Everyone is constantly telling you what to do, from your parents to your friends to the media. Unfortunately hardly anyone tells you that you should be living a healthy life. Don’t be surprised when too much stress, junk food and little exercise take their toll on your body.
Keep the following quote in mind the next time you catch yourself indulging in unhealthy habits.
“Those who think they have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have to find time for illness.” – Edward Stanley
That being said…here are 10 simple, effective ways that you can apply right now to live a much healthier life:
1- Stop Drinking Alcohol

Alcohol in general is one of the worst things for your body. It damages your organs, drains your energy and contributes to your increase...

With modern technology evolving, an increasing number of jobs involve sitting at a computer for at least 8 hours a day. You may think this makes for an easy life but sitting at a computer for prolonged periods of time can actually cause you to suffer from pains and strains; known as Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI’s). Along with RSIs; back and neck pain, poor circulation and insomnia can be caused by office jobs.
Yoga is becoming an increasingly popular exercise as it’s gentle, and work wonders for office workers who are prone to stress, poor circulation, RSIs and low fitness levels. Another benefit of yoga is that it can easily fit into the busiest of schedules. Just 20 minutes of yoga a day can uplift your mood and reinvigorate your body.
The following are common complaints many peop...

I’ve been on a bit of a diet craze the last 4 months. To be honest. Dieting is lame! I don’t care who you are and where you’re from. You can’t honestly tell me that dieting is the best thing ever. We diet not because we wholeheartedly want to. It’s because we either want something or it’s a necessity.
The perfect scenario would be if it was possible to lose weight and be healthy while eating loads of junk food. Wouldn’t that be sweet.
Sadly that is just not the reality we live in. So we diet our way to a leaner body and work our asses off in the gym.
Well that’s what I do… sort of.
It’s been working though. I feel great and I can see signs of a six-pack forming on my abdomen area, so what I’m doing must be working.
You must ...

You’ve probably heard that certain foods can help your memory improve, and will allow you to think with better clarity.
“But what foods are actually considered brain foods?” you may ask.
Believe it or not, there are a copious amount of foods that protect your brain, improving how good it’ll work, and can even generate new brain cells.
Yes, you read it right… new brain cells! You can still generate new brain cells–even when you’re an adult. A common myth recently espoused that brain cells quit occurring once you’ve reached adulthood, but reputable and prolific new research has debunked this myth. Regardless of how old you are, you can make new brain cells.
Keep in mind that all cells need nutrients to continue their growth. This means your brain needs foo...

Dear New York Times Magazine:
I am a huge fan of your magazine. In fact, reading it is part of my Sunday ritual. I was particularly excited a few weeks ago about your Health and Wellness 2011 edition. I immediately went to Gretchen Reynolds' short article entitled: What's the Single Best Exercise? After reading it, I have a much better answer than the multinational experts you asked, including the MD, PhD dude.
A great point was made ...ask a dozen physiologists which exercise is the best and you'll get a dozen wildly divergent replies... This reminded me that if you asked a bunch of morbidly obese folks what's their favorite snack, you would also likely get "wildly divergent replies" as well. I thought about implementing the experts advice in one of our physical therap...

The Importance of Drinking Water

My two-year-old daughter doesn’t balk at all the water I give her to drink. But when I told my 7-year-old son to drink a glass of water, he said, “But I’m not thirsty. Can I have root beer instead?” Suddenly I got a flashback to my early years. There was never a dull moment with my family growing up, but I didn’t learn the importance of drinking water. Water just tasted bad to me, and I chose not to drink it. I didn’t have a clue that I was depriving myself of the most important factor for enjoying good health: drinking plenty of water.
What turned me around was something I learned in my late 20s while watching a show on television. An object lesson was used to teach the importance of drinking water. In essence, if you washed your dirty dishes with orange soda, they wouldn’t ...

I’m not a meditation teacher. I’m not even a very enthusiastic meditator. I’ve averaged about 20 minutes once a week for the past couple of years, and any serious meditator will tell you that’s not enough to really benefit you.
Except it seems like it is, because I’ve noticed some benefits that I can’t attribute to anything else. I’m sure I’d get far more benefit if I meditated more regularly (I’m experimenting quietly with doing that). But here’s what I’ve gained even from a rather hit-and-miss practice.
Well-known benefits of meditation
Everyone who knows much about meditation knows that it helps to decrease negative thoughts and increase positive ones. It trains you to pay attention. It lowers blood pressure, reduces irre...

