I mentioned recently that I'm doing some part-time work with the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation's Diabetes Diplomats program. One really fun campaign that launched on Monday is "Be Part of the Cure". It's a HUGE photo collage that will literally spell the word "CURE" and will hang within the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami. With a minimum $10 donation, people can upload a photo or image, along with a paragraph talking about the picture, or how diabetes touches their lives. At the website, you can zoom in and see all of the individual pictures, and if you click on a picture you can see details and read their story.I donated yesterday and uploaded a picture. My image landed inside the "U" (left hand side, inner edge). The zoom contr...

A good photograph is knowing where to stand. ~Ansel Adams {As in life and attitude … ~SG}
Although I am enjoying the inspiration and accountability of the Art Every Day Month {gentle} challenge, I have yet to get into a rhythm of steps. Such as: posting and linking with the group. However, it is encouraging that said reality is a complete non-issue for me.
Today’s {aRt} was collage journaling and photography of said journaling. In fact, that is the practice I have granted {Art Every Day} status. The host for this practice is a new bound journal with lined pages — in which I also incorporate daily to-do notations {and other randomisms}.
Having these key elements of my planning process in one place allows me to feel artful as well as productive! (Source: The Dessert Years . . ...

While life has been fabulous and busy and joy-filled, eclectic and exciting and new … It has also finally settled down from the racetrack pace of the past two months. Thus the mundane and routine (same thing?) resume. And I become prayerful to ask for a steadfast spirit.
Distraction is something I deal with regularly.
The image I included was captured during a particularly crazy afternoon that included car repair, a hail storm and a miscommunication {of epic proportions} with one of my sons. And, as is my habit, I clicked pics to pass the time and keep myself focused on moving through said afternoon.
I employ {a creative methodology} to ensure perseverance doesn’t completely slip away. It involves {cue cards} and {collage journaling} and {planning calendars} and {accountabili...

Family histories are written a moment at a time. Without some record {written, photographic, audio/video} the every day, the momentous and the miscellany would be forgotten — or at the very least, “mis-remembered.”
My recent family stories have been numerous and joy-full!
The birth of my first grandbaby, weddings, birth announcements, graduations and anniversaries have been marked, experienced and recorded. Each a special time and opportunity to celebrate the gift of family and the loving memories that stitch the patchwork quilt of yesterdays, today and the hopes for tomorrow! The moments, joys and words of each quilt square of the heart are pieced together with stitches of faith, commitment and love.
And sometimes on the pages of scrapbooks … When {if} we...

Today’s interview is with happiness expert Sonja Lyubomirsky, Ph.D., who is Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Riverside and the author of “The How of Happiness.” In 2002, Lyubomirsky was awarded a Templeton Positive Psychology Prize. Currently, she holds a 5-year million-dollar grant (with Ken Sheldon) from the National Institute of Mental Health to conduct research on the possibility of permanently increasing happiness. Her research has been written up in dozens of magazines and newspapers and she has appeared in multiple TV shows, radio shows, and feature documentaries in North America and Europe.
Question: I know that gratitude is one key component of happiness, and you mention keeping a gratitude journal, where you regularly write down the thing...

Dancer. Red. Joy. These words describe what is in my heart …
Change can have its moments of outrageous joy … and sheer terror! Although we learn to dance to the jazzy beats of new rhythms — said dance routines are not without their tumbles and bruises. Notes of change played together to form new compositions and routines. Even as we fumble about sometimes until — with time and practice — we refine our days and learn how to maintain order in the midst of creatively managing our days.
I have been jotting down some final notes of my latest composition. It incorporates notes and patterns I have danced to in the past; but this one is more refined and easier to dance to. Which is a good thing, since it is an extremely lively beat of sweet sixteenth notes! ...

Preserving our memories and those of Alzheimer’s patients can lead to scrapbooking fun. I led a scrapbooking activity for Alzheimer’s patients at a nursing home and think they had as much fun as I did.
With the help of an activity aide, we selected pictures taken of the residents as they engaged in various events at the home. The patients exclaimed, “That’s me!”
If they were able, they cut out the pictures and selected the colors of the background. We pasted the photos and embellishments to the pages, one or two for each resident. Then they shared with one another before we put the pages in a community scrapbook.
This is something you also can do with your Alzheimer’s patient in your home, and with children if they’re...
