There are few things in life that give us more confidence than a dazzling smile. Having a great grin boosts our morale, making us feel positive, and drawing others to us as we show off our smile. However, many people have stayed away from traditional dentistry techniques, concerned about the length of time it may take to heal after cosmetic dental work, or the pain involved with getting treatment.
Now, all this is a thing of the past, as medical advancements and dentistry have fused techniques to come up with a revolutionary new way of encouraging prompt recovery from dental work. PGRF is transforming more than just smiles – it’s the application of a cutting-edge methodology for using the body’s own capacity to heal, accelerating the recovery process dramatically.
What is PGRF?

Brookside Dental, a family-owned practice with a relaxed, spalike environment has used the laser for over five years.
THE COSMETIC DENTISTRY CHALLENGE OF FIXING A SINGLE FRONT TOOTH
Cosmetic Dentistry alteration of a single anterior tooth to give the result of a beautiful smile would appear to be a relatively easy process compared to restoring several anterior teeth to accomplish an amazing smile. One tooth should be much less challenging and time consuming than working with several front teeth. However, in fact the opposite may often be the case. Changing a single front tooth is a significant cosmetic dentistry challenge from the perspective of the cosmetic dentist. When dealing with a single anterior tooth that needs to be restored, either a porcelain veneer or a porcelain crown, the restored single tooth must match exactly or have a highly compatible relationship to the teeth surrounding teeth in all a...

BROOKSIDE DENTAL in Bellevue, Washington, along with other dentistry websites is listed on dozens of web review sites. How valuable these various review listings are is very difficult to comprehend. It seems that each day new local search sites appear on the web. Sometimes I get emails that are requesting to have advertising of our cosmetic dentistry practice on a local or national website. Other times I just find sites that have our listing and I need to go in and claim it. The obvious places that one sees their site listed in is Google Local, Yahoo Local or Bing Local. Smiling Girl with White Teeth and Red Lips
Bellevue Dentist Dr Cynthia Pauley says focus on your smile. Your mouth is a complex system and many scientists believe that gum disease can potentially influence other parts of your body and have harmful effects. Therefore, take care of yourself by focusing on your smile. If you have a vibrant and beautiful smile it indicates that you have a healthy mouth and this in turn should be good for other parts of your body. If you your smile is right, you will feel right also.

Two weeks ago, I attended the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s annual meeting in Dallas. Traffic is up, people are happy, and the positive atmosphere I noticed in January and February has continued. It’s especially good to see because there are more dentists at the AACD meeting who focus on elective procedures in their practices. The temperature showed that things in even cosmetic dentistry are looking up. When you see patients coming back for elective services, it indicates consumer confidence and a positive trend.
The one piece of technology that I saw (and had already purchased) was Discus’s new diode laser, the NV, that’s extremely small and cordless. The booth was crowded, but I took my friends over to show them because I am so pleased with my NV laser. It’s gr...

Cosmetic Tooth Movement Gives Beautiful Smiles The Cosmetic Dentists at Brookside Dental, Bellevue, WA, use removable orthodontic appliances, called Hawley Applicances, to move a limited number of teeth prior to doing veneers and crowns on anterior teeth. This limited tooth movement method is used to preserve the integrity and strength of the individual teeth by aligning the teeth, so that much less tooth structural material needs to be removed if crowns or porcelain veneers are used for a smile makeover. The limited use of removable orthodontic appliances is usually a more conservative option to veneers and crowns that are done without any orthodontic treatments.
Beautiful Cosmetic Dentistry.Cosmetic Dentistry Tax Did Not Pass In Washington StateWashington State recently proposed a sales tax on all cosmetic procedures. While this proposed tax would have mainly impacted medical doctors, it had serious implications for all family dentists in Washington State. The implementation of a retail sales tax on "cosmetic dentistry" procedures would have had terribly bad effects for patients. It would have put general Bellevue Dentists in the position of being tax experts by having to determine what would be taxable "cosmetic dental" procedures and what would not be a taxable "general dentistry" procedure. This would have been a nice cash cow the state legislators, but would have made nightmare situation for the average dentist to make such a determination. In...

