I believe our web hosting has completed the server migration. This morning, the MMR seems to load a lot faster! I know it has been sluggish for months and months. We also have been experiencing frequent database connection errors.
I must say when things were getting really bad, updating the blog became a frustrating exercise but when things work well, it is a joy.
I believe the problems were due to heavy traffic and I am glad that the webhosting has decided to move us to another server.
If your experience is the same or the contrary, do give a shout.

In view of the heavy traffic for the MMR, the web hosting company will be transferring us to another server later today. The MMR may be inaccessible for up to 24 hours as the DNS will have to propagate.
There shall not be any new blog updates during this time.
Thank you for your attention.

Today is my first guest post for this blog! I hope you enjoy it – and thanks to Lis from Perth for getting in touch with me!
More and more web hosting providers, particularly the ones that are free, are powerfully persuading their clients to use Google Apps in order to manage their email more efficiently. This is typically due to the fact that the hosting provider wants to lower the overhead cost for processing that comes with operating POP accounts and saving disk space related to mail storage. In general, by using Google Apps, you get better performance and often better email support from your host. For example, if your host includes a single catch all type of email, you would probably still benefit from the use of Google Apps. You do have other options when it comes to email solut...

But for all my discussion about social networking websites like PatientsLikeMe.com and Twitter, one of the slides sticks with me.

Its purpose is singular yet deceptively simple — help people understand their thoughts and feelings about wanting to commit suicide, and hope they take enough away from it to make the choice to live another day. It has been read by nearly 8 million people during that time.

If you’re like many and have had to go through a plethora of reformatting processes (mainly the case for Windows users), then you might be interested in three different services to help you back up your data in numeruous ways.

1. MozyHome
Mozy, one of the leading companies in online and remote storage/backup offers an excellent free service to those who are interested in backing up their important computer files to Mozy’s servers. What is most interesting about this service is that they provide you 2GB of storage to begin with, and for every 4 friends you refer to the service, you will gain an additional gigabyte for FREE! To me, that sounds like a more than generous deal and even if you don’t refer friends, 2GB of storage is enough for many of your important documents a...

Found another web host directory that will be useful for those a bit noob when it comes to choosing webhosting providers.
I think, one time or another, bloggers have had the dilemma of choosing which webhosting provider and domain manager to use. And while it has been a blessing that there many webhosting directories out there already, it would be helpful if that site would give an edge, like easier or more specialized searching so that it won’t be the same with all others. Webhostingrating is different in such a way that I find that the site is more fairly organized, it’s pleasant and professional, and they offer listing of webhosting providers based on the reviews by users themselves. Listing can also be arranged best on who’s the best Windows host, best in b...

Last November 2007, I made a switch to paid hosting account from enjoying almost a year of service from my free host for worries of losing my site as I’ve experienced from my previous free hosts.
Recently, this blog and my whole hosting account were on hiatus. I had experienced two account suspensions from my web host (WebHostingBuzz) and as I’ve already stated, site suspension is one of the worst nightmares a blogger could experience. The suspensions were due to server (CPU) resource abuse. Apparently, some poorly-scripted WordPress plugins that I’ve been using caused most of the server resource abuse. It’s painful to see how my blog income abruptly fell from it’s usual over $10 per day to only $6 per day. This has made me decide to upgrade my account to a se...

Site Suspension: A Webmaster’s Nightmare

When I was just starting to blog, I feared of two things: not being able to generate blog traffic and site suspension. I had managed to work on the first one since I am now getting a satisfying number of page views per day. The latter was my worry before I switched to paid hosting from WebHostingBuzz.com. I’ve had several site suspension before, and termination at some point when I was still hosted by free hosts. I’ve had several site migration. Somehow, I blame this mishaps why my main blog (jammedph.com) is not visible now in search engine rankings and Google bot stopped crawling it.
But when I switched to paid host, I thought site suspension will no longer be a problem. But imagine to my disappointment and nightmare when I saw my site last night with a suspension notice. Ac...

Utilize Coupon Codes to Avail Discount on Domain Names and Hosting

Domain name registration these days costs an average of $9.00/year. It already sounds much for me. So I looked for ways that will give me cheaper domain registration. My first option was to search the web for cheap domain names. My second option is to use a coupon code to avail discount. But where do I get one?
Luckily, I found a great site which provides coupon promotional codes including those for domain names and hosting. Retail Me Not is an easy way to find online coupon codes.
Using the FEBLUV code (NameCheap’s coupon code for February) I got the domain name for only $8.41 from its original price of $9.96!
Promotional coupon codes for domain registration and hosting.

