A provocative expos of the negative effects of sugars and simple carbs-and how to break the addiction. Most readers already know that succumbing to sweets too often can lead to obesity and diabetes. What many don’t know, however, is that too many “quickie carbs” can bring on a host of other maladies-such as “brain fog,” fatigue, mood swings, heart disease, and even cancer-from which millions may be suffering because of their sugar or carbohydrate habits. Once besieged by 44 seemingly unconnected symptoms, former “sugar addict” Connie Bennett, an experienced journalist, managed to kick sweets and simple carbs in 1998. She improved her health-and uncovered extensive medical research that substantiat...

Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s revolutionary diet is not about willpower, it is about knowledge. Eat to Live offers a healthy, effective, and scientifically proven Six-Week Plan for shedding a radical amount of weight quickly. The key to the program’s success is simple: health = nutrients: calories When the ratio of nutrients to calories in the food you eat is high, fat melts away. The more nutrient-dense food you consume, the more you will be satisfied with fewer calories and the less you will crave fat and high-calorie foods. Eat to Live will help you live longer, reduce your need for medications, and improve your overall health dramatically. It is a book that will change the way you want to eat.
– I remember reading probably, 25 years ago, an article in the "health" section of a magazine that claimed we're all getting ill because of the impact fecal matter in our colons. 10 kilos of the stuff, clogging us up, making us sick, causing joint pain and dulling the mind…gettting rid of it through detox and/or colonic irrigation will make you well. It's all bullsh, of course as any colon surgeon will tell you. The bottom line is that in medicine, “detoxification” has a specific meaning, and alt-med “detox” believers have appropriated the term for something that has little or nothing to do with its real medical meaning. Alt-med detox has more to do with exorcism and bad humors than real medicine. Squirting warm water up your backsid...

Whatever you do, DO NOT think of an elephant right now!
Seriously.
Don’t think about elephants, or big floppy elephant ears, or elephants at circuses, or elephants in the wild.
Now, be honest: you totally just thought of an elephant. Didn’t you?
That’s exactly how I felt all week when I tried to stay away from the internet.
When I opted to spend a week away from the internet and other technological devices, I expected my brief affair with the IRL (“in real life”) world to whisk me away into romantic oblivion.
Sadly, that was not the case.

Instead, I spent a lot of offline time thinking about the technology that I was sorely missing…and about the stress it invites into my life. The constantly-updating Twitter feeds, the myri...

Detox diets are making news as the quickest, easiest way to shed pounds, boost your energy, and get yourself on a wellness track. Popular in the 1970s, cleansing fasts are again all the rage among celebrities like Gisele Bundchen, Gwyneth Paltrow, Stella McCartney, and Madonna. One of the key advocates of the health benefits of cleansing detoxes is Roni DeLuz, ND, a licensed naturopathic and health practitioner at Marthas Vineyard Holistic Retreat, part of the renowned Marthas Vineyard Inn. The idea behind DeLuzs new detox plan is the belief that the foods we eat (along with the coffee, tea, and alcohol we drink and the air we breathe) contain harmful and toxic substances that accumulate in our bodies and need to be removed in some way. Happy Digital Detox Week! This week, I’m joining Adbusters in celebrating seven days away from technology — television, video games, and internet included.
Wait.
What was that last one? Did I just say “internet”? Yeah, internet. That internet thing…that thing that I’m on right now.
Did I just out myself as a failure at my own little project?
It’s only the third day of my week-long experiment and already I’m a hypocrite — but with good reason. Computers and the internet have invaded my life to such a great extent that I can’t completely disconnect. Not even if I wanted to.
Here’s why: I work in an office. Every aspect of my day job, unfortunately, is performed in front of the big bright computer ...

Every day, we live a rushed life, causing us to settle for just anything because of the demands of work and the environment. However; it is not too late to start living healthier. Below are 4 helpful tips to a colon detox.
Tip # 1
One of the most affected aspects of our life is our health; we do not choose healthy foods but instead settle for fast food, junk food, and processed food. Indeed, these are the quick way to fill a hungry stomach and replenish fuel in the body, but they are rich in preservatives that have negative effects for the body, especially the colon.
Tip # 2
The human colon is responsible for processing the food we eat. In the process of digestion, the colon also acts as a natural cleansing mechanism of the body in order to get rid of the toxins contained in the food we ea...

Digital distractions are everywhere. You’re only two sentences into this blog post, but I’ll bet you’re already thinking about switching tabs to see if you have any comments on that new Facebook wall post you just made.
Now you’ve reached the second paragraph, and I know you want to — have to, in fact — refresh your Gmail just one more time. Or check your @replies on Twitter, again, just like you did five minutes ago. Or pull up Reddit, again, hoping to see that red/orange envelope all lit up to notify you of a brand new message. Wait — did you hear something vibrate from across the room? Was it your phone? Maybe you should go and check your texts.
Technology can scatter our attention into about a million directions at onc...

