago when it was much higher. So tack on another 90 bucks on an already expensive ticket, plus 41 dollars to get the bloody things delivered.
Now tell me, if I can print out my Casino Rama tickets to see Donna Summer way the f. out by Orillia, then why the f. can’t the Madison Square Gardens provide the same service.

Size does matter according to John Coates, the author of a stock trading study. He found that men with longer ring fingers relative to their index fingers seem to be better at high-stakes, fast-paced stock trading as compared to those whose index finger was almost as long as their ring finger. Honestly. I’m not making this up. Researchers gathered together 44 male stock traders working in high finance arenas making quick decisions with large amounts of money and measured their right hands. The study then followed these traders for the next 20 months and discovered that those whose ring fingers were much longer than their index fingers made 11 times more money than those with the shortest ring fingers. Does this mean that if I’m looking for a stocktrader, I need to look at his h...

Yesterday, on another social marketing front, I finally joined Twitter. Honestly I when I heard of Twitter, I thought, “F. not something that now reduces everything to ten bloody words now.”
As it turns out it’s a great marking tool, and a means to get information out fast. In less than 24 hours I’ve got over 200 followers.
This is my bio: A D-List AIDS Celebrity who’s own “Make A Wish Foundation” is trying to make his come true: Meet Kathy Griffin.
It’s only a one-line bio – so that’s the best I can do. When I start adding all these straights folks, I’m never sure what kind of reaction I’ll get. It seems people are pretty cool.
Interesting enough, I’ve been asked to do an interview for sometime in February. as he liked my work.

The issue of transparency is getting a lot of attention these days – and it’s not just due to the financial revelations from the likes of Bernie Madoff and B. Ramalinga Raju. Thought leaders from Barack Obama to Israeli public affairs consul David Saranga, (leading an effort to use Twitter to answer the public’s questions about the crisis in Gaza) to my own boss Richard Edelman, are teaching us that openness, while not a salvo, is a key ingredient in healing the world’s ills.

But what about when it comes to real illness -- personal battles with disease? I wonder what right to know the public has. Certainly, in the business of health, transparency is essential and un-debatable; but is personal health transparency different, and if so, how?

Makes me realize that I am a celebrity e...

In many ways, we’re sad to see 2008 go. We passed some great milestones during the year here at Psych Central, including topping 80,000 members in our collective communities and reaching more people through our website than in any previous year. We started our first two new blogs — Bipolar Beat and Celebrity Psychings — which have both already been great successes.
As much as I’m sad to see the year go, I’m excited for the possibilities that 2009 brings. We’ll be rolling out a few more new blogs in 2009, carefully finding insightful and interesting writers who understand how to really tackle mental health topics head-on in a positive manner. We’ll be integrating more of our services and working to make things simpler and easier to access. We&#821...

According to recent reports, Peter Falk (81), the famed Columbo of the TV series by that name, supposedly has Alzheimer’s. His daughter has filed for conservatorship of him and mentioned that her father no longer recognizes various people. Falk also is recovering from hip surgery
A court hearing on the conservatorship is set for late January. We’ll see how it all plays out.

We’re excited and happy to announce the addition of a new blog to the Psych Central family. Joining our popular blog on bipolar disorder, Bipolar Beat, our new blog is called Celebrity Psychings and is written by freelance writer, Alicia Sparks.
You may recognize that name, as Alicia was the author behind the blog, Mental Health Notes. I was an avid reader of Mental Health Notes and recognized that Alicia is a great writer, so I asked her to come on over to Psych Central to write for us. After some discussion, it became clear that she’s very interested in the intersection of mental health and celebrities, because celebrities have the ability to reach an audience who ordinarily might not even think about (or recognize the legitimacy of) mental health concerns.
	While we&#8217...

