Effectiveness of physical activity interventions for improving depression, anxiety and distress: an overview of systematic reviews
CONCLUSION AND RELEVANCE: Physical activity is highly beneficial for improving symptoms of depression, anxiety and distress across a wide range of adult populations, including the general population, people with diagnosed mental health disorders and people with chronic disease. Physical activity should be a mainstay approach in the management of depression, anxiety and psychological distress.PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42021292710.PMID:36796860 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2022-106195

Internal consistency reliability of mental health questionnaires in college student athletes
CONCLUSIONS: The recommended mental health questionnaires were generally reliable for use with college student athletes. To truly determine the validity of the cut-off scores on these self-report questionnaires, future studies need to compare the questionnaires to a structured clinical interview to determine the discriminative abilities.PMID:36878667 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2021-105136

Anxiety and visceral sensitivity relate to gastrointestinal symptoms in runners but not pre- or during-event nutrition intake
CONCLUSIONS: In a sample of primarily recreational runners, greater anxiety and visceral sensitivity did not translate to lower intakes of energy, macronutrients, fluid, etc. around competition. Further work is needed in other settings, especially with high-level athletes, to understand the impact of competition anxiety on fueling choices.PMID:36924472 | DOI:10.23736/S0022-4707.23.14804-3

Evaluating workforce well-being: an investigation of healthcare professionals' mental health and burnout symptoms at the Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games
CONCLUSION: Although most HCPs reported good mental health, this study suggests that a subset of HCPs experienced symptoms of depression, anxiety, burnout or thoughts of self-harm during the Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games. While the generalisability of these findings outside of COVID-19 restrictions should be tested, appropriate guidance and mental health support of HCPs leading up to the Paralympic Games should be prioritised.PMID:37258063 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2022-106582

Beyond acute concussion assessment to office management: a systematic review informing the development of a Sport Concussion Office Assessment Tool (SCOAT6) for adults and children
CONCLUSION: Current SRC tools have limited utility beyond 72 hours. Incorporation of a multimodal clinical assessment in the subacute phase of SRC may include symptom evaluation, orthostatic hypotension screen, verbal neurocognitive tests, cervical spine evaluation, neurological screen, Modified Balance Error Scoring System, single/dual task tandem gait, modified VOMS and provocative exercise tests. Screens for sleep disturbance, anxiety and depression are recommended. Studies to evaluate the psychometric properties, clinical feasibility in different environments and time frames are needed.PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD...