Thousands of Americans already suffering from methadone addiction are finding themselves trapped with little hope for successful detox and rehabilitation.
Few methadone detox or rehab facilities will accept someone taking more than 80 milligrams per day, but most long-term addicts are on far higher doses. In fact, many detox and rehab centers require dosages as low as 40mg or less. And many drug rehab and drug detox centers won’t accept methadone addicts at all.
And at the higher maintenance doses, which is where we find the majority of methadone addicts, withdrawal symptoms during detox are unimaginably severe, and can last for months. Instead, almost all rehab and detox centers advise addicts to taper their dosages down to 20 to 40 milligrams per day, and then they will be accepted...

The Lithium Chronicles is a Blisstree series focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder. Ross McKenzie was diagnosed as bipolar at the age of 21. After 15 years of daily lithium doses, he went off his meds last February. He’s been drug free ever since. This is the continuing story of how he made his way back to a life without psychotropic medication, after he ended up walking naked down a highway on one ill-fated night.
At the end of my first year on lithium, I almost died. For an entire year I had been taking 1200 milligrams of lithium a day. At the end of the year my psychiatrist called me in a panic telling me to drop my dosage immediately:
“Your test results were in the extreme toxic range. Which can cause death.”
All psychotropic drugs are highly toxic. ...

Many people find it surprising to hear that medical drug detox involves putting additional drugs into the body, and that some recovering addicts continue taking maintenance medications for months or even years after quitting. There’s something slightly counterintuitive in the idea of using drugs to combat drug use. Yet that’s the way the mainstream medical community does it, and millions of people have been helped by these drug detox methods.
Alternative drug detox
Still, if you’re uncomfortable with the idea of using medication to quit drugs, there are alternative options. There are even some that are sanctioned by the medical community. However, the most important thing to understand when approaching more natural forms of drug detox is that there is inevitably going to ...

In a medical detox program, the first stage is to bring the patient through the withdrawal process while treating the painful symptoms associated with withdrawal as much as possible. The individual is analyzed to see whether he or she should be transferred in the intensive medical detox program unit.
It is generally not advisable that a patient abruptly stop taking the drugs or alcohol without a medically supervised medical detox program. Withdrawal from certain drugs, including alcohol, can be dangerous and require a special treatment program.
The type of treatment program recommended depends upon the substances abused, the duration of the addiction and the amount taken. In a medical detox program, 24 hour supervision is provided by qualified withdrawal specialists and nurses. There are s...

Review:
Wow! This book is an eye opener. I’m saying this because most of us have never heard about the teachings in this book, although probably our grand-grandparents still knew it. The modern society and lifestyle made us neglect the laws of the Nature when taking care of our own body, to our own peril. Unfortunately, these days not even the doctors are aware of the importance of bowel care, even though until the 40′s- 50′s this was a well known fact. Probably after that the discovery of modern “cures&...

There are many detox programs that provide the addict with relief from addiction. Medical detox uses medication to rid the patient of physical dependence. Qualified doctors make use of latest medical facilities to ensure the addict’s recovery. Medical programs also use a mix of holistic and medical approaches for the comfortable and speedy recovery of the patient.
Many centers also provide non-medical detox programs for addicts. Such programs can prove more effective than medical detox programs in many cases. Non-medical detox uses nutritional alternatives, natural, and IV therapies for the patient’s rehabilitation. Both of these programs are very sophisticated and use a battery of tests to evaluate the addict’s condition.

If you have recently asked yourself the question, “Am I an alcoholic”, you may not be a certifiable alcoholic but you probably do have an alcohol problem. Fortunately, help is available to treat alcoholism and alcohol dependency problems. The easiest and most effective approach combines long-term treatment and support following a shorter-term alcohol detox program.
Most alcohol rehab programs have traditionally been rooted in strong, on-going personal support involving family, friends and peer groups. There’s nothing wrong with that, but the main problem is taking the first big step – making the decision to quit drinking and get into an alcohol rehab program. The good news is that a fast, modern medically supervised alcohol detox program can make the alcohol rehab d...

Heroin Girl asks the question: I am currently on 200 mg of methadone. I’ve been on it for a couple of years and next month I will be going to a clinic for medical detox. Basically, if you’ve experienced it, you know it’s when you’re put under anesthesia and they withdraw you completely. After the procedure, I’ve been told I’ll be given a Naltrexone implant to block receptors. This is costing over $10,000, and that’s including round the clock medical care for 4 days after the procedure. After that, I’ll be flying home to NY and then resting a day before getting on a plane and going to England where I’ll be for the next year. My major question from someone that’s been through this, is am I going to be too “out of it” on ...

So you want to know which drug or alcohol detox center is best for you? With so many options and choices available it is no wonder people find themselves confused. Choosing the right rehab may be one of the most important decisions you will ever make. It can literally mean the difference between a long life of happiness and a short life of misery. Here are 3 very important things you need to think about before making a choice.

Some people can handle the discomfort of withdrawal symptoms better than others. It is important for you to be honest about how much you are willing to endure without the assistance of medication. Choosing a program that p...

