Roche Filed Most Domain Arbitration Cases In ‘09

This can be a rather arcane corner of the world to watch, but glancing at the rate at which a company defends domain names can be interesting. For instance, it can tell you how aggressive their lawyers can be at defending various rights, such as intellectual property. And so DomainNameWire did just that to get a bead on the companies that were most active last year and the winner was Roche, followed by Lego. Another drugmaker, Sanofi-Aventis, was the sixth most-active filer.
Using data from UDRPSearch, Domain Name Wire tabulated the total number of UDRP cases filed by in 2009 and found that Roche filed 54 with the World Intellectual Property Organization and two with the National Arbitration Forum. A good many stemmed from efforts to take down sites promoting Tamiflu for swine flu. And Roc...

Arts education influences learning and other areas of cognition and may deserve a more prominent place in schools, according to a wave of recent neuroscience research. One recent study found that children who receive music instruction for just 15 months show strengthened connections in musically relevant brain areas and perform better on associated tasks, compared with students who do not learn an instrument.
A separate study found that children who receive training to improve their focus and attention perform better not only on attention tasks but also on intelligence tests. Some researchers suggest that arts training might similarly affect a wide range of cognitive domains. Educators and neuroscientists gathered recently in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., to discuss the increasingly detai...

July is shaping up to be a fascinating month, full of cognitive health research reports and applications. Here you have a roundup, covering cognitive assessments, mental training and DNA, and more.
1) U.S. Troops To Get Cognitive Screening (Hartford Courant)
- The military will begin giving cognitive tests this summer to troops heading to war, in an effort to get a baseline measure of their reaction time, memory, concentration and other brain functions, which could be referenced in case they are injured.
- Assistant Defense Secretary S. Ward Casscells recently directed military leaders to begin pre-deployment screening of troops by late-July, using a computer-based test known as the Automated Neuropsychological Assessment Metrics, or ANAM, a Department of Defense spokeswoman confirmed in...

Site Suspension: A Webmaster’s Nightmare

When I was just starting to blog, I feared of two things: not being able to generate blog traffic and site suspension. I had managed to work on the first one since I am now getting a satisfying number of page views per day. The latter was my worry before I switched to paid hosting from WebHostingBuzz.com. I’ve had several site suspension before, and termination at some point when I was still hosted by free hosts. I’ve had several site migration. Somehow, I blame this mishaps why my main blog (jammedph.com) is not visible now in search engine rankings and Google bot stopped crawling it.
But when I switched to paid host, I thought site suspension will no longer be a problem. But imagine to my disappointment and nightmare when I saw my site last night with a suspension notice. Ac...

Utilize Coupon Codes to Avail Discount on Domain Names and Hosting

Domain name registration these days costs an average of $9.00/year. It already sounds much for me. So I looked for ways that will give me cheaper domain registration. My first option was to search the web for cheap domain names. My second option is to use a coupon code to avail discount. But where do I get one?
Luckily, I found a great site which provides coupon promotional codes including those for domain names and hosting. Retail Me Not is an easy way to find online coupon codes.
Using the FEBLUV code (NameCheap’s coupon code for February) I got the domain name for only $8.41 from its original price of $9.96!
Promotional coupon codes for domain registration and hosting.

My domain and other sites, has been hosted since its birth in the blogosphere by Ejam Hosting through its post-to-host program for FREE.
I have been satisfied with their hosting because I am getting the features of a paid host for FREE and so far, Ejam has satisfied my qualifications for a free host. Unfortunately (or fortunately), since this blog has been widely visited these past days, I have to upgrade my bandwidth limit and storage capacity.
Although I was satisfied with the hosting, my fear of losing my website was still there. Because it’s a free hosting, I was afraid of instability in the future. I’ve experienced this dilemma with my previous free hosts. AhPlace, my first host, for example, has been one of the most-trusted free hosts but due to hacker attacks, click fr...

Ways to Avoid Domain Expiry

These past days, I thought I’d lose this site forever; my domain expired because of my carelessness. I have acquired this domain from Hostbidder for free through posting. Because it’s free, I should be ready for consequences, one of it is the expiration issues. And I thought I was, until I opened this site last week and it says the domain has expired. From that experience, I’ve learned 10 ways to avoid domain expiry.
1. Know the domain expiry date (of course!). Usually the expiry date falls on the same date one year after the creation date. If you are not sure about the expiry date, you can check your domain registrar or perform a whois lookup.
2. Remember the domain expiry date. Put reminders on your cell phone, on a notebook, or your computer, etc. Set the reminder 1 m...