According to Inside Edition, Tom Cruise underwent Invisalign to straighten up his midline. Apparently, he went to his child’s orthodontist and was told that HE needed braces. Well Tom, like any successful businessman, just couldn’t sacrifice his image. After all, his stunning smile got him pretty far in life. Invisalign tickled his fancy, though, and he was sold. Cher, Diana Ross, and the late Michael Jackson also underwent orthodontic therapy, says the Inside Edition anchor.
Other stars who’ve undergone noticeable cosmetic dentistry include Hilary Duff, who got whiter and bigger; George Clooney, who got whiter with a more uniform edge; Zac Efron and Nicolas Cage, who had big diastemas that are no longer in existence; and Miley Cyrus who had work done, but could use some more.
BELLEVUE DENTIST SUMMARIZES THE EXPANDED FUNCTIONS DENTAL ASSISTANT (EFDA) PROGRAM IN WASHINGTON STATE
Washington State in 2008 put into effect the expanded functions dental assistant (EFDA) program at three locations: Seattle Central Community College, South Puget Sound Community College, and Spokane Community College. The program is designed to give dental assistants expanded abilities in the restorative dentistry arena. The Washington State Dental Association (WSDA) was instrumental in moving the program through the state legislature by making sure the program was well understood by both dentists and legislators. Two classes of EFDAs have graduated from Seattle Central CC. The program is modeled after similar programs in the Indian Health Services, the US Army and the US Navy, which for...

The desire to have a sharp white smile has become an important issue to many people. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) has estimated that the demand for tooth whitening has increased by 300% over the past decade. Tooth whitening is the number one dental procedure requested by people under the age of 20 and between the ages of 30 and 50. Initially, tooth whitening was performed in the dentist’s office and this might require several visits. The process has become simpler and is now offered as an over the counter product allowing people to perform their own tooth whitening.
Two companies, Procter & Gamble and Colgate Palmolive, dominate the market for over the counter tooth whitening products. As of 2003, these companies had about 84% of the market. Americans spent about...

We have started working with 6 Month Smiles’ short-term orthodontics. We have in the last two months started six cases, and we’re very excited about the results. Patients are excited, too. Even though the system uses conventional orthodontic wires and brackets, because they are tooth colored, adults patients accept it because they aren’t obvious and offer treatment time that’s less than a year.
I took the 6 Month Smiles course by Dr. Ryan Swain from NY. The two-day course was perfect for my assistants and me, and it was right here in Denver. Between the flash drive information that I came home with and the course itself, I had everything necessary to get started. One thing that helped us get up and running fast is that we had Invisalign certification, so we were updated on recent o...

I tell patients that there are three things to focus on.
The first is biological issues that cause cavities or gum disease. Our first thing is to diagnose these issues. We know we can’t eliminate bacteria, but we can control it. We can create an environment that can be cleaned by the patient – smooth fillings, no deep periodontal pockets. This helps patients take care of their teeth, so they’re more likely to keep natural teeth for life.
Secondly, we must control stress or forces on teeth. There has to be harmony with jaw, muscles, and teeth to distribute forces evenly. As we move the jaws, we want no damaging lateral forces on back teeth. We must establish balance with jaw movement.
Lastly, we keep teeth looking natural for “invisible” dentistry. If a patient is unhappy with the...

Houston, TX – September 29, 2009 – ClearCorrect, Inc. recently completed a major expansion of its corporate headquarters due to the increased demand for its FDA-cleared transparent orthodontic aligners, commonly known as clear braces or invisible braces.
“We knew earlier this year that we needed to expand due to the increasing number of orthodontists and general dentists making the switch to ClearCorrect™ due to our affordability and as we do not have a minimum submission policy ,” said ClearCorrect CEO and prominent Houston cosmetic dentist, Dr. Willis Pumphrey.
The company was able to maintain its original address at 5200 Mitchelldale Street by acquiring adjacent space when it became available. “This will ensure the seamless expansion and integration of multiple departments, ...