Detoxing from drug or alcohol use is the first step in many alcohol rehabilitation programmes. The purpose of it is to clear the body of the toxins built up through the use of drugs and alcohol.
In a rehab centre, you’ll undergo a managed detox. You can also detox outside a residential centre but you must seek medical advice first as it can be dangerous to do it without supervision.
Withdrawal
The first stage of detox is withdrawal, which includes both mental and physical reactions. Many individuals experience withdrawal symptoms of varying severity. The type of withdrawal symptoms a person will experience and their severity depend on a number of factors. These include:

The individual’s health etc.
The type of drug which is being withdrawn
The frequency and quantity of drugs ...

If you are a serious alcohol abuser you may not be able to safely and successfully quit drinking alcohol on your own due to alcohol withdrawal symptoms. In this case then it is important that you visit a medical alcohol detox facility in order to remove the alcohol from your system while protecting your health.
Alcohol withdrawal symptoms only present themselves after a person has seriously abused alcohol for a significant amount of time. If you go out on Friday and become intoxicated, you may be hungover the next day, but you will not need medical detox in order to remove the alcohol from your body. On the other hand, if you are a regular alcohol abuser who has developed a high tolerance to the alcohol you may not be able to stop without encountering serious problems.

While I’m on the subject of rip-offs, I’ll mention an extreme form of ‘detox capitalism’; a process called rapid opioid withdrawal, rapid detox, or ‘the Waismann Method.’
The name of the process supposedly comes from a certain ‘Dr. Waismann’ who helped Israeli soldiers get off opioids after they were treated for various injuries. It sounds like a pretty exciting history, but to be honest there is nothing in the technique that takes a rocket scientist to figure out. The basic idea is to precipitate withdrawal using an opioid antagonist— something that is done many times over every day in emergency rooms across the U.S.—but to do it while the person is sedated with non-opioid medications.

Almost anyone dependent on drugs will tell you they would like to be drug-free, but the pain and misery of detoxing is just too much to bear. But a new generation of medical drug detox centers is providing new, more effective protocols that help substance-dependent patients ease through withdrawal with a minimum of discomfort.
In most cities and towns in America, alcohol and drug detox facilities only offer ‘cookie-cutter’ detox — everyone dependent on a similar substance is put through a similar withdrawal program. Often, it’s little more than putting patients in a room and letting them sweat it out on their own.
Expectations for cookie-cutter drug detox are understandably low. And a large percentage of drug-dependent people don’t get through them, no matter ...

This ever increasing need for drugs forces many addicts into a life of crime and despair to satisfy the habit.

It is very rare that you will find an addicted individual asking for help in finding a drug rehab facility. That is the reason for an alcohol and drug intervention. Whether a family is ready to confront their loved one with an effective solution to their addiction or not, just by researching this on the internet shows you are ready to make this move. A successful drug and alcohol rehabilitation program is the most important thing for people who have a loved one addicted to drugs or alcohol.
Drug and alcohol interventions are very effective if done the proper way. Having the family willing to do this is the most important and always the first step. Once the family realizes this problem can not go on the intervention company is the next step. The intervention coordinator will then go over wh...

Step 1. ‘Truth It’ aka Being Honest with Yourself. Face it, addictive behaviour is a problem in your life. It has stripped away far more than it has ever given back. Addiction hurts your health, your relationships, your finances, your sense of self worth, your peace of mind and possibly your legal status. Admit the truth to yourself – addiction creates and never solves problems.
Recovery Strategy: Make a list of the personal costs of addiction, and the benefits you stand to gain by stopping this destructive behaviour.
Substance abuse is a devastating disease. But that doesn’t have to be the end of the story. Whoever you are, however hopeless you believe your substance abuse problem to be, a private substance abuse treatment program administered by an exclusive substance abuse treatment facility really can help you achieve substance abuse recovery. The catch, of course, is that you have to be willing to initiate the healing process in the first place.
It’s never easy to make the decision to enroll in a substance abuse rehab facility. But nothing you do will ever be more important. The day you begin substance abuse rehabilitation will be the day you start healing from the inside out, in a way that will help you rediscover life as you used to know it and yourself as you used to be.
In recent years, crystal meth has become the drug of choice in the gay men’s party scene. Like the mainstream use of crystal meth, this trend spread from west to east – San Francisco to New York and Vancouver to Toronto. At “PNP” parties (shorthand for “party and play” – meaning sex and drugs), crystal meth, known as “tina,” increases energy and reduces sexual inhibition. The superhuman feeling that often comes with a crystal meth high means the sex is often unprotected.
The dangerous mix of crystal meth and unprotected sex got the world’s attention in February 2005 when it was revealed that a New York City man who is a frequent crystal meth user and had unprotected sex with numerous other men contracted a highly virulent strain o...

OxyContin recovery is impossible without OxyContin detox. Anyone who suggests otherwise simply doesn’t understand the nature of OxyContin addiction. The truth is that OxyContin abuse is always rooted in physiological dependency, which is why OxyContin treatment must always begin with physiological healing. The doctors and therapists at a professional OxyContin detox facility will help you prepare for the challenges of primary OxyContin rehab. In the end, it’s hard to imagine that anything could ever be more important than that.

