Immune checkpoint blockade can synergize with radiation therapy, even in tumors resistant to checkpoint monotherapy
Immunotherapy has evolved as a new pillar of cancer treatment during the last decade. The main breakthrough was the development of immune checkpoint blocking (ICB) antibodies, which antagonize inhibitory receptors on T cells and their ligands and thus unleash the cellular immune system against the tumor. ICB showed tremendous effects in several types of cancer. However, only a proportion of the patients suffering from tumors, which are in principle sensitive, benefit from this treatment and other kinds of neoplasia are completely resistant. Great effort is currently being undertaken to distinguish responders from non‐res...

Evaluation of cytotoxic activity of platinum nanoparticles against normal and cancer cells and its anticancer potential through induction of apoptosis
Conclusion Overall, these findings have proved that biosynthesized ptNPs could be potent anti-ovarian cancer drugs. Further studies are required to elucidate the molecular mechanism of ptNPs induced anti-tumor effect in vivo.

Prognostic value and multivariate analysis of body composition measures on 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging in patients with esophageal adenocarcinoma
Conclusion: Esophageal adenocarcinoma remains an aggressive and deadly cancer with rising incidence. Isolating additional prognostic factors can refine quantification of treatment response and overall survival. Average attenuation and maximum SUV of LPA on FDG-PET/CT, the latter of which represents a novel measurement that accounts for body composition and muscle metabolism, has been found to be significantly positively correlated with overall survival. These findings are further substantiated by excellent intra- and inter-observer agreement between two diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine trained radiologists. Contin...

Anti-Helicobacter pylori effect of various extracts of ixeris chinensis on inflammatory markers in human gastric epithelial AGS cells
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-adhesive effect of I. chinensis on Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-induced gastric adenocarcinoma in an AGS cell model. Three types of I. chinensis extract were used: boiling water extract (BWE), ethanol extract (EE) and chloroform extract (CE) to check anti-H. pylori activity on the AGS cell line. Phytochemical and HPLC analysis were performed. In vitro antioxidant activity, including TEAC, DPPH and H2O2 scavenging abilities, was evaluated. In addition, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concen...

Concomitant endometrial and cervical adenocarcinoma: A case report and literature review
AbstractRationale:Concomitant malignancy of the endometrium and cervix is extremely rare.Patient concerns:A 56-year-old female presented to the Women's Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, complaining of irregular vaginal bleeding. The human papillomavirus test (type 18/45) was positive. We performed dilation and curettage; pathology revealed moderately differentiated endometrial carcinoma exhibiting squamous differentiation. The epithelium of the cervical uterus was atypical upon biopsy.Diagnoses:Histological and immunochemical tests confirmed a diagnosis of endometrial carcinoma concomitant with cervical ad...

Pictorial Review of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET-CT in Neuroendocrine Tumors with MRI Correlation
Conclusion: As 68Ga-DOTATATE PET-CT becomes increasingly used for evaluation of NETs, the Nuclear Medicine physician must be familiar with expected patterns of disease progression in all types of NETs, as well as develop an understanding of correlative MRI findings that can aid in more refined interpretation of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET-CT. Review of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET-CT with correlative MRIs in this exhibit will increase the viewer’s confidence in interpretation of 68Ga-DOTATATE PET-CT for NETs.

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging-directed biopsy of a metastatic bone tumor: Lung adenocarcinoma with ALK rearrangement
Publication date: 2018Source: Respiratory Medicine Case Reports, Volume 24Author(s): Makoto Hibino, Yuka Otsuka, Kazunari Maeda, Shigeto Horiuchi, Minoru Fukuda, Tetsuri KondoAbstractA previously healthy 44-year-old Japanese man with a 5-month history of lumbago presented to the emergency department with acute respiratory failure caused by pneumonia, and was immediately intubated. Computed tomography revealed a lung mass, pleural effusion, and multiple osteolytic lesions; however, the results of thoracentesis and bronchial brushing were not definitive. We performed a bone tumor biopsy guided by diffusion-weighted magnetic ...

A PET imaging approach for monitoring the therapeutically induced dynamic changes of active mutant EGFR kinase-expression in Preclinical and Clinical non-small cell lung carcinomas
Conclusions: 18F-MPG PET/CT imaging could accurately reflect the slight active mutant EGFR kinase-expression changes induced by EGFR-TKIsin a noninvasive way and real timeboth in preclinical and clinical. Cisplatin or Pemetrexed exposure resulted a dose-dependent decreasein active mutant EGFR NSCLCs, which this molecular level interfering on EGFR signal pathway can be also detected by 18F-MPGPET/CT imaging. Therefore, compared with 18F-FDG,18F-MPG PET/CT is a reliable tool in monitoring NSCLCs treatments, because of it is not easily affected by inflammation induced by chemotherapy and other factors. It has great potential i...
