“And That’s When It All Came Together”
There are moments in life when everything clicks. Synchronicity. Poetry in motion. Bliss. Those moments on our journey when the map suddenly seems so clear and our destination so much closer. It can be a moment of insight or learning, a realignment of our priorities or perhaps just a stunning instant of clarity. Regardless, they are sacred moments in our human experience.
This month, in true EMT Spot fashion, I asked EMS bloggers from around the world to share with you their sacred moments of clarity when everything came together. I hope you enjoy the stories of these fellow travelers. All of us share the experience of stumbling down life’s road looking for a signpost to point the way. One of the most amazing things about br...

May is here and The Handover Blog Carnival is back. On Thursday, May 27th, I’ll be posting the latest incarnation of The Handover right here at The EMT Spot. I hope you’ll be a part of it.
After a brief hiatus and a change of ownership, The Handover is now under the watchful guidance of two great voices in the EMS blogshphere. Andrew Giebel from the blog From A Probies Eyes and Joel Nield, better known as Rescue Monkey are now the keepers of all things Handover.
So let’s get to it. In true EMT Spot fashion, this month’s Handover is dedicated to those brilliant moments of epiphany that make life grand. We’re going to look at the turning points, the eye openers and the new dawns.
This month’s theme is, ” … And that’s when it all came toge...

April is a promise that May is bound to keep.
- Hal Borland
I can’t make any promises about May, but I can venture a guess that the world of EMS will be every bit as interesting as it was in April here at The Spot. I started by telling you about the hydrogen peroxide, blood stain trick and then moved on to a few thoughts about assessment and scope of practice. Then we spent a few suspenseful days on the EMT liability pop quiz followed up with some thoughts on failure and a request to tell The Discovery Channel about The Chronicles of EMS. I ended off with a little observation about bringing yourself to work and that brings us here. *Deep breath.*

Of course, that’s just the stuff that happened here. We also had the drama of Mark “What’s an Ash Cloud?” Glencors...

‘The Handover’ EMS/ER/A&E blog carnival is continuing to grow and welcome new contributors each and every month, however, after hosting both Grand Rounds and Change of Shift (coming tomorrow), I have realised that there is a whole raft of blogs out there who are involved in pre-hospital care, emergency medicine and nursing who do not contribute due to the ‘Themeing’ of each edition.
Therefore I am going to change the format ever so slightly for upcoming editions, starting with CK`s at Life under the lights. As you may have noticed when I hosted grand rounds, I had 2 sections to the carnival. One for the theme for the edition, then one which was available for open submissions. This seemed to work really well and it got me to thinking about doing the same with &...

The more observant among you may have noticed that I started doing a weekly round-up of nursing blogs called Weekly Handover, which then got quietly dropped.
The reason it disappeared is because it simply became too much for me doing two handovers a week instead of one. Also I came to the conclusion that most of the readership of this site are here to discuss mental health issues rather than nursing, so it made sense to concentrate on This Week in Mentalists.
However, The Oracle blog has agreed to continue the Weekly Handover round-ups over on her blog. Since hers is much more nursing-oriented, it’ll probably reach more of its intended audience anyway. So, here is the return of the Weekly Handover. (Source: Mental Nurse)

Have you ever heard the expression If you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all. Well the SHOs have 360 appraisals to do, asking 12 people what we thought of them. One of the SHOs who shall remain nameless, asked me to fill one out for him or her. I do not have much faith in this Dr, but s/he sat over me while I filled it in. So I could not write bad things. So I decided to say nothing. Not what I should have done I guess, but I could not be honest with him/her sitting over my shoulder. Should I have filled it in honestly warts ...

Time for our Sunday round-up of the week’s nursing blogs.
It’s a bit of a brief one this week. I think I need to find more nurse blogs to add to my list. So far most of the blogs I’ve been reading have been either student nurses (Didn’t Want to Be a Doctor, The Oracle, and my new find Northern Nurse) or bloggers in senior nurse posts…charge nurses (Mouse Thinks), nurse practitioners (It Shouldn’t Happen in Health Care, News from Unscheduled Care), nurse managers (Life in the NHS). Where’s the blogs by staff nurses? So far I’ve got Crazy Nurse, who I variously include under either Weekly Handover or This Week in Mentalists, depending on whether I think it’s more of a nursing or a mental health type post, and that’s it other than th...