The recent development of Paypal service in the Philippines, which now includes receive feature has helped a lot of internet entrepreneurs, bloggers, online auctioneers, sellers and buyers, webmasters, and the regular internet users.
In my case, it also helped me a lot:
1. For my web hosting: I am now able to pay for web hosting for my sites without worrying about my account being deleted for not logging in for days. My sites have been hosted by Ejam Hosting for almost a year but due to limited features and increasing website demand on bandwidth and space, I decided to switch to a paid host.
2. Online Auctions: I can now join in online auctions without the need to worry on the payment method. Most online auctions support Paypal such as eBay. I’ve been wanting to buy a 3G phone. My P...

My blogs and previous website had been hosted by Ejam hosting for free for over a year. I was satisfied with their hosting, but since the hosting are provided for free, I have to expect some limitations.
Free Hosting

How to get a hosting for FREE:
You have to sign up for free account, of course. Get a list of these free hosts here. Most of these web hosts provide free hosting in exchange of posts. Ejam for example requires you to post certain number per month to get your account running. Some offers point equivalents of each post (e.g. Hostbidder.com) which serves as your “money” to renew your account every month.
Pros:
1. Features: You get to build a self-hosted WordPress blog or any CMS-built website, get the feature of a paid web host such as cPanel and Fantastico, and site...

A Friend’s Webhosting Dilemma This Time

I was talking with a friend few days ago and I asked him if he has already decided to try blogging. He’s a bit on the meticulous side, as he wanted everything under his control, which meant he wanted to be the one responsible for uploading the files he wanted, the look of his new blog, etcetera. He isn’t that computer-savvy as I am but he’s willing to learn all the basic information he needs to start up.
The only problem he has now is that he can’t decide which webhost would be best for him. He wanted a webhost which has a support team available 24/7, reachable via IM or email (which, of course, is what everybody wants, right?), in case he runs into problems he’s not capable of solving by himself. I would have gladly recommend my webhost but still, being the meticulous person th...

For people who aren’t really computer-savvy, it’s easy to get lost in the jungle of specifications that need to be considered in looking for a good webhosting service provider. These considerations include your monthly budget, fee for setting up the blog (if you’re not so skilled in doing so), the optimum webspace you need without spending too much for something that you won’t really use, and the bandwidth limit. For some, these are easy questions to answer. But for a lot of people, it can really be confusing. I should know because I’m not really that knowledgeable with computers. I only learned through trial and error and through the good advice from friends, both online and offline.
There are good people, though, who have thought of ways to help these people out with their webh...

My domain and other sites, has been hosted since its birth in the blogosphere by Ejam Hosting through its post-to-host program for FREE.
I have been satisfied with their hosting because I am getting the features of a paid host for FREE and so far, Ejam has satisfied my qualifications for a free host. Unfortunately (or fortunately), since this blog has been widely visited these past days, I have to upgrade my bandwidth limit and storage capacity.
Although I was satisfied with the hosting, my fear of losing my website was still there. Because it’s a free hosting, I was afraid of instability in the future. I’ve experienced this dilemma with my previous free hosts.
How to save on hard disk space?

I only have 40 GB hard disk space, partitioned into 2. I have separate drive for all my important documents with my almost 4000 collection of music, the other drive is for my system files so every time I need reformatting of my PC, I won’t be having a problem of backing up my files. Because I have a limited disk space, I tried many ways to save up for space so my PC performance would not be affected without the need to upgrade my RAM or disk space.
Upgrading could be the best option because you wouldn’t have to spend longer time deleting every unnecessary files you could find in your computer. But if your saving up for some more important things, it may be an impractical option.
Alternatively, you can:
1. Clean up your hard disk

I’m moving hosts for EMR and HIPAA. I’m excited to consolidate my hosting and move EMR and HIPAA to hopefully a little faster and more reliable host. Not to mention, I think that this host isn’t located in Canada and so Google won’t be confused and send me the Canadian traffic. Not that I have anything against Canadians, but I always thought it was interesting that Google.ca sent me all sorts of referrals.
It will take a few days for everything to transfer over, so I’ll probably wait to post for the next couple days. Always better to let everything settle before I make to many other changes.
By the way, if you are looking for a good host, you might want to consider Bluehost. I’m planning on moving all of my domains to them. In fact, I already have 3 on t...

These past days, I thought I’d lose this site forever; my domain expired because of my carelessness. I have acquired this domain from Hostbidder for free through posting. Because it’s free, I should be ready for consequences, one of it is the expiration issues. And I thought I was, until I opened this site last week and it says the domain has expired. From that experience, I’ve learned 10 ways to avoid domain expiry.
1. Know the domain expiry date (of course!). Usually the expiry date falls on the same date one year after the creation date. If you are not sure about the expiry date, you can check your domain registrar or perform a whois lookup.
2. Remember the domain expiry date. Put reminders on your cell phone, on a notebook, or your computer, etc. Set the reminder 1 m...