When you are going to the gym on a regular basis, it can be hard to be able to motivate yourself when it comes to doing certain exercises to the intensity that is needed to really feel the strain in your muscles.
Here is a list of 7 ways that you can use to motive yourself to be able to get the best out of your time in the gym:
1. Alter your standard workout routines
When you first start a new workout programme, you will find that you have no problems with motivation, as the exercises are relatively new to you but as you cycle through the same exercises on a regular basis, you will find that your effort reduces due to complacency.
Even a subtle alteration to the way in which you complete your training routine will help to increase your motivational levels as you brain is having to br...

Have you got problems with your belly size? If so, you could be one of the thousands that currently consider their belly fats as huge and noticeable. With summer approaching this inefficiency of the body becomes more important and it is the time that many people search for a solution. If you take a survey now and ask people about their targets, in the top of the list you will find goals related to fitness and weight loss. Although caring about your weight should not be seasonal, it is never too late to make a turn to a healthier lifestyle and fit body.
The areas in the body where fat usually resides are the belly, thighs, buttocks, and hips. Most of us don’t know that all of these ‘fat types’ are the same, and that there are a few natural ways to lose fat, unless of cours...

These authors performed a prospective cohort study that included 35,331 Australians and examined the relationship between meat consumption and risk of primary hip and knee replacement for osteoarthritis as evidenced by total joint replacement of the same. They found that was a negative dose-response relationship between high levels of fresh red meat consumption and the risk of hi...

It’s so easy to put off exercising. Long work hours, chores to do at home, friends and family to see … hitting the gym ends up being yet another forgotten item on an overwhelming to-do list.
After all, “I don’t have time” seems like a decent enough excuse. You’ve got other priorities. You might not even like exercise much. And those folks who do spend an hour or two every day walking, cycling or working out? They’re clearly not very focused on their work or the other “should do”s in their life.
The thing is, if you’re busy, you can’t afford not to exercise.
Exercise Gives You More Energy
Maybe you’re put off exercising because you’re worried about being tired. If you hit the gym at lunch, you’ll be exhauste...

Everyone has an inner dialogue that runs day and night signaling what to do, what to say, and how to feel. Most of time, people just go through the day unaware of the impact their inner thoughts have on their everyday behavior.
Though, what we say to ourselves has serious ramifications, particularly if the thoughts are critical, worrisome, and victimizing.
You probably don’t notice many of the thoughts you’re reacting to because they’ve become automatic. They arrive spontaneously and can be tough to recognize. Thoughts can be like tapes playing over and over in your head, and when negative, can tell you things like, “you’re not good enough,” “you’ll never get over this problem,” and “what if something horrible happens?”

Hey there! David Browder here
to talk about EIM’s OCS prep
course. We first launched this much
needed course in January
2010 and it was very popular – by all reports, our participants really enjoyed
this different method of studying for this challenging exam.

Our online OCS Prep Course helps students work through the challenges
of studying for the exam by ensuring that every hour spent studying is a
productive one. A pre-test helps each
student to identify their individual weaknesses. Understanding which areas need the most work,
in conjunction with a test taking strategies lecture, helps our students to get
the most out of their study time. The straightforward online format makes the
course easy to use and flexible – it is not an orthopaedic text – it’s ...

It is true that a lot of people want to lose weight for health reasons, but it is also true that one of the primary reasons that makes people think of their weight is because they want to look good. This is certainly acceptable because what we look outside greatly affects how we feel about ourselves inside. People who are leaner receive compliments from family and friends and this improves their self-esteem in one way or another.
Fat (overweight) people on the other hand are even criticized for being fat and this has a negative impact on their self-esteem and sometimes it may even cause depression. An overweight or obese person could even hear hurtful words like “you are ugly”, “we don’t have your size”, and “you’ll die young” which could pull their self-esteem to the groun...

We live in an age of vampires. And their numbers are on the rise.