Most people who become dependant on or addicted to drugs or alcohol don’t start out with that intention. Whether they’re taking a prescription painkiller after an accident or injury or using drugs or drinking socially, they never think it will affect them that badly. Nevertheless, millions of people in the U.S. need drug detox, and possibly drug rehab.
How does this happen? According to Steven L. Hayes, Director of Novus Medical Detox in Pasco County, Florida, when you’re using drugs or alcohol, they become a normal way of life. “Often the person doesn’t see they have a problem.” said Mr. Hayes. “They think things are fine and don’t notice they are changing, but others do: Their boss may have started to notice problems on the job and their jo...

A lot of pesticides may have been used in the agricultural fields where our crops were grown and even a few years back this was going on at an alarming rate and this is the reason why one ought t know of the Pesticide Detox.
Throughout the various years we have been subjected to harmful pesticides as they have entered our bodily systems through the food that we intake and the vegetables and cereals that we consume as our daily meals.
Recently activists have pointed out how dangerous it is for the health of our bodies and this has resulted into a decrease in the use of pesticides in the agricultural fields and lands.

Do you have a severe drug or alcohol addiction?
Are you in need of a proper detoxification facility?
If you answered these questions “yes” then you will be interested to learn about the benefits and/or down sides to a non-medical detox facility.
The first thing you will need to know is whether or not you qualify for a non-medical detox.
How do you know if you qualify?
Well let’s start by identifying the things that might disqualify you.
You most likely do NOT qualify for a non-medical detox if you:
oAre prone to grand mal seizures
oAre withdrawing from extremely high levels of benzos
If either of the above two options are true for you then you will probably want to seek out a medically supervised detox center.
If neither of the above two options apply to you then you do q...

The principles of acupuncture comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which has been developed several thousand years ago. The technique involves the use of thin needles to stimulate certain points in your body. These points lie along the meridian network in your body. Acupuncture aims to unblock the flow of energy or qi, which flows through this network. When there is a blockage, according to TCM, illnesses and diseases often arise.

Addiction is appropriately treated as the chronic disease that it is. Recovery is a process that occurs over time. It often involves progress in an inconsistent series of starts and stops. Relapse is a symptom of addiction and a common piece of the recovery experience. Relapse is a symptom of most chronic diseases. Addiction is no exception. Although relapse is predictable and preventable, it is nevertheless, a fact of life, in the dynamics of addiction and recovery.
For those is relapse, it may difficult to re-engage in recovery groups and support systems because of guilt or shame, but the very life of an alcoholic or addict depends on that. For those in relapse or returning to recovery, questions about what to do about detox, are common.

In conclusion, the difference is that the medical field is useful in the infant stages of drug treatment and twelve step programs have found a long term solution. Actually, most doctors will recommend their patients to twelve step programs for their drug treatment. So, these two separate fields have steadily begun to work as one.

I’m here to help those who will invest in their recovery. That investment may be learning about nutritional supplementation, spending a little on over the counter nutrients but for those wanting the best, it will be much more.
Methadone detox is mostly misunderstood by medical doctors and most detox centers. I know, I’ve done my research.
I know many detox staff don’t nutritionally supplement withdrawing patients. They may distance themselves from you through the withdrawal. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), prescription drugs have overtaken cocaine and heroin combined as the leading cause of lethal overdoses. And treatment specialists across the country are seeing a huge increase in people with prescription drug problems of all kinds turning up at drug detox programs for help.
Although overdose deaths have been increasing since the early 1990s, recent prescription drug death statistics have risen so dramatically they have created the first increase in 25 years in the nation’s death rate from injuries of all kinds, the CDC said in a December study.
What’s the difference between one rehab program and another? Which drug and alcohol detox and rehab program should you or a loved one go to? Do you know the different types or models of recovery?
Here is a summary of the different approaches to detox and rehab that I am familiar with after working in the field of drug abuse for 8 years as a drug rehab consultant and drug prevention specialist.

Medical detox is the use of medications, such as benzodiazepines, clonidine, suboxone, etc, to more smoothly withdraw someone from alcohol, methadone, opiates or other drugs of abuse. Approved medical facilities and medical doctors and staff are required to administer the various treatments to assist with difficult or otherwise long withdrawals from these drugs.

Not every drug addiction requires a medically supervised detox. While many drug withdrawals can be uncomfortable, not all drug withdrawals are life threatening.
Most people are unaware of the severe and life threatening consequences of abrupt withdrawal from certain medications. Pharmaceuticals come with instructions and warning labels that can be referred to. Your pharmacist and doctor should also provide you with information about withdrawal procedures.
Alcohol detox is a good example of one that should be medically supervised in certain cases. Sudden cessation of heavy alcohol use can cause seizures and even be deadly.
Xanax detox and detox rehab from other benzodiazepines is another example of a potentially dangerous withdrawal, especially if other medications are being taken in conjun...

