Cambridge Consultants and India’s Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company (SPARC) have developed a new dry powder inhaler. According to the companies, the device delivers an even, consistent drug dose deep into the lungs regardless of how strong the inhalation is performed by the patient.
From the press release:
The device employs a novel de-agglomeration engine to separate the drug from the lactose ‘carrier’ particles. Based on a highly efficient airway design, the patented drug separation mechanism has successfully completed clinical trials and demonstrated that it is capable of delivering significantly more of the drug to the deep lung than traditional inhalers. In practice, this will minimise side effects from drug build-up in the back of the throat, reduce non-systemic ...

Are E-Cigarettes Actually Drug-Delivery Devices?

An interesting battle is taking place between a group of companies and the FDA over E-cigarettes. Never heard of them? These are battery-powered tubes that turn nicotine-laced liquid into a vapor mist. The marketers say their items are safer than cigarettes because there no toxins and some consumers seem to love them as they try to quit smoking. They even have a club (look here or watch the video). The cost is $40 to $120 for a starter kit, and then pay smaller amounts for liquid refills, according to The Wall Street Journal.
However, as the paper notes, the FDA is fighting to regulate the products as drug-delivery devices, similar to the way nicotine gums, patches or other nicotine-replacement products are regulated. Of course, this would subject e-cigarettes to lengthy and expensive tria...

You just can’t make this stuff up:
The underwear project, spearheaded by the nanoengineering professor, was funded by the U.S. military and its effectiveness will likely be tested on the battlefield.
“This specific project involves monitoring the injury of soldiers during battlefield surgery,” Wang told Reuters. “The goal is to develop minimally invasive sensors that can locate, in the field, and identify the type of injury.”
Ultimately, the waistband sensors will be able to direct the release of drugs to treat the wounded soldier.
I wonder what other creative uses our men in uniform will find for this? I can hear it now: “It’s not the size of the device, honey, it’s the metronome that’s in it!” (Heh.)

The initial blog addressed a product called Glucose RapidSpray. The reader feedback, as well as the regulatory affairs response, is listed below. In no way, does Generex imply this product is to be used to treat hypoglycemia.
The comment to the original post stated:
The nutritional label on the product (available as a PDF on their web site) says the product has 188mg of carbs (or .188g) per serving (5 sprays). A typical glucose tablet has 4g... that's about 21x more carbs in a single glucose tablet than in 5 sprays of RapidSpray. Considering you typically us...