No, I’m not talking about the blood-sucking ones (I leave those to Buffy and Blade to deal with). I’m talking about health-sucking vampires.

Health-sucking vampires are those twisted creatures that consciously or not drain us of our vitality, vigor, and overall well-being.

You’ve met these villains of vibrant heath already – those that criticize your health endeavors, those that mock you for your health diligence, and those that would drag your health quality down to their unacceptable level.
It’s time to fight back. It’s time we become health-sucking vampire slayers!

1. Emotional Holy Water

Health-sucking vampires are nasty creatures. You certainly don’t want them to linger around for too long. B...

OK – so most of us are well aware that our gut is part of of our digestive system. As such it’s job is obviously to help in the digestion of food and extraction of nutrients from it.
A lot of us also know the old adage – “You are what you eat.”
Why do we then choose to stop just short of giving our gut the full credit it deserves?
Why do we fail to see that just like with an awesome car – if we want awesome engine performance, we must put in the best quality gas we can find…
I think I have the answer!
It’s because we don’t fully understand the reach of our gut’s control.
So to help the ’cause’ here are 5 quick and critical reasons why you should consider respecting your gut more

Nobody WANTS to be sick.
Right?
Before reading a fabulous book called The Sedona Method by Hale Dwoskin [http://www.sedona.com], I would have gotten all up in your grill at the suggestion that I wanted to be sick. If you had told me that I, myself, caused my own sniffles, them’s woulda been fightin’ words (once I got better).
After reading the book and practicing the exercises in it for a while, I’ve developed the ability to literally will colds away within an hour of noticing their approach. The nitty-gritty of how this is done and why it works can be found in the book.
But I’ll give you a hint: it begins (and often ends) with accepting the fact that, just maybe, you want to be sick.
There’s a great deal of research on the mind-body connection and ps...

Hiccups might be a cute or funny bodily reaction, but when you’re experiencing them, they’re nothing but annoying. These not-so-pleasant spasms that make you say, “hic,” are the involuntary contractions of the diaphragm and sudden closure of your vocal cords. According to MayoClinic.com, hiccups can occur after drinking alcohol, eating a large meal or getting suddenly excited. Hiccups are usually nothing to fret over, but you also don’t have to deal with them all day, because there are several tried-and-tested home remedies designed to quiet your hiccups. Here are 11 popular ways to get rid of hiccups:

Breathe Into a Paper Bag
This is an age-old trick that many hiccup sufferers swear by. Take a brown paper bag and, while holding the opening around your mouth and sealing it tight...

Want motivation on weight loss? Don’t rely on your willpower!
Controversial advice – I know, but there is psychological proof for it, so please bear with me and I’ll explain.
Most advice you’ll hear about how to get motivated and keep motivated when losing weight (or for any other goal in life actually), will teach you to rely on your will power for the support you need.
You’ve heard it all, right? And did any of the advice work?
You see – the problem with relying just on your will power to get you through the tough times, is that your will power is finite.
Research shows that it’s like a muscle. You over-use it and it fatigues. If you don’t let it rest sufficiently enough to recover, it won’t be much use to you for the rest of the day....

You don’t need to resort to steroids to get a leg up on the competition. There really are no substitutes for hard work, discipline, and talent. Nevertheless, there are many natural things that can be done to give athletes a competitive edge.

You want to be healthier and have more energy. You want to take good care of yourself. The problem is, life is hectic. However nice it’d be to have time for long strolls in the countryside, afternoon naps and relaxing baths … you’ve got a few little matters like work, family, friends, chores and hobbies to fit into your day.
Perhaps you’ve made a few attempts at trying to live a healthier lifestyle, and they’ve never worked out. You start a new diet every Monday. You try to quit caffeine, sugar and alcohol all at once. You take up exercising – and your muscles are protesting after a day.
Sometimes, though, it’s the little changes which make a big difference. You don’t need to follow a huge time-consuming plan for the perfect body – you just need the energy and enthusiasm ...

And they want to know what you think! You can be a donor, volunteer, board member, client, or a member of the public. Tell them: How do these organizations make an impact? Which ones are great? Which ones need improvement?