Naturally, if you are searching for a detox you will want and need to know what your options are. There are numerous different methodologies when it comes to detox and I will not go into those here. What I will do is give you the bottom line information as it relates to a Medical Detox.
So, what is a Medical Detox?
Essentially, it is an aided withdraw process. It is a process that mandates the use of proven medicines to ease the withdraw symptoms. These medicines are issued under the care and supervision of qualified medical professionals.
A medical detox typically constitutes a stay in a medical facility so that your vital signs can continuously be monitored. It is also important to stay in a medical facility due to the fact that your dosage of medicine should constantly be monitored and ...

How a Dual Diagnosis Treatment Facility Can Help

There are a lot of drug and alcohol treatment centers in the United States. Each of them has the same conventional forms of treatment, but there are some that vary when it comes to specialized treatment. Some offer faith based treatment, which means that the person is spiritually empowered and then offered conventional treatment as well. There are others that have to be different because they cater to individuals who have dual diagnosis and not all conventional rehab programs can handle this issue. It is not easy to choose a rehab center when your loved one is suffering from dual diagnosis because you simply don’t know the extent of the person’s addiction and why they resorted to either drugs or alcohol so you are unable to choose wisely.
Dual diagnosis treatment centers are ef...

We’re always talking (and writing) about ways to de-stress. We know that constantly being stressed can have seriously bad implications for our body and our mind, but this news got us all worked up: A new study shows that stressed out mice fought tumors way better than mice that were relaxing all the time. (How do mice relax, exactly?)
Mice were injected with melanoma. Some mice were in a large cage with other mice, lots of toys, and space. Other mice remained in the normal lab cages. Three weeks into the study, the tumors of the mice who were in the more stimulating cage shrank to half their previous size, and they had shrunk 77% in six weeks. The tumors even disappeared in 17% of the mice. The mice in the normal cages had tumors that continued to grow.
So, what&#82...

A small circle of men listened attentively as their counsellor at a mission in St. Paul announced their assignment. Their faces might have belonged to anyone–professionals with post-graduate degrees or homeless individuals who constantly struggle. But they were late-stage, chronic alcoholics, the kind who huddle beneath city bridges in the December cold or who simply revolve through local detox centers and shelters. All were searching for a reason to hope.
A week earlier, the counsellor had asked each of them to write a prayer. Everyone managed to come up with something, except one. The counsellor asked if he had written something, and the man shook his head and stared dismally at the floor. Years on the street immersed in alcohol and g...

Drug detox shouldn’t be painful. Despite what you may have “learned” from Hollywood movies, the truth is that detox is first and foremost about healing, and about hope. The catch, of course, is that you have to get help from people who know exactly what they’re doing. The professional experts at a private drug detox facility can ensure the success of your healing process. All that remains, now, is for you to seek assistance.
The fact that you’re here, reading this, suggests that you don’t need a lecture on the perils of addiction. Successful drug treatment really will change your life—but only if it’s preceded by gentle and compassionate drug detox. The right drug detox center will help you rediscover yourself as you used to be, before drug abuse made you the person you are...

Organic is Always Best. And cilantro is great for digestion, as an anti-inflammatory, to lower blood sugar and cholesterol. Here is a great recipe for Cilantro Pesto, instead of your normal Basil Pesto

1 bunch cilantro
3 cloves garlic
1/2 c. olive oil
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4 c. pine nuts (or walnuts)

Wash cilantro, dry! Mix ingredients in food processor until smooth. Chill and serve with fish or pasta as sauce or as a vegetable dip. (Source: Doctor Kalitenko antiaging blog)

Drug detox shouldn’t be painful. On the contrary, an advanced drug detox program administered by compassionate drug detox professionals should be first and foremost a hopeful experience. The catch, of course, is that not all drug detox facilities employ competent caregivers. As you explore your drug detoxification options, it’s essential that you not be seduced by one of these inferior institutions.
There are plenty of drug detox facilities in Los Angeles. Only a handful, though, are fully capable of meeting the needs of their clients. The right drug detox clinic will quite literally change your life. The wrong one will only leave you with more of the same. For your own sake, for the sake of the people who care about you, let today be the day you make an informed and intelligent choice...

Heroin detox shouldn’t be painful. On the contrary, an exclusive heroin detox program administered at a professional heroin detox facility can help you take the first steps towards recovery without suffering along the way. The catch, of course, is that you have to be willing to embark upon the journey.
Heroin recovery always begins with a personal choice. After all, even the best heroin treatment facility in Los Angeles is incapable of helping a client who refuses to be helped. The day you begin heroin detox will be the day you start rediscovering life the way you used to know it, before heroin addiction turned you into the person you are today. For your own sake, for the sake of the people who care about you, don’t wait any longer to finally set out on the road to a better future. (So...

