Digestive system deep infiltrating endometriosis: What do we know
J Cell Mol Med. 2023 Aug 25. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.17921. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDigestive system infiltrating endometriosis (DSIE) is an uncommon form of endometriosis in the digestive system. DSIE often occurs in the intestines (especially the sigmoid rectum), liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Clinically, DSIE presents with the same symptoms as endometriosis, including cyclic pain, bleeding and infertility, in addition to specific biliary/intestinal obstruction and gastrointestinal bleeding. Compared to general endometriosis, DSIE has unique biological behaviour and pathophysiological mechanisms. Most DSIEs are deep in...

Long ‐term consequences of juvenile vulvar lichen sclerosus: A cohort study of adults with a histologically confirmed diagnosis in childhood or adolescence
ConclusionsSymptoms due to VLS are reported by most adults diagnosed as juveniles. QoL and sexuality are affected and correlate to recent symptoms. VLS as a juvenile does not preclude a vaginal delivery. Women diagnosed with VLS in childhood or adolescence are often lost to follow-up.

One ‐year follow up of contraceptive use and pregnancy rates after early medical abortion: Secondary outcomes from a randomized controlled trial of immediate post‐abortion placement of intrauterine devices
ConclusionsIUD placement after medical abortion led to high continuation and satisfaction rates with no difference between groups. We found no difference in IUD expulsions after immediate compared with later placement. Unprotected intercourse was significantly less common in the immediate group. In clinical practice, immediate placement of IUDs available free of charge at the abortion clinic is likely to increase attendance to the placement visit and continued use of IUDs after abortion.

Mechanisms of peripheral sensitization in endometriosis patients with peritoneal lesions and acyclical pain
ConclusionPatients under HT have no ovulation and no (menstrual) bleeding, which correlate with inflammation and cyclical pain. However, acyclical pain seems to be due to peripheral sensitization once it is present under treatment. Neurotransmitters, like SP and their receptors, are involved in mechanisms of neurogenic inflammation, which are relevant for pain initiation. These findings indicate that in both groups (EM with/without HT), neurogenic inflammation is present and responsible for acyclical pain.

Linzagolix in moderate to severe symptoms of uterine fibroids: a profile of its use
AbstractLinzagolix (Yselty®) is an orally administered gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor antagonist approved in the EU for the treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of uterine fibroids in adult women of reproductive age and extends the treatment options in this indication. Linzagolix is available as different treatment regimens: for short-term use to reduce uterine and fibroid volumes; and for longer-term use to manage fibroid-associated symptoms. In two placebo-controlled phase 3 trials, linzagolix as a single agent or in combination with hormonal add-back therapy significantly reduced the proportion of patients...

Multisystem Failure in Fatal Dengue: Associations between the Infectious Viral Serotype and Clinical and Histopathological Findings
This study aimed to establish possible associations between the clinical characteristics, histopathological changes, replication, and tissue location of viral serotypes in dengue fatal cases. Clinical and histopathological characterizations, antigen localization in tissue, and detection of the infecting serotype and replication using real-time polymerase chain reaction were all performed on the dengue fatal cases. The majority of the cases involved people under the age of 20. Bleeding (48.3%), abdominal pain (44.8%), myalgia (52.9%), and headache (48.3%) were the most common clinical manifestations in the cases. There was ...

Aortoesophageal Fistula Occurring Due to Aortic Aneurysm
We present the case of a 61-year-old male who presented with chest pain and hematemesis. A chest X-ray showed a widened mediastinum. The patient underwent computed tomography angiography (CTA), which showed the presence of a large aneurysm in the aorta, which caused compression of the trachea, esophagus, and left pulmonary artery. Additionally, there was evidence of an AEF. It was decided to perform an emergency surgical intervention on the patient. However, the patient had multiple episodes of hematemesis and expired.PMID:37602018 | PMC:PMC10438792 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.42148
