Every moment, we have an opportunity for self-growth. In fact, I was having one of those just yesterday.
It was about five in the evening and I was stuck in traffic. As cars attempted to race past me, getting just a mere two cars ahead, I started to think about the frustration and impatience we all seemed to be feeling in the moment.
Would I choose to give into the overwhelming negativity all around me? Or would I drown out the sounds of car engines and frustration with the radio and the TV I could see in the van directly in front of me?
I decided to use this unpleasant situation for my benefit by fully being in the moment. I saw the dark clouds looming overhead, the lights from cars shining through it and the feeling of impatience that was slowly taking over me.

Well, time flies in the blogging world, my friends, and today Digital Doorway turns four years old! Born in January of 2005 at the suggestion of my ever-supportive older brother, it's hard to believe that this blog has been in existence for so many years, with an average of 250 posts per year. While this blog has centered mostly around thoughts on nursing, medicine, health care, and my professional experiences in nursing, I have also tried to imbue it with some philosophy, spirituality, notes on American culture, and stories of my own personal life and world. I always hope that the multifaceted nature of my posts is interesting enough for my readers, and although many nurses appear to read Digital Doorway, I also seem to have readers who are not directly connected to medicine or nursing.Loo...

I’m going on my very first cruise in April, and I’m a little worried about the incidental expenses. I’ve heard horror stories from other recent college grads (read: other folks like me who count their pocket change) who’ve gotten huge bills on their final day for alcohol, food, and other services they’d assumed would be free on their (supposedly) all-inclusive vacation.
And last night, appropriately, I dreamed that it cost twenty-five cents to walk through any and all doorways on our cruise ship. I’d walk into the restroom, and I’d be forced to shell out a quarter. I’d walk out, and it would cost another quarter! Quarters for entering and exiting restaurants; quarters for the pleasure of visiting the ice machine or the game room. I needed r...

The only thing missing from this picture is the coffee cup!
Our one-and-only Grunt Doc takes on hosting duties for Grand Rounds for the sixth time (and yes, the April Fool’s edition counted!).
This marks the 200th edition!
Be sure to read from the bottom up. My post is the last one in the list.