Sophisticated cosmetic dentistry allowed Native Americans to add splash to their teeth as far back as 2,500 years ago, a new study says. Drills made of obsidian were used to embed jewels into the teeth of these ancients. I came across this very interesting article about gem-studded teeth in the Implant blog which I follow. Early Cosmetic Dentists exhibited rather amazing technical skills. Some of the ancient civilizations made false teeth by using beautifully polished abalone shells made into an elongated triangular shape that had the pointed end notched. These new notched teeth were then hammered into the jaw bone with multiple teet...

BELLEVUE DENTIST IMPLANTS
My most recent article is about Dentistry Implants. A summary is:
Dental Implants are changing how beautiful new smiles are created for people. Dental bridges used to be the standard restorative dental treatment when a tooth or two was missing and they are still used in many instances. However, people are discovering that dental implants are more comfortable and natural feeling than bridges or dentures in most cases.

A bleach-white smile doesn’t look sensational on everyone, according to a study in JADA titled, “Assessing the Influence of Skin Color and Tooth Shade Value on Perceived Smile Attractiveness.”
By altering skin tone and tooth brightness on photographs of smiling women, researchers created a way to test how people perceive beauty in regards to tooth enamel color. Seventy dentists and 70 laypeople answered questions about the photos. The findings show that skin color affects the shade that is attractive on teeth.
According to the report:
“Dentists and laypeople did not perceive the brightest tooth shade to be the most attractive, and they did not perceive all skin colors to be equally attractive with bright white teeth. Respondents perceived dark skin with bright white teeth and fair ...

This article tells us that Sageworks reports dentists have profit margins greater than accountants, legal services, and mining support services, three of the industries in the top five for profit margins. So that’s the positive side of things.

In the Baltimore Bizjournals article, Dr. Kellner of Smile Design Center in Lutherville says that patients have money, but they’re being careful about spending it. Here’s what some dentists and doctors are doing to boost business:
Promotions – Keller is offering a $199 teeth-whitening procedure, a discount of $201. Clinical Research Associates reports that ¼ or 3300 surveyed dentists now offer discounts and referral incentives. Be sure to have your promotion placed on the front page of your website.

A new study shows that a tiny amount of enamel decalcifies after application of home teeth-whitening products. Teeth can recalcify after minimal enamel loss, and fluoride assists in remineralization. So basically, the five brands of home whitener* that were evaluated are still considered safe.
What’s the point, then? The study’s findings provide reason for manufacturers to tweak home whitening systems and improve future generations of the products.

While other studies have tried and failed to measure enamel loss, this recent study by researchers at The Ohio State University measured enamel reduction to the billionth of a meter using a nanometer scale, rather than in microns, which measure to a millionth of a meter. Enamel loss ranged from 1.2 to 2 nanometers after home te...

The objective of this study was to evaluate in vitro the effect of different bleaching systems on the desktop surface morphology of the bovine dentin. Thirty fragments of teeth 4 x 4 mm, with enamel and dentin, were produced from crowns of extracted bovine incisors. The samples were subjected to simulated using conventional bleaching intracoronal (Endo and Endo Opalescence Super Whiteness) and systems activated by light (Opalescence Xtra and Whiteness HP Maxx). The controls were treated with sodium perborate mixed with 10% hydrogen peroxide, bleach or not. The samples were observed in SEM and recorded images were evaluated for topographical changes. The ultrastructural changes of dentine observed in this study are very different between the groups depending on the product used. PH superior...

BELLEVUE COSMETIC DENTISTRY BONDING GIVES A BEAUTIFUL SMILE
Cosmetic Dental bonding is done with a composite resin material that is used to fix various dental problems. The composite bonding material can be used to fix some breaks, cracks and chips on teeth and some spaces between teeth called diastemas. If the tooth imperfections or spaces are large, bonding may not be an option, in which case porcelain veneers or crowns may be required to give a good cosmetic result.

