Bully Nurse Harasses Parents of Unvaccinated Baby at Michigan Hospital
Conclusion First of all, let me say, I believe that the majority of nurses are highly skilled, compassionate, hard-working health care professionals. For their long hours and their special touches, there is no adequate way to convey sufficient gratitude and respect. However, for nurses like Lauren, there is no excuse for such inappropriate behavior. You can’t blame it on a bad day, or a long shift, or a lack of judgement. She violated moral guidelines. She violated principles of common sense. She failed to respect patient confidentiality. She may have even violated federal law. She negligently recommended a vaccine t...

You know how, sometimes, things get brown and ucky and dull?
That's the way things have been around here, lately. Every couple of years I kind of brown-out--not burn out--on work, and blogging, and people and nursing generally. Then I get better. That is what happened this last couple of months: I browned out and then got better.A lot of it had to do with work. You guys might've heard that the flu season has started. We have a thirty-bed medical CCU, and sixteen of those beds are filled by people under the age of 50 on ventilators or ECMO (a way of oxygenating blood by taking it out of your body, zapping it with O2 through a membrane, and returning it--sort of like lung dialysis) beca...

IFPMA Millennium Development Goals
In 2000, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set out in motion a landmark political agenda from the highest levels of national governments to be achieved by 2015. Through eight overarching goals, governments and international organizations committed to improving the social and economic conditions especially in the world's poorest countries. A recent report from the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) looked at several of these goals, which strongly relate to life science companies. Specifically, the report looked at goals related to: Reducing child mortality Improvi...

With vaccines…Is there no middle ground, no room for questions?
“We should be as demanding of ourselves as we are of those who challenge us.” Dr. Jerome Groopman, writing in the New Rupublic Writing about the medical decision-making surrounding vaccines proved to be sketchy. Yesterday’s post brought stinging criticism from both sides of the debate. A pediatrician felt the structure of the post was patronizing. Just an hour later, a skeptic sent me the same message–patronizing. This was educational. Criticism is taken seriously here, especially when it comes from both sides of an argument. The reflex: Perhaps its useful to write more on the matter? (It’s f...

TechTool Thursday 042
TechTool review 3D Health by Archie MD on iOS Website: – iTunes - Website 3D Health provides 3D digital animation videos in order to be able to effectively explain procedures or conditions to your patients Design and User Interface It’s ok. But for the cost of the app, I’d expect something a little prettier. For example, on the iPhone version all the buttons are crushed together at the top. If you actually wanted to share an image with someone you’d need tiny fingers to be able to press the share button. This is a bad design flaw in an app by a well-established company. The interactive human body section has ...

Dangerous Contamination in Vaccines Causes Sinking Profits for Big Pharma
Conclusion Pharmaceutical companies like Sanofi Pasteur have demonstrated a lack of commitment to following the proper procedures for manufacturing vaccines (which are already chemically laden with dozens of dangerous substances) in a manner free of contamination. Their sales representatives market these products in existing and emerging markets in unethical ways. If these products are really so amazing and safe, why do drug representatives have to bribe doctors to prescribe them to their patients? When billions of dollars are at stake in profit margins, can you trust pharmaceutical companies to keep your child’s saf...

Flu shots 101 and why YOU need one
I think everyone should get a flu shot, and if you haven’t had one yet now is the time.  The more people are vaccinated, the fewer chances everybody has of contracting the flu and passing it along to somebody who has a compromised immune system.  If you know and love a young adult cancer patient, get a flu shot.  If you don’t know one of us, do it for your elderly grandma, your infant nephew, or just because you care about the well being of a stranger.  Flu shots are not just about protecting yourself, they are about helping to protect your community. Lots of myths about flu shots prevent people from gettin...

Why Big Pharma is bad for your health
Just take one and you’ll feel better. Promise (Image from shutterstock). On Wednesday I came down with a stinking cold. Loaded up with all the cold and ‘flu medication I could find on the pharmacist’s shelves I headed into the office where I found on my desk a pre-ordered copy of Ben Goldacre’s new book Bad Pharma: How drug companies mislead doctors and harm patients.I had read and enjoyed Goldacre’s previous book ‘Bad Science‘, an accessible and entertaining exploration of the world of medicine. I have not touched a homeopathic sugar pill or written an ill-informed scientific article since. Not that...

Things cancer has taught me
I found an article written about what she learned from her mother's cancer. I can tell you its also things I have learned:Doctors do not have all the answers but that can be okay. I think we are taught that doctors know everything and will have the answer for every ache and pain. But with cancer we quickly learn they do not. But that can be okay. We can educate ourselves and remain satisfied with our care. Also we cannot expect the doctors to make the big decisions for us. They suggest courses of treatment but we can make our own decisions as to which ones to choose. I have learned not to follow blindly the medical guidanc...

The Quacktitioner Royal is a threat to constitutional government and to the health of the nation
This article has appeared, in nearly identical form, on the UK Conversation . You can leave comments there or here. The modern major-general A constitutional monarch is purely ceremonial and plays no part in politics.  Well actually in the UK it isn’t quite as simple as that. The first problem is that we have no constitution.  Things haven’t changed much since the 19th century when Walter Bagehot said "the Sovereign has, under a constitutional monarchy… three rights—the right to be consulted, the right to encourage, the right to warn." These are not inconsiderable powers in a ...

Vaccines, Depression, and Type-1 Diabetes—Going Beyond Your Doctor
CONCLUSIONS As per doctor recommendation, I would receive flu shots, my children would continue to be vaccinated, I would live through the nightmare of antidepressants, and our daughter would receive uncontrollable amounts of insulin that caused frequent and potentially life-threatening side effects. Doctors can be dead wrong, partially right, and completely right in their diagnosis, analysis, and treatment recommendations. As per my own research and in consulting with experts, I will never receive a flu shot again, and my children will not be vaccinated again until independent studies proof safety and effectiveness of vac...

Family Sues After Dangerous Flu Vaccine Causes Child to Become Severely Brain Damaged
Conclusion After reading realms of information about the flu shot and the many tragic cases of vaccine-injured children, including the sad case of Saba Button, in my opinion, a child is far more likely to suffer serious side effects from the flu vaccine than from the flu itself. However, despite the many children who have become seriously ill after various flu vaccines, the governments around the world continue to portray the flu vaccine as safe and effective. Many flu vaccines still contain thimerosal, an ingredient that is said to have been removed from vaccines from as far back as 2007. [9] Since that time, this dangero...

The Value of Your Child’s Life – According to Those Promoting Vaccines
Conclusion Who knows your child best? Who has to live with consequences resulting from decisions imposed on you by pediatricians or diverse authors, labeling parents as “paranoid,” should they express the ramifications of the child’s vaccine injury? Good decisions are made by taking all perspectives, arguments and scientific outcomes into consideration. Those advocating for all parents to inject their children with toxic substances via vaccines are also advising to silence voices of thinking otherwise. Their tools are means of “telling emotional stories full of tears, sobbing and unbearable grief and terror and not...
