Although trauma protocols differ slightly from center to center, most major trauma centers use criteria similar to the following to activate a level 1 (i.e., highest) response: 1. Blood pressure < 90 mmHg in adults and age specific hypotension in children 2. Intubated patients or presence of respiratory compromise 3. Ongoing blood transfusion or intravenous fluid administration to maintain vital signs 4. Penetrating trauma to the neck, chest, abdomen, flanks, proximal leg above the knee, proximal arm above the elbow 5. Glasgow coma scale 8 or less 6. It was a bit of a grey day in Glasgow on Thursday but at least it was dry and fairly mild. We took the subway to Kelvingrove. Walking up from the station, we crossed the River Kelvin and the first thing we saw when we looked over the bridge was an empty Buckie bottle floating down the water. However, this was not the part of Glasgow's colourful culture had came to see.Kelvingrove Art Galleries & Museum had recently opened again after a couple of years of work on "improvements".I was dissapointed as I thought part of the improvements would have bringing out previously stored and unseen exhibits out on display. First impressions are that quite a few of the old exhibits have been removed and in their place themed zones with boards and information screens put up. A bit sad really cos I can get...

In the last post I mentioned that I have never felt very patriotic. The truth is, I have never really felt part of anything. This is not a complaint but simply a matter of fact statement, similar to “I have never been to Antarctica”.My parents had children soon after they married. Years later, my mother went to the doctor to inform him she had reached the menopause. He informed her she was pregnant. Some months later I was dragged kicking and screaming into a world where my siblings were almost grown up. They were “the boys” and I was “the wean” (for the purpose of this tale, I’ll conveniently forget my sister who bridged the gap between us).
