Telecommuting to work is a big trend: It’s the cheaper, greener, and affords workers more time at home with families, instead of in a car or on a train. Whether you are part of a company that is based across the country or if you’re just more comfortable working from home, there are tons of web-tools that can make your virtual work experience as efficient as if you were really there. Fast Company clued us in to some tools for a seamless virtual workday.
Skype: You can either use Skype as an instant message client, or as a video chat tool. You could even leave it open all day if you wanted to be an ever-present fixture in the base office. Talking “face to face” can be a lot easier than trying to communicate via instant message.

In a world driven by data, we need a simple means of digesting it all. Visualization of data may help to coop with the information overload. Good visualizations enable people to look at vast quantities of data quickly.

In a previous post I wrote about how great new web tools are making it easier for scientists to collaborate, find information, and share information. This light-hearted introduction was rather popular, so heres’s a tongue-in-cheek video version. (Source: Bioinformatics Zen)

OpenOffice Google Docs extension

More reasons to use both Google Docs and OpenOffice: the OpenOffice.org2GoogleDocs extension. Allows you to upload from OO to Google Docs or download from Google Docs to OO. Requires that your JRE is set up correctly in OO and is Java 6.
Without realising it I’ve become a big user of Google Docs, mostly by importing from GMail attachments. On rare occasions I find the 500 KB maximum file size to be a problem - I’d suggest 1 MB is a more sensible minimum - but it does encourage people to keep embedded content out of their text documents.
On the topic of word processor alternatives, AbiWord has come a long way and now boasts a seriously-useful plugin list. (Source: What You're Doing Is Rather Desperate)

I like the application of google which is part of google docs - "Google Presentations".I tried it several times. It seems that combine all the features with IM tool is giving it great benefit.I spoked yesterday with another person who watched the same presentation as me at the same time. Not suprisingly, we found a lot of common and shared a lot of knowledge. The starting point for ours discussion was the subjects regarding the presentation- web 2.0.For doctors it can give added value to find other professionals in their field and talk with them live. So simple but so friendly and useable. As i mentioned, the subject was web 2.0. Here is the link for the presentation ( you need to have Googles account). One interesting idea behind the presentation is "collaboration concept".You can write to th...
