Buccal Contour Grafting for Periodontally Compromised Teeth with Horizontal Bone Loss: Prospective Cohort Assessment at 1 Year
Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent. 2023 Aug 31;0(0):0. doi: 10.11607/prd.6891. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe effects of buccal contour augmentation, for periodontally compromised teeth with horizontal bone loss, was assessed in this study. 30 subjects were divided into group A (open flap debridement [OFD] with buccal contour augmentation using deproteinized bovine bone mineral [DBBM]), jointly referred to as Contour augmentation for Periodontal Defects (CAPD); and group B (OFD alone). Bleeding on probing (BOP), clinical attachment level (CAL), probing depth (PD), gingival recession (GR), width (WKM) and thickness (TK...

Exploring Prevalance and Risk Factors Associated with Alveolar Osteitis Following Dental Extractions performed at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine
With the advancement of dentoalveolar surgery, teeth extraction remains 1 of the most routine procedures performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons, as well as other specialists and even dental students. Regardless of being an everyday procedure, extraction of teeth can result in various complications including postoperative bleeding, pain, infection, swelling, and alveolar osteitis (AO, dry socket). Among all postoperative complications, dry socket is 1 of the least desired outcomes due to its poorly understood pathophysiology which makes it difficult to prevent.

Wrong Tooth Extraction Prevalence
Wrong tooth extraction (WTE) is a phenomenon that occurs frequently in dental practices worldwide. Despite numerous advances in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery, this phenomenon tends to pose significant negative implications for providers nationwide along with negative consequences such as pain, bleeding, nerve injury, and psychological issues for the patient to name a few. Current literature focuses on wrong-site surgery procedures as a whole and while including WTE in the analysis, does not separately quantify the prevalence and factors associated with this phenomenon in the United States.

Autologous micro-fragmented adipose tissue in the treatment of atherosclerosis patients with knee osteoarthritis in geriatric population: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Atherosclerosis and osteoarthritis share common risk factors and comorbidity. And the use of micro-fragmented adipose tissue may benefit for improving symptoms of knee osteoarthritis accompanied by atherosclerosis although may lead to some mild adverse events. Randomized controlled trials with long-term follow-up are necessary for further evaluation because many limitations of this meta-analysis cannot be ignored.PMID:37651377 | DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0289610

Molecular pathology and clinical treatment of independent HPV primary serous carcinoma of the uterine cervix (USCC): A case report
1. Procedure for diagnosis HPV-independent adenocarcinomas of the uterine cervix. 2. Procedure for treating HPV-independent adenocarcinomas of the uterine cervix. AbstractOn October 23, 2020, a 69-year-old Chinese female patient was admitted to Yuncheng Hospital due to a history of postmenopausal bleeding and lower abdominal pain for 5 months. The HPV test and pathology results indicated the presence of independent HPV in primary serous carcinoma of the uterine cervix. The genetic testing identified variants of uncertain significance (PAX8 p.Tyr 410 Ter and TP53 p.Asn 247 Ile), microsatellite instability stable (MSI-S), tu...

Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy combined with non-doppler hemorrhoidal artery ligation for the treatment of grade III/IV hemorrhoids: a single centre retrospective study
Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy (MMH) is the most widely used surgical procedure because of its precise curative effect, but it has the disadvantages such as obvious postoperative pain and bleeding. To retros...

Patient discomfort and intensity of intraseptal anesthesia of computer-controlled articaine/epinephrine delivery for scaling and root planing
ConclusionsNo dose-dependent differences were found regarding patient discomfort and pain intensity of ISA delivery of 4%Ar  + Ep for SRP.Clinical RelevanceThe pain during ISA administration was mild and well tolerated regardless of the anesthetic dose. A lower intensity of pain during SRP can be expected in patients with greater CAL. Post-treatment pain can be anticipated after SRP in the regions with greater PPD and CAL.Clinical Trials registration number: NCT04392804 (May 9th, 2020).

Idiopathic omental hemorrhage: a case report and review of the literature
ConclusionPresence of positive focused assessment with sonography in trauma, abdominal pain, imaging evidence of fluid accumulation, and a reduction in hemoglobin levels collectively indicate the likelihood of arteriovenous malformation occurrence. The treatment options include surgical intervention and transcatheter arterial embolization. Surgical intervention is recommended for subjects with hemodynamic instability, persistent hypotension and those whose diagnosis is unconfirmed.

WAFER trial: a study protocol for a feasibility randomised controlled trial comparing wide-awake local anaesthesia no tourniquet (WALANT) to general and regional anaesthesia with tourniquet for flexor tendon repair
Introduction Flexor tendons are traditionally repaired under either general anaesthesia (GA) or regional anaesthesia (RA), allowing for the use of an arm tourniquet to minimise blood loss and establish a bloodless surgical field. However, the use of tourniquets exposes the patient to certain risks, including skin, muscle and nerve injuries. A recent advancement in anaesthesia delivery involves the use of a wide-awake approach where no sedation nor tourniquets are used (wide-awake local anaesthesia no tourniquet (WALANT)). WALANT uses local anaesthetic with epinephrine to provide pain relief and vasoconstriction, reducing o...

An Unusual Presentation of Chest Pain and Laryngeal Discomfort in a Pregnant Woman: A Case Report and Literature Review
Acta Med Okayama. 2023 Aug;77(4):429-431. doi: 10.18926/AMO/65755.ABSTRACTIntramural esophageal dissection (IED), characterized by bleeding into the submucosal space, leads to mucosal separation and dissection. The most prevalent symptoms are sudden chest or retrosternal pain, hematemesis, and dysphagia. Therefore, acute coronary syndrome and aortic dissection are among its most notable differential diagnoses. A 31-year-old pregnant woman presented with acute chest pain, laryngeal discomfort, and hematemesis. Emergency esophagogastroscopy revealed longitudinal mucosal dissection (upper esophagus to esophagogastric junction...

Acute Coronary Spasm Following Pelvic Fracture, Bleeding, and Shock in a Trauma Patient
We report a case of a patient with severe pelvic fracture who showed concurrent ST elevation on electrocardiogram. A 70-year-old man incurred an unstable pelvic fracture from a motorcycle accident. On admission, he was hemodynamically unstable, and massive transfusion and noradrenaline were administered immediately. Although ST elevation was present in leads II, III, aVF, V5, and V6, cardiac function was preserved; thus, trans-arterial embolization and external fixation for pelvic fracture were given priority. Four days after the injury, he suffered a cardiac arrest, and coronary angiography revealed that the cause of ST e...
