Avoid APA’s InPsych Social Networking App

I’m off to attend the annual meeting of the American Psychological Association (APA) in San Diego today, but before I go, I do have two APA-related news items to post. The first is about the APA’s social networking application it deployed for this year’s convention, called InPsych. It’s a great idea with one fatal flaw that makes it not only something I suggest you avoid, but something I recommend the APA disable access to immediately.
The idea behind the social networking app is a good one — help people plan their convention schedule and meet up with other psychologists or psychology students while in San Diego. It’s a big convention with over 10,000 attendees every year, so it’s nice to have some way of keeping the information organized and at yo...

You Can Count on Nutrition At Your Fingertips for Food Advice

Everybody eats. But not everybody is a food and nutrition expert. Good advice can sometimes be as hard to find as an H1N1 vaccine! But don’t fear, registered dietitian and author Elisa Zied has you covered in her latest book “Nutrition At Your Fingertips” (NAYF). I scored an interview with the MSNBC contributor. Read on to find out more about her book and get some excellent nutrition advice from a real expert.

Can you give me an “insiders peek” into NAYF, what is it?

Nutrition at Your Fingertips is part of Alpha Books’ At Your Fingertips series of books. It is designed to give you answers to your basic and not-so-basic nutrition questions quickly, accurately, and reliably. The book is highly formatted and jam-packed with food, nutrition, and even fitne...

A Facelift And New Home For Healthbolt.

I knew changes were coming but still, it was a shock when I clicked onto Healthbolt today and discovered that all the red had gone.
It was like the blood had been drained out of it.
In fact, I had to look twice to make sure I was at the right blog.
I wonder if everyone feels like that when they have a facelift?
But like any good facelift, what’s underneath stays the same.
Healthbolt is still going to supply the interesting, the intriguing, the entertaining, the bizarre, and sometimes down right gross in the world of health and wellness.
So what do you think about Healthbolt’s new look, and more importantly, Healthbolt’s new digs at BlissTree?
Personally, I think you’re going to love it. The BlissTree portal from b5Media has everything about health at your fingertips...

I Own A New Ascensia Breeze 2 Glucometer- Any Comments?

I have a new glucometer… finally. My mom actually grabbed it from her doctors office for me. I won’t even go into the story of what happened to my old one! Painful at best.
It is the Ascensia Breeze 2 system. We will see how it goes. So far it is very easy to use and seems friendly. As friendly as a blood sugar measuring device can be, haha.
I have no idea what the cost of the supplies are but I will find out in the morning when I go to get the disc refills. It uses a 10-strip disc cartridge so it is no touch and convenient. The lancets that it came with look the same as my old ones but they felt so much better. I guess I can splurge and buy their name brand, especially if it stays pain free. No more sore fingertips!!!
I will keep you posted. My first reading was 126 at 7:30PM,...

Here’s My Story And I’m Stickin’ To It

It’s been a while since I have written about my own life with diabetes. I think I am like a moon, I wax and wane. I will have 3 good weeks where my body responds wonderfully to my diet and then a week or so where it seems not to matter what I do. And yes you guessed it, I am currently in the week that stinks. I have been over the top with watching what I eat and have been moving and grooving all over the place with more than enough physical activity. But the ol’ sugars are a bit up.
I know that in a weeks time, they will be back to “normal”. And I so think that this is directly related to my hormones, if you know what I mean? “I will remain calm and not throw my glucometer across the room”. That is what I keep repeating to myself when I see those stupid ...