Anterior Dental Bonding was used to create this beautiful smile. Patient of Dr Patricia Pauley, Brookside Dental, Bellevue, WA

BEAUTIFUL SMILES NOTICED FIRST
Teeth and a Beautiful Smile are among the first things noticed by a stranger, much of the time. However, it depends on whether women or men are being observed. The face and head, along with the body, are perceived differently by men and women. This is according to a recent study by the Baluke Dental Studios and published in Gallery Dental Smile Designs by Patient News Publishing 2009. Therefore, this is very recent information about how a smile is perceived by people.
WOMEN have their eyes noticed first by men according to the survey. The Smile and Teeth were the second thing about women that was noticed by men. ...

A survey by the ADA, Crest, and Oral B– just in time for Valentine’s Day – tells us that a person’s smile is the most appealing feature over eyes, hair, and body. You may recall a similar survey by the AACD that showed a great smile makes a person seem more intelligent and attractive. So it’s not news, true. However, the recent survey provides some additional information that could help you in your dental practice marketing…
The survey says…
• 86% of women and only 66% of men brush their teeth twice daily
• Women change toothbrushes every 3 to 4 months; men wait 5 months
• 49% of people floss daily
• 33% think bleeding while flossing is normal
Brushing twice daily and flossing once is important – you know this, but do your patients practice it? Do they know t...

Like the handsome men in the five photographs below, men in general are able to acquire significantly attractive smiles with various Cosmetic Dentistry procedures. In addition to the increased physical attractiveness resulting from Cosmetic Dental work, men with an outgoing personality are going to become even more outgoing after their smiles are altered or changed. They will, like women, most likely have better personal lives and better work opportunities subsequent to having cosmetic dental work done.
Results of the 2007 British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry audit show that our English neighbors across the pond really like their cosmetic dentistry. The BACD is a non-profit organization that promotes ethics and advancements in cosmetic dentistry. The long and short of the audit:

Female patients accounted for over half of all cosmetic dentistry cases.
Orthodontics is up 345%! This includes clear braces and traditional ortho. Removable braces make up over half of the cases.
Veneer cases held steady, but the number of male cases increased.

From most popular to least popular, cosmetic dentistry procedures fall in this order: white fillings; crowns, inlays, onlays; veneers; whitening; bridges; implants; orthodontics; gum contouring.

Every general dentist offers some form of cosmetic dentistry, whether composite fillings and white crowns or various forms of veneers, orthodontics, and whitening. Some cosmetic dentists stretch their esthetic services beyond the confines of dentistry. These guys and gals offer laser skin therapy, Botox, and dermal filler injections to patients who want more

An article by Dr. Larry Emmott in August 20008’s Dental Products Review covers eight high-tech tools that you should be using for case presentation. Here’s a list of some of Dr. Emmott’s recommendations, along with notes from DentalBlogs:

Digital Intraoral & Extraoral Cameras – Find comparisons of cameras at www.dentalcompare.com or read www.emmottonotechnology.com for more info on digital cameras.
Image Management Software & Slide Show & Multimedia Presentation Capability – You must be able to store, retrieve, and present your digital photo album. Some photo management software also allows for creating multimedia presentation, and image manipulation software will let you digitally enhance photos to preview potential cosmetic dentistry results.

Survey Says Metal Braces Yield Best Results

While metal bracketed orthodontic braces were voted the least attractive teeth straightening appliance, they are also considered the most effective. Clear brackets, lingual brackets, and clear orthodontic trays (like Invisalign) are more esthetic than traditional metal bracketed braces, and patients will pay hundreds of dollars more for these attractive options. However, if results are the issue, orthodontists have more control over traditional, stainless steel orthodontia. The research by Dr. Fields and James Ziuchkovski, and other colleagues was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.

At TheWealthyDentist.com, a recent survey reveals what we already knew – dentists love to create beautiful smiles! Maybe it’s the artistry that goes into reshaping, coloring, and building a new smile; maybe it’s the life-changing results in a patient’s life… The survey says that the favorites rank as follows, cosmetic dentistry at 37%, implants at 28%, sedation at 16%, and Invisalign at 13%. Another major difference, nearly half of GDs prefer cosmetics as their favorite, whereas only 16% of specialists feel the same. Specialists preferred dental implants. A geographical line is evident, as well. City dentists liked Invisalign, but their rural peers didn’t care for the clear braces as much. It is those country dentists who favor cosmetics most – 50%. Urban dent...

