You know when you’re skimming through the newsfeed on Facebook, and something totally grabs your face and says “LOOK AT ME I AM THE AWESOME?”
Yes, that’s precisely what happened when I stumbled upon Faye’s photo of Novolog-inspired cake pops. (You did read that correctly. Here, look:)

Photo – and cake pops – by Faye!
Faye has been living with type 1 since the age of 9, and for her 18th diaversary she wanted to make something special and bolus-worthy. Her current obsession has been cake pops (making them and feeding them to her non-d friends, even though I can safely say that some of her d-friends would happily go chompies on one), so when she saw the bright orange candy melts at her local AC Moore, a lightbulb went off – NovoLog cake pop...

This weekend was a great but emotionally draining; I'll blog about it soon. You may be thinking how cupcakes fit into the equation but it does-baking cupcakes allows me to spend a 45 minutes with my daughter and husband without focusing on other things in life. I needed a break from thinking about my friend, her husband and children. So after a much needed nap-I went to the store and grabbed the items I needed to bake cupcakes. I know sometimes food isn't the best thing in the world to indulge in when emotions are involved but I'm human. We have to enjoy the simple things in life and sometimes the simple things in life a cupcake.Fresh out of the oven...YumTaste even better with icingBaking and eating cupcakes makes me happy.
Obesity or an Eating Disorder: Which Is Worse?

I fear that I’m giving my daughter an eating disorder with intentions of teaching her how to eat right. Which begs the question: which is more harmful — obesity (and diabetes) or an eating disorder?
I’ve implemented a “one-treat rule” in our home, which simply means that if my kids get ice-cream after school, they have already had their treat and don’t get dessert after dinner. I try to explain as delicately as I can that too many sweets and too much junk food makes you sick. Fat too, yes. But, more importantly, sick.
“What happens when you eat more than one treat?” my daughter asked me awhile back. And, well, I’m not proud of this, but I think I said, while my mind was somewhere else: “You blow up.”
So yesterday she had a s...

I I started baking cakes/cupcakes from scratch a month or so ago, I really enjoy it. I am always trying to find new ways and flavors to help me with my hobby; baking cupcakes and diabetes=funny but to be honest with you it's easier for me to bolus for a cupcake than it is for me to bolus for a piece of cake. Yesterday, I was sitting in my woman cave with Quyncee. I asked her if she thought strawberry and banana went together. She said, "Yes!." Could I really pull off a strawberry cupcake with banana cream cheese frosting? I was up for the challenge. I headed to the grocery store to buy the ingredients. I have to admit, I was a little worried because Quyncee (wearing red) is a teenager--we all know how hard it is to please a teenager. I waited ...

Yes, our family (as in all three of us) attended two parties this weekend.

On Saturday afternoon we drove into Queens via the Goethals Bridge, the Verranzano Bridge (Charlie sat up to get the full view of being close to the ocean), and Brooklyn (after going through Sunset Park and seeing too many interesting looking Chinese and Asian restaurants, and then East New York). One of Jim’s friends’ two sisters (count the s’s and the apostrophes in that) were both celebrating their birthday somewhere off of Fresh Pond Road. Charlie put his hands over his ears at the music and the party noise; a woman who works with autistic children at a school out on Long Island came and sat with him and talked; Charlie looked relaxed. He sat and ate while Jim and I socialized. Driving back to...

This is the second part of the Spot Pass Bloggers’ Food Tour series. I’ve already covered the TriNoMa part of the tour in my previous post.
Not being too familiar with the area, I used the bus that’s going around (which usually gets the bulk of its passengers near the Ayala MRT station). It’s lovely getting around Bonifacio High street, as the streets are clean and there aren’t too many people. Commuting has been stress free for me. At the end of the bus ride, I discovered that I was with Mica and Maki in the bus the whole time (though they’re seated much upfront). Then, together, we proceeded to Krispy Kreme at Bonifacio High Street to meet up with the other bloggers participating in the second part of the Spot Pass Bloggers’ Food Tour.
