Effectiveness of a personalized digital exercise and nutrition-based rehab program for patients with gastric cancer after surgery: Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: Digital therapeutic programs include exercise and nutritional interventions modified by age, body mass index, surgery type and postoperative days. Thus, expert intervention is pivotal for precise and safe calibration of this program.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov identifier: NCT04907591 (registration date: June 11, 2020; https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04907591).PMID:37485329 | PMC:PMC10357057 | DOI:10.1177/20552076231187602

Fight Aging! Newsletter, July 24th 2023
In this study, we tested the hypothesis that periodontal disease (PD) as a source of infection alters inflammatory activation and Aβ phagocytosis by the microglial cells. Experimental PD was induced using ligatures in C57BL/6 mice for 1, 10, 20, and 30 days to assess the progression of PD. Animals without ligatures were used as controls. Ligature placement caused progressive periodontal disease and bone resorption that was already significant on day 1 post-ligation and continued to increase until day 30. The severity of periodontal disease increased the frequency of activated microglia in the brains on day 30 by 36...

Application effect of gastrointestinal bundle nursing on the protection of gastrointestinal function in patients with gastric cancer
Medicine (Baltimore). 2023 Jul 21;102(29):e34308. doi: 10.1097/MD.0000000000034308.ABSTRACTEvidence-based nursing practice was used to formulate the enhanced recovery surgery bundle nursing strategy and apply it to patients with gastric cancer, to explore its safety, effectiveness and feasibility in perioperative gastrointestinal function protection in patients with gastric cancer. Selected the clinical medical records of 100 gastric cancer patients treated in our hospital from June 2019 to June 2021 as the research objects, and divided them into the control group and the observation group with 50 cases in each group accor...

Effects of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) on postoperative pain in patients undergoing gastric and esophageal ESD surgery: a study protocol for a prospective randomized controlled trial
This study is a prospective, randomized controlled trail, which is single-blinded and in single center. A total of 120 patients undergoing elective gastric and esophageal ESD surgery in Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, will be involved in this study. These individuals will be stratified according to the type of ESD surgery (i.e. gastric or esophageal procedure) and be randomly divided into two groups. L14, PC6, ST36 and ST37 will be stimulated at the TEAS treatment group, and the control group will receive simulation at four sham acupoints. The primary outcome is post-EDS VAS score at the time of en...

Treatment and outcomes of patients with metastatic spinal cord compression: a double-center study
CONCLUSIONS: Common symptoms of MESCC include spinal pain and neurological deficit below the level of the injury. Prompt surgical treatment followed by oncological treatment leads to significant neurological recovery, more prolonged survival, pain relief, and improved quality of life in patients with a short survival time. Oncological treatments, including radiotherapy (RT), should be recommended after surgical treatment.PMID:37458664 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202307_32968
