Vacations are on many people's minds now, as schools close for spring break, and families plan for the summer ahead when the children are out of school. I am not sure we're going to be able to vacation this year as my husband just started a new job, and isn't starting out with many vacation days. But I know that vacations, when possible are healthy, you need to get away and rest. We are going to have to be creative with the days that we have, and make the best of it this year...being thankful for what you have, even if it isn't all that you hoped for is also healthy:-)But what about this cute picture of a child swimming with a dolphin? Last year my niece was able to do this on the vacation they took as a family to Mexico...what an experience! Dolphins are such beautiful, gentle creatures a...

Need Medical Help? Only the Best Supplies Will Do

While nutrition from whole foods as a source of health and vitality is the focus of this blog, there are times that we need the help of a doctor, a hospital, or even emergency assistance. This was true for me a few years ago this month, in fact the anniversary is only days away, when I had my gallbladder removed. I was in excruciating pain, and we had to call our local volunteer ambulance service who always arrive with their emt supplies . Then it's off for that bumpy ride with kind people watching over you and doing their best to help, and into the emergency room, where you're trusting that they have the best hospital supplies available, and finally to your room while you wait for your surgery. I wrote about my experience in detail at my main website. I visited a site called dealmed.com t...

Wow, it has been such a long time since I have written a proper update that I can hardly remember what or when things have happened.

As you no doubt know, I was suffering from depression during the winter months. I have a history of depression and this time round I have been taking antidepressants since 2002. I’m usually fine as long as I “keep taking the tablets” as they say, but sometimes I get a bit “wobbly” and need my tablets increasing for a while. This doesn’t usually last long, but this time the increase in tablets made little or no difference, and my depression only really started to lift around mid-March. Since then I have struggled on and off, and I have found that the only thing that has really kept it at bay is total avoidance of stress and pressure – hence the ...

I have posted a similar post to another blog, and thought it worth sharing here, I hope you find this helpful! One of the things I like to do is have my clients complete simple questions using the Health Analyzer at my online store, it's very easy, you check boxes if the phrase applies to you, then click and are taken to results that look like this (these are my results when I did this today):I also have this available in paper form for those who do not have internet access or meet with me in person. Under the results in the image above, you see an explanation key. Use that to decide whether you think your condition is one that could use nutritional support. If your rating is fair or poor, then click on the name of the system that is in need of help, and a page will open with suggested herb...

After such a successful party, it’s only right to ask ‘where to next’?
Actually, we have a vague idea of where we want to go the Healthbolt Carnival.
But it’s your carnival too, so we want to know what you think. That plus I found this new poll making site that I wanted to play around with.
So we have three polls where you can have your say…
How often should the Healthbolt Carnival be held? ( surveys)
How should the Healthbolt Carnival Be Structured? ( polls)
Would you interested in hosting the Healthbolt Carnival? ( polls)
And of course, please leave any further thoughts you have in the comments. Inquiring minds want to know what you think!!!
Meanwhile, we’ve already received a number of submissions for the next Healthbolt Carnival.
So looks like...

Monday Health Facts: Toilets and Tooth Brushes

Yes, I know it's not Monday, I have been working on our our income taxes for days, complicated because I work at home and home businesses always affect taxes. They are done, and I'm ready to blog!I was listening to a news report today about things that cause an unhealthy environment in the home. This one isn't new to me, but has a big "yuk" factor whenever I hear it, the fact that when you flush your toilet, in some cases it can cause a spray of several feet, getting bacteria on your toothbrush. They gave a few obvious tips, clean your toothbrush well before using it, store them inside a cabinet, etc., but there was one "no brainer" that wasn't mentioned, closing the toilet before you flush.Seriously, the toothbrush is really a breeding ground for bacteria, after all we clean our teeth with...

Wednesday Remedy: Strokes and Healing Walks

Strokes are a very big health concern in my family...my father had many small strokes over a period of 5 years that finally lead to his passing; his sister also had a small stroke; my grandmother on my mothers side had a stroke in her 60's, but lived to be 90, the last few years bedridden. So if heredity is a factor, I do have my work cut out for me. Eating anti-oxidant foods or drinking anti-oxidant drinks can be very helpful. So is the information in the following article, a little obvious, but we always need reminding, don't we?Stroke is the nation’s third leading cause of death. Stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain stops due to a blood clot or burst blood vessel. According to a new study, being only moderately fit can significantly lower your risk of having a stroke. The study w...
