Assessing the association between probable posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms and quality of life among emergency service workers using path analysis
CONCLUSION: Active coping in response to stressful situations is important for maintaining good mental health among emergency service workers. Active coping and social support may strengthen resilience, and resilience may improve QOL. Screening for mental health and QOL should include simultaneous assessment of stress-coping, social support, and resilience. Although the findings of this cross-sectional study are important, it could not confirm a causal relationship between PTSD and QOL.PMID:37718827 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-220551

Functional status, social support, and anxiety among postnatal women of Eastern India
CONCLUSION: After six weeks of childbirth, most women only partially resumed their pre-pregnancy functional state. So, much more time, rest, and support from family members were needed to recover to a fully functional level. Nurses, midwives, and the family members of women should be aware of the critical role that social support plays in enhancing a woman's functional and psychological status during the postpartum period.PMID:37720888 | PMC:PMC10502358 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100238

Plasma metanephrines yield fewer false-positive results than urine metanephrines in obstructive sleep apnea patients
CONCLUSION: In OSA patients, plasma metanephrines are less likely to yield false-positive results for the diagnosis of PPGL than 24-hour urinary metanephrines. In patients with suspected OSA, obesity or a family history of hypertension, plasma metanephrines may be the preferred first-line test to avoid unnecessary anxiety or follow-up.PMID:37721483 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad553

A murine model of BSCL2-associated Celia's encephalopathy
Neurobiol Dis. 2023 Sep 15:106300. doi: 10.1016/j.nbd.2023.106300. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCelia's encephalopathy or progressive encephalopathy with/without lipodystrophy is a neurodegenerative disease with a fatal prognosis in childhood. It is generally caused by the c.985C > T variant in the BSCL2 gene, leading to the skipping of exon 7 and resulting in an aberrant seipin protein (Celia-seipin). To precisely define the temporal evolution and the mechanisms involved in neurodegeneration, lipodystrophy and fatty liver in Celia's encephalopathy, our group has generated the first global knock-in murine model for the...

Child characteristic correlates of food rejection in preschool children: A narrative review
Appetite. 2023 Sep 15:107044. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2023.107044. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDietary habits formed in early childhood are key for establishing a healthy diet later in life. Picky eating and food neophobia - the two main forms of food rejection in young children - form an important barricade to establishing such healthy habits. Understanding these types of food rejection is thus essential for promoting healthy eating behaviour in both children and adults. To this end, the present narrative review aims to provide an overview of food rejection research in preschool-aged children, focusing on recent advances i...

Joint effects of prenatal exposure to air pollution and pregnancy-related anxiety on birth weight: A prospective birth cohort study in Ma' anshan, China
CONCLUSION: Using the method of analyzing mixed exposures, we found that during pregnancy, the combined exposure of air pollutants and PrA, particularly during trimester 1, is associated with BWz decrease. This supports the view that prenatal exposure to chemical and non-chemical stressors has an impact on fetal growth.PMID:37717800 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2023.117161

Treating Sleep Disorders After Total Hip and Total Knee Arthroplasty
Orthop Clin North Am. 2023 Oct;54(4):397-405. doi: 10.1016/j.ocl.2023.05.008. Epub 2023 Jul 11.ABSTRACTDisorders of sleep are common after total hip and knee arthroplasty and may contribute to patient dissatisfaction and poorer outcomes in the early postoperative period. Multiple factors contribute to sleep disorders, including poorly controlled pain, opioid medication, perioperative stress, and anxiety. Both pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic methods have been used for perioperative sleep disorders, but there is no consensus on the optimal treatment.PMID:37718079 | DOI:10.1016/j.ocl.2023.05.008
