When asked how he’s shaking things up at Ford Model’s, John Caplan said, "I’m more like the conductor of an orchestra, than an old-fashioned executive.” Does that describe your approach? Caplan's orchestra metaphor reminds us that wherever you spot insights or innovations at a deeper level you’ll also see a maestro conductor, or facilitator. So why does it rarely happen?Instead of the fine interchanges found in peak-performance orchestras, you often find potentially good discussions truncated instead, because:- one voice dominates - strong demands for one-sided view- a few people diminishing other voices- anger rising whenever topics heat upWhile topnotch catalyst skills can be mastered by most … they rarely show up at firms, that la...

Psychologists: What is the PsyUSA Network?

The PsyUSA network is the oldest and largest independent online network of clinical psychologists. But like many large social networks, it is a part of the “hidden Internet” because it is conducted exclusively through electronic mailing lists (or “listservs,” after a type of popular software that runs them). It’s sort of like a global email alias. Mailing lists tend to be topic-based, and you can choose to receive th...

I think it’s been months since I last logged in to myLot. I guess I kind of missed the discussions, even the mundane ones. People will just never run out of questions to ask nor of answers to offer. That’s the beauty of our ability to think and communicate. It may cause us to be in argument most of the time, but it’s how we know that we’re not going to simply take in and swallow what’s shoved in front of us.
So, what is this myLot anyway?
I may have blogged about this already (but I can’t recall when I posted it…or if I posted it hehe) but still, let me just have another go at it.
myLot is a site where you can have some discussion about anything that interests you, post a general question and wait for users to comment on it. You can also ...

I was looking for the best way to explain what is blast to people with no background in biology/bioinformatics.
I thought I could to say it's a search engine:
- Blast is the same as google, but for biological sequences instead of search terms.