Interested in beginning meditation but don’t know where to start? The good news is that all you need is 5-10 minutes a day to get started.
Are you thinking to yourself, ‘Ten minutes, I don’t have an extra ten minutes a day! My life is already jam packed with work, family, social obligations, and I’m not even mentioning my growing to-do list”?
Well, what if I told you that the benefits of meditation include a reduction in stress, sharpened concentration, improved circulation – and as you get further into your practice you’ll experience a quieter mind, a more open and receptive heart, a sense of inner freedom – and perhaps even a streak of creativity that’ll help you make films like David Lynch. (Lynch has been practicing Transcendental Meditation for over thirty years....

Check out our previous video conversation with Piper here.
At age 34, Piper Kerman went to federal prison for a ten-year-old drug smuggling and money laundering offense. She spent 13 months in a minimum-security correctional facility for women in Danbury, CT, which isn’t necessarily what you’d expect from a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Smith graduate and Red Sox fan from a nice, New England family.
Piper’s excellent memoir about her prison experience, Orange Is the New Black, was just published by Random House – with back cover blurbs by Dave Eggers and Elizabeth Gilbert (not bad for a first-time writer).
Piper sat down with Blisstree for the afternoon to discuss all aspects of her time locked up, from prison beauty products, fitness routines, and friendships to the torturous six years...

14 Tips to Lose Weight & Be Healthier in Time for Summer

Spring is here and summer is around the corner, which means beach, bikinis, and bare abs. Want to lose weight and be healthier at the same time? No problem — it’s part mental preparation, part diet, and part fitness. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, but here are some easy tips to help get you started.
1. Prioritize by separating into big and little goals… Think of big goals as your overarching goal (e.g., lose 30 lbs in 3 months) and your little goals as those you want to meet on a short term basis (e.g., lose 5 lbs in 2 weeks).
2. Make performance-based weight loss goals… Saying “I want to lose weight” will not cut it. You need to choose what ideal weight you want to achieve and set a time frame for when you want to achieve it.
3. Make a positive statement ...

That should be motivation enough, but lately my weight’s been even more all over the place!”
Karen was right. Weight loss motivation is easy…at first. Rapid progress, compliments, wearing outfits you really want to, feeling more attractive, having more energy. All this positive feedback is motivating, captivating. Yet this weig...

April is about the time New Year’s resolutions dissolve and gyms become less crowded again. It’s not that folks have lost their desire to trim pounds or increase their level of fitness. For some, it’s simply a motivation problem. They want to continue, but just can’t seem to make the time amidst competing demands. But for others, they just don’t enjoy exercise. I once watched a woman jogging whose scrunched up face displayed a combination of irritation and defeat. She wasn’t enjoying herself, but felt compelled to continue. So it’s no surprise that keeping our fitness habits going is difficult. Any activity that isn’t innately enjoyable quickly becomes drudgery and nearly impossible to maintain.
No matter what your current feelings regarding exercise, it tur...

Shaleah-Mitchell: Most commonly, sexual abuse involves children and has serious implications for their long-term psychological welfare. In commonsense terms, we can define sexual abuse as inappropriate sexual contact forced on the child by an adult. The sexual contact can occur in many ways ranging from touching to intercourse. The long-term implications can be devastating for the child because the abuse amounts to a breach of trust or an abuse of vulnerability and frequently both. The children, therefore, come to regard the abuse as:
-an attack on their blossoming sexual identity
-a negation of their perception that the world is a safe place
-an undermining of their trust in other people
The consequences of the abuse affect the child in every way: the body, the emotions, the self-confiden...

Shaleah-Mitchell: Everybody loves to go on vacation. Whether you happen to be into sun and sand, or slopes and snow boards, a little time away from all the boring yet stressful parts of your life can be just the rejuvenation you need, to get back to things energized and ready to build a better life. But, of course, even on vacation, you still have some responsibilities. While no one wants to think of serious chapping, let alone melanoma skin cancer, these are both potential hazards, which can be magnified by the weather conditions you may encounter while you are on vacation. So whether you happen to be going on cruises or skiing on the Alps, you may want to take heed of the following tips for on the go skin care.