Detox can make all the difference in the world. Whoever you are, however hopeless you believe yourself to be, a private detox program administered by an exclusive detox center can set you on the road to meaningful and lasting addiction recovery. The catch, though, is that not all detox facilities are equally capable of serving their clients—and only by finding a detox clinic that’s exactly right for you can you expect to get all the way to where you need to go.
The best detox programs are those tailored to the unique individual needs of unique individual patients. The best detox facilities, in turn, are those which care most deeply about their individual residents. The only successful detox is that which helps you get better on your own terms.
Intoxicants have been with humanity for millennia, indeed, there are examples of other species that, ahem, self medicate, with various herbs and fruit that has gone by its sell-by date and so accrued alcoholic content. It is, therefore, probably no surprise that the vast majority of us enjoy the occasional tipple and others various other chemical weapons of mind destruction.
People who know me, know that I am somewhere on the spectrum between connoisseur and just plain sloshed in the Fawlty Towers sense of that phrase. Some would say further to one end than the other. Whatever my reputation it occurred to me after our family summer break that it was probably time for a hepatic holiday.

Heroin recovery is a delicate process. To be successful, it has to be administered exactly the right way, by the clinical experts at specialized heroin treatment facilities. As you explore your heroin rehab options, then, it’s essential that you settle for nothing less than the best care available to you. Heroin detox done right really will change your life.
Conclusion
This selection of slides shows that much of the stuff taught in degrees in herbal medicine poses a real danger to public safety and to public health.
Pittilo’s idea that imposing this sort of miseducation will help safety is obviously and dangerously wrong. The Department of Health must reject the Pittilo recommendations on those grounds.

Detox From Opiate Addiction Is Vital To Your Long Term Recovery

The doctors and therapists at opiate detox facilities are specially trained to help patients overcome the bonds of opiate abuse without suffering along the way. In the end, it’s hard to imagine that any consideration could ever possibly be more important than that one.
There are plenty of opiate treatment centers in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, only a few of them recognize the importance of the opiate detox process. The fact of the matter is that a gentle opiate detox program can make the difference between the success and failure of your healing experience.
Alcohol detox can only succeed if it’s administered by people who know exactly what they’re doing. As obvious as that sounds, the unfortunate truth is that many of the most high-priced alcohol rehab facilities in Los Angeles fail to devote sufficient resources to the detox process. This is simply unacceptable. In the end, no alcoholic can expect to get sober without the help of an advanced alcohol detox program. Anyone who tells you otherwise simply doesn’t understand the nature of recovery.
The good news is that alcohol detox done right really does change lives.
No not that Paris.
Last Friday I booked my flight over to Paris for September. Yesterday I finally settled on an apartment to rent at a pretty damn good prize. For some visuals, I’ll post some photos. For about 85 Euros a night, I have an apartment, dishwasher - not that I need that, washer, and free WI FI, something very essential for me.

Now going to Paris may not seem that adventurous, especially after my official “Pandemic Tour” where I travelled around the world, literally. But it is.

The last time I was in Paris, I was detoxing. I was actually detoxing all over Europe, mostly in Brussels, but also Paris, Glasgow, and Amsterdam.
Feeling strung out, I longed to be back at home. Europe to me looked as if someone photoshopped all the c...

For those of you who like to do some scientific reading, a recent meta-analysis looked at clonidine’s efficacy in reducing the symptoms of opiate withdrawal. A meta-analysis, by the way, is when someone takes a number of studies that sometimes didn’t reach significant conclusions and combines the numbers, creating a larger study group that sometimes shows significant results that were missed in the smaller study. There are limitations to such an approach, but it is still a common approach to looking at infrequent things. The infamous ‘black box warnings’ on SSRIs about suicidal ideation in children came from meta-analysis of old studies of antidepressants.

Oxycontin detox can only succeed if you’re able to fully commit yourself to your Oxycontin detox program. But you don’t have to make the effort alone. On the contrary, the support you get from the professional caregivers at a private Oxycontin detox facility will be instrumental to the ultimate outcome of your Oxycontin recovery experience. Those Oxycontin addiction victims who get help really can expect to achieve meaningful and lasting sobriety. Those who don’t, can’t. Under the circumstances, it’s hard to imagine that any selling point could ever be more persuasive than that one.

Alcohol recovery is impossible without alcohol detox. But that isn’t to say that just any alcohol detox program is sufficient for healing. On the contrary, only gentle alcohol detox administered by caring detox professionals can lay the groundwork for successful alcohol rehabilitation.
There are plenty of alcohol detox centers in Los Angeles. Some of them understand the importance of compassion in the healing process. Many more of them don’t. In making an alcohol detox decision, it’s vital that you be able to distinguish the former from the latter. Alcohol treatment is always a delicate undertaking.
April 22 is celebrated every year as Earth Day and this year I’d like to encourage you to think about changing your diet in ways that would benefit both your health and the health of the environment. And I can think of no better way than to follow the precepts set forth by Michael Pollan, Professor of Journalism at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, and the director of the Knight Program in Science and Environmental Journalism, and author of the excellent book In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto, which I highly recommend. Eat food
Not too much
Mostly plants

In choosing a private alcohol treatment program, there are at least three criteria to keep in mind. The first is the quality of caregivers employed by a private alcohol rehab center. The second is the quality of the amenities offered by the facility. And the third—and perhaps the least obvious—is the facility’s physical location.
It’s easy to forget just how important environment can be in the alcohol detox and treatment process. A private alcohol treatment program is invariably impacted by the context in which it occurs, especially by the extent to which that context helps patients cultivate personal serenity and peace of mind. The best alcohol treatment program, then, is very often the one that’s administered in the most scenic and secluded environment. Given the stakes in the ...

