On most days, I try to live healthy. Healthy for me means a combination of whole foods (none of that processed stuff), vitamins, walking, some kind of meditative exercise (yoga, tai chi, meditation), getting as much sleep as I can and trying to make myself smile for at least 40-50% of the day.
This is a very different picture then where I was ten years ago. My main focus at that time was looking good instead of feeling good. I worked out 6-7 days a week. I highlighted my hair, went out in the sun to get a “summer glow,” and slept at weird times. My eating habits were not the best either. But perhaps the biggest change is that I used to ignore how I really felt and forced myself to do what I thought was “right.” I exercised when I was tired. I took jobs I didn’...

You can talk to a dozen experts, read a dozen books and get a dozen different interpretations of ACOA co-dependency.
Many accept it as a disease in as much as it has an onset, is progressive, predictable and in time potentially fatal, although other causes of death are generally cited.
It is assumed that all Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOA’s) are co-dependents, but we each act out this illness in a different way. Basically, there are two general concepts:
As children growing up in an alcoholic or dysfunctional home environment, we learned to hide or divorce our feelings, our true selves (also knows as the "Inner Child") and we adopted a survival role in order to cope with the stresses.
The experts in the field of alcoholism have ...

Something amazing has happened to me, my sweet little chickadees (I say that because you, dear readers, are my beautiful little chickadees, for reasons you will learn in this essay). For the first time in my life, I am happy beyond all imagining. I have experienced many joyous events that have given me a glimpse into what happiness feels like, but never have I experienced something as intensely life-changing as these past few months have been in my life. I never knew anything like this could happen to me, and I never knew such events were even possible -- for anyone...

One of the most important and difficult issues in life is to find out what your identity is. It is not only a thing which lasts during puberty. If you have autism finding your way in life may be seen as an extra puzzle throughout life. In my opinion one's autism identity does change throughout the stages of life too. This is due to the stages of elderdom and the way our inner child grows. If you are aware others find you different this can be painful. Among others you may often be surrounded by misunderstanding. Against this negative aspect of being different there is also a strong positive point. Your autism identity is very personal and unique just like every person with autism is. It can be feeled differently by people who are not officially diagnosed with autism, recently diagnosed wit...

As you all know, today is talk like a pirate day, a day that is so important to all of us pirates because of the tight correlation between the increase in global temperatures and the decrease in pirates worldwide! So join with me and my parrots by declaring your pirate-ness, and help save the world from global warming! You can do it!
