160 Kindness Quotes to Help You Live a Happier and Kinder Life
A simple but often underappreciated way to live a happier life is through kindness. So in this post I’d like to share the most powerful and best kindness quotes I’ve found in the past 10+ years. Thoughts from the past 2500 years about kindness and care for others but also towards yourself. But first, why is kindness so powerful? Well, here’s three of my favorite reasons that I keep in mind and that helps me to try to be a kinder person: 1. I get what I give. Most people will over time tend to treat you as you treat them. 2. If I'm kinder towards others then I tend to be kinder towards myself. I’ve found that the...

Here are a few I have come across the last week or so. Note: Each link is followed by a title and a few paragraphs. For the full article click on the link above title of the article. How to Find More Time for the Things that Mean the Most to You This Year
“Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One man gets only a week’s value out of a year while another man gets a full year’s value out of a week.” Charles Richards There are many important things in life. Your family and friends. A hobby perhaps. Working out and staying healthy. Reading, learning and growing as person. But finding the time for what is most important in life is not always easy. It sometimes feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day. But even if it may not feel like it, there are often ways to improve how you use your time. In this articl...

Use blogs to manage your healthcare brand
by Andrea J. Simon Physicians seem to be reluctant to manage their reputations online but get very upset when people go online and talk about them. If you aren't going to protect your brand reputation, you open yourself up to "anything goes." For example, I recently was interviewing a successful physician about her practice and how to expand her business when we got deep into a discussion about online reputation management. She was frustrated that people were talking about her and her hospital and she didn't know what to do. Then I interviewed another physician in a different practice who raised a similar worry about h...

Prognosis: Weeks to Months – On the End of an Era at San Diego Hospice
On February 14th, 1977, a group of volunteers offered support to 10 patients who were nearing the end of life, and in doing so formed the foundation of what would grow into the largest academic hospice in the US – caring for upwards of 1000 patients each day at its peak, and training hundreds of hundreds of clinicians in the specialty of palliative care.  Just a day shy of its 36th anniversary, it was announced that San Diego Hospice would be closing. As an alumnus of the fellowship program at San Diego, I am one of many who are grieving this news.  I write here, not so much to share my grief, but rather to ...

The Motvation and Academic Competence (MACM) Commitment Pathway to Learning Model: Crossing the Rubicon to Learning Action
There is only one unequivocal law of human behavior—the law of individual differences.  People are more different than they are alike. Probably no environment elicits individual differences sooner in life than formal education.  When asked by teachers or parents to help understand why a particular student is not achieving adequately, school psychologists have traditionally reached for an intelligence battery.  Although understanding a student’s general, broad and specific cognitive abilities contributes important information for determining general expectations and the need for special instructiona...
