There comes a time in everyone’s consciousness and life when one realizes that too many things are going off beam and that life is becoming more problematic day by day, especially now when it comes to our health, which probably is our most valued personal possession, and which seems to be undermined in various and sundry ways and fashions.
Let’s examine some of the medical ‘fashions’ for starters, since most healthcare consumers think that those professionals wearing white coats topped with stethoscopes really know what they are talking about.
White Coats and Cigarettes
First, and foremost, I’d like to remind everyone that MDs were proud to recommend Camels cigarettes as the brand most doctors preferred and smoked. Don’t believe me; check out this advertisement http://www.y...

FLUORIDE: How WRONG Can Health Agencies Be? Fluoride is a 50-year example!
Well, on Friday, Jan 7th, federal health officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finally admitted that American’s are getting too much fluoride, and for the first time in nearly 50 years, reduced the recommended level from 1.2 parts per million to 0.7. That’s a reduction of nearly 50%! (http://www.askdrgarland.com/?p=3749)

FLUORIDE IS KILLING US Fluoride is killing us adults. It’s time to eliminate fluoridation. More children are swallowing toothpaste, getting fluoride in their soft drinks, fruit juices, and dental fluoride application, and are getting fluoride intoxication by the age of eight. The government is now recommending reducing the level of fluoride in drinking water by 40%. After 65 years of fluoridation in 64% of American families,, researchers find that over 40% of our children before the age of 15 have spotting or streaking under their teeth( up by 50% over The last decade). The fluoride makes the tooth enamel become harder and more opaque. The light bouncing off the the enamel causes spots and streaks to occur. &nb...

It’s interesting that we find conspiracy theorists that think fluoride is a communist plot. I don’t think there’s been a more successful campaign in medicine as the addition of fluoride in the public water supply to reduce caries. We know fluoride works. Now we also have to think about the Baby Boomer Generation – people who will keep their teeth longer than ever. With the recession and economy as it stands today, Baby Boomers are prone to tooth decay 1) as they retain their teeth longer, 2) as they may not prioritize dental care due to finances or time constraints, and 3) their dexterity deteriorates an interferes with proper oral homecare.
In my office, we’ve moved away from fluoride gels and toward the fluoride varnish by 3M. I like this product because after a standard prophy...

You walk into a health food store and find a flyer that warns of the hazards fluoridated water. What’s this all about? Fluoride is in half of the public water in the US. It is accepted by some, including the government, that fluoride deters tooth decay, thus it is good for public health. However, a study published in 2006 in the Journal of Evidence Based Dental Practice provided these facts:

Fluoride does not have to be delivered in the water supply
Fluoride does not have to be ingested to protect teeth
Caries has declined at the same rate in countries with/without fluoridated water
The public receives fluoride from sources other than public water supply
Studies show that fluoride can cause a list of adverse side effects

What You Should Know
Fluorine, the ionic form of fluoride, is use...

If you live in a community where your water contains flouride but you give your children bottled water to drink - they’re not getting any of the fluoride benefits.
Dentists are, for the most part, in favor of flouridating drinking water. There has been a dramatic improvement in the teeth of children who drink flouridated water. The flouride plays an important role in preventing cavities and making teeth stronger. However, to benefit from the fluoride, you have to get it.
According to a press release issued by the Academy of General Dentistry ,
“With soda and energy drinks being as popular as they are, not to mention the attractiveness of sugary snacks, children’s mouths are constantly fighting cavity-causing bacteria. Something as simple as drinking water from the tap is...

I have not the slightest doubt that the fluoridation of water supplies improves the state of teeth. I also believe that such fluoridisation is entirely safe. But that is not the point.Fluoride will be added to tap water in Southampton after health bosses voted through the plans despite protests. It is the first time a health trust in England, rather than water companies, has been allowed to introduce fluoridation under new laws. The idea has proved controversial with 72% of 10,000 respondents in a public consultation opposing the plan. Despite the opposition, the South Central Strategic Health Authority (SCSHA) unanimously backed the move. The SCSHA will now write to Southern Water instructing the firm to increase levels of fluoride from a natural 0.08 part per million to one part per mill...

Greetings all.Tonight, here in Burlington, VT the water fluoridation issue took the main stage at the first televised mayoral debate. For several minutes the mayoral candidates responded to a question asked by SwabVT.org co-founder, Geoff Golder. The Question:"The American Dental Association recommends that children under the age of twelve months not consume fluoridated drinking water, and both the State Department of Health and the Burlington Board of Health concur with this stance. The Burlington Board of Health recently recommended to the City Council that the city take a precautionary stance towards community water fluoridation by discontinuing the practice. What would you do to ensure safe drinking water for the children of Burlington, considering that our city's water is fluoridated?...

The National Institute of Health is giving $16 million to Dr. Hyun Koo of Eastman Dental Center to promote research for preventing tooth decay. As you know, decay is rampant across the globe. At this point, we attack tooth decay on the backend, repairing a tooth with restorations after decay strikes. We do have CariFree®, a system that allows dentists to determine a patient’s risk for decay based on analyzing biofilm. The dentist can then create a proactive plan to reduce potential for cavities. The plan often includes CariFree’s xylitol- and fluoride-rich products. Koo’s research is even more proactive. His team discovered a combination of natural elements that reduce biofilm production. They aim to revoke oral bacteria’s ability to make the acids and polymers tha...

The high point of my Monday occurred around 8.45am. I was one of four adults standing around Charlie, who was reclining in a chair with a certain glint in his eye as he followed, and didn’t follow, our requests to “open your mouth” and “put your hands down” and “just a little longer!”

For the past two years, “going to the dentist” has been something we’ve been working on regularly with Charlie. His home ABA therapists taught him to keep his mouth open and his hands down (two very bas...

Knockout Blow for Fluoride?
Just when I thought fluoride’s reputation couldn’t possibly take another hit, it gets hit with what could be a knockout blow. What sent fluoride possibly down for the count was the discovery by a Canadian Toxocologist that fluoride may indeed lower a person’s IQ! The Toxicologist, Dr. Vyvyan Howard was so convinced by the results of his study that he has joined the growing movement calling for an end to fluoride use in areas where it has been strategically introduced into the water supply.
The fluoride debate has picked up in recent years, as more and more evidence suggests that fluoride is toxic, and could be hurting us more than it helps. I think the mounting evidence is beginning to convince me. If you’ll remember back to the video I p...