Should the ADA Regulate Cosmetic Dentistry?

The American Dental Association recognizes nine specialties that require advanced education. These are dental public health, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral and maxillofacial radiology, oral and maxillofacial pathology, endodontics, orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, pediatric dentistry (pedodontics), periodontics, and prosthodontics. As you are well aware, cosmetic dentistry isn’t on the list. A survey at DPR World asks whether cosmetic dentistry should become a board-certified specialty. At present, the votes are split almost perfectly, with 51% saying yes and 49% saying no.
While many dentists actively pursue regular CEs in esthetics, any GD can hang a shingle touting “cosmetic dentist.” And because cosmetics accounted for about $500K per practice annually...

Periodontist Tom Wilcko developed Wilckodontics, a method of orthodontics that repositions teeth more quickly than traditional methods. The Wilckodontics website claims that patients can be “in and out of braces in 3 to 8 months.” The procedure, intended for adults with mature bone tissue, involves PAOO, Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics. In short, the jawbone is scored and a bone graft applied to the area. This softens bone to allow for accelerated movement of teeth into their ideal position. The entire procedure is done under local anesthetic and performed by an oral surgeon or periodontist. A recent University of Southern California School of Dentistry study shows that by using the patient’s bone for the graft, the potential for disease transmission is ...

A collaborative effort between 3M ESPE and 3D Systems will result in the ability for labs to create precision wax models. When the Lava™ Scanner by 3M is used with ProJet™ DP 3000 Production System and InVision® DP 3D Modeler, layering a wax up is quick, convenient, and accurate. CAD images become the blueprint for “printing” layers of wax. And the system can produce about 100 wax ups in a cycle.

The most important thing in regards to elective cosmetic dentistry is to have a system in the practice that allows the patient to discuss things they want to include in the treatment plan. The Dawson Center is against promoting dentistry that a patient does not need, but many people want elective dental work. Digital pictures open up an opportunity for a patient to see the potential for his smile through before and (digital imaging) afters. You can show people where they are and what’s possible. You usually don’t even have to bring up cosmetics because they see it for themselves. It’s important to let the patient decide for himself.
Two-thirds of dentists reported to TheWealthyDentist.com that when patients come in for teeth whitening, less than 40% move on to other cosmetic dental procedures. Female dentists reported a higher conversion rate, and some dentists linked the disheartening statistic to the economy, their region and clientele, or the feeling that cosmetic dentistry/teeth whitening is considered hype. Of the dentists who reported success with conversion, the overall feeling is that teeth whitening is an integral part of cosmetic dentistry and that it can "open the door" to cosmetic smile enhancements for patients.
Any office completely focused on elective procedures is at risk to take a hit if we slip into a recession. I have always believed a good brand is a practice that can solve problems – whether esthetic, disease driven, or functional. Problems like bite issues and missing teeth affect chewing, function, and cause tooth wear. These areas of dentistry aren’t as effected by the economy because people look at fixing problems as a need, not an option. Dentists with practices known for only elective dentistry should seek training in implant restorations and fixing problems. If you’re prepared, you’ll survive any downturn in the economy. (Source: dental blog for dentists about dentistry)

According to TheWealthyDentist.com, 62% of surveyed dentists love the dental celebs. Research reveals that two out of three dentists believe dental celebrities are good for the profession. After all, cosmetic dentistry is still on the rise.
Many people attribute the popularity of veneers, teeth whitening, and other smile enhancements to the public awareness created by television shows like Extreme Makeover. Television commercials for Lumineers fuel the cosmetic dentistry engine, as well.

A recent study in Norway found that patients tend to think more highly of their smiles than dentists do. The project took 78 patients in the 50-year-old range and asked them to rate their smiles on a visual analog scale (VAS). The patients were not seeking cosmetic dental care at the time. After the patients self-rated, two dentists, a GP and a periodontist, ranked photos of the patients based on the same scale.