Opiate detox doesn’t have to be painful. If you get your “facts” from Hollywood movies, you might have the impression that detoxification is always a miserable experience. But that simply isn’t the case. The truth of the matter is that drug detox should be first and foremost a hopeful experience, so long as it’s administered by compassionate professionals at a private opiate detox facility. In the end, there’s simply no substitute for the right kind of help from the right kind of people.
The best opiate detox programs are the ones administered in the most hospitable environments. With that in mind, it’s essential that you find an opiate detox center that feels like home. Only by finding a sustainable comfort zone can you expect to achieve the peace of mind upon which successf...

Heroin detox is an essential part of the heroin treatment process. Heroin detox programs help heroin abuse victims break the physiological bonds of addiction, thus preparing them to meet the emotional and psychological challenges of primary heroin rehab. To pursue heroin recovery without a thorough period of heroin detox is a recipe for failure. If you’re serious about getting sober, it’s absolutely vital that you seek competent care from a professional heroin detox facility.
The good news is that there are plenty of heroin detox facilities in Los Angeles. The bad news is that many of them fail to meet the needs of their clients. The fact of the matter is that heroin detoxification is a delicate process, and only those heroin drug detox programs designed specifically for individual pat...

As Stephen Colbert would say: “Welcome to the Report ladies and gentlemen.” Dr. Z’s Medical Report has a new home here on Everyday Health, and I am happy to welcome both old and new readers to my blog, which began in 2006 on HealthTalk. Although HealthTalk no longer exists as its own website, much of its content has been incorporated into the Everyday Health website, including all the postings of Dr. Z’s Medical Report. You can still search the blog using the little search box on the right side of the page and can still subscribe to it via RSS. Nothing has changed except for the owner of the website; namely, Everyday Health and I’m happy to be part of their team.

That blog became one of the most widely read items I’ve ever written, generating nearly 500 comments at last count. While some respondents disagreed and said that the pads had helped them, many writers agreed with my assessment of Kinoki as being a scam. That might sound like a bold statement, but the fact of the matter is that detox done right is first and foremost a hopeful experience. The key, of course, lies in your ability to find a drug detox facility that’s firmly committed to the well-being of its patients. There are plenty of options for drug detox in Los Angeles. Only some of them are good ones. Before you make a decision, then, it’s vital that you thoroughly research your options.
That comes as a surprise to many prospective detox patients, who’ve formed their impressions of detox facilities based on what they’ve seen in popular movies and TV documentaries. The good news, though, is that you can’t always trust what you hear from Hollywood. In fact, the right detox program can ensure that you come through the process with your mind and your body entirely intact.
In the end, the most successful detox programs are those administered by competent and compassionate professionals. The detox rehab center that’s right for you is the one that cares about your well-being, and devotes the most attention to your individual needs and your addiction recovery. Gentle and painless detox will quite literally change your life. All that remains is for you to take the first ste...

Lose the Weight.” I told him that all colon cleansing products are basically the same; namely, scams. The reason is that colon cleansing is wholly unnecessary and a complete waste of time, money and effort. Regardless of marketing hype, regardless of ingredients, regardless of method, regardless of testimonials, colon cleansing is quite purely and simply medical quackery. The one exception to this is when it’s prescribed medically as in preparation for an examination such as colonoscopy.
It is quite amazing how many websites there are devoted to colon cleansing and how many such products are being offered...

It’s basically a commercial scam
There is no evidence that products widely promoted to help the body “detox” work, scientists warn.
The charitable trust Sense About Science reviewed 15 products, from bottled water to face scrub, and found many detox claims were “meaningless”.
Anyone worried about the after-effects of Christmas overindulgence would get the same benefits from eating healthily and getting plenty of sleep, they said.
Eat healthily, sleep sufficiently, don’t smoke cigarettes and exercise regularly. That’s what you need and not any “detox” nonsense.

It’s the first full week of January and for many people that means starting a new diet. And for many of them the next week, the second week of January, will be when they “blow” their diet and go back to square one (and if not that week, shortly thereafter). That’s why the Healthy Weight Network sponsors Healthy Weight Week during the third week in January, which this year is January 18-24.
Malibu opiates detoxification is the only viable foundation for Malibu opiates rehab. The plain fact of the matter is that opiates addiction is a ferocious disease, and that the first stages of withdrawal can be exceptionally traumatic if patients don’t get the right kind of help. To that end, it’s vital that you enroll in a Malibu opiates detox program that can meet each and every one of your needs during your first few weeks of sobriety. Given the stakes, anything less than that simply isn’t good enough.
The good news is that Malibu opiates detox done the right way really will set you on the road to long-term opiates addiction recovery. The only catch is that you have to take the first step. Malibu opiates detox can only work if you let it work, by admitting that you have a problem...

Naltrexone Implant vs Suboxone: Mano a Mano!

