Emotional factors in CAD : Anxiety vs depression , which is bad ?
Psychological factors both depression and anxiety do confer a significant risk for CAD. However, a distinction must be made between risk factors and triggers. It is highly likely, depression has more consistent correlation with chronic CAD than anxiety.  Primary anxiety per-se is of less of a risk factor for chronic CAD, while it can still be a trigger for cardiac events. (when it occurs over heightened baseline risk) Primary depression increases the CAD risk many fold by slowing the system making it sedentary and promote endothelial dysfunction, which is the key promotor of atherogenic CAD. ...

I recently attended a cardiology conference where a dear friend of mine was presenting on the topic of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Just the week before, while on vacation, I personally experienced the inability to relax. 9 Things Every Healthcare Startup Should Know About Business Development
By ANDY MYCHKOVSKY In this post, I write down all my strategy and business development knowledge in healthcare and organize it into the top 9 commandments for selling as a healthcare startup. I think everyone from the founder to the most junior person on the team should know these pillars because all startups must grow. I should also note these tenets are most applicable for selling into large enterprise healthcare incumbents (e.g., payers, providers, medical device, drug companies). Although I appreciate the direct-to-consumer game, these slices are less applicable for that domain. If your startup needs help developing...

Fight Aging! Newsletter, August 12th 2019
We examined 9293 individuals from the Copenhagen General Population Study using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy measurements of total cholesterol, free- and esterified cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, and particle concentration. Fourteen subclasses of decreasing size and their lipid constituents were analysed: six subclasses were very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), one intermediate-density lipoprotein (IDL), three low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and four subclasses were high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Remnant lipoproteins were VLDL and IDL combined. Mean nonfasting cholesterol concentration was 72...

Security Crisis of Cardiac Pacemakers Paves the Way for IoT Security Evolution in Cardiology
Conclusion Fortunately, there have been no malicious activities or attacks in which hackers tampered with pacemakers, programmers, or other cardiac devices so far. However, the possibility itself is critical enough to prioritize the security assurance of connected cardiology devices. The security crisis associated with cardiac devices might have hindered their adoption, yet it also pointed to a critical gap in policy-making and technology testing on the whole. While some measures are underway, fully bridging this gap will require a more coordinated effort from both regulators and manufacturers. Inga Shugalo is a...
