Today is Lauren’s birthday and so her Fill in the Blank Friday, which is kinda perfect, because my birthday was last Saturday! Yay for Leo birthdays!

My most favorite birthday was both my 25th and 26th birthday parties. Lots of friends and Erik, dinner (or this year, dessert) out in NYC. Very fun!
My worst birthday was my 17th. I didn’t plan a party and none of my friends were around on my birthday, which, being in the summer, was typically during a lot of vacations. It sucked. I remember crying.
My favorite birthday memory is celebrating my 18th birthday in Paris with my mom. We didn’t actually do anything particularly special that day (my birthday dinner was Chinese food in the Louvre food court) but just being there was pretty awesome.
The best birthday present I&#82...

My favorite color is purple, in case you can’t tell.
My travel destination of choice is an historic city, preferably in Europe.
My favorite food is popcorn. I would eat it every day if I could. One of my favorite things we got for our wedding was an air-pop popcorn maker! And yes, we did register for it. And by we, I mean I registered for it.
My happy place is wherever my husband is. Oh go on, you know you want to: Awwww.
My favorite saying is “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” It’s the inspiration for the title of this blog and it has basically become my life’s motto.
My dirty little secret is that I hate washing dishes. And we don’t have a dishwasher. When I lived alone and I didn’t have a dishwasher, it would take me days to get to ...

One of my happiest moments ever was the day Erik proposed to me. It might seem strange not to pick our wedding day, but the wedding was stressful and a little nerve-wracking and even during the ceremony I was thinking “I hope I know what I’m doing and that I don’t mess anything up!” But the day Erik and I got engaged, we decided to wait to tell anyone. We went to the High Line park and then we had dinner at our favorite restaurant, One If By Land, Two If By Sea, which is so cozy and romantic. It was just us the whole day and it was wonderful.
Summer is wedding season and weddings are lovely and wonderful but man oh man I never want to plan one ever again! Bring on the invitations though. I love going to weddings!
This summer has been so busy! This week is the longes...

Hosted by Lauren.

This weekend I’m hanging out with a friend and finishing some of our wedding planning before I leave for Oregon next week!
My last vacation was to Chicago over Memorial Day Weekend. We were there for a wedding.
My next vacation will be my honeymoon in Oregon! I promise to give more detail soon. Technically, I am going to Oregon next week, but that’s to finish wedding planning so it’s not much of a vacation, followed by a week in San Diego for business.
My favorite way to relax is going to the movies alone. I love sitting in a dark theater and not having to talk to anyone for two hours.
When vacationing one should always arrive with only one must-do item for every day you’re there. It anchors your day in something you want to do, so you don&#8...

If I could get away somewhere for the weekend I would go to New England, because it’s beautiful and its close and I would bring my fiance.
Something I often rant about is the cost of things in New York City. This place is so friggin’ expensive. It takes awhile, but you eventually you stop batting an eye at spending $70 for a dinner for two. It just is what it is.
One item I need to have in my fridge at all time is string cheese. I currently have two unopened packs of string cheese. That’s how ridiculous my obsession is. I have a string cheese almost every day.
My “life-saving” product is insulin. Duh. OK, that’s a boring answer. My real life saving product is my iPhone. I really don’t know what I would do without it.

My favorite daily responsibility is anything to do with DiabetesMine. I feel so lucky that I get to work on that website, so whether I’m reviewing a new product, interviewing someone about their amazing accomplishments or just spreading the word on our Facebook page and Twitter account, I always love my list of to-dos!
My least favorite daily responsibility is doing the dishes. When Erik and I first moved in together, I was the cook and he did the dishes. But I actually really don’t like cooking! So I made him do it, and I do the dishes. Which I also don’t like doing, but it’s slightly easier to put off than having to make a meal.
My favorite cuisine to eat when going out is Indian. We never make Indian food at home, so it’s one of the few things we go out for...

Something that makes me a great friend is that I’m a great listener and I’m pretty good at giving good advice. I just wish I was better at taking my own!
I am a writer, a believer, freakishly good at directions, and counting down the days until my wedding.
I am not a patient person, happy with this cloudy weather, good with number and in possession of a functioning person.
If I had to describe myself in 3 words, they would be creative, happy, and an observer.
Something I’m really cheap about is shoes. I can’t bring myself to spend hundreds of dollars on shoes. I buy most of my shoes on discount at DSW, and even then, I only own a handful of pairs.
Something I’m willing to splurge on is on traveling. I definitely value experiences, whether it’s spending ...

The best deal I’ve ever gotten is anything from an antique store or garage sale. I love the mirror in our hallway ($18) and the painted tray on our coffee table ($32). We also have a table in our breakfast knook that was free! So that’s a pretty good deal.
If I were hosting a dinner party and could invite people from my fantasy guest list it would include a lot of really funny, smart people. I would invite famous people like Barack Obama, Stephen Colbert, John Stewart and Oprah to keep people on their toes and keep the conversation meaningful, yet fun. I would also love to invite Natalie Portman and Barbara Walters. And maybe Charlie Rose, only because I’d like to see what happens when you get him in a room with a bunch of people. Who knows where the conversation would go...

Holiday spirit disappears as you age. When I was a kid, Christmas was my favorite time of year. Going out to see the Christmas lights at Portland’s International Raceway, going to the Grotto to hear the choir, watching the Nutcracker and reading the Polar Express. But now? Mostly I’m just worried about not crashing my budget on presents but making sure I buy something people will like! What kind of celebration of Jesus’ birth is that?
The holidays are incomplete without holiday decor. I really don’t feel a shift in the season until the tinsel and ornaments and baby Jesus in His manager are out and on display. Otherwise, it just looks like the rest of the year, and what fun is that?

My favorite things to do around the holidays is look at Christmas lights. I am reall...

The Short Guide to Finding Fulfillment

If you would ask me what is the one thing most people in our society need, I would say fulfillment. One of the most complex human emotions and in my perspective, one of the noblest things to aim for in life. It is also something many people are far from reaching, and even far from understanding.
Finding fulfillment has been a big topic in my life in the past few years, so big that it sort of overflowed and I ended up helping other people through my coaching to find fulfillment as well. There are lots of things to say on this topic. But I’ll keep it simple, in presenting my 4 steps guide to finding fulfillment.
Step 1: Understand what fulfillment is. As an emotion, fulfillment is something very different from pleasure or other positive emotions. Pleasure is the basic positive emotion you ...

Feel free to play along!

1. My last haircut was at the beginning of October. My bangs got a bit chopped off last year, and now I’m working with a lovely woman in Manhattan who does my hair. She’s a few years older than me and she is the first hairdresser who I actually want to talk to! She gives me hugs when she sees me.

2. My most daring hair moment was When I was about 13, I cut my hair all the way up to my chin. Everyone thought it made me look so mature, but my hair has a wave in it and after I washed it, it just looked terrible and was really hard to keep it looking good. That’s...

CONCLUSION Monsanto, Dupont, Calgene, and Novartis have become major players in the new global genetically engineered food business. Their genetic engineering industry are now releasing untested genetically engineered foods on the world population, claiming they intend to solve problems of world hunger. They have lobbied for regulatory loopholes that allow them to rush their experimental foods to market. You can protect yourself and your family by shopping to avoid these foods, but how we can stop the proliferation of these experimental foods?