Airbrushing, the process of manipulating a photograph to hide flaws and create a better image, is nothing new. In fact, photo manipulation has been around for a long time. One of the earliest manipulated photos is a famous image of President Lincoln — in reality, a composite of Lincoln’s head on another politician’s body.
Politicians always have interfered with images, wielding their power to rewrite history, purge opponents from pictures and promote their own agenda. How funny that today it’s used to make stars flawless, more glamorous, thinner and less like us (i.e., human).
Airbrushing has gone from the crude use of the digital wand — with images like that of Oprah in 1989’s TV Guide when her head was fused with another actress’s body (available at the same site as the...

On Thursday, BrainBlogger posted an interesting entry that delves into the research regarding “celebrity worship,” which includes probably a lot more Americans than most people realize.

Much research has been conducted about who engages in celebrity worship and what drives the compulsion. Celebrity worship for purely entertainment purposes likely reflects an extraverted personality and is most likely a healthy past time for most people. This type of celebrity worship involves harmless behaviors such as reading and learning about a celebrity. Intense personal attitudes towards celebrities, however, reflect traits of neuroticism. The most extreme descriptions of celebrity worship exhibit borderline pathological behavior and traits of psychoticism. This type of celebrity worshi...

Overall Barack Obama’s campaign has

a larger, more comprehensive presence
more followers or subscribers on the social media websites
more interaction with those followers
much greater results in search engines
This is in spite of John McCain being a big political celebrity FAR longer than Barack Obama was. John McCain was first elected to congress in 1982, and even before McCain ran in 2008, other than George Bush, McCain was probably the best known, most interviewed, and most written about Republican politician.
Did you know that more than five million children and adults in North America wear braces ?
For them, Halloween season can be a dangerous time. The hard, chewy, sticky or crunchy candy usually handed out can easily result in damaged or broken braces, a painful and costly experience.
So what’s a brace wearing trick or treater to do?
Well, according to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), people with braces should steer clear of these traditional halloween treats…
 * All hard candies
 * All chewy candies
 * Caramel
 * Nuts
 * Licorice
 * Taffy
 * Jelly beans
 * Hard pretzels
 * Bubblegum
 * Popcorn (including unpopped kernels)
 * Taco chips
 * Ice
Instead they should aim for braces-friendly Halloween treats such as soft chocolate candy, peanut ...

As much as I try to avoid celebrity talk on Dental Heroes(plenty of other blogs for that, right?), I couldn’t pass up telling you about a quiz I just found on the ABC News website called, “Guess the Celebrity Smile”.
Just as the name of the quiz implies, you’re asked to match celebrity smiles with the proper celebrity. The quiz takes about 5 minutes, so it won’t take up too much of your time. I just took it and scored an 8 out of 10. Guess I need to start reading my tabloids…err…maybe not.

Buprenex rehab can only be effective if it’s aimed at every facet of Buprenex addiction. On its face, that principle seems obvious. After all, addiction is a holistic disease, and addiction recovery must be a holistic process. But the unfortunate truth is that too many Buprenex rehabs in Los Angeles make the mistake of emphasizing one dimension of treatment while ignoring the others. In the end, that isn’t a recipe for anything but failure.
Buprenex addicts are sick in body as well as in mind. Buprenex rehab, then, must promote both physical and psychological healing. A Buprenex rehab facility that fails to acknowledge that much does a tremendous disservice to its clients and their families. For your own sake, don’t make yourself learn that lesson the hard way.
Remember when beloved Cheers and Frasier star Kelsey Grammer had a ’small’ heart attack last month. Well, he is back in the hospital. It is so scary. Even for celebrities- remember they are real people as well. He had just come out last week and stated how scary his heart attack was. Mr. Grammer said that he almost died and that his heart actually stopped and needed to be hit twice to revive him.
Television star Kelsey Grammer is back in hospital with an irregular heartbeat, two months after suffering a heart attack the actor has said nearly killed him.

Celebrity Rehab-a media frenzy

Celebrity rehab isn’t just for celebrities. On the contrary, the celebrity rehabs that get so much attention in the mainstream media are open to any individual willing to make the commitment to a long-term rehab program. If you want help, it’s out there. If you’re willing to take the first step, you really can get where you need to go.

Don’t wait any longer to finally find that out on your own terms....
