Faith In Healthcare Is Falling

A newly-created index of consumer healthcare confidence has fallen steadily this year, reports The Thomson Reuters Consumer Healthcare Sentiment Index. Consumers report declining confidence in their ability to access, use, and pay for healthcare. The index, set at a baseline of 100 in December 2009, is now at 97.
More consumers reported difficulty paying for services and insurance, or reported a reduction or cancellation of their insurance. More delayed or failed to fill a prescription in the past three months or canceled a diagnostic test (such as blood work, X-ray or mammogram). Further, consumers expect the situation to worsen in the next three months, including putting off elective surgery.
Thomson will report figures monthly and has published their methodology online.

Poor Shoe Choices Now Mean Foot Pain Later

You really want those gorgeous heels in the window, you like wearing your flip flops every day, or you just have to have the latest style of pointy toes – but watch what type of shoes you wear. The kind of shoes you wear as a young adult will have a strong impact on the health of your feet later on in life.
I’d classify this particular study as a Duh study if it weren’t so serious. After all, we do know that certain types of shoes can cause problems, such as bunions, hammertoes and fallen arches. We also know that more women have foot problems than do men. So do we really need a study to tell us that we’re doing it to ourselves?
Researchers in the United States studied 3372 people (1900 women) to evaluate the health of their feet. The study findings were published i...

My life before 9/11…..well about 4 months before.
This seems like such a boring week compared to the last one. No Tura Satana, no Midnight Meat Train, no Fetish Fair, no failed attempt to get a photo with Stephan Dion. It seems rather quiet.
The city is gearing up for the Toronto Film Festival, or for those in the know, TIFF. I’ve never really participated in the festival. When I think of it, I think of the hundreds of people lined up waiting to get in to where ever they are going, all the while reading books and stuff like that.
However there are some parties that go on, and I’ll see if I can get to any. This is all new to me, so I’m not sure how successful I’ll be, but it’s worth a shot.
Being the long weekend, I would have thought there would have bee...

Journalist and cancer patient Leroy Sievers is dead. He was 53 years old. Many National Public Radio fans know his name, as do former viewers of the TV news show Nightline.
I became aware of Sievers on a subliminal level in April 2004 when I watched the controversial Nightline program “The Fallen,” which Sievers initiated. At that time I was almost paralyzed with fear of recurrence, and I saw myself in every solder’s face that passed across the TV screen.
I became aware of Sievers in a more direct way after he responded to a comment made by Mitt Romney’s wife. From Sievers’ blog entry Cancer Is Not the Lesser of Evils dated July 27, 2007:
I was reading the current issue of People magazine. Yes, I’m a subscriber. One of the articles is about Ann Romne...