Patients’ scores averaged about a 59 on the scale, and the dentists’ averaged around 40. Patients "were most satisfied with the gingival when smiling and least satisfied with tooth shade." Those under 50 years of age were most happy with their smiles. Highest ranking visual attributes to patients were eyes and teeth; women rated teeth, hair, and head shape...

Whitening procedures are excellent and should be incorporated into all contemporary restorative practices. Some patients can avoid major restorative work with teeth whitening and minor orthodontic therapy – and the least dentistry is the best dentistry, in my opinion.

My office uses the Zoom! Whitening light, but I have found that it is not as predictable as tray bleaching. Recent studies show that the whitening lights do nothing. I have seen some patients respond quite well with Zoom!, though. Because it’s unpredictable, we always follow up in-office whitening with home bleaching trays.
Be careful not to assume that everyone’s teeth should bleach in the same amount of time. My philosophy, and what I tell my patients, is that we will bleach until the teeth are white...

A study by The Dental Advisor (Vol. 24, No. 3, 2007) shows that the distribution of Cerinate porcelain restorations is as follows: traditional 60%; minimal to no-prep (Lumineers) 23%: and crowns 17%. Granted, that’s just Cerinate’s stats. Durathins, a leading minimal to no-prep brand created by Dr. Dennis Wells and Mark Willes, is rapidly becoming a popular choice, as well. There is so much marketing out there for these products right now, including the Lumineers consumer ads on television, I wondered what the great minds in dentistry had to say about the variety of veneers options. It didn’t take long to find educated, experienced opinions from some well-known experts.

A Take-Home Teeth Whitening Comparison: Colgate vs Opalescence

A big part of cosmetic dentistry is teeth whitening. In March of 2006, Colgate announced a new teeth-whitening product, Colgate Visible White, available to patients only through dentists. Colgate claimed that their product whitened teeth in three days. The trays are to be worn 30 minutes, once a day. A trendy, handy kit and mint or melon flavors appeal to consumers. One kit has 12 days worth of product, and touch-up kits have 6 days worth. But does it work?

According to the original press, "It is scientifically formulated to prevent dehydration of the teeth and it has a neutral pH for safe whitening. Colgate Visible White is formulated with potassium nitrate and fluoride and is available in 5%, 7% and 9% hydrogen peroxide (comparable to 17%, 23% and 30% carbamide peroxide respectiv...

Folks want to look phenomenal. That’s all there is to it. Breast augmentation was up 55% in 2006 over 2000, according to the National Plastic Surgery Statistics. Buttock lift was up 174%. Botox was up 420%. We – yes, probably even you - flock to tanning salons, med/spas, and other image-enhancing facilities seeking beauty…and maybe the Fountain of Youth. In dentistry, this trend is reflected in the great upward swing of cosmetic procedures performed by general dentists. According to DPR Cosmetic Comparisons, 84% of respondent dentists report that patient inquiries about cosmetic dental procedures have increased and 73% say that cases with elective cosmetic dental procedures have increased.

Our own Dr. Cranham of Cranham Seminars and Dawson Center has much to say in h...

One of the most intriguing aspects of restorative dentistry is the way different dentists approach concept of temporaries. Going back to dental school – the purpose of a temporary was to cover the tooth for comfort until the permanent restoration was ready, and to keep the teeth in the same position as when the impression was taken so that the restoration fit correctly. This is still true today when we do restorations that will basically place the tooth back to its original position. If you are making a simple temporary for a tooth going into the same position, a preop impression works nicely.

However, we now have another animal – dentistry for esthetics or tooth wear – and the focus is on looking better, so we often want to change the position of the teeth. One of the...

