            <title>H.A.L.T. for Health</title>

            <description>HALT. Don&amp;#8217;t get too hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. 
As a codependent I use this reminder to help me set healthy limits for myself, which I never learned as a child of an alcoholic. 
In the past, I often believed I should be able to go for days without food or sleep. I also tested the limits of my ability to handle enormous doses of stress and isolation without tending to my own emotional needs.
Al-Anon has taught me a gentler, simpler way of caring for myself. 
I find it of great benefit to have a brief list of the most basic areas in which I neglect my own well-being: nourishment, emotional wellness, fellowship, and physical rest.

First, is my stomach rumbling? Then I need to stop what I&amp;#8217;m doing and eat some food. 
Am I too angry about the trivial details of my life? If so ...</description>

As adjuncts to the Alcoholics Anonymous spiritual program and meetings, there are clichés, systems, gimmicks, and a myriad of other tricks that have been used by AA members down through the years to maintain sobriety.
I, for one, strongly uphold the application of the foremost of these, the &amp;#8220;RULE of HALT,&amp;#8221; not only for the new members, but for the old-timer as well.

            <description>My wife, Caryn and I were talking the other day about my next options for MS disease modifying therapies.
As many of you know, interferon treatments are out for me.  Copaxone is prohibitively expensive (and because of Medicare Part B, I am not eligible for drug company assistance) and I’ve used my lifetime maximum of Novantrone.  That would seem to leave Tysabri as our only (FDA approved) option.
Then we started talking about the HALT-MS (high-dose immunosuppression and autologous stem cell transplantation for MS) study as a possible option.  HALT-MS is an experimental treatment for multiple sclerosis which is showing some very impressive results.

            <description>Here we go again. The word sex&amp;#8230; Oh boy you say? There is a new book that has hit bookshelves and boy is it ever needed. When was the last time anyone in the health care profession asked you about your sex life? Probably a very long time.
Funny thing is that sexual dysfunction and sexual changes are very natural and common among many who suffer from diseases such as diabetes. And why be embarrassed? We all do it right (if not the human race would have come to a screeching halt)?
The book Sex and Diabetes For Him and For Her has answers to vacuum pumps, erectile dysfunction, orgasms, decreased vaginal sensitivity and every other worry or question you could possibly come up with. It is presented in a very real, nonthreatening tone and the writers hit the nail on the head in my opinion.