Shaleah-Mitchell: Since the very dawn of time, people have wanted to reverse the effect of ageing on the skin so as to look younger. Technology has finally reached a point where the use of laser can provide a variety of treatments to the skin from smoothing out wrinkles to removing unwanted hair to tightening the skin. For instance, pixel skin resurfacing can repair skin damage by acne or scarring by removing surface layers of skin and stimulating the skin underneath to grow healthy and smooth. You can get all the benefits of chemical or abrasive smoothening without the pain and a much shorter time to heal.
Another major use of laser technology is in the removal of unwanted hair. This represents a major cosmetic issue for both men and women and long-term solutions have been missing. Lasers...

Shaleah-Mitchell: We are born once, we die once. God blesses each of us with a beautiful life. It is up to us to enjoy every moment of it, or have a pessimistic attitude towards life. A person’s life can be divided into four major stages. The first stage is childhood. This is followed by adolescence, which gives way to youth and finally to old age. Ken Hill rightly said - Childhood is a promise that is never kept. The simplicity of childhood is lost once we grow up. Children have an amazing sense of humor- they do not need a reason to laugh. Look at a child, and you will see a relaxed face bearing a wide, confusing smile.
Each phase of a man’s life is like a season, childhood being the most beautiful of all those seasons. A child knows no fear. A child is never scared of dreaming. This...

Virginia-Hubbard: If you have been on skiing holidays before, you must have noticed how good the cold, dry air and the exercise are for you. There’s something that’s good about dry air, when it comes to your skin. Bacteria cannot grow in dry air, and most germs are unable to function well if there is not enough moisture in the air. Since it is a fact that skin irritations are almost always caused by bacteria, dry air has a soothing effect on the skin because it stops the growth of bacteria.
Exercise, on the other hand, exposes your skin to air and light, and this makes your skin less moist. Again, without moisture, bacteria cannot grow, and hence, your skin irritation goes away. So, exercise and dry air together can be very pleasant with a skin irritation.
Dry climate also has anot...

This article is focused on facelifts, to observe the facts regarding benefits, candidacy, costs, and risks of the procedure, to help you make the most informed decision when it comes to altering your appearance.
A Facelift is a surgical procedure that combats facial skin laxity and sagging. It is used in cases of mid-face sagging, creases in the lower eyelids and from the nose to the edges of the mouth, displaced or fallen fat, loss of muscle tone and loose facial skin. Candidacy is determined after consultation with a specialist, usually a surgeon. It is important to seek a reputed, certified specialist, to ensure the best possible job. Furthermore to ensure that the procedure is necessary – you don’t want some quack who just wants to get one payment closer to paying off their yacht, ...

D-Kimberly: There are more and more entrepreneurs entering the market every year, and many different opportunities presented at every turn. If you want to start your own skincare line from home, how would you go about it?
Firstly, when starting a business you will need to create a customized business plan with which you will be able to approach potential investors or creditors. A business plan to be used for your skincare business will entail a lot of preparation, not to mention a vast amount of printed material. You will also need a significant amount of copies to be given to all of your potential creditors, and in this case you will need to make use of a discount printing service that can offer you affordable rates.
Starting a skincare business from home will also require you to print a...

Alan22: I feel a little embarrassed that, as a rehabber, I had never even researched radiators. Just in case you’ve never used one (as I haven’t), the basic premise is that steam or hot water is used to heat homes and other buildings. And that steam or hot water pass through a radiator, which is basically just a pipe that lets heat flow upward from it, drawing cooler air from below and causing the warmer air to circulate throughout the house. But while I’m sure every person who’s ever been inside of an older home has observed a radiator at some point, there have been some modifications made since the old days.
Nowadays, they actually have designer radiators. In my opinion, that whole idea just reads like some people have a little bit more money than they know what to do with. I mea...

Ever wonder why it seems your dog is in a good mood all the waking hours of the day? Perhaps adopting a dog’s sleep habits might help you emulate the feeling.
A bad night’s sleep is the worst when it comes to getting things accomplished and feeling good during what should be a great day. The effects due to lack of sleep on mood, productivity, creativity, and even the quality of our relationships take a bigger toll on our health than most realize.
Anyone who does have trouble sleeping most likely have read all the “regular” things to do in order to get better sleep. The concept becomes nothing more than a repeated set of rules that get ignored, similar to the simple rules of training a well behaved dog.
Finding a new outlook and different perspective is the answer to changing ...