Congratulations on your decision to get dental braces. They will greatly improve your smile and overall looks once they have completed their transformation of your teeth!
If this is the first time you have ever worn braces, you will likely develop sore areas on your cheeks, lips, and gums from the metal brackets and wires of the braces. These sore areas are caused by the hard and sharp metals rubbing against your sensitive inner mouth skin. Thankfully, there is a solution to the problem of mouth sores from your braces - dental wax.
Dental wax can be applied any area on your braces which is causing you discomfort and soreness. Dental wax can help to provide you with a protective barrier between your braces and the rest of your mouth, to help you get used to your braces quicker, and to help ...

According to a new study, there is no association between breastfeeding and tooth decay in infants. However, it was found that being poor, Mexican-American, or having a mother who smoked during her pregnancy, were independent factors that raised the risk of early childhood tooth decay.
Dr. Hiroko Lida, University of Rochester, New York, explained that despite limited epidemiologic evidence, there has been concern that breastfeeding and its duration could raise the risk of early childhood tooth decay.
Lida and team decided to carry out a study aimed at assessing the potential link there might be between breastfeeding and other factors with the risk of early childhood caries in the USA.
The researchers gathered information on infant feeding and other child and family characteristics among...

How Does Online Pharmacies Affect Pharmacy Leaders?
With cheaper drugs made available online, big pharmacy companies are losing control of their monopolistic control over the pharmacy industry. They are not able to compete with these online pharmacies with their exorbitant drug prices. FDA moves in and tries to protect these companies from online pharmacies by trying to censor online information from users. What FDA does not know about the internet is: nobody controls internet and the spread of information over the web. Even major search engines like Google have no control over the use of information on the web. Google protects and encourages free speech on the web and that is why searching online for products is so good- you can find anything online these days. If major pharmaceutical lea...

Can you always trust your dentists’ recommendations? Think for yourself - in the last 30 years the health of our teeth has improved dramatically. We drink fluoridated water, which almost eliminated decay in our teeth. We eat better, we brush and floss. Yet the amount of money we spend on dental care continues to rise. Could it be connected to the fact that the amount of dentists is increasing every year without any proportion to increases in population?
Let’s face it - your dentist is in a business like everyone else. And since it is a very attractive business (the dentists’ income is three to five times above the average), more and more students are graduating from dental schools every year. What does it mean to your dentist? He has to face a very tough competition. He m...

DENVER - Sometimes as Freud once said a good cigar is just a smoke. A headache, on the other hand, occasionally can be a sign of something much more serious than just a headache.
This is particularly true if it is accompanied by facial pain, neck and shoulder pain, tinnitus or ringing in the ears and unexplained loose teeth. These symptoms, along with jaw pain, limited jaw movement or locking jaw, numbness in the fingers and arms, worn or cracked teeth and clicking or popping in the jaw joints can be signs that a person has the condition called temporomandibular joint syndrome or TMJ. The condition occurs when the teeth, facial muscles and temporomandibular joints are out of alignment.
Fortunately, neuromuscular dentistry can help alleviate symptoms such as headaches, neck and shoulder pai...

The Damon System is a revolutionary new system of braces that utilises friction free technology giving you faster and more comfortable tooth straightening than conventional orthodontics. Conventional treatment may require the removal of healthy teeth or the use of palatal expanders, which make room for the teeth to move into. The conventional approach is often very uncomfortable and sometimes quite painful in addition to taking longer and not giving as aesthetically pleasing results. Treatment times with the Damon braces system are typically 4-6 months less than that with conventional orthodontics.
High-tech dental lasers used mainly to prepare cavities for restoration now can help eliminate bacteria in root canals, according to research published in the July issue of The Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA).
The study, conducted by researchers in Austria, credits the development of miniaturized, flexible fiber tips for allowing the laser to be used in endodontic (root canal) treatment. Dr. Ulrich Schoop and a team of researchers in the dental school at the University of Vienna used 60 extracted human teeth with one root each to test the effects of laser irradiation on root canals using an erbium, chromium: yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser. Dr. Schoop and colleagues inoculated the root canals with one of two types of bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis and ...

Xylitol, a relatively new, natural preventative is relatively unheard of by the public, yet it affects our lives on an everyday basis. In fact, we are more familiar with it than we know-at least our bodies are.
