Leaving behind a thank-you note was a very kind gesture.
I am a regular viewer of NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and so I thoroughly enjoyed coverage he and his team gave the Winter Olympics from Vancouver for two weeks. They even did a nice piece with the two Brian Williams.

CTV Ottawa: the lead story is their own newsroom

CTV Ottawa is, sadly, the lead story on its own, and every other, newscast around eastern Ontario today. A massive fire early this morning destroyed the newsroom as well as the station’s extensive archives. That is a particularly poignant loss as longtime news anchor, and public servant extraordinaire, Max Keeping retires in April after an [...] (Source: My journey with AIDS)

Anyone who knows me, and my story, knows that I have no tolerance for child abuse. Nothing so horrible was alleged in the case of the late David Dewees. While no doubt serious the charges, which led to him taking his own life long before they would go to court, seemed to have [...] (Source: My journey with AIDS)

"It's a miracle" - teen's lifesaving artificial heart

Filed under: Products, Children Heart Health, SurgeryI was fascinated to read about the baby boy who survived 120 days on an artificial heart. What an incredible device. Now here comes another news story. Same device, but this time it's about a Canadian teen. Fifteen-year-old Melissa Mills spent 146 days connected to her artificial heart. During that time she and her family were waiting for a transplant opportunity. Like the UK baby, however, her heart healed itself and she's now doing just fine - no surgery required! "For sure it's a miracle," one heart specialist was quoted as saying.Even a few years ago, it would have been considered just about impossible for someone like Melissa to survive without a heart transplant. Indeed, it was not altogether certain Melissa would survive her illne...

Gestational diabetes, cancer link?

Filed under: Type 1, Type 2, ResearchWomen who developed gestational diabetes while pregnant are at a higher risk for pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately, that's the word from a new study. According to this report from Canada's CTV News, past studies have linked type 2 diabetes with increased pancreatic cancer. And, of course, having gestational diabetes puts you at risk for type 2 diabetes. However, this is the first time a link has been made between GD and pancreatic cancer. The study involved an analysis of health records for a whopping 40,000 women, all of whom gave birth in Jerusalem between 1964 and 1976. Phew, that's a lotta diapers... Of 410 women diagnosed with GD, five developed pancreatic cancer in later years. None of the 137 women with type 1 diabetes went on to develop pancreatic...