A large part of what we do as physical therapists is design programs to fit the individual needs of a patient. I am very sure a lot of thought is put into the design of the program to be implemented to improve the function of the older adult we are treating. I am also willing to bet that 75% or more of the time some type of strengthening exercise is included in the individualized program. I assume this because muscle weakness is a normal part of the aging process. The rate of strength loss occurs at about 1-5% annually after the age of 30 (Lindel, 1997).

I wonder... how much thought is put into the strengthening exercises? How do physical therapists determine the intensity of the strengthening activity? Do physical therapists rely on the results of manual muscle testing? I...

Written by Vincent Kovar
The art of memory, or Ars Memorativa in the Latin, has fascinated us since…well, I can’t quite remember. From the ancient Greeks to early Christian monks, scholars have employed a number of mental techniques in training their minds to keep track of the burgeoning field of human knowledge. Nowadays however, there seem to be so many more things to keep track of. Not only is the overall amount of human knowledge growing at an exponential rate but each of us is expected to memorize a dizzying array of minutiae. From what floor our dentist office is on, to an average of seven passwords and PIN numbers per person, we use our memories more than ever before. It should come as no surprise however, that those clever ancients were willing to put their memory where their ...

This article is based on my research as well as the latest scientific studies; it lists 10 ways in which you can reduce your risk of getting cancer.
According to the American Cancer Institute (ACI), approximately 550,000 Americans die from cancer each year. The ACI estimates that one-third of these deaths could be prevented through relatively simple lifestyle changes, such as:
• Losing weight
• Eating healthier, or
• Starting an exercise routine
Below is an expanded list of things you can do to reduce your risk of getting cancer:

1. Enjoy Green Tea on a Regular Basis
A recent study suggested that drinking 3 cups of green tea a day can reduce breast cancer risk by 40 percent.
Green tea contains anti-oxidants which research suggests helps to rid the body of free radicals (which can ca...

There is a persistent myth that living healthy is only for the well-off. With hundreds of fast food chains proudly boasting long lists of 99 cent menus – it seems like for those living on a budget, fried burgers and nuggets are the best option. However these are just marketing gimmicks that propagate the myth. Living healthy DOESN’T mean you have to go broke in the process. There are some excellent ways to save money and still lead a healthy and happy life. Here we look at some easy ways to save bundles and keep you and your family on a healthy track.
1. Buy Organic But Not For Everything: It’s true that organic foods can provide healthier options, but they need not break the bank to do so. First and foremost keep your organic fruits and vegetables limited to those that...

Have you ever changed, or tried to change, the way you habitually eat? Most of us connect the word “diet” with “weight loss”, but people adopt particular diets for a number of reasons: these could be related to your health (which sometimes necessitates weight gain), your finances (eating more cheaply) or particular ethical or environmental concerns.
If you’ve ever been on a diet you’ll know that commitment is crucial. Others might manage to stick with a regime for a few weeks, only to come unstuck at the first vacation, birthday or party that comes along.
Here are some ways to stay committed to your die...

6 Motivation Tips When You’re Feeling Depressed

Depression is a difficult illness for even the most iron-willed of individuals. Whether you’re clinically depressed or just in a rut, depression can make basic tasks like cleaning the house, taking a shower and even getting out of bed incredibly difficult and physically and mentally draining. It is important to stay motivated to continue to live your life and work towards feeling better, even when you’re at your lowest point. Here are some simple ways that you can motivate yourself on a daily basis:
• Don’t be too harsh with yourself. It’s going to take time to get things done like you used to and to feel like your old self. Changes are not going to happen overnight, so don’t be overly critical of yourself if you make mistakes or don’t get as much done as you’d like. ...

Have you watched TV programs like Downsize Me? I really enjoy watching this! People who lead unhealthy lifestyles are given a ‘lifestyle makeover.’ They usually end up losing weight and finding more happiness by the end of the show. Obviously they do make great strides over the two months they are being followed by the cameras, but I often wonder how many of these people go back to their old unhealthy ways once the TV cameras have left. The trouble is that these kind of programmes focus on external things – diet, exercise, giving up smoking – but they don’t address the inner world of the individuals they are seeking to treat. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with eating bette...

