I had the pleasure of attending the Cre:ate Cruise, with Michael Hyatt, Randy Elrod, Pete Wilson, and Ken Davis, over the last week. During the first sea day of the cruise I had a chance to pitch a book proposal to Michael. It was an amazing experience, and Mike gave me a lot of great feedback. My proposal was based on a book about success topics we cover here at Success Begins Today.
Mike helped me refine my ideas and zero in on a specific area for the book. He also suggested that I get an agent to help me interface with different publishers. Overall I left with some great knowledge to move further along in the process.
The next day we docked in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. My wife and I took an excursion to Dunn River Falls, where I attempted to climb to to the top of the cascading 600 foot water...

By Michael F. CannonOne year ago today, President Barack Obama signed ObamaCare into law. I recap ObamaCare's first year in my latest Kaiser Health News column. Here's some additional news surrounding the law's anniversary.
Politico reports that supporters won't have the vast war chest to defend the law that they once said they would:
Democrats are under siege as they mark the first anniversary of health care reform Wednesday — and they won't get much help from the star-studded, $125 million support group they were once promised...[N]ine months later, the Health Information Campaign has all but disappeared. Its website hasn't been updated since the end of last year. Its executive director and communications director are gone. There's no sign that it has any money. And neither [former sen...

This morning kicked off the 10th Annual ePharma Summit's Workshop Day.Craig DeLarge, Novo NordiskTwo year cycles are best to look at social media. It takes a year to educate, a year to pilot and a year to execute for any new medium that should be implemented. At the head should be an innovative and creative leader to serve as a champion. It’s important to match the new media with the media learning and lifestyles of the customer. Organization must be able to see the use of the customer in terms of the media. Co-creation is key for innovation – this includes new efforts in New Media.DeLarge also gives a Social Media Primer.
It turns out that whoever said money can’t buy you happiness was wrong.
Money can buy you happiness, as long as you give some of the money away.
Dunn and colleagues (2008) conducted three studies that examined the relationship between Americans’ spending habits and their self-reported happiness. The first study was a national survey conducted on 632 Americans that asked to detail their income and spending habits. The participants were also asked to rate their general happiness level.
The researchers found that two things were correlated with greater general happiness levels — higher income (naturally) and spending on gifts for other people or money given to charity.
One could argue, well, hey, of course having more income can make you happy… But maybe it&#821...

We were walking down the West Side Highway in Manhattan on Saturday when Charlie started running and laughing. Jim and I saw that we were nearing the shed where you can take out a canoe into the Hudson River—-we had passed the shed back in April and met a retired longshoreman who’d noted how he likes to be near the water, and exchanged stories of the waterfront and Cockeye Dunn, a New York mobster who’s one of the characters in the book about the port of New York and New Jersey and the Waterfront priest that Jim is very, very close to finishing.
“Want a kayak ride?” asked Jim.
“Yes!” said Charlie. He paced back and forth pier 96 with the river splashing below him as Jim filled out some forms and I coaxed Charlie to put on a life vest. “No ves...

Gratitude? Happiness Points?Sure. Why not? They finally have some Traveling Wilburys out on iTunes. This makes me happy. I woke up during the night (okay, technically it was some time this morning since I didn't get to sleep until well past 2) with an idea for NaNoWriMo. I actually had the presence of mind to write it down in the notebook I had beside my bed. (No, I will not tell, so do not ask... I am superstitious enough to believe this will jinx me...) I typically do not go into November with an idea that sticks. The idea I end up with at the end of 50k is something that comes about three or four false-starts into the month sometime a week or so in. This makes me wonder if I should save this one until I've made a few different attempts. I did not make it through the Lovecraft book over t...

I went to bed half an hour ago with the best intentions of getting more sleep tonight than I did last night (when I ended up watching the first episode of the new season of Grey's Anatomy online - don't get me started about that...) and here I am online... Might have something to do with the coffee I mainlined (kidding) today bouncing between The Mighty Dunn and The Green Tree, the all organic fair-trade, shade-grown coffee shop where my daughter is now employed. (I just learned that October is not only Breast Cancer Awareness month, but also Fair Trade month!)It suddenly popped into my head as I was lying here thinking about coffee and various people that I have met in my travels far and wide to various coffee shops that while I am spending most of my free time and some work time too, if ...

Taken some action. Decided to get away from the decidedly smelly state of my being holed up in my decidedly smelly bed as it wasn't helping my headache any today. So I forced myself up and made a cup of coffee. While it was steeping, I stripped the sheets off the bed and tossed them in the washer. I had a small bowl of cereal and then did yoga for stress headaches. When I woke from the last position on my mat on the floor, I laughed and thought again about what a great voice the narrator/instructor has for creating a calm and relaxed state. The headache lingers. But I showered and got dressed and headed out into the world for some coffee in public and some computer work. I have to get the website done. Soon. I have as company the chatter of conversational French two tables over. It is beau...

Last week I spent a very pleasant and productive two days attending a conference organized by Autism West Midlands and the Autism Awareness Centre. It was very well organized and the content was both interesting and practical. I also had the pleasure of meeting Maureen Bennie, one of the organizers, whom readers may remember from an earlier blog post of mine. My only regret was that I had to leave early to catch my train and so missed the closing presentation, “Understanding My Autism” by John Simpson.
The headline speaker was Temple Grandin. Having read her books and heard her speak before, I found little that was new in her presentation. She did make it abundantly clear that she struggled with abstract concepts and had to be able to ...
