Bernard, Amy, Kerri, Scott, photo by Jeff HitchcockOne of the hardest things at CWD Friends For Life (FFL) was deciding on which session to attend for any given pocket of time. Each session ran for an hour, or an hour-and-a-half, and there were usually six or seven to choose from at any given time.
Ontario Health Minister David Caplan quit on Tuesday as the province's auditor general prepared to make public the results of his office's investigation into "favouritism" and "questionable procurement practices" at the eHealth Ontario agency in the form of contracts doled out without proper competitive bidding.Deb Matthews (below right), who had been Children and Youth Services Minister and holds a PhD in social demography, has been named to replace Mr Caplan.Mr Caplan's fall from grace has initiated some grumbling from within the Liberal Party ranks. "None of this happened on his tenure – it's all under George," an anonymous Liberal told the Toronto Star, referring to former health minister George Smitherman, who held the job from 2003 until 2008. "But with the report coming out, David...

What do you think?Perceptions vs. RealityBy Deb ButterfieldOriginal URL for this article:http://www.insulinfreetimes.org/itimesv600.htmPerceptions are often quite different from reality, yet perceptions wield enormous power. Diabetes is widely perceived to be a manageable condition. Most people believe that diabetics will live a full and normal life if they follow the rules of diabetes management. Yet the reality is that diabetes kills one American every three minutes, and every three minutes, four more are diagnosed. D...

Many Diabetes Patients Conclude that the Treatment is as bad as their Disease

The current standard for evaluating diabetes treatments is typically the net impact a treatment has on a patient's hemoglobin A1c, but new research published in the October 2007 edition of Diabetes Care ("Patient Perceptions of Quality of Life With Diabetes-Related Complications and Treatments", Elbert S. Huang, Sydney E.S. Brown, Bernard G. Ewigman, Edward C. Foley, and David O.
As some of my readers discovered, last Thursday, the chat with Deb Butterfield had to be rescheduled at the last minute. Details on what happened were not readily available other than we were told that Deb ended up at the hospital Thursday night. We were told she was reportedly alright.I wanted to let everyone know that Deb e-mailed on Sunday, and she apologized profusely for missing the chat Thursday evening. She said she was very excited to catch up with old friends and for the opportunity to share her thoughts. But as it turns out, she had a serious reaction to penicillin that had been prescribed (she had never been allergic to penicillin previously), so she drove to the ER and they put her in ICU. She was released from the hospital on Sunday. The good news is that Deb is fine healthwise...