Planning to buy a new sunscreen that you’ve seen in the market? Better think twice before you do that. According to a study conducted by the Environmental Working Group, a non profit research organization based in Washington D.C., 4 out of 5 sunscreen lotions do not give adequate protection against the harmful rays of the sun or contain harmful chemicals.

Most of these sunscreens seem to be effective for sunburns, but their efficiency in fighting skin cancer is under question. They seem to be having little effect on the prevalence of melanoma which is the deadliest form of skin cancer. The rate of contracting skin cancer remains steady. tips to apply sunscreen 64tips-to-apply-sunscreen 64

Before going out in the sun, question that strikes the brain is how to prevent the skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun. The answer is simple- by using sunscreen lotions. However, sometimes sunscreen lotions are used quite inappropriately, which prevents from accessing its full benefits. However, before applying any sunscreen lotion make sure that it suits your skin. Here are some genuine tips to use sunscreen lotions:-
• Make sure that you apply sunscreen lotion at least 30 minutes before you go out, as it would allow skin to absorb the lotion.
• Applying sunscreen lotion just once is not sufficient. Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours when outdoors, especially if you’re swimming or sweating.

It would only seem like a sensible thing to do when one proports the idea that out of all the face creams available in the market, let’s figure out which one proves to be the most effective. Often women get carried away by brands without even realizing the percentage of relevant chemicals that are in the cream or whether or not will it suit them. Anti-ageing cream is one such product that women buy in dozens simply because they help them to fight against their perpetual enemy - Age.

When the name of the person who created the laws admits that it created more opportunities than it sought to halt, you know you have problems.
Forbes magazine recently interviewed Pete Stark about impact of the self-referral laws that are in place-Stark I, Stark II, and now for those anxiously awating this stark (pardon the pun) sequel-Stark III. Mr. Stark (who by the way has actually been nationally recognized for his “support” of physical therapist as a “friend of PT”) admits that this probably created more loopholes, niche industries, and opportunities to commit more self-referral than it ever prevented. He appropriately likens it to the tax law whereby people will always find a way around it. This is a must read and a clear lesson for how not t...

Mandira13aug:
Very soon the pharmaceuticals giant Merck will become £2billion poor, as the company has to pay same amount to the 150 Americans consumers because of its painkiller Vioxx which had proven to caused heart attacks and strokes in thousands of users if it had been taken more than 18 months. The painkiller Vioxx has been meant for the patients of arthritis.

But in September 2004, Merck and Co, based in New Jersey, withdraw all its drug (Vioxx) from America, after a study revealed that it can double the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients who are taking it for more than eighteen months. However, till now the company only liable to pay its US customers. But certainly this biggest drug-case settlement will help 80million patients, including 400,000 Britons to get th...

Vitamin C rich diet and beauty products may slow skin wrinkling

Urvashiupadhyay: Researchers now report that people who eat plenty of vitamin C-rich foods have fewer wrinkles than people whose diets contained little of the vitamin.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant, which means that it can combat the effects of free radicals in your body and on your skin. Free radicals are the unstable molecules in the environment that can cause aging of the skin. So, when vitamin C is properly delivered into skin cells, there is a good chance to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture.
However, eating a bag of oranges every week is not going to bring about the desired results for your skin. In order to see the benefits of vitamin C on the outside of your body, you will need to find a way to combine a healthy diet that is rich in vitamin C with skin care products that...

Wellness Visit With a PT???...Our Worsening Identity Crisis

Not a single PT from this previous
post regarding our profession's identity crisis responded that they make
their living at health and wellness PT. Now we exacerbate the problem by
having our professisonal organization recommend that consumers get an annual
health and wellness check-up? Initiatives like this discredit what we do well
and make our identity even more ambiguous. What's next? See a PT for bed wetting
or depression? This is very painful for me to publicly admit here, but we are
now no different than chiros who advocate that consumers get annual spine health
check-ups to correct vertebral subluxations.

For the life of me, who is driving all of the health and wellness
initiatives at APTA? Mr. Barnes, please save us from ourselves before we
self-destruct. We need focus...
