Role of MicroRNAs and Long Non-Coding RNAs in Regulating Angiogenesis in Human Breast Cancer- A Molecular Medicine Perspective
Curr Mol Med. 2021 Dec 16. doi: 10.2174/1566524022666211217114527. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMicroRNAs (miRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are proficient in regulating gene expression post-transcriptionally. Considering the recent trend in exploiting non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) as cancer therapeutics, the potential use of miRNAs and lncRNAs as biomarkers and novel therapeutic agents against angiogenesis is an important scientific aspect. An estimated 70% of the genome is actively transcribed, only 2% of which codes for known protein-coding genes. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a large and diverse class of RNAs ...

Research Progress of Traditional Chinese Medicine Monomers in Reversing Multidrug Resistance of Breast Cancer
Am J Chin Med. 2023 Feb 23:1-20. doi: 10.1142/S0192415X23500283. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBreast cancer is a malignant disease with an increasing incidence. Chemotherapy is still an important means for breast cancer treatment, but multidrug resistance (MDR) greatly limits its clinical application. Therefore, the high-efficiency MDR reversal agents are urgently needed. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) monomers have unique advantages in reversing chemotherapeutic MDR because of its low toxicity, high efficiency, and ability to impact multiple targets. This review firstly summarizes the major mechanisms of MDR in breas...

Nuclear medicine contribution to precision surgery in breast cancer
Rev Esp Med Nucl Imagen Mol (Engl Ed). 2023 Jul 6:S2253-8089(23)00063-0. doi: 10.1016/j.remnie.2023.07.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNuclear medicine has significantly contributed to precision surgery in breast cancer in the past decades. Radioguided surgery (RGS) has enabled sentinel node (SN) biopsy in assessing regional nodal involvement modifying the management of patients with early breast cancer. For the axilla the SN procedure has resulted in fewer complications and better quality of life when compared with axillary lymph node dissection. Originally, SN biopsy principally concerned cT1-2 tumors without evidence...

Tai chi 'may help people cope better with diseases of ageing'
ConclusionThis review searched the literature to summarise the effects of tai chi on four common chronic conditions. It identified a large number of trials collectively examining many different physical and psychological outcomes in a predominantly middle-aged to elderly population.  The notable significant effects seemed to be for improvements in walking for those with heart failure, knee extensor strength for those with heart failure and COPD, and pain and stiffness for those with osteoarthritis. There were also trends for effects on depression and quality of life for people with heart failure and COPD.The researchers c...

With breast cancer being unfortunately the second leading cause of death for women in the United States, and the statistics for the illness sadly being so high, it seems as though everyone can say they know someone who has suffered from breast cancer. But, not everyone can say they know a ridiculously handsome, intelligent and charming doctor that is so dedicated to the cause and that actually cares- if they could, mothers would be lining up to meet them so that they could introduce this catch to their daughters! And that’s where Doctor Mike comes in.      Dr. Mikhai...

Is Less Red Meat Better For You? Controversial New Guidelines Say No
(CNN) — Leading nutritional experts in the United States and the UK are fired up about new dietary recommendations claiming there’s no need to reduce your red and processed meat intake for good health. “This is a very irresponsible public health recommendation,” said Dr. Frank Hu, who chairs the nutrition department at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The new guidelines and five corresponding studies are part of a systematic analysis of existing research done by NutriRECS, a recently formed international group of nutritionists and health researchers. NutriRECS says its mission is to &#...

Cancers, Vol. 13, Pages 6056: Higher Level of Sports Activities Participation during Five-Year Survival Is Associated with Better Quality of Life among Chinese Breast Cancer Survivors
. Mo Winnie Yeo Evidence about the association between the level of sports activities participation post-diagnosis and quality of life (QoL) among Chinese women with early-stage breast cancer is limited. A validated modified Chinese Baecke questionnaire was used to prospectively measure sports activities among a breast cancer cohort at four time-points: baseline and 18, 36, and 60 months after diagnosis (sports activities during the previous 12 months before each interview); QoL was measured at the same time. In total, 1289, 1125, and 1116 patients were included in the analyses at 18-, 36- and 60-month follow-up, res...

Zoobiquity: Physicians, Veterinarians Collaborate For Better Treatments
http://media.boston.cbslocal.com/CBSBOS_0605201523222000000AA.mp4 BOSTON (CBS) – Do you have a pet? No doubt you share love and affection. But you could share similar health problems, too, everything from anxiety to cancer. Dr. Mallika Marshall takes a closer look at how veterinarians and physicians are now working together to help all of us. “Completely shocked.” That’s how Jeff Scholes of Andover felt when he was told his 10 year old Norwich Terrier, Chien, had a dangerous heart rhythm and without surgery, could die. “I told them anything you need to do to fix him,” says Jeff. “Just go for...