I am going to share an interaction with a person who wrote to me about using the Naltrexone implant. I am always a bit suspicious about the motivations of people who want comments posted about a different type of treatment, or who come with pot-shots against Suboxone. I don’t go to methadone clinic sites or ads for rapid opiate detox and hound people for their choice of treatment—even though I don’t agree with their choices. But the point of my blog is to educate people (that better be the point, as it certainly isn’t a money-maker!), so I will share the material and let people decide what is right for themselves. I did make some comments at the end of the discussion—the owner of the blog gets the last word!– because there were some things written about Suboxone and Naltrex...

Top five health scams of 2008

It’s the time of year when annual “top” lists begin appearing everywhere like so many ornaments on the tree. So here’s Dr. Z’s roundup of the top five health scams of 2008:

Kinoki Detox Foot Pads

Kinoki and all other so-called detox foot pads top the list because of the sheer audacity involved in their shameless marketing and the utter lack of either a scientific basis through which they might work or any medical studies proving that they do. Yet we’ve received over 400 comments on my blog about them, attesting to the surprising interest people have in these worthless products. Despite their having been debunked on National Public Radio and the ABC news program “20/20″ inquiring minds still want to know, likely due to relentless marketing a...

Considering Suboxone in NE Wisconsin? Study Enrollment Ends Soon

I have talked a number of times about the fact that Suboxone is only a part of recovery from opiate dependence. I have been one of the docs recruiting patients for a study that looks at an additional component of treatment that is provided by telephone. Patients starting Suboxone for the first time for treatment of opiate dependence, or patients who have taken Suboxone in the past but not for at least three months, are eligible for the study (there are a couple other conditions that are relatively minor). What’s in it for you? If you participate for the full six months, you are paid a total of $225 by the organization doing the study.
Recruitment for the study will end at the end of 2008. So if you are ‘on the fence’ about starting treatment, or waiting until ...

The Morning Banana Diet: A scambuster report

The latest fad weight loss scheme is something called the Morning Banana Diet (MBD), which started in Japan and swept across the country like an unrelenting tsunami. It’s so popular there that bananas literally fly off the shelves as fast as they can be stocked. But you should be forewarned, Japan is known for its fad diets and there have been many others before this one that also were so big they caused product shortages. And, of course, like all fad diets, this one will likely lead to some weight loss in the short run but will fail in the long run, which is why they are always replaced by the next crazy idea. But this one actually has a hidden nugget of gold called resistant starch that I’ll explain a little later.
So what is the Morning Banana Diet? Like all fad diets, ther...

Chelation Study Called Off

Back in July, a study on chelation as a treatment for autistic children was put on hold due to safety concerns. Now the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) has called off the study, as reported in today’s Associated Press.
The statement says the agency decided the money would be better used testing other potential therapies for autism and related disorders.
The study had been on hold because of safety concerns . A study published last year linked a chemical used in the treatment to lasting brain problems in rats.
Chelation is based on the unproven notion that mercury in vaccines can be linked to autism.
It’s also noted that a study on chelation—–in which heavy metal are removed from the body—-would be tantamount to an “unethical experiment on chil...

Seems a band called Elbow has won the Nationwide Mercury Prize—-a “staple of UK music accolade-giving since 1992“—-for its album The Seldom Seen Kid. Considering the attention devoted by some “autism activists” (Safe Minds etc.) to the belief that vaccines or something in vaccines, like the mercury-based preservative thimerosal, can be linked to autism, there would indeed be some competition for, I don’t know, “most mad about mercury” and “best talking about detoxing autism.” Jenny McCarthy—now starting up a lifestyle line of non-toxic products—would be a fair contender, as would Evidence of Harm author David Kirby who has again and again “rebranded autism”—-renaming it vaccine-transmitted mercu...

Your Oxycontin Detox Experience

There are no guarantees in the Los Angeles Oxycontin detox process. Some exclusive Oxycontin treatment facilities in Los Angeles would have you believe that getting sober is simply a matter of going through the motions of an exclusive Oxycontin detox program. But that’s not the way it works. The truth is that Los Angeles Oxycontin detox is and must be a personal process, and can only succeed by virtue of a personal effort. If you’re going to get better, in other words, it’s going to be because you find the strength to work for it.
The fact that you’ve made it this far suggests that you don’t need to be told what’s at stake in the Los Angeles Oxycontin detox process. Suffice it to say that Oxycontin addiction is a devastating disease, and that no one ever beats it without help. ...

I'm wary, yes, of my husband's comments earlier tonight...but this other thing happened today that was very special. He gave me a $50 bill. He went to work even though he doesn't feel good, and he worked all day and earned $50. He brought that $50 home, and he gave it to me.There's so many parts of that experience that are really big for him...going to work without feeling good and working through his detox sickness...making money and having cash in his hands...choosing not to use with that money...choosing to give the money to me. That's big stuff, and I have to acknowledge that it's development. He's trying really hard to do something. I'm not sure what it is, and I don't think he knows, either...but he's trying. His face looks like it hurts to be him tonight. His body feels sweaty all ove...
